Everything the Blade Vision Network already slashes and burns shall fall victim to my arsenal of wordishness (except much more abbreviated, no not inebriated)…but as I said this is personal…you want the depth of shallowness of my mind this is it! (Somehow that does not seem quite right…but I promised not to edit didn’t I?)

This “rainbow” fountain speaks the breadth of time of these grounds but also the vitality of life. Radiant colours and the dancing waters blend to enchant…

I am a sucker for such gardens and fountains as they coalesce conspiring to spin magic upon the senses…waves of people dissipated by sprinkles of water…

It is a year now since we plundered the beauty and spectacle that is London. A city heavy on the urban also has plenty of oases of the green and flowery variety which is much needed in the city that seems to have a constant press of flesh and traffic. You breathe in enormous history, revel in the present and anticipate the future…

At Kensington Gardens there are the colours and scents of flowers, the layers of visual texture with solid manmade matrixes blended with natural yet human placed flower and fauna accompanied by feathery friends…

The sounds of the fountain waters added a splendid accompaniment to the environs sweeping away our jetlag and emerging us into the city thru a natural portal…the soft city…

To the eyes from British Columbia, the Pacific of Canada such a garden was a welcome experience…

Perhaps you have experienced Kensington Gardens in person…

Dragonfly Photo: Dragonfly Visitor

A flicker of shadow across the novel page, the vaguest flutter of motion and you dragonfly visitor settle delicately upon the designated dragonfly perch.

The heat of the day and motion of life calls for a pit stop and although you dragonfly do not present us with the classic dragonfly obelisk posture you still provide drama and spectacle within the garden.

You cling like a predator preparing for the hunt, mosquitoes, flies and ants beware the dragon, oh my!

Dragonfly you are the visitor, our visitor prime among those who buzz and hover, perch and fly.

We will miss you dragonfly visitor in seasons, you perch upon the launch pad much as you did when first going aloft from lake larva to sky beauty. We wait for you to visit next year as you descend shadow upon novel to your perch in our garden…dragonfly visitor…

Sweet dragonfly in some cultures you are regarded as rather sinister but I feel not trepidation when you hover near or far. I adore it when you are reflected upon my eyes.

I am touched by the elegance with which you traverse life. In air you dance upon the sky, arrest upon ground and you are a statuesque beauty.

We could not invent you as you bend the imagination and stretch the wonder.

At home in the garden, park and wild…you are so seemingly frail to our touch yet durable in travails.

Dragonfly may I ask, are you a dream or real? You see your glory is to me like a thunder peal but when you come close I breathe sweet air from the game of your wings.

Thank you sweet dragonfly for your life makes me feel more alive…

Should Whales be kept in Captivity?

As my wife and I regularly visit zoos and aquariums on our vacations we often get asked why people like us (loaded term) that love animals and nature would visit such facilities…it has even been said that we go on animals in captivity tours (alright it is my coining of the phrase)….

We answer that our lives have been changed by our encounters with animals in these kinds of places. We donate to endangered animal organizations and various other kinds of animal aid based groups with our time, skills and money…

We adore encountering animals in the wild…however we believe that there is a place for zoos and aquariums if they are operated properly…and we do not believe that animals are the same as humans. If animals are to have rights then they must also have responsibilities…we believe in neither of these in regards to animals…

This does not mean we believe in the wanton destruction of our environment or the cavalier mistreatment of animals…far from it…we are stewards of creation, this means guarded cultivation…animals and nature should be protected but animals and nature are also open to cultivation…this involves human engagement…

Puppy Love Chick Magnet Photo

In an earlier article we presented three extraordinarily cute puppies that a ~~fiend~~ friend of mine was choosing from…he made his selection and so we follow up here with a photo of ~~Chick Magnet~~ Mya.

When I was considerably younger…and single I made perpetual use of a brilliant white husky (brilliant as in luminosity of the white not in intelligence…we are talking huskies here).

I found women were irresistibly drawn to the dog…he was a great lure…and I suspect this is part of the plan with Mya…a man who loves dogs…and is trustworthy with a puppy…how cute…of course she could be a functional working animal to accompany him on his hunting trips…then again Mya would then be a hunting dog in more way than one…

Why are so many women-knockouts push-overs for puppies and the men with them?

