16th Phil, International Hot Air Balloon fest in Clark field Pampanga

Last Februaary 11, 2011 my family and I went to the 16th PIHAB Fiesta in Air Force City in Clark Field Pampanga.

For the uninitiated, you have to leave Manila at around 1AM to be at the venue well before queues start to lengthen and parking spaces to fill up, lest you park far away from the gate.

To get to Clark field, from Balintawak in QC, (you pay Php41 pesos for toll) then you

exit Dau (pay Php 194 pesos upon exit). Turn LEFT from the tollbooth and just go straight. Pass by the WELCOME TO MABALACAT PAMPANGA ark then at the end of the road turn LEFT towards Angeles Pampanga. Do not turn RIGHT, lest you wanna go to Baguio.... hehe. After taking a LEFT turn, go straight then take a RIGHT turn to Clark Field. Air Force City is on the right side of the road. you will not miss it.

Oh btw, Clark Field is 2 and 1/2 hours away from Manila. Be ready for the long drives and some traffic if you'd wish to go in the afternoon or at rush hour.

Tickets to the Hot Air Balloon fest is Php 150/person. Parking fee is flat rate Php 50.

If you want to ride the Hot Air Balloon, its USD150/person or roughly Php

6,600. I promise, I'll ride the balloon next year!!!

Off to Quiapo....

I am off to Quiapo tomorrow.... err later today i mean... haha. It's maybe 30 minutes past midnight and I am still wide awake. Maybe will sleep at around 2 or 3 am at most (and that's normal for me). Wake up at around 10am then hie off to Quiapo.

Reason why am going to Quiapo is I will buy necessary stuff for my DSLR. I need a lens cap and a rocket blower and maybe canvass for a dry box.

I lost my lens cap last week when I went to the 16th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fest in Air Force City in Clark field in Pampanga. It was an awesome experience seeing gigantic balloons and ultralightlight 1 seater or 2 seater planes in exhibition.

I really cannot remember how I lost the lens cap though. I remember holding the lens cap..... and that was it. I remember shooting 300-400 pics but i don;t remember how I lost the lens cap... haha. Forgetful me!!!

Well, for non-photography enthusiasts, well you may ask why i would go to Quiapo to buy DSLR stuff; here's a well known secret of Quiapo..... HIDALGO Street. That's where. A plethora of DSLR cameras to Point and Shoot cameras and all accessories from A to Z are all there. The best part is (drum roll) EVERYTHING IS CHEAPER THAN WHAT THEY SELL IN MALLS!!!

You really get bargains there. The prices of cameras there are thousands of pesos cheaper thatn what is sold in malls. The drawback though is WARRANTY.

When I had my Nikon D90 cleaned (1 week wait time) in Columbia Digital in SM Megamall, the dude there who handed my squeaky clean camera back to me in a ziplock bag asked me where I bought my camera, I told him Henry's in Hidalgo. As I was putting on my 18-70mm lens to test the camera, the dude asked how much did I buy it there and if I bought it as a kit. I told him the price and replied that I bought the D90 as body only and went back to tinkering with the camera controls. He then told me that my 18-70mm lens was a rarity nowadays since the lens came with the Nikon D70 prosumer DSLR as a kit lens.

As these were going on, he was then preparing the paperwork and chatting about the reason why DSLR's in Hidalgo are cheaper than in Columbia Digital is because of the Warranty. The units there come with 2 year and some even 3 year limited warranties while the ones from the "grey market" come only with official store warranties (as long as you buy from well known camera dealers in Hidalgo and not those seedy and fly by night thingies. Oh, on my official receipt for the camera cleaning.... it cost me Php 2,000 pesos. Well worth it.

I was glad that even if mine was from the "grey market" Columbia Digital still serviced mine. Another thing, for Nikon fans out there, rumor has it that an Official Nikon Service Center will be put up in SM Megamall soon. Wheeee..... a very good news indeed!!

For those of you who want to know how to get to Hidalgo by commute, here's how:

1. Take a Pasig River ferry from Guadalupe, Rockwell, San. Joaquin Pasig or wherever you are nearer then alight in the Quiapo River Ferry station near Quezon Bridge. Its always after the Escolta ferry station... mind you. Walk past Carlos Palanca Street (after walking thru the carinderias and the market) and go to the main road Quezon Blvd. Walk to Plaza Miranda and Quiapo Church. The first street there is R Hidalgo. Take a LEFT and just go straight. You will see the SM Clearance Store at the end of the road. You are there.

2. Take the LRT and alight in Carriedo Station. Walk to SM Clearance store and exit at Watsons. There you are right center in Hidalgo.

A Singapore Christmas - DAY 1 (arrival in Singapore)

My friend and I have been planning this out of the country trip years ago.
Well, I was supposed to go with my friend to Vietnam last 2009 i think, but I had work. This year to Sanya, China, but I wasn't able to accompany him again.

After weeks of arduous planning, tons of SMS messages and email messages sent by both of us to each other, the plan slowly came to reality. Our destination was to spend the upcoming Christmas Holidays in SINGAPORE.

We bought our tickets online via TIGER AIRWAYS.
BTW, for Filipinos, Tiger Airways NOW operates at NAIA TERMINAL 1 for flights bound for SG.

We booked three weeks before Christmas and booked our HOSTEL the same day we bought tickets.
Yup, you heard it right HOSTEL... we stayed in a backpackers hostel to save on exorbitant Hotel fees and get a kick out of life and living the backpackers dream.

