Christian Sadler, of Barrington, sent his mother out to a warehouse store to get hundreds of Kit-Kats, Hershey bars and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups so he could harvest the wrappers. Sadler glued the red, orange and brown papers into a pastiche for the bustier on an original fashion design, which he calls “a cross between Willy Wonka and the Moulin Rouge.”

For the skirt, he gathered heavy-duty trash bags and sprayed them silver.

Sadler’s dress, one of several garments made by teenagers from recycled materials, will come to life on the runway at the Warwick Mall on Saturday in a “trashy fashion” show.

So, Bing, earlier known as the Kumo is finally here. Announced at the recently concluded D: All Things Digital conference, the Bing is Microsoft's first dedicated attempt to challenge Google's domination in the search arena. And prima facie, it seems to be a very good attempt indeed if we are to go by the worldwide reviews received soon after launch. Bing is all set to replace Windows Live Search and will be fully operational, starting Wednesday - although it's available in most countries now.

It was not so busy at Huaz Khas in the morning. We started from D.A.V. School, Gurgaon at 8:00 AM and reached IIT-DELHI at about 9:00 AM. It was not so happening inside the bus, Until our bus entered the Main Gate.
Every student had his/her own purpose of this visit to IIT-D. Many of students were wishing to learn from the IITian, How actually they cleared the JEE and take some tips as they will be one sitting for exams next year. Well there was going to be an entire Counseling Session for this, but we had to return earlier. I had been there to see the projects and research works that were exhibited there for us and write this article for you all.

Guidelines by Ritu Madan, Academic Supervisor, Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi, on how to crack the Economics and Social Development paper.

Scoring well in the Class X Social Science paper seems to give students sleepless nights --- but cheer up! There is nothing to panic about as the new course introduced by the CBSE is much simpler and easier to learn. Moreover always remember that systematic preparation and objective analysis of the syllabi of sample papers will help you to achieve high grades.
The Social Science paper of Class X will only be of 80 marks, just like last year, as 20 marks have been allotted to internal assessment. The division of marks is as follows:

• Modern India (History): 20 marks
• Resources and their Civilisation: 28 marks
• Economic and Social Development: 24 marks
• Disaster Management: 8 marks

The question paper will consist of 24 questions, the last question being map-based. All three questions worth six marks each (one question from each unit) and two of four marks each will be choice-based. The unit on Disaster Management appears to be very vast but can be handled if important paragraphs are located and the answers to questions are highlighted in advance.

In Economic and Social Development, the chapters on Major Challenges before the Indian Economy and Challenges of Communalism and Casteism are extremely important as they carry 10 and six marks respectively. Sections on Poverty and Unemployment and Price Rise need thorough preparation.

Your emphasis must be on thoroughly understanding your lessons instead of merely learning them by heart.

Focusing on the causes, impacts and remedies of economic and social problems will be fruitful. For instance, for a question based on the statement 'Poverty and occupation are directly linked to each other', substantiate your answer with relevant arguments. You may not find a direct answer in your textbook but if you have a thorough understanding of the chapter, you will realise that the answer lies in linking the issue with the various causes of unemployment.
Your preparation strategy in the remaining few weeks:
• The CBSE has allotted 15 minutes extra time, which should be utilised to read the questions properly and understand them. Any confusion in your understanding of the question will lead to an incorrect answer.
• Answers should be to the point, without any frills. The right presentation will also matter.
• When answering your paper follow the sequence of the questions.
• Answer only in points as it is vital from the marking point of view.
• Highlight the main idea or give a subtitle.
• Practise by writing down your answers. Attempt the sample papers issued by the CBSE and the previous year's question papers.
• Do not leave any question unanswered. Ponder over a question even if you do not know it.

LIFE PROCESSES

1.) Life – An organism is said to have life if it is performing all the metabolic activities means they can Grow, Reproduce, respire etc.

2.) Catalysts are substances that increase the rate of reaction of reactants without affecting the product.

3.) Enzymes are Biological Catalysts present in organisms, they are basically Proteins in nature. Uses - They help in altering rate of reaction either forward or backward. They help in conducting Metabolic Activities.

Metabolic Activities –

I.) NUTRITION

Nutrition is a process in which a organism intakes food and utilizes it for its growth and Development.

Food à Simple Compounds

(involves Oxidation and Reduction Reaction)

II.) RESPIRATION

Exchange of Gases takes Place.

III.) CIRCULATION/TRANSPORTATION

IV.) EXCRETION

MODE OF NUTRITION :-

I.) Autotrophic Nutrition

Organisms which can synthesize its food with the help of Photosynthesis

CO2 + H2O {light}à C6H12O6 + Energy + O2

Such Autotrophes which synthesis their food from Light are also called Photo-Autotrophes. The range of wavelength of length which helps in Photosynthesis is 400 nm – 700 nm

Photosythesis is the process in which the raw material like CO2 and Water are converted to food i.e. Glucose in presence of Sunlight and Chlorophyll.

Some Bacteria are also autotrophes but they don’t prepare their food from Light but from Complex Chemical Compounds, they are called Chemo-Autotrophes. Ex. Sulphur Bacteria,

Complex Compounds à {Energy is Released} Simple Compounds

The Glucose is stored in the form of Starch.

II.) Heterotrophic Nutrition

Heterotrophic nutrition can be defined as a type of nutrition in which energy is derived from the organic substances that are obtained from plants or animals. The organic substances after intake are first digested into simple forms, then are utilised by the organism.

In Organisms feeding on dead and decaying matter. E.g. Fungi

c. Parasitic Nutrition

In Organisms feeding on other living organisms. Absorb nutrition without killing organism. eg, Leech, flatworm.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN PLANT LEAF

Step 1 – Chlorophyll will absorb light and convert light energy into chemical energy.

Step 2 – Splitting of water molecule. 2H2O à 4H+ + O2+ + 4e- in thylakoids

Step 3 – Reduction of CO2 to Carbohydrates C6H12O6 takes place.

Photosynthesis is maximum in Red and blue light, no photosynthesis in Green light, as green coloured Chloroplast reflect the Green light so no light is absorbed.

Stomata are the site for exchange of gases. The Pore in the centre is called stoma pore, present on Epidermis. Guard Cell – Regulate Opening and Closing of Stoma.