A friend of mine is facing multiple dilemmas…no they are not rooted in simply being my friend (since I like the proverbial cavalry have been called in to save the day…as usual…such is my life…)

A family member of his has provided puppy opportunities…there are many to choose from but these three remain in contention…

My friend has requested help in deciding which puppy to pick as his own…and what said puppy should be named…

Wild Bunny Photo Watership Down

We live in a nice townhouse complex, when we first moved in fifteen or so years ago the area behind us had a HUGE mound of dirt (we actually named it a mountain, which is quite the joke when you consider we live in British Columbia). The area was almost wild in vegetation. Since then that area has been developed and an adjacent “wild” area has become a beautiful park…we do live in a city….

Thus we have had more wild animals making their way into our lives directly around our home…for example we have had a lot of rabbits that lost their homes now interfacing with us.

As there are never enough rabbits…we have occasionally fed a few of our furry friends…My wife is particularly fond of them and likes to be the local provider of the odd piece of apple…Some of the rabbits have become equally fond of her…this fur ball in the photo became very contented and had a prolonged stay around our unit for several months…that was last year…

This year we have had appearances of rabbits including “our” rabbit…however we have also enjoyed encounters with two coyotes…Once when I stepped out my front door I almost walked into a frantic coyote trying to find his way back to shelter from the coming daylight…and then a month later another one was trying to find his way out around our fence…they were both gorgeous animals and it was wonderful to see them at full wild speed…

Now it seems that we have none of our furry friends to share apples with…certainly there are still a lot of them in the park…where they are living with their friendly coyote pals…

When my wife and her sister were growing up their parents kept a rabbit shed out back…they would purchase rabbits at auctions…fatten them up…this is when the girls would play with them, name them and feed them…then one day they would eventually make it to the dinner table…not as guests but as dinner…their mom would say “today we are having Fuzzy Bunny for dinner”…

As you may know I own an Amazon Kindle and have a book review blog named The Purple Bookmark. When I was a child I read Watership Down, a masterful bunny centric story that also engages the events of their homes being developed…now I can’t really remember much of Watership Down but will be blogging my way through it soon at The Purple Bookmark so if you want to feed the rabbits it may be the place for you….

Introducing: Science Fantasy: Star and Dragon

What is your fantasy?

Speculative fiction as expressed through science fiction and fantasy is a passion of mine. The intellectual and creative process combining to contrive the probable and the possible…as well as the impossible and outright miraculous…

Much of the creative writing that appears in our blogs is seeds of experimentation in speculative fiction. Exercises that have aided me in developing a novel of science fantasy…a yet uncompleted work but one that is well along…perhaps you can help me develop my craft…or maybe you want to watch a train wreck…

Star and Dragon is a logical outworking of that passion. It will boldly go into all aspects of science fiction, fantasy, myth and legend with blends of unique ideas, characters and places…and favourites from the worlds of science fiction and fantasy…

Yet we will not stop there…as speculative fiction is a wonderful launch pad for conversations it will also be philosophical and more…what is the meaning of why we create such characters, creatures, empires, technology and planets?

The Composer conducts the creation touching our lives in such a way that we may realize our potentials…but allowing us to fail if that is our desired outcome…

He does not force us to join His orchestra but we cannot escape His “music”…

When God conducts His “music” do you want to be part of His “orchestra” or do you choose to fail? Nobody can create a better “music video” than God…

The Sky of God Never Say I am Bored

The Sky of God is infinite and as we are finite creation we cannot imagine the detail and panorama of His understanding.

As time flows the human perspective is enormously limited, our memories merge with our recorded histories, and as generations come and go some things we remember other things we forget…other knowledge and wisdom is never passed along to our collective community…forever lost…

Yesterday, today and tomorrow…eternity are all as present and known to God. He is not limited by our resources, God’s creation was perfect yet humans warped and broke it. Still, although God’s creation is now “tough” He seems to have made us “tough enough”.

Time itself is created by God…it had a beginning. Such a concept boggles the mind. As we reach for the sky, the stars, God knows them all…perfectly…just as He knows each of us…

There is never a moment that should be boring to humans, elucidating upon the creation is beyond our scope…meditating upon God is unfathomably deep…observe the “movement” of time…feel your place in it…and know…that God is watching and listening…time to talk…

This is part of my life…knowing that I am part of the Sky of God…never do I say “I am bored”…

The Missing Link Between Creation and Evolution?

Is the missing link between creation and evolution a no man's land and mine field destroying all that dare traverse the space between spirituality and science?

