I couldn't get my husband to wear this, but these birthday boys and friends are so cute.

I love the mustaches on a stick-- to eat and for photos.

But it's the desserts that really kill me.

Over the past few months, we have been honored to be a part of the new Wish Upon a Wedding chapter in Las Vegas. 

For those of you that do not know about Wish Upon a Wedding, it is the world's first nonprofit wish granting organization providing weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation.

More than 16 Wish Upon a Wedding chapters have launched in the United States in less than a year.

There are so many ways one can help out in granting a wish. On October 1, 2010, Wish Upon a Wedding will begin auctioning off hundreds of products and services, in 46 cities throughout the country, to help couples create the perfect wedding or event, all at incredible prices! All proceeds raised will help grant wedding wishes for couples facing terminal illness and other serious life-altering circumstances. Your donation will provide us with the crucial funding needed to make these wishes come true.

So I was happy to see this when I got home-- gourmet s'mores! I want to go to that party!

She certainly thought of everything! Some thoughts from the hostess:

"Make your own desserts are a fun way to finish up dinner with guests. Setting up a s'mores bar is easy & everything can be prepped ahead of time. These ingredients are a step above your classic s'mores, though you can certainly do one if you'd like, but why not try an Elvis with a peanut butter cup & banana slice? Or maybe an Oreo made with oreo white chocolate sprinkled with sea salt on a chocolate graham is more your speed?

"For this one, we used a variety of spices including nutmeg & sea salt, assorted grahams, assorted chocolates including an amazing hazelnut bar, toppings like toasted coconut, and fruits. The possibilities are endless. One of our favorites? The St Lucia {named by my stepfather who claims it takes him back to a sailing trip to St Lucia} made with milk chocolate, marshmallow, a banana slice, sprinkled with cinnamon, and topped with toasted coconut."

We’ve all made mistakes, but it’s always so much more poignant to make a glaring mistake when you’re trying to impress your friends and family. A bridal shower is a very special occasion that should be fun and lighthearted. The fastest way to kill the mood, however, is to make a major blunder at your shower.

Never Throw Your Own Bridal Shower
You can have a party or a special reception for your engagement and invite your friends and family over, but do not have a shower and call it your own. A shower is an opportunity for friends to “shower” you with gifts. You don’t invite everyone over to your house to “shower” you. It’s akin to asking all of your friends to come over baring gifts. Adult birthday parties and letters to Santa are about the only way you can get away with asking for presents. Skip it at your shower – let a friend host the event for you, although you do get a vote on the design of the bridal shower invitations.

Don’t Exclude Your Mother’s Friends
If your mother has a million girlfriends, either invite them all or don’t invite any of them. Not getting an invitation to a ladies event such as a bridal shower is akin to a slap in the face if others in the same group were invited. This is true for your friends, of course, but your mother’s friends seem to care even more and many have probably watched you grow for years, perhaps decades. Let your mother invite them if she wants to – it’s just as much her party in a sense as yours anyhow.

Keep Your Games Classy
If you’re going to include games at the bridal shower, please keep them classy. Don’t open yourself up for criticism by allowing bridal shower games that would be more appropriate at a bachelorette party during an afternoon tea where your grandmother is sitting at your elbow. The shower can be casual and fun, but your mother’s friends aren’t interested in your astounding knowledge of the Kama Sutra positions in a “name this picture” game.

Most importantly, remember to relax and have a good time. These women are gathered to celebrate you and your future. Enjoy your time with all of your guests and thank them profusely for such a special event.

I got some great potted succulents at Home Depot. They were already in those beautiful turquoise pots.  Then I got some bright fuchsia flowers from our local flower guy. The runner was a beautiful embroidered piece I picked up in Guatemala a few years ago.  It really added nice color to our white table!

I didn't have tons of time, so I hand wrote the place cards and the menu in a matching sharpie color (of course I have all the colors on hand!).

I, unfortunately, didn't get pictures of every course, but here are the fish tacos and churros. Yum!

We had a great time-- and think our friends did too!

I saw these images and fell in love! How great would it would it be to have a party like this-- with a food truck!

This party was in San Diego, in a parking lot behind the Casa Atrelexia shop. Complete with food, popsicles, a DJ, summer movies, and super fun decor, this parking lot party offered unexpected treats.

Wouldn't this be great for a birthday party? Since our party is in November, I would make it more fall themed (easy) and a little more masculine (not as easy).  Any ideas, readers? And any ideas of where to host a party in a parking lot in Los Angeles?
