I had a yard sale Friday and Saturday.....

Then Saturday night we camped down by the lake.

Sunday was Family Day, we went and saw the new SuperMan movie in 3D.

Garden with a View...

One of the hardest areas of my garden to show you is the Butterfly Hill.

It is hard to appreciate the colors and get in all in perspective.

It is my biggest undertaking in gardening.

This steep of a hill has definate challenges.

But I love how it showcases the plants like a stage.

This is the view from the driveway...

This is from the rose garden side...

And this is from below... which most people do not see.

I have a bit of everything in this garden.

But everything has to be tough. Full sun, too much drainage... you know how hills can be.

But each season if fills in more and looks better.

Especially with the grasses blowing in the wind.

And the butterlfies fluttering about.

So if you cannot find me.... look for me here.

Sitting on the bench looking out at the lake.

And enjoying a quiet morning in the garden.

Meet The Kittens....

For all of my Fur Baby Fans out there.... Meet my sweet boys...

Pumpkin... aka...Punk...aka Punky Pie with Extra Whipped Cream...

And Twink... Or Twinkie Boy.

Poor things, yes... those are some crazy names.

But they are beyond sweet.

They are from the same litter and are so happy together here in the garden.

They follow me around and sneak into pictures.

I am sure you'll be seeing much more of them this summer.

We actually have three kittens this year.

But my pretty girl Ivy Rose has been hard to photograph.

This is a really bad photo, but she is just beautiful in person.

Her belly is almost white and she is the softest kitten to pet.

But Ivy is a typical girl.. she is a diva and really only makes up to my daughter.

For the longest time she looked like a mouse running under your feet!

Favorite Flowers - Invincibelle Spirit Hydrangea

You can't help but notice the lovely pink blooms...

Of Invincibelle Spirit Hydrangea....

This is a pink Annabelle Hydrangea that is a fairly new cultivar.

Mine is three years old and has never looked prettier than it does this week.

I look forward to at full maturity. It is stunning already.

Favorite Flowers - Husker Red Penstemon

Today I thought I would share a beautiful perennial blooming in my Indiana garden.

It is Husker Red Penstemon.

It has wonderful chocolate-burgundy red foliage.

And sweet white-pinkish-purple blooms.

It stands about 30" tall and 24" wide.

It self-seeds but is not invasive.

It just blooms the one time, but the foliage is pretty all year.

I love Penstemons and grow several colors, but the pretty foliage on Husker Red really makes it a stand out.

More Perennial Plants... My Sedums in Containers

Thought I would show you the containers at my garage today.

They are in full sun and get almost no care whatsoever.

Poor things, it has to be boiling or I don't even water them.... Ever.

But they just grow their little hearts out. Happy as can be.

That's sedums for you. Tough as nails once you get them going.

These were in the basement all winter and they looked a little rough.

They will come back just fine. It's just been too cold and rainy here.

Once the sun stays out and it gets hot they will triple in size.

This one is three years old and this is the best it has every looked.

Can't wait till it blooms.

Just a few things from around the garden like ground covers and a Autumn Joy start.

You can't beat that.... Easy...Free and did I say EASY?

Favorite Flowers - Oh So Easy Peaches and Cream Roses

Do you know the saying... Right plant, wrong place?

That was the case of this rose when I first got it.

I could never keep it where I wanted it to be.

It is a ground cover rose and it loves to spread out.

This is Oh So Easy Peaches and Cream.

And she is a real beauty.

Best of all she is now in the PERFECT SPOT.

Because the can flow right over onto my rocks and bloom her heart out.

She extends the garden entry and softens the walkway.

I could not be more thrilled.

And look at these colors.

Pinks, peaches, yellows, creams.... wow.

The white blooms you can see in the background are White Yarrow.

It can kind of take over, but I pull out what I don't want.

It is so pretty in a country garden.

Funny how things work out that way!

Enjoy all the happy surprises that awaits us in our gardens!

PS... I am now at -40 pounds and I cannot be more thrilled!

All those days pulling weeds and cutting back roses must have worked!

This Year's Window Boxes

Today I wanted to share my window boxes at the front walk.

To me they look especially nice this year.

The thing I am most thrilled about is... I have not done a things to them.

Except fertilize in March.

You see they are perennials.

And they have came back bigger and better every year.

So all I have done is add some annual moss rose in the pretty blue pot.

