New One Page Bio and Speaking Information

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked for a bio and picture for an upcoming speaking engagement I’m doing (post on that soon). Instead of the usual email I opened up Apple’s Pages Application (part of the iWork package – Family pack of 5 seats only $99), and hunted for a nice template and the result is below. This took me about 1 hour and I feel that it’s already paid for itself. It’s gone out to about 4 people, all of which were very impressed. I know there’s work to be done on the images, etc. and graphic designers will certainly find faults…but for that hour expenditure I perceive great value.

We have been working with Doug Whipple at ChampionshipSportsTraining.com for a while now. Doug came to CWM a while ago and had about 8 different possible business models that he was thinking about. However the foundations for what Doug wanted to accomplish were the same. createWOWmedia needed to:

Build a membership based site using wordpress that give Doug a platform to offer archived video content for sale.
Build a site that would allow Doug to offer live video streams privately to members.
Build a site that would allow organic PR efforts through blogging and email marketing to happen with ease.

We build Doug’s site using WordPress and a group of other plugins and software solutions. Total software investment for this powerful site? About $200. CST just had some GREAT press coverage today in the Des Moines Register as well. This article really highlights that Doug has hit on something. Why shouldn’t grandma and uncle Joe see their boy play ball in the next city, state, or county…when for the price of a ticket they can watch it LIVE on their computer? Doug has only begun and this model is really about take off and we’re proud to be driving the technology for his solution.

Web Video As a Brand Accelerant

I talked at a conference put on by Love Scott on Tuesday morning along with Claire Celsi and Ben Stone. The conference took a unique approach to Social Media in that the conference organizer Andrew B Scott wanted 3 distinctly different uses for New Media tools. He wanted to hear the PR, Human Resource, and Findability/Branding angles and how those differ. I think the participants came away with some great value and it was a pleasure to participate.

What I learned most from 6 Sigma Training and Social Media Immersion

When I got done with my 6 Sigma Black Belt training the question looming in the back of my brain was, “Why did we only spend about 1 day of 20 talking about change management and the corporate culture aspects of deploying 6 sigma as a business tool?” My gut told me that culture and inertia are the hardest things to overcome. So here we were handed a new tool kit but but only 1/20th of our training was spent explaining how to beat the house odds.

So it goes in the land of social media or new media engagement tools. So many “experts” and coaches engage clients and give them the tools…while the client says, “Just give this stuff to Jennie in Marketing…she just graduated and is in tune with “The Facebook” and that “Tweeter”. Not good.

While there is no perfect formula and I don’t advocate the “Wait until all conditions are perfect before deploying” model…I do think it’s wise to work with your client to assess and plan for the inevitable difficulty of who will drive these new marketing avenues when the cool factor declines. Are you embracing these tools as a key part of strategy or simply doing it ‘because’? Are you looking for clear and measurable results? Or…are you just dipping your toes in the water to if your strategy will reveal itself? I don’t think any of these strategies are wrong. But, they all depend on the most change resistant element in the mix…the human.

First day in new Remax Studios on the Skywalk

The team at create WOW media has been working for about 8 months with MacsWorldLive.com. In a very short period of time, Mac and the team has created a “local-live talk radio station” that is 100% web based. There is more local content on this web based station than any other AM or FM talk station I’ve heard anywhere in the nation. Now, MacsWorldLive is located in beautiful new studios on the Sky Walk level in the Kaleidoscope building in downtown Des Moines. We’re inside the Remax Real Estate Concepts office…which is now fully deployed as the MacsWorldLive.com studios. We have a production studio and a very nice “Living Room” studio where you’ll see us doing Managing the Edge and BizTactical.

Shows run daily from 7am-8pm and there’s plenty of shows on the weekend now. Here’s the kicker, it’s free for the show hosts! All it takes is passion and a tiny bit of skill to run the computer/audio board, etc…and you’re off and running.

We’re very proud of this project and continue to build on the technology which until recently leveraged 100% free online content/audio/streaming solutions.
