The term "blog" is a blend of the words web and log."Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Blogging:
First of all I became familiar with blog in this course it is not a scary animal anymore,It is full of fun and source of useful information. Blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order with chunk of text, images, links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Leaving comments by readers makes the blog more interactive.

Most blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs(photo blog), videos(vlog), or audio (podcasting), and are part of a wider network of social media. Blogs can be hosted by dedicated blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software, Many blog hosts are free (off course not fully featured) like "Blogger and Word Press" that made setting up a blog more easier. If you sign up with a blog host, you can create your post using the simple tools built into the host website without any technical knowledge, from any computer and internet connection. Also possible to update a blog via a regular phone, from a PDA, camera phone(case of a moblog).

"For WWW-290 course we mostly used Blogger.com for creating blog and "Feedburner.com"for creating Podcast". With new features being added all the time, Blogger is highly recommended for first-timers. By default, all Blogger blogs are hosted on "blogspot.com" Google allowed Blogger to incorporate compatibility with the photo-sharing utility Hello which lets you quickly post photos to your blog- and also manage and search through the photos on your computer. It is useful for "photo blogs".

(RSS) Really Simple Syndication (previously also called Rich Site Summary and RDF Site Summary) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated digital content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcast. Users of RSS content use software programs called "feed reader" or "feed aggregators".The user subscribes to a feed by entering a link of the feed into the reader program. The reader can then check the user's subscribed feeds to see if any of
those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user. RSS formats are specified in XML. Also To view feeds you can sign up with a Web-based aggregator such as Bloglines or Google Reader. All you do is that create an account, log in, choose which feeds you'd like to keep track of, and the website will create a customized page for you, displaying the relevant headlines. With Bloglines you don't have to deal with any software.

Also used Google Analytics (GA) which is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website or a blog. Its main highlight is that a webmaster can optimize their AdWords advertisement and marketing campaigns through the use of GA's analysis of where the visitors came from, how long they stayed on the blog or website and their geographical position.Most important thing is that, a webmaster can define and track conversions, or goals. Goals might include lead generation,sales, viewing a specific page, or
downloading a particular file. By using this tool, marketers can determine which ads are performing, and which are not, as well as find unexpected sources of quality visitors.

From pop-ups to banners,advertising is everywhere on the web,So we used free "Google AdSense" which is a service that provides unobtrusive advertising on your site based on the contents of each page. What is Podcast?

A podcast is a digital media file, or a series of such files, that is distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media players and personal computers with ".mp3", Or you can say it is a audioblog delivered using RSS(Really Simple Syndication). They have a similar format to blogs, with entries catalogued by time and date.The only difference is the presentation, which is oral as opposed to visual.The host or author of a podcast is often called a pod caster.The main advantage of Podcast over traditional online radio- which is streamed over the Internet in real time -is that they can be transferred to portable device such as MP3 player or iPod.

Though podcasters web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital media formats by its ability to be downloaded automatically, using software capable of reading feed formats such as RSS or Atom.

For course WWW-290 I used Feedburner.com for Podcast and to recording created MP3 files using Audacity. Audacity is a free/open source, cross platform digital audio editor, which has nice features like Importing and exporting MP3 ,Editing via Cut,Copy,Paste (with unlimited Undo),Multi-track mixing, Digital effects and effect plug-ins. and many more.

Using audio in blogs is called Audioblogs. There is usually a title and brief description, and linked audio file. Usually audioblogs are MP3 format,but they can be also in .Ogg Vorbis or .wav formats. A group of audio bloggers started to use RSS enclosures with their audioblog posts and a radio like content format. Audioblogs that use RSS are technically known as podcast.

A Video blog, sometimes shortened to vlog, is a blog that comprises video Or you can say in the way that audio blogs focus on sound, video blogs focus on video. Regular entries are typically presented in reverse chronological order and often combine embedded video or a video link with supporting text, images, and othermetadata. Vlogs also often take advantage of web syndication to allow for the distribution of video over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for automatic aggregation and playback on mobile devices and personal computers. Vlogs are generally five to ten minutes in length and feature posts like cooking lesson,videos of local festivities, short films, family events and hands-on product reviews.

