Altered Cigar Box

I signed up for a swap, where we were to alter a cigar box. This being my first altered cigar box, I found it somewhat of a challenge, a challenge that I was willing to accept.

Inspiration for my theme was suggested by the person that was assigned as my swap partner. . .Shabby Chic. The main technique was inspired by Tim Holtz's "Enameled Metals" for the book, A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. II.

Some Glossy Accents Crackle, some Peeled Paint Distress Stain.

Inside some bling and a daisy colored with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.

Inside bottom interesting wallpaper samples that I have had in my collection for many years, this being the perfect opportunity to part with one sheet.

And for a little surprise, using the left over images, note cards for my swap partner.

Fun with my Antique Store Find

I have been wanting to create my own set of ink blending tools, an idea that I saw on pinterest via Lollyrot Scrapbooking's Blog using chess pieces. Shown here:

After searching rummage sales and auction sales, I was unable to find a chess set that I liked and would go with the theme of my craft room.

Last week when I made a visit to the Antique store I found the following items:

Old Wooden Thread Spools

A very interesting Hinged Wooden Box

After seeing these items my creative mind start thinking and this is what I came up with:

The box turned out to be a vintage sign making kit, included in the box were two old ink pads along with four brushes. This box being a perfect addition to my craft room. For the blending tools I glued the spools to wood pieces. But to add to the charm and whimsy, I took white thread and using each color of Distress Ink I colored the thread and wrapped it around the spool. I really am please how these blending tools turned out and they go very well with my Creating Scrapping Guy Craft Room theme.

Two other items that I found are vintage printing plates, which happen to be of the two lakes that are close to my family home. Mina Lake and Richmond Lake.

I of course needed to ink them up and stamp their images. These vintage pieces will make some great backgrounds.

Grungy Monday 20 -- Distress Stickles

This week I am a Guest Designer for Grungy Monday 20, host by Linda on her blog Studio L3. This weeks Product to be used is Distress Stickles. Let me tell you there are so many techniques that you can do with this little bottle of amazement.

Note: Please do not feel you need to run out and buy all kinds of supplies for this technique. Use the colors of Distress Stickles that you have on hand.

And now on to my project for this challenge:

And here are the steps to create this project:

Step 1) Cover your tag completely with a glue stick. Cover glue with sheet music or dictionary page. Heat tag with heat gun. Let cool. Pull off page. Portions of the page will remain. A tattered torn page is the look you want.

Step 2) Ink tag with your choice of Distress Ink. I used Victorian Velvet, Rusty Hinge, & Vintage Photo.

Step 3) Draw a “W” on the tag with Distress Stickles. I used Tea Dye.

Step 4) With your finger spread out the “W” of Distress Stickles. This will remove some of the Distress ink as the glue will act as a resist. Set tag aside and let dry. If you are impatient you may use a heat gun to speed up the drying, or on these hot days you may use a personal fan to speed up the drying of the Distress Stickles.

Step 5) Ink Grunge and spread Distress Stickles. I used Rusty Hinge Distress Ink and Tea Dye Distress Stickles. Let dry.

Step 6) Once grunge is dry blend on a darker shade of Distress Ink (yes you can ink over the Distress Stickles). Spritz with water as Distress Ink reacts with water. I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

Greeting Blog Followers!

I am back, i believe that i was in a creative funk! Slowly but surely i have come out of it. My craft room is coming along nicely, picture to be coming very soon.

In a business trip this past week i was able to stop at Michael's in Sioux Falls, SD. I was happy to see that they had Tim Holtz's stamps not being able to decide on just one I bought all three. Next to these set was Tim's stamping blocks, so of course i had to get those as well. . .

During my drive to Fairmont,MN and then back to Aberdeen, SD, i was able to mentally create projects using these stamps. Here is the first idea that came to fruition. . .

It is so nice to be able to get my fingers inked up again. . .

Greetings blog followers, sorry to have been away for so long. . . I am getting back in to the crafting spirit, my new craft room is coming along. Pics of the room coming soon. This post I wanted to share with you a page I did for a Wizard of Oz Swap. The character I picked was the Scarecrow. Using Tim Holtz inks and texture fade and Artistic Outposts Stamps. I created the following page. Also included with the page is a tag with historical facts regarding Baum his time in Aberdeen, SD where I am from, and what inspired him to write the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

I can not believe that this is the last challenge that Linda at Studio L3 is hosting. I had the best intentions of completing every weekly challenge--however life took over and I moved back to my home State of South Dakota. I did in spirit keep up with the challenges, previewing Linda's site weekly. When I saw this was the last challenge, I knew that I had to participate. Plus the prize package is a great one. The stamp set is one that I have always wanted. I think it would be great to win this challenge. So with that being said. . .here is my submission.

altered ancestors

WOW! what a month. Not only has there been a lot of snow my computer crashed. Not to worry I was told that the hard drive is fine, and that it is an issue with the power supply. Thank goodness for that, I was worried that I would have lost all of my clip art and projects. Well I ended up getting a new lap top which is great I can hook it up to my TV and watch shows that are not available up here in South Dakota that I had in Texas.

My craft room is coming along the walls are painted. and the cabinets have been built. Time to organize. But before I start that I had to finish up a Swap: Altered Ancestors, hosted by Gloria at All Things Tim, Yahoo Group.

I wanted to share a couple of pics one is of the front. The alteration of this pic, which is my favorite pic that I have in my collection, putting glasses made out of electrical wire sent to me by my great friend Liz. I have come to call this young man Nigel Pinkston.

The concept of this swap was to take a photo of prior to 1950 an "ancestor" an alter to pic.

The back of the page was not to be left blank , so Thank you to another good friend, Inge from Belgium, took this picture of Nigel Pinkston and created a rubber stamp for me. I love it and thank you Inge.

Stamping the image, I then created a mask and stamped the fabric stamp over the page, adding the pointing finger and a stamped image of a Kirby Ink ad.

It feels so good to be connected back to the world wide web and my blog and back to my crafting.

Please let me know what you think of this project. (Sorry that the pics are sideways, still learning this computer)

Vintage Sunday Give-a-Ways & Challenge

Vintage Sunday Giveaway -- and a Challenge

I have throughout my vintage shopping and started my own collection, and thought that I too could scan and post for people to have from my blog. So I am starting my Vintage giveaways today. Here is what I came up with

1st project of 2011

for my first creative project of 2011. I used a small canvas that I received as a RAK. Other materials; Sticky Back Canvas, Distress Ink; Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain, Tissue Tape and Perfect Pearls-Gold.

I found this great image online while surfing the web, printed it on the Sticky Back Canvas, placed on the small canvas, edged it in tissue tape. I used a nib to paint on the green in the leaves and edged it with Walnut Stain. Then I misted it with my concoction of Perfect Pearl and water.
