Lucy is the “poster girl” of human evolution, a member of the same family from which modern humans arose. At least that’s how artists present Lucy in secular museums.

We’re gearing up for an exciting Memorial Day weekend at the Creation Museum as we celebrate our sixth anniversary.

Two spectacular new exhibits (one featuring dragons and the other exhibiting insects) and the best zip line course in the tri-state region (Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana) will all be opening soon! The zip line course will consist of 2.5 miles of zip lines and 12 bridges!

One of the new exhibits will fill the large portico of the Creation Museum—filled with dragons!

With all-original, spectacular artwork, intriguing portrayals of many dragon legends, hundreds of Chinese lanterns, two large colorful dragons from China and intriguing artifacts, this dragon display will be unique and awe-inspiring. The question will be posed to our guests, “Were dinosaurs dragons?”

We will be featuring the dragons as a part of our new billboard campaign. The billboards will appear primarily in the six major cities surrounding the museum: Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Lexington.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Jeff is from Sevierville, Tennessee (where we will be holding our national family conference in July, by the way). Ellie is from Tokyo, Japan. They have been doing a Bible study via Skype and then began corresponding. They decided to meet in person, so she came to the U.S. a week ago. The place she wanted most to visit in America was the Creation Museum—so they decided to meet here!

Here is photo of the couple taken at the Foto FX booth at the Creation Museum:

The Garden of Eden mentioned in Genesis must have been a beautiful place—of course, that was before sin changed everything (see Genesis 3). And, of course, the Flood of Noah’s day totally destroyed the pre-Flood world, including the Garden of Eden.

So, while we can’t visit the Garden of Eden today, you can visit the spectacular gardens at the Creation Museum and—despite our Fallen world—get a sense of the beauty of God’s original creation.

For many fans of the Creation Museum, the next four weeks are the best time of the year to visit. Not only do guests avoid the possibility of some long lines during the summer months, but also the gorgeous gardens are coming into full bloom. The entire botanical gardens have become quite lush.

Here are two photos of the driveway leading into the Creation Museum, showing many tulips and other flowers in bloom:

Here is a couple strolling through the colorful botanical gardens:

Another photo was taken at the back of the AiG offices and near the lake’s gazebo:

Also, we are installing a zip line across the lake in front of the museum. We’ll share more about the zip lines and their purpose in a future blog post.

Plan your trip at CreationMuseum.org.

Note: this post was adapted from a blog post by Ken Ham that appeared April 29. (By the way, thank you to Deb Minnard, Marty Minnard, and Mark Looy for these photos.)

Now that Dr. Faulkner is here, he’s already put together a couple of new workshops!

Sun Spotting Workshop

Would you like an opportunity to gaze at the sun? No, don’t look at it right now; staring at the sun without proper protection can cause damage to your eyes! However, if you look through a specially filtered telescope you can see some amazing things. The Creation Museum is excited to introduce a new astronomy workshop this spring: sun spotting! You’ll have an opportunity to look for sun spots and solar prominences and ask questions of Dr. Faulkner.

The cost for each workshop is $9.95 per person. Museum members and pass-holders receive a 10 percent discount. The presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes. This program takes place if weather permits and tickets are not able to be reserved before the day of the program. As an added bonus, participants in this workshop can receive a discount on our planetarium shows. When you buy a workshop ticket at the museum’s front desk, you may also purchase a scheduled planetarium show ticket for just $4.00—a savings of $3.95!

Astronomy Live

Have you seen one of our planetarium shows before? Have you ever wondered what else could be done with the amazing technology of the Stargazer’s Planetarium? Wonder no more and book your tickets for one of our Astronomy Live presentations. These presentations feature an in-depth look at what the night sky will look like that evening. You’ll also get the opportunity to fly through space, experience some time traveling, and have questions answered by Dr. Faulkner. Come explore God’s heavenly creation in an out-of-this-world show!

The cost for each show is $9.95 per person. Museum members and pass-holders receive a 10 percent discount. The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes.
Dr. Georgia Purdom
“The Anatomy and Physiology of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ”
March 12 (12:00), 19 (12:00), 26 (12:00)

While many of us grasp the spiritual reality of what Jesus did for us on the cross, few have grappled with the physical reality of the agonizing death Jesus suffered. Jesus was fully God and fully man, thus He had to endure the very real mental, emotional and physical effects of crucifixion. You are invited to experience Jesus’ journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to Calvary through a detailed analysis of His medical and emotional condition in addition to powerful clips from the movie The Passion of the Christ. You will be sure to gain a greater appreciation of Jesus’ sacrifice this Easter season. (This presentation is graphic in nature and not recommended for children under 12.)

Tim Chaffey
“He is Risen”
March 15 (12:00), 23 (3:00), 29 (12:00), 30 (3:00)

The Resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in human history. The Bible tells us that if Jesus did not rise then Christianity is futile and we are still in our sins. Jesus said that His death, burial, and Resurrection would be the one sign He would give to an unbelieving world. Consequently, critics and skeptics have launched countless attacks on this event. In this passionate presentation of the gospel, Tim Chaffey explains the importance of the Resurrection, examines the “many infallible proofs” that Jesus rose, and critiques the various theories proposed by skeptics to explain away the truth of the first glorious Easter morning.

Dr. David Menton
“The Gospel in the Messiah”
Dr. Menton will talk about the words and music of this classic and play plenty of clips.
March 14 (12:00), 16 (3:00), 18 (12:00), 21 (12:00), 28 (12:00)

We generally associate the music of Handel’s Messiah with Christmas, but most of this work deals with the events of Good Friday and Easter. Here we truly learn of the redemptive work of Christ set to some of the most beautiful music ever written. In this presentation we will introduce George Frederick Handel and show how his music closely embraces and supports selected texts from the King James Bible.

The Creation Museum is excited to present the “Scope It Out!” series on the function and use of microscopes.

Scope It Out! is taught by Dr. David Menton, a popular speaker at the Creation Museum. With his years of experience teaching medical students and his great sense of humor, Dr. Menton brings expertise and fun to this fascinating subject.

You might be asking yourself, “Why would I want to learn to use a microscope?” The following excerpt from the class manual explains it well:

Over the entrance to the library at Woods Hole Marine Biology laboratory is a sign, hand written by the great scientist Louis Agassiz, which reads “Study nature, not books.” A curious sign indeed for a library since there is much about nature that can be learned from books. But still, there is no substitute for the direct study of nature itself. Such direct study can be greatly enhanced with the right equipment and instruments . . . Perhaps no instrument has contributed more to our understanding of biology than the microscope.

There are currently two classes being offered: “Microscope 101: An Introduction to Microscopy,” and “Microscope 201: Mammalian Tissues.”*

Microscope 101: An Introduction to Microscopy: By the end of this class you will know the parts of the microscope and their function. You will have an understanding of how to determine the resolution of a microscope and be able to properly illuminate your subject. We’ll show you how to do a wet mount, an important technique that will enable you to expand your study of the microscopic world. Most importantly, you will know how to focus and use your microscope for the best possible view of your miniscule targets. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a card showing you are certified to take advanced classes.

Microscope 201: Mammalian Tissues*: In this class you will use your microscope skills as you study the four mammalian tissue types. This will be followed by a lesson in the anatomy and function of the skin and kidney at a microscopic level. During the final portion of the session, you will be given the opportunity to apply your knowledge as you search microscope slides to find and identify the tissues you’ve studied.