Over the years what mine sweepers there have been were targeted by whichever camp they have ascended from. If they step forth in faith from the Church seeking diligently to express the biblical text accurately but cross the threshold of evolution and an initial creation time longer than six days they are considered heretical by many pew sitters.

Likewise scientists that prize the truths of science more dearly than espousing a philosophical Darwinism requiring more faith than facts are quickly labeled as traitors of evolutionary dogma and are cursed to the flames of Bunsen burner and beaker purgatory.

There is a popular and intellectual warzone to this conversation as it seems so much hinges upon the outcome. Atheists often decry any and all spiritual solutions even when science may point towards a Creator…because if there is a Creator we have the ultimate game changer. Those of the spiritual community often are so frightened to recognize any scientific solutions that conflict with long held Church micro-culture ideas that they often mistake those ideas with biblical facts.

Thus it is with some trepidation I step into the target zone, yet there is freedom in the mystery of creation…for mystery there is. Science cannot nail down all of the pertinent facts unequivocally and empirically. Also it should not lay enthralled with the latest’s hypothesis or theory nor be bound by those on the deathbed of philosophical first causes or supposed biological linkages.

The Church should not lay prone in churchianity, internal Church politics and false unbiblical historical suppositions and misconceptions but instead should embrace the linguistics with biblical history in regards to the accounts of creation within the scriptural text.

The best science of the day cannot prove a universe that lacks a Creator. Science also cannot move into the space of “without a shadow of doubt” with the initiation of universal biology. We lack sufficient data and cannot relive the beginning of creation in our present state. I strongly suspect we shall never be able to garner the information needed to make an absolute statement that there is no Creator…and I am guessing that most people feel the same about this…we shall need to await the end.

However sophisticated the science is in regards to these topics the theology is perhaps even more complex. Science is dealing with the finite realm of creation whereas the Church speaks forth truth from the scripture about the Creator Who is infinite. The Church response would be that although it speaks of the infinite it does not do such blindly as the Creator has chosen to interact with the finite with His own words and interventions in creation…specifically with humans and we have those records that are well preserved.

I am of the Church spiritual community, I devoutly hold to the biblical text because I believe it is true. I recognize that both the scientific community and the Church have a felt need to seem like they have all the answers. Yet the truth is they do not, both takes steps of faith…and at times both go well beyond their ability in attempts to prove their ideas.

The amount of time that the initial creation took is unimportant and the text lends itself to more than the one consideration than a six literal twenty four hour days of creation…indeed there are many ways of devoutly unfolding the biblical text in understanding creation. One could even say it seems there is an intentional mystery built into the text that disables the possibility of certainty of time on this topic…it seems that a “need to know basis” is presupposed…and we need not know…Yet we do know the Creator created, Adam and Eve charged into the Fall of the universe fruit in hands. The rest of the story of scripture then unfolded with God Himself becoming incarnate in the person of Jesus. If the Creator created everything the rest of the miracles are a piece of cake.

I find no conflict between genuine science and genuine biblical exposition. How God created the cosmos and biology of the universe is not presented with sufficient detail in either science or scripture for us to declare we know all of the facts. Mystery enriches the biblical text on the topic of creation…mystery that is an unbridgeable gap for science…

Could it be that this mystery is the missing link between creation and evolution?

Kimba Triumphant! Sometimes Old Words Never Die…Like Old Friendships….

Sometimes old words never die…like old friendships….

This is a repost from December 10, 2008 with adaptations from the premier of the article on the same date in 2007…here it is presented with a new image…this is one of my favorite writings of my times past…

Walking past the cages one could observe the occupants…most where barking and jostling for attention….some stood or sat at the closed gates of the cages eagerly wagging their tails….I came upon a cage with a cute little white dog barking at the gate and jumping with its paws against the gate, at the very back of the cage was a midsized yellow and white dog, this dog was not making any noise, she was perhaps 5-6 months old and a yellow Lab (Labrador retriever) white Siberian husky crossbreed. She was holding her ears in uncoordinated positions (rather like old fashioned TV rabbit ears splayed in various positions to acquire the TV signal)….she had a little shiver now and then as if cold and scared….she had a shy demeanor….and I knew she was the one the moment I set my eyes upon her.

We had thought about the kind of dog we would like to be part of our family for quite awhile and upon seeing her, and then observing her I knew she was the one (quiet and non-barking being essential ingredients for our search)…I then called my wife over to have a look…there were many good candidates but we asked to take this yellowish shy dog outside for a short walk to have a better look and get better acquainted…

She was exceedingly cute partially because she had not quite grown into her ears and paws; she was thin, in need of some good food and a nice home with people who would love her.

