Sachin shocked Not going to celebrate his birth day

Sachin Tendulkar’s 38th birthday but he is not celebrating. Today Cricketing God Sachin is very sad on his spiritual guru Sathya Sai Baba’s Death in early morning. Incidentally 24th April is Sathya Sai Baba's death day and his great devotee Sachin's birthday.

Sachin Tendulkar stay today at Grand Kakatiya hotel, Hyderabad with Anjali and two children. Sachin was confined to his room with family and hung a sign that said, ‘Do Not Disturb.” A Hotel manager told, “He did not even have breakfast. No one was allowed to enter his room."

Sachin did not meet any of his friends and also teammates. Today Mumbai Indians will play against Deccan Chargers in IPL at Hyderabad, but it’s not yet clear that Sachin will play or not.

Earlier yesterday Sachin declared that he will not celebrate his 38th birthday and also not play match due to Sathya Sai Baba’s critical health condition.

India’s win in the ICC World Cup 2011 can be attributed to the following:
1.       Dhoni’s captaincy: Not too many captains have had such an ice-cool demeanour on the field as MS Dhoni. It stems from the fact that he can maintain his calmness under pressure and that means that the side has also been influenced by that in many ways.

2.       Zaheer’s bowling: He has been one of the most under-rated player for the side, but you need to give it to the man who has bowled so well – and picked up 21 wickets in the tournament. The batsmen did not top the run-getting charts but Zaheer was at the top of the bowling charts.

3.       Yuvraj Singh: He is an excellent talent, but he had gone into the tournament as one of those who would have probably not made it to the playing eleven. The things changed with this tournament and there was no looking back. He was the main difference between him and the rest of the sides – an all-rounder who could get the wickets.

Highest Test wicket taker Muttiah Muralitharan is highly unlikely that anyone in cricket tough or after can even approach the world scar the champion Sri Lanka bowler would set before retiring.

The ace off-spinner, who has grabbed a whopping 788 wickets to date from 131 Tests, is frustrated that he has been unable to make an impact in the ongoing three-Test series against India in which the visitors are trailing 0-1 going into the third and final match here from December 2.

The Kandy-born Muralitharan, at 37, in the autumn of his prolific career that commenced in the early 1990s, has threatened to walk into the sunset before the 2011 World Cup in the sub-continent because he feels he's no longer the silent assassin of yore.
Muralitharan has already announced his intention to quit the highest form of the game after his country's series against the West Indies next year but has now indicated he may quit ODIs too before the mega-event.

"I am 37 years old and I can't bowl as much as those days because after 15-16 overs I get tired. But I will try and play a little bit of one-day cricket that's only 10 overs to bowl. If I find everything is not going well I might retire from both forms of the game before the World Cup," he told a Sri Lanka newspaper after his country's massive innings defeat to India in the second Test at Kanpur.

In two Tests in the current series, Muralitharan has taken only five wickets after bowling over 100 overs, conceding close to 400 runs with a best of 3 for 97 to show for.

Even his overall record in India in Tests is not very impressive, considering his stupendous performance in his long career during which he has grabbed 10 wickets in a match on 22 occasions and five wickets in an innings 66 times.

In total contrast are his returns in India, a meagre 36 wickets in 10 matches with a best of 7 for 100 at a high cost of plus-45 runs per wicket. He has also not taken a 10-wicket haul in India.

This pales even against his modest record of 93 wickets in 20 Tests at home and away combined against India with an average of just under 33 per wicket, including two 10-wicket hauls at home.

But Muralitharan is not an isolated case as far as legendary spin bowlers coming a cropper against India in the latter's backyard is concerned.

Chennai: One-day cricket should not be scrapped as there is enough space in the international calendar to accommodate the format which is struggling to survive in the face of Twenty20's rising profile, feels Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.

"There is still space for 50-over format in international cricket. It gives batsmen an opportunity to show their talent, particularly the middle-order batsmen. Test is the toughest form of the game," Gambhir said.

Asked about the upcoming season, Gambhir said the Indian team is well-prepared to handle the challenges, which include a tri-series in Sri Lanka and Champions Trophy in South Africa.

Gambhir dismissed suggestions that Indian batsmen could not deal with the short ball well.