And enjoyed the lush texture and blooms along the walk.

As you can see, it gets mostly shade.

And I water them often, but that is pretty much it.

But wow... everything else has sure changed!

What is in it? All plants I have in excess in my garden.

Purple Palace Heuchera (Coral Bells)

Hosta

Creeping Jenny

Flag Iris

And a few starts of Coleus from cuttings... we'll see if they make it!

I just gathered up a few starts and some good potting soil and wha-la!

Feels Like Summer To Me

Welcome to summer here at the lake...

That is what it is feeling like to me this week.

When the daylilies and hydrangeas start blooming... it is Summer to me.

And I could not be happier! See this little guy... he makes me happy too.

This one's name is Pumpkin....

he has an almost identical brother Twinkie...

and a third kitten Ivy that is grey.

They are so sweet.

We have been playing with them all week.

More pics to come.

They follow me around the garden and sneak into pictures!

This week I have been doing clean up.

I cut back all the roses that were huge in this area...

I know it seems harsh. But now you can see all the perennial blooming.

The roses will come back better than ever.

And now you can walk to my front door!

I have several white blooms right now.

Last year I added almost everything white I could find.

This is a lovely old fashioned Penstemon.

I only wish it bloomed longer.

The clematises have been so pretty this year.

I love them on the porch because they have double the view.

Inside blooms and outside interest in the garden.

Here is another of my heirloom plants...

White Hardy Geranium. I have never seen this online.

I got this start from my MIL and it is very old.

It has a lovely small leaf, almost like an ivy.

Just blooms the one time, but makes a great groundcover.

White clematises on each side of the steps.

A few of the purples, blues and pinks are starting to pop up.

More color will be here later in the summer with the hydrangeas.

Don't you love the touch of white in this purple one. It is almost blue.

Little flag irises are so cute, another touch of blue.

Pink Spiderwart is hard to find, but well worth it.

I finally have it where it will not get too hot this year.

Hopefully it will be happy and bloom all summer.

Sweet William from seed is the dark pink.

An astilbe is just starting to show color in the background.

Can You Believe It? More Roses!

Don't say I haven't warned you... I've been taking a lot of pictures this week.

But with everything blooming... how can you blame me.

I am loving these blue skies after all the rain we have been getting.

Ane the roses are too! This is First Prize... great name huh?

But what I also wanted to share is my 'Shogun' Jap. Irises!

They are taller than other irises and can stand tall with the roses.

I just love the purple contrast with all my pinks and whites.

This is Florence Nightingale, isn't she lovely.

She is a new hybrid but looks like an antique rose.

She gets top honors as a good white rose from me.

The irises are past my waist, they are just stunning.

They match my bench, a happy surprise.

A Big, Huge, Gigantic, Unbelievably Wonderful Rose Post!

How can you not love this golden beauty.

Every color from cream to peach to almost orange.

So much to show you, I don't know where to shoot.

The Perfumed Garden, A Rose Garden Post

Yes, I finally have rose garden pics to share!

Actually I have taken a TON of pics for you!

It has been so rainy, I feel like I am behind in posts.

But today I wanted to share "The Perfumed Garden", the roses are in full flush.

And yes, I definitely am a gardener that stops and smells the roses.

Scent is important to me... I choose many of my roses just for the smells.

Beauties like Queen Elizabeth with a classic rose scent.

Bloom just inside my cottage fence and arbor.

A lovely pale yellow lily grows in a container, waiting to be planted in the garden.

A look from just outside the fence.

Strawberry Hill, an Austin rose is a new favorite.

She has a fruity scent... devine!

But with so many how can you choose which to love the most?

You just love them all...

Perennials and cottage annuals bloom just outside the fence.

Lots of blues, pinks and purples in this garden.

The pink roses on the arbor have already flushed, they will be back in no time.

A sedum seems happy in this old milk container.

I think I see a few babies popping out.

Wish you were here to see it in person and smell all the lovely scents!

I swear you can smell the roses from every corner of the house right now.

The Fairy Garden in June Bloom

On the side of the house by the road is what I call "The Fairy Garden".

It is called that because of the 14 'The Fairy' roses planted along the windows.

The Fairy is an old rose, I think of it as an original landscape rose.

It is a florabunda miniature. But it is not dwarf in size.

They can get quite large. Actually I am counting on it.

My goal is for them to be seen from inside the house looking out.