So we adopted her into our family, she came home with us…and our lives would never be the same again….

A name was required, after much discussion one of the heroes from my childhood took the primacy in our naming convention…Kimba…as in the 1960’s Japanese anime TV program Kimba the White Lion (another animal that had not quite filled into its paws and ears, a lion coming of age).

Kimba settled into our home life very comfortably, she became very close to my sisters amazing dog Sheba a black Lab who went about teaching Kimba the ways of doghood…

The first year and a bit Kimba would do things like try to chew through the wall of the garage, chew our rubber garbage can lid all the way around except where it clamped onto the can itself, sit on the roof of my wife’s car and chew off all the plastic on her roof rack, jump through the open window of my SUV and chew up my stick shift….

Kimba was not very trustworthy when off leash…perhaps that is how she had come to be “vacationing” at the dog pound where we found her…the first time we went camping with her in the morning she insisted she had to leave the tent at sunrise and have a look around etc. we put her on her 15 foot chain connected to a tree and after awhile noticed she had taken the chain with her and walked away into the woods (remember huskies are very efficient at pulling), after a short bit of tracking I managed to find her (she was pulling a 15 foot chain after all)….she often had a tendency to have misplaced her mind and would venture after squirrels and other animals, but her favorite was rabbits she would even go into thick brambles to get them, she would get pinned down under all the massive vines of thorns, the rabbits could have bounced on her head and she would not have been able to do a thing about it!

Yet her enthusiasm never waned…this being said she never did catch any of these animals, she was fast but not a very stealthy or strategic predator…..although once when stepping into the back yard my wife and I saw Kimba had something sticking out of her mouth, I had her open her mouth and out jumped a frog, it was the frogs leg I had seen! He happily hopped away apparently no worse for ware….Kimba although a bit crazy/hyper some of the time was also extraordinarily gentle…

One of the things most characteristic of Kimba was her shocking speed, when playing with other dogs even greyhounds and whippets she would run ahead like the wind…one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen is yellow Kimba bounding at full speed through tall yellow autumn grass, at moments like that she was a force of nature….Kimba loved to run full out across the wide expanses of beaches at low tide energized by making seagulls take to the air….

Probably the most noticed feature besides her speed, and perennially commented upon cuteness (she always had a smile on her face, and rarely did she hold her ears in the more conventional sense of most dogs) was her incredible patient, charming, caring demeanor…She loved children and even more so the disabled with whom she frequently volunteered and excelled with….and they all loved her….as was the case for all who took the time to get to know her…

Kimba was an extraordinary animal who touched our lives in ways we never would have imagined…it is two years ago today that we had to euthanize her as she became gravely ill…she had been an important part of our lives for over 12 years, we still love her and miss her…I tell you this with tears in my eyes…

…If you miss a loved one…particularly at this time of year when many families and friends come together, perhaps it is a parent, sibling, spouse, child, other family member, friend, or even a pet, there is love, comfort, and refreshing available with God…

For many years Kimba had a plaque near where she slept at night…

God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing.

You have bedded me down in lush meadows,

you find me quiet pools to drink from.

True to your word,

you let me catch my breath

and send me in the right direction.

Even when the way goes through

Death Valley,

I'm not afraid

when you walk at my side.

Braveheart: Sheep and Cows at War: Anthropromorism Video

Anthropomorphism has never been one of my favourite creative expressions…I like the movie Braveheart which the video clearly references…I like sheep and cows…talking sheep and cows well perhaps I am reconsidering…

I have been thinking about writing a short original creative series here at Creation on the Blade that would apply some anthropomorphism…no perhaps not sheep or cows…

911 Terrorist Attacks Conspiracy Unedited Uncensored Video: WWF 911 and Tsunami Video: Bizarre and Disgusting

911…September 11 2001 the above WWF video is so terribly offensive that I am almost at a loss for words…

Where do I begin with this….911 was a human propagated evil act…Islamic terrorists purposely murdered a mass of innocent people…including children…the tsunami was a natural event….the loss of life is horrific but the two events cannot be compared. They are completely different…and both deservedly are engrained upon our memory. To this very day I personally support relief efforts in those areas hit by the tsunami….and I support the efforts in Afghanistan to turn that country of loss to a country that is healthy…