Podcasting is an automatic mechanism whereby multimedia computer files are transferred from a server to a client, which pulls down XML files containing the Internet addresses of the media files. In general, these files contain audio or video, but also could be images, text, PDF, or any file type.A consumer uses a type of software known as an aggregator, sometimes called a podcatcher or podcast receiver, to subscribe to and manage their feeds.

Podcasting is becoming increasingly popular in education. Podcasts enable students and teachers to share information with anyone at anytime. An absent student can download the podcast of the recorded lesson. It can be a tool for teachers or administrators to communicate curriculum, assignments and other information with parents and the community. Teachers can record book talks, vocabulary or foreign language lessons, international pen pal letters (podcast pals!), music performance, interviews, debates. Reviews and ranking of 2007 World Cup team:
(1) Australia: More convincing winners than in 2003 and very clear in their own class . As in 2003, their dominance reduced the spectacle of the tournament, but it wasn't their fault that no-one could challenge them.It is very clear that the rest of the cricketing world must learn from their individual brilliance, mental strength and the resources that are put into the game in Australia.
(2) Sri Lanka: It is very clear that Sri Lanka is the second best side in the tournament, but didn't really compete with Australia, It can be the bad luck also that it started raining and it became dark when they were batting .
(3) New Zealand: The eternal bronze medalists- New Zealand always put together competitive sides that draw on team strengths.They looked promising for much of the tournament until the batting collapsed twice at the end.
(4) South Africa: You can say that the positives will be an improvement from 2003 and an ability to win most of the matches that counted. The negatives were centering on lack of bowling variety, especially spinners. According to the record 1999 still be remembered as the year South Africa was a dropped catch or a misheard run call away from the World Cup.
(5) England: Very clear 5th place, but when you start thinking that they are the one who started playing cricket first then you can say instead of going front they are going back.England were basically hampered by the inability of the top order to make runs quickly.
(6) West Indies: Started well, but it took the Super 8s to put West Indies group performance into context. They didn't play as a team, now starting to show worrying signs of becoming a more terminal decline.
(7) Bangladesh: They were the worst team in 2003, now from 14th to 7th place improvement is huge, Also if you look at Sri Lanka in 1992 and 1996, and Bangladesh continue improving at this rate, they may be a good early outside bet for 2011.
(8) Ireland: Simply wow you can say for them. Enthusiasm was everything for them, and although the wheels came off a few times at the end, they showed they could compete with, and sometimes beat, the best. It feels like son is defeating in the game to father the moment he learned how to play.
(9) India: They lost two games out of three in this group, and no-one can argue that they deserved to progress.
(10) Pakistan: The defining incident of the tournament,sadly linked to Bob Woolmer's murder, troubled preparation turned into a nightmare tournament, but they can't use the green Sabina Park wicket against Ireland as an excuse -in simple word they deserved their early exit.
(11) Kenya: Instead of going forward they went backward since 2003, but potential remains, as their efficient dispatching of Canada showed.
(12) Zimbabwe: "Cricketing realities in the tragic country"Being reasonably competitive against the West Indies was hardly a commendation.
(13) Netherlands: Heavy defeats against South Africa , but whacked the Scots. Remember the tournament most for the simple sum that six times six equals thirty-six.
(14) Canada: Gave England a few brief scares, but lost heavily against Kenya, which was a big disappointment for them. Although best against the Kiwis.
(15) Scotland: There must be something about Scotland and World Cups. It was thrashed by South Africa and Australia, also thrashed by the Dutch.
(16) Bermuda: you can say the worst side at the World Cup. But in their side, Dwayne Leverock, meant that they were happy to stay for 3 games.

World Cup 2007 Final: Australia v Sri Lanka at Bridgetown
After 46 days and 50 matches, nine nations, so many island transfers, hitches and glitches the day of the ninth World Cup final has dawned.Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Unfortunately match delayed by rain. I will be back with details later on.

