Preview: “Big Tuna” David Lynch Tribute @ Alcove Arts

Coming this Friday July 10th at the Alcove Gallery in Decatur, GA is a group show featuring work inspired by David Lynch films. The lineup of the show is pretty impressive with paintings from such artists as : David MacDowell, Amy Botello, Lesli Ditto, Apricot Mantle, Dan May, Chet Zar and many more. I personally am a fan of themed shows. I know that is makes it difficult sometimes for some artists to fit in, but I think it is often a good example of how an artists style can be pushed to present unique ideas. Some great works that are unexpected also come from themed shows, just look at the art in this preview. I love what David MacDowell submitted as well as Apricot Mantle and another unique handmade frame made out of 1600 black and white pencil erasers!

“Michael Thrilling” original by Dienzo

I know there has been an insane amount of media about Michael Jackson, but this one I figured would be welcome. The artist known as Dienzo has put up a painting for sale entitled “Michael Thrilling”. The painting is acrylic on canvas board, 11″ x 14″ and framed. It was originally made for an “80’s themed show earlier this year at The Phantom Gallery in Orange”. It’s a great looking painting, and perfect for all of those that were inspired by one of the coolest videos of the 80’s

Justin Kamerer (Angryblue) and Jeral Tidwell (Humantree.com) have released a second Ink Alchemy Book. Volume 2 has a 3 color screen printed cover, and over 40 pages of illustration from these two artists. The book is limited to 650 copies for only $20 (plus shipping). Also for an added bonus, the first 100 orders get 2 small art prints and a bunch of stickers. Can’t beat that.

New Jeff Soto print @ Tiny Showcase

This Tuesday, July 7th at 7:30pm EST Tony Showcase will release a new print from Jeff Soto. Most of the prints that end up on Tiny Showcase sell out pretty fast, I have a feeling this is going to be a record. Not only are the prints small and affordable, but often help out charities such as the Sea Shepard Conservation Society where a portion of the sales of thee prints will go. The prints will be 5″ x 5″ limited to 200 for $20.

Scott Campbell has new prints for sale over at the Poster Cabaret. There is a large amount of prints available, in various sizes all for around $30-40 each. The prints are limited and it looks as though a few of them are already sold out. I was thinking about getting the “Keeping them at bay” print (shown first) but it’s now sold out. I waited too long.

A little bit of a delay for the featured artists area, pretty much skipped all of June. But this months featured artists are just what was needed to get it all started again. Porterhouse Fine Art Editions is now taking preorders for the very first vinyl collectible toy by Mark Ryden. YHWH is 16.5″ x 9″ x 1.75″, and limited to an edition of 2,000 for $180. The official release date is July 10th, so if you are looking to grab one of these I would head over there now. It also comes in a pretty snazzy box.
I really would have liked to see a vinyl toy of another of Mark’s characters, but you can’t deny this is one unique looking toy.

“NDIF Print and Shirt Package” by Mark Riddick

Mark Riddick is an artist out of Northern Virgina. His worked with all sorts of bands and labels, and was the genius behind the Metalocalpyse poster I talked about before. Mark currently has a print and shirt combo on sale right now. A portion of this sale will go to the NDI Foundation, to help support research for this “rare genetic disorder called Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus (NDI).” So not only are you getting an amazing print, and a shirt, but your also able to help out and hopefully make someone else’s life better in the process.