I will not downplay either event…911 and the tsunami are dismal, grievous events. BUT to put one up against the other…an evil human act of Islamic terrorists against a naturally occurring catastrophe…to even compare them…to speak of respect for the planet as though it could in some way relate to respecting Islamic terrorist is plain sick…And to imply that some way the tsunami could be related to conservation is bizarre and disgusting. Sure you could say the inference is not direct etc…BUT we get the wink-wink….THEY MUST have known that this video could and would be taken on so many levels that it would rankle people…that it would hurt them…and that is their point…they think their cause is so regal and important that they are revolted that as they see it the planet does not get the attention it deserves…this video is neither an ad nor a public service announcement…it is repugnant and offensive…it is not controversial it is reckless endangerment of compassion…

Well the WWF will no longer get the attention of my donations! However I will continue to support the war against Islamic terrorists and those who have suffered from the tsunami….I despise what the WWF have done with this video…

Zoom Zip Lines Video Whistler BC: An Olympic Sport?

There are many interesting ways to view and encounter nature…a leisurely walk in a forest all the way to zip lines. Of course these are two completely different kinds of experiences. Walks allow for deeper observation of the environment, the ability to stop and inspect something more closely. While traveling by zip line is more exhilarating, this perhaps touches more upon a deeper introspection of self than appreciation of the creation.

Walking and hiking provide exercise while with zip lines you are along for the ride. Generally walks in the forest do not provide much fear (unless you come across a predator). While traveling by zip line can provide a safe avenue to face fears.

Our modern society seems to rush through life while we say we desire more time for leisure and things that are “important”. Zip line adventures help us “zip through life” while walking and hiking can seem rather dull to some.

Would you rather walk or zip line? Would you like to try a zip line in an urban environment among towering buildings? Should there be “zip races” be an Olympic sport?

In the topical sphere of the environment and creation many have been the impending doom announcers. Global warming, climate change etc… While we certainly do have problems on this planet we also have the majestic splendor of God’s creation.

So when you feel “yellow fear” crumpling your life remember the hope of yellow flowers along a gentle stream with a warm sun in a quiet valley…

When it comes to people and creation there are innumerable permutations. Some spend a life time with scientific observations on the mating habits of sea life or great blue herons. Others are befuddled with the courting and mating practices of people.

There are times when one needs to use The Purple Bookmark of life. We mark those “magic” moments that pass from eye contact to…well everything that comes afterwards. The nature vs. nurture conversation is often then one that opens its eyes and stares you boldly in the face. Why is that person attractive or not attractive to me?

Yellowstone Lake: Ice Water: Water Shortage: Is water sexy?

Yellowstone Lake is beautiful as both water and ice. The sweltering summer heat reminds us of our fragility. Water shortages span the globe from Texas to India. There is plenty of fresh water but we spoil much of it wasting a valuable resource and much of it is costly to extract from other sources.

Whether it is a blip of the weather or an overarching climate problem we need water. Many say it is a population problem others an irrigation problem. Much has been made of the concept that the next Great War will be over water. For some reason water is not “sexy” with the masses.

Anything to do with water supply is costly yet it is essential, ignoring the problems is more costly. Thousands of years ago the Romans saw water as “sexy” with their aqueducts and baths. Yet over time their civilization collapsed. As their society became more affluent they lost focus upon the essentials...what made them affluent.

Are we so concerned with entertaining ourselves that we ignore genuine issues such as water supply at our peril? If governments are not held responsible for the water supply it seems there is not much else they should take responsibility for, however if leaders get to far ahead they are often endangered for being seen as the enemy.

Should we put our leaders on ice for not leading or is our fault for drowning ourselves in non-essentials? How valuable is water? Is water sexy?

Yellowstone National Park: Emerald Pool Photo: Truth and Beauty

Yellowstone National Park has amazing natural beauty and Emerald Pool is one of our favorites.

Beauty can be deceptive as Emerald Pool looks tropical and inviting…you can almost imagine angel fish swimming in its swirls of water. However the water is deathly in scalding heat.

This can also be true of people…they may be of captivating physical beauty…they may even provide words that can seem full of promise of positive change and compassion…however if truth and action do not match with the words beware the heat!

Those that may seem to swim with the angels may be predators. Such can be true of those who talk the talk of caring for creation our environment and those who propose ideas and ideals into our lives but lack the beauty of truth and substance.

How do you tell the difference between true beauty and that which is only “skin deep”?