"It is only a hype that has been created. We do not face any such problems. I do not see it as a problem in our team," he said.

Asked about the Delhi players' recent stand-off with their state association, Gambhir said he doesn't know whether the row has ended permanently.

"I do not know whether it has been resolved temporarily or permanently," he said.

Gambhir, who features in the Indian team in all formats, has been roped in as brand ambassador by the tyre manufacturing company MRF Limited.

Announcing the company's decision and introducing Gambhir as its brand ambassador, K M Vinu Mammen, chairman of MRF said, "Gautam has been rising in stature in recent times and this has been endorsed by his recent nomination for the ICC Awards 2009 for the Cricketer of the Year and Test Player of the Year categories."

Referring to the company's past brand ambassadors, including Sachin Tendulkar, Australian Steve Waugh and West Indies' great Brian Lara, Mammen said, "There is certain brand equity by MRF in Indian cricket and we associate with cricketers. We always look forward to long term arrangement with our brand ambassadors.

New Zealand take revenge, sweep T20 series

Colombo: Daniel Vettori's New Zealand recorded their second Twenty20 success over Sri Lanka in three days with a 22-run victory on Friday that helped them sweep the two-match series.

The Kiwis, who won the first match on Wednesday by three runs, piled up 170-4 after winning the toss and then restricted the World Twenty20 finalists to 148-8 under lights at the Premadasa stadium.

Fast bowler Shane Bond led the Black Caps charge with 3-18 in four overs, while seamer Kyle Mills and off-spinner Nathan McCullum claimed two wickets each.

The 2-0 win helped the Kiwis overcome the disappointment of losing both the preceding Test matches and boosted their confidence ahead of a tri-series, also featuring India, that opens here on Tuesday.

New Zealand's innings revolved around an explosive opening stand of 84 in 10.2 overs by Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder after Vettori called correctly for the second time in a row.

Left-handed Ryder smashed three sixes and as many fours in his 52 off 37 balls, while McCullum hit a 34-ball 49 with two sixes and four boundaries.

Martin Guptill and Jacob Oram further boosted the total with a 43-run stand for the fourth wicket in 27 balls, before Guptill was bowled by Lasith Malinga off the final ball of the innings.

Sri Lanka, chasing a target of almost nine runs an over, made a disastrous start when they were reduced to 2-2 off the first seven deliveries and slid to 11-3 soon after.

Bond removed the in-form Tillakaratne Dilshan with his fifth ball, caught at deep square leg, before Kyle Mills dismissed Mahela Udawatte and Sanath Jayasuriya in successive overs.

Skipper Kumar Sangakkara and former captain Mahela Jayawardene put on a brisk 67 for the fourth wicket when Nathan McCullum hit back with two wickets in his first over.

The off-spinner, elder brother of Brendon McCullum had Jayawardene caught at backward point by Ryder off his third delivery for 41 off 30 balls.

He then removed new batsman Angelo Mathews with the final delivery of the innings to make Sri Lanka 80-5 in 11 overs.

Sangakkara gave Jacob Oram a return catch after making 69 before Bond sealed New Zealand's win with the wickets of all-rounder Gihan Rupasinghe and tailender Nuwan Kulasekara.

Earlier, McCullum and Ryder bulldozed the Sri Lankan attack for the first 10 overs, racing to 83 runs without being separated.

Jayasuriya broke the stand in the 11th over when he beat McCullum in the air and the batsman offered a simple return catch. Ryder took over after McCullum's departure, striking two sixes and a boundary in the 12th over sent down by Dilshan which yielded 20 runs.

Jayasuriya finished with 2-22 and Ajantha Mendis took 1-21, while pace spearhead Kulasekara went for 40 runs in four wicketless overs.

Mumbai, on their part, would be under pressure as none of their tactics payed off against Rajasthan Royals yesterday with Shane Warne-led side edging outing them by two runs.

With frequent chopping and changing in their batting order, Mumbai's star studded line up buckled under pressure in the last few matches.

But Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya along with JP Duminy, Dwayne Bravo and Abhishek Nayar would be expected to go all guns blazing to pull off tomorrow's affair in their favour.
