Rochdale Council of Mosques Condemn Attack on Soldier in Woolwich

The Rochdale Council of Mosques (RCM) wholeheartedly condemns the horrific murder that has taken place in Woolwich, London. Eye-witnesses suggest that the murderers made Islamic slogans during their heinous action and were thus motivated by the Islamic faith. This is nothing but a barbaric crime and cold blooded murder committed in broad daylight – it has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family and indeed those individuals who had to witness this crime. We understand the victim is a serving member of the Armed Forces. Muslims have long served in this country’s Armed Forces, proudly and with honour. This attack on a member of the Armed Forces is dishonourable, and no cause justifies this murder. From whatever angle you see yesterday’s attack it was at every level evil. These evil men cannot be allowed to use the sacred name of God – Allah and the peaceful religion of Islam to masquerade their psychotic behaviour.This act will no doubt heighten tensions on the streets of Britain. We call on all our communities living in Rochdale & elsewhere, Muslim and non-Muslim’s, to come together in solidarity to ensure the forces of hatred do not divide us. It is important we allow our security services to do their job without speculation. We also urge the utmost vigilance and ask the Police and Local Authorities to calm tensions. We are living in challenging times, but we believe that the Rochdale community (and indeed everyone across the country) can pull through together and will remain strong & resolute to win the battle against all evil.

What has happened is wrong & totally unacceptable BUT ‘Islam & Muslims’ are not responsible for the actions of a few evil monsters just like Christians & Christianity are not responsible for the Norwegian Breivik who killed 76 on his self-confessed ‘Christian’ crusade. British Muslims cannot and must not be held responsible for 2 individuals (who it is alleged claim to be Muslims). We must not allow the far right groups like the EDL or BNP to take & spread their hate. We must purge our society of such hatred and violence.

We want to see these evil men to be dealt with the full force of law. May Allah – God Almighty give such people the greatest of punishment in this world and the hereafter. May Allah – God Almighty help the family of the victim through this difficult time – our deepest condolences and prayers for all those directly and indirectly affected

Maulana Muhammad Azam Chishti, Imam of Jamia Chishtiah Mosque, a prominent member of the local community, a founder member of the Rochdale Council of Mosques and Milad-e-Mustafa (PBUH) Committee passed away on the 12th January 2013 and was laid to rest yesterday 1st Rabi Ul Awwal (13th Jan).

Family and friends also pass on their thanks to all those who attended the janaza and to those who paid their respects for an individual who worked tirelessly for his congregation/community.

May Allah (swt) forgive his mistakes and grant him a place in Jannat al Firdous… Ameen.. X

‘Crescent Radio changed my life..’ so declared Raees Khan at his leaving party. ‘It all started with me emailing Faheem after listening to one of my favourite shows on Crescent Radio, the Sufi Show.’ One thing lead to another and before you know it eight years had elapsed. We wish Raees all the best in his new job at the BBC, recording writing and presenting on various shows. Before you know it the multi talented Raees Khan will be a shoe-in for the DG job!

Eid Announcement

Following the Rochdale Council of Mosque’s meeting tonight and confirmed moon sighting it is the 1st of Dhul Hijjah tomorrow.

The day of Hajj will be on Thursday 25th Oct with
Eid ul Adha on Friday 26th Oct.

A gentle reminder of the superiority of these 10 days come from a hadith:

The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

“There are no other days that are as great as these in the sight of Allah, the Most Sublime. Nor are there any deeds more beloved to Allah then those that are done in these ten days. So increase in tahlil (to say la illaha illallah), takbir (to say allahu akbar) and tahmid (to say alhumdulillah).” [Reported by at-Tabarani in al-Mu'jum al-Kabir]