"A House in the Roses"

All along this border is pink and white... one of my favorite is the "Lollypop Lilies".

Stargazers, orientals, several kinds are ready to bloom along this path.

My Jane Magnolia bloomed a few weeks ago, but she adds some much needed height.

Sweet William from seed gets better and better each year.

If I cut it back I may get a second bloom.

Crepe Myrtles and a Strawberry Vanilla Hydrangea add to the pink later in the season.

Houtinya or Clown Plant is the groundcover.

It smells so good and has sweet little white flowers in early summer.

Pink salvias and white yarrows are always welcome in a Fairy Garden.

Sweet Alyssum is just starting to bloom from seed.

It will add more white loveliness.

The Fairy statues make a nice focal point. I have a lady and a cherub.

Daylilies are almost blooming in this bed as well.

A look towards the porch.

Its pretty to look out from the swing to this area.

It overlooks the lake in the back yard.

Memorial Day Weekend Blooms

Just popping in to share how pretty the back gardens look today.

We've had a few showers, but mostly good weather for the holiday weekend.

Lots of activity here at the lake.

Good food and time with friends.

Kids on the four-wheelers and a few boats out.

The neighbors were in the lake yesterday.... but it is way too cold for me yet!

But every day it seems more like summer.

Spring Flush!! Arbor and Fence of the Rose Garden...

Just dropping in on this holiday weekend to share the roses in bloom!

This is one of those days you would like to freeze in time.

When almost every rose in your garden is blooming at once.

And the sky is a beautiful blue backdrop.

I hurried on my lunch hour and took these for you.

I am in awe at how many blooms there are this year.

I just walk in circles ooooohhhhhing and aaawwweeeeeing.

This is a good time to be a rose gardener.

You can smell them from all around the garden this week.

Actually, everything is just blooming at once.

Changing so fast from spring to summer like.

The roses in this garden are three years old this summer.

It is amazing how much they have grown and filled in.

There are over 60 roses in this garden alone... and about 125 in all my gardens.

I wish you could see them in person.

I never think the pictures do them justice.

Reasons To Celebrate....

Good Morning Dear Friends...

It is a beautiful day here in Indiana.

The birds are singing and we have all the windows open.

Today I thought it might be nice to share some good things....

Making this a Thankful Thursday Post.

Like today is the last day of school for the girls....

And yesterday was hubby and I's 14th wedding anniversary.

(We spent the day together in Henderson, Ky shopping)

Big sister won most improved player last night at the Tennis Banquet.

(And our school girls softball team won sectional last night too!)

And this is something I don't normally talk about here...

but as of the last few weeks... I have lost 35 pounds

and three sizes on my diet/workout/new lifestyle plan!

I feel so much better.

Just eating healthy and moving more.

I felt like counting my blessings today.

Plenty Of Blooms To Go Around....

Hello dear friends!

Welcome to our country home.

Today I am sharing the roses, peonies and irises blooming at the front walk.

It is simply beautiful today after storms overnight.

Luckily we did not have any damage, but more rain and mud to deal with.

But the garden will enjoy the extra water come summer and the heat to come.

But for now we will enjoy these lovely May days.

I swear I could take pictures every day and not catch all that is blooming this week.

I am over the moon to see the roses blooming again.

These are pink double knockouts. I just love this picture.

Hope you have lots of pretty things blooming at your house as well!

Healing Time In The Garden...

May in a garden brings many things....

Lush textures....

Vibrant Colors...

Sweet scents....

All at once we burst into bloom....

There is so much at once we are surrounded by beauty.

The garden gives so much to our lives...

I hope you can take comfort and joy in your gardens....

In this sorrowful time.

Taking time out to remember the children, teachers,
families, friends, animals, emergency workers
and countless volunteers who have
been affected by the devastating tornado
in Moore, Oklahoma.
You are in our prayers.

Revelation 21:4:

And God shall wipe away all tears
from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death,
neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain:
for the former things are passed away.

Notes From A Country Garden - Mid-May Garden Tour

Hello dear friends.... it has been a beautiful Sunday here in Indiana.

I wanted to share with you what is blooming out by the road.

This is another area that I don't take enough pictures of.

This lovely iris is blooming for the first time.

Don't have any idea what its name is.

Full Tide Irises in the island bed.

Wow, that is a pretty surprise!

Many irises are blooming for the first time for me this year.