Australia won by 53 runs. Man-of-the-Match award went to Adam Gilchrist. Sri Lanka gave them a game but on the day came up just short.

Finally World Cup 2007 Final is over.Congratulations to Australia who were the best team from the first match and maintained their high standard throughout.Australia have won the World Cup for the third time in a row. Now Question is that will they make it four in four in Asia in 2011? Who knows what can happen in future, It might can rain whole day. I am happy for Aus but sad for Sri Lanka at least they should have got to play 50 Over game, but this rain ruined everything for them.

Australia bulldoze into the final.This time no dramatic Cricket World Cup exit for South Africa - just a big defeat by a professional Australian side that never let South Africa into the game. Australia won by 7 wickets (with 111 balls remaining) .Man-of-the-Match award went to Glenn McGrath.
South Africa 149 all out (43.5 ov)
Australia 153/3 (31.3 ov)

The simplest way to say is that South Africa tried to take the game to the Australians, lost their entire top order mostly to some ill-judged shots, and the game was basically over. Australia took 31.3 overs and lost 3 wickets to overall South Africa's score, which represents a severe thrashing in anyone's books.
In basic terms, South Africa's 2007 World Cup outcome is the same as 1992 and 1999, beaten semi-finalists. Anyway, this time they simply weren't good enough, and no-one can blame rain, bad luck, RIchie Benaud or anything outside the team.
For the Australia, I will stick to the main facts...into their 4th successive World Cup final, an opportunity to be the first side to win 3 in a row, 27th game without defeat in World Cups, 21st win in a row at World Cups. The only other fact I will add is that Sri Lanka were the last side to beat them in a knock-out match to win the 1996 Cup..... I don't have a choice to change that but still want some other team to win world cup this time in other word someone please stop them.

Sri Lanka won by 81 runs. Mahela Jayawardene, the Man of the Match.
So Sri Lanka enter their second World Cup final (after the memorable one in 1996). New Zealand fail to cross the semi-final stage for the fifth time in World Cups but when they reflect on today they will look back at a truly outstanding knock by Mahela Jayawardene, probably the defining innings of the tournament.

Once Sri Lanka had made 289, New Zealand didn't have much of a chance, especially with the pitch taking turn and Sri Lanka posessing a varied attack. Muralitharan teased and tormented with 4 for 31 while Malinga and Vaas turned in excellent support acts. New Zealand had a chance at 100 for 2 but a collapse of sorts left them high and dry.

It all started like this we went to sam's club and one of there staff who was working on the counter shaw my last name in membership card and she asked me where are you from then she asked if you are not sikh and you are not from Panjab then how come your last name is Singh? Chris Gayle got the West Indies innings off to start, and despite some useful contributions down the order, the total of exactly 300 was a bit less than initially threatened. England had to bat aggressively for a change, and managed to keep up throughout although they always seemed to lose wickets at the last time. Eventually the tail held their nerve, and England ended up on the right side of a thriller. Lara said he was all about entertainment, and this match fitted that bill. Australia as usual win again by 215 runs. Australian fielders huddle together in celebration. This is their 21st consecutive win in World Cups. Massive. This is New Zealand's biggest defeat in ODIs. New Zealand looked they were trying to keep up with the run rate, but it doesn't help when you lose wickets all the time. Fulton got 62, but the final total of 133 was way, way short.

Matthew Hayden is Man-of the-match.His third century of the World Cup gave Australia the headstart that demoralised the Kiwis. Maybe he'll fail when it really matters in the knockouts? Don't count on it.

What happened today: Today in West Indies Vs Bangladesh match, Windies seal first Super Eights win by 99-run victory over Bangladesh.The West Indies batting seemed to be sleepwalking in their match against Bangladesh and were in some trouble at 55/3 after 21 overs. But some good batting from Sarwan and a cameo from Lara saw them to 230. Once Bangladesh were 52/6 in reply it was all over, although they scraped together 131 in the end.