We opted to stay in the dorm rooms since all the other double and twin sharing rooms were already availed by others. As you can see, there is a 7-11 convenience store beside the hostel.

At the Inn Crowd, after checking in, "residents" are given badge in/out access cards (those from the call center industry are well familiar with these contraptions). Before you enter the main door, you swipe the card on an electronic sensor so the front door will open and you can enter the hostel. When going out, there is a button at the right side of the main door that you press so the door will open. You pay S$5 for the deposit in case you lose the access card. You can also opt to pay another S$5 for the padlock of the lockers in case you did not bring a spare.

Bathrooms and Toilets are shared and is in the common area.

Clean bath stalls.

Don't worry, there are enough bath stalls and toilet stalls for you picky readers. There is HOT and COLD water and disposable hygienic bath towels for S$2.50 (if you forget to bring towels). There is also a laundry area upstairs if you want to do your own laundry.

One of the hostel's house rules is CLAYGO (Clean As You Go); referring to cleaning up after breakfast. Breakfast is free but you have to clean up after you go off. Another is NO SHOES/SLIPPERS in the main living area. You leave them before you go to the first floor dorms and up the stairs to the second and third floor living area where the dorms are. Checkout time is at 11AM and if you are running late for your flight home, they offer a hostel to the airport transfer for just S$6.50.

Tis the season to be merry, jolly and maxing out your Credit Card.
Well for others, the joy of Christmas is spent at home just with family and friends and Noche Buena. Wherein the Noche Buena spectrum ranges from the lavish, scrumptious and bountiful, simple and meager.

Some on the other hand will spend it elsewhere. Whether here or abroad.

Others are with the company of friends in the workplace since their job will require them to. Call center the peeps anyone?!?!

Sadly, most of the populace who have nothing will not celebrate the holiday at all since for them Christmas is just a day in their daily lives. Some kids do not even know "who" Santa Claus is.

But...

The boottom line is the HOW and WHERE or WHAT YOU EAT are meaningless when the REAL reason why CHRISTmas is celebrated is not evident nor even realized.

HAVE A WONDERFUL AND MEANINGFUL CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

10 Fun Things I can Do with a Lenovo Laptop!

Just got wind of this Lenovo giveaway contest from one of my favorite tech bloggers Sir Yuga. Here then is my official entry. :D

1. Wheee! I can now replace my old Blue M626 Core Duo laptop and/or my other Acer Aspire 3626 (with a cracked hinge due to normal wear and tear :c)

So what's next after Idol?

Look a the BIG picture... Adam will be Iconic; he will use his fame and will push boundaries. I loved the post show interview... Adam was never bitter.... yes he was disappointed (everyone standing in Adam's place would be... right?) but he said it never really mattered who won. What is important is what's next after Idol.
That is really the attitude a real winner can have. American Idol is really just a voting contest... at least Adam said himself that he had a wild time there... no one ever shushed him from doing what he liked... ever...

GO ADAM... be positive; be that smiling, charismatic, thankful, humble stellar star that you WILL be always.

Kris wins, America votes.... so what!!!
My sentiments are never over hahaha.... But kidding aside, of al the contestants in Idol, its mostly the runners up who makes the cut in the real world.

Adam is really BORN TO BE WILD... and ooohh... he loved his Roberto Cavalli jacket!!

With the stellar performances you have done, the real talent, the one who turned American Idol around. There is really no WINNER or LOSER in this finale. Surely... YOU WILL GO PLACES!!! You are in a different league and will always be.

KISS frontman Gene Simmons was so impressed by Adam Lambert, he told “Extra,” “Adam was fantastic. What a powerful and attractive man he is. He can come on tour whenever he’d like. AMERICAN IDOL FINALS: Adam vs Kris

I have just watched the final performance of Adam vs Kris via live feed.
The 2 remaining contestants sang 3 songs. First is a song they previously sang, the Second is a song chosen for them by Simon Fuller (creator of American Idol) and the last was a song ttled "No Boundaries" penned by Kara Dioguardi one of the 4 American Idol judges.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

FIRST ROUND:
Adam singing "Mad World"

Kris singing "Ain't no Sunshine"

SECOND ROUND:
Adam singing "A Change is Gonna Come"

Kris singing "What's Going On"

LAST ROUND:
Adam and Kris each sang "No Boundaries"

VERDICT:
Round 1: Adam in favor of all except Simon who criticizes his long coat and says "it was too theatrical" and "reminded me of Phantom of the Opera".
Kris was amazing while playing the piano.

Round 2:
Adam clearly wins this round.

Round 3:
Simon telling Adam "you are a worldwide star"
Simon to Kris: "You deserve to be here tonight"

I am hands down for ADAM LAMBERT. He deserves to win no matter what. MAny may say that it is unfair for Kris or any other contestant because Adam had a lot of experiences with theater, being on stage and whatnot. It's not unfair because Adam just came in with many tricks up his sleeve and surprises to boot.

The question is... IS THE WORLD READY FOR SOMEONE LIKE ADAM LAMBERT?

The answer is YES! He is the new age musician, breaking all the boundaries of the norm, guyliner and all. Adam is Adam whether you like it or not, he is not afraid to show the world who he truly is. He is brave, energetic, flamboyant and a risk taker.

Even if he does not win... he will go places.... He has the guts, the talent and the nerve to be where he wants to be... AND he really wants to WIN in AMERICAN IDOL.

well... i got bitten by this bag craze thingy waaay back but just got the courage and had enough finances to start collecting luxury bags....