It can also be said that they were the second-best Asian side in the tournament, they carried that mantle with a respectable amount of professionalism and that they showed once and for all that they are minnows no more. West Indies have one game left, against another side already knocked out, but they have far less to take from a tournament billed as the greatest thing to happen to West Indian cricket than Bangladesh. It's been that kind of World Cup for them.

Yesterday on 04/18/07 Sri Lanka were in a massive hurry against Ireland, finishing them off before lunch. It was over even earlier then Australia and Ireland match. At least last time they went till 30 overs but yesterday they were all out in 27.4 over only. Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets.

South Africa crush England

South Africa defeated England by 9 wickets with 184 balls remaining. England were all out for 154 due to fine bowling display by Andrew Hall. South Africa completed the formalities in 19.2 overs largely due to explosive batting by captain Graeme Smith 89 runs in 58 balls.

This was on sided affair as England gave this game without a fight. England batting looked totally pathetic. England captain Vaughan needs to step down and play county cricket to regain his confidence as he has struggled in entire tournament and has always created pressure on middle order by getting out early every time. They are missing Mark Threscothick as opener. Flintoff has also struggled with bat.

South Africa displayed fine bowling and batting performance and has put one feet in the semi-final. Today's splendid win must have boosted their morale after loosing to minnow Bangladesh.

on the side note:
I think there are four test playing countries in the world who needs serious work to be competitive. The teams are:

India: India were knocked out of world cup after being thrased by Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. All the big shots like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Ganguly, Yuvraj failed in both matches. It is high time for India to get fresh blood and look at its domestic cricket academy to produce quality players.
Pakistan: Pakistan cricket hit rock bottom after being defeated by Ireland. The Captain resigned and coach died. The vice-captain declined to become captain. It is currently in total mess and serious work is needed to bring it back to competitive level.
West Indies: They have performed badly in super eight loosing matches to Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand.
England: It will be very tough for England's captain Vaughan to keep his job after dubious world cup performance. They have only defeated one test playing country Bangladesh and struggled a lot to do that. They have been thrashed by New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

Australia is just too good for any team. Not one team has bothered them in all the tournament. You are going to need a lot to beat this team, A-game, B-game, call if what you will. Dismissed Sri Lanka cheaply, knocked off the runs without breaking a sweat, and I want to see what team beats Australia.
Ricky Ponting (66 not out) and Andrew Symonds (unbeaten on 63) help Australia ease to victory with 44 balls to spare and keep up their 100 percent record in this World Cup.

Sri Lanka were earlier dismissed for 226 in their final over after failing to take advantage of a good start against the defending champions.

Ireland Vs Bangladesh

The Super Eights clash against Bangladesh was always going to be Ireland's best chance of getting on the scoreboard and they grabbed the points with a superb allround display at Barbados. They posted a competitive 243 for 7 through a well-planned innings and then dismissed Bangladesh for 169 to clinch victory by 74 runs.

Cheers, whoops, tears, bugles, drums, all out in appreciation of a good day's cricket. Johnston, stump in hand, leads his band of merry men off the field, acknowledging the supportive crowd. Bashar lopes off, head down. Bangladesh have beaten India and South Africa, but came up short against Ireland. Some sloppy cricket from them.

Ireland were lead by their captain from the toss, and thanks to Porterfield, Kevin O'Brien and Johnston himself, put up a very good total. Their bowlers backed up the batting effort, the fielding was enthusiastic, the body language better than their opponents. This win will do them plenty of good. The Irish supporters out here should be proud of their side. Irish eyes are smiling, truly.

New Zealand Vs South Africa

New Zealand 196/5 (48.2 ov)New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 10 balls remaining).
New Zealand beat South Africa by five wickets to seal their place in the crucial round coming up. They won the toss, and having come unstuck themselves batting first in St George's against Sri Lanka, opted to field first. It paid off on a difficult batting strip, as Bond and Franklin wasted little time with the new ball. McMillan stayed there til the end, unbeaten on 38 to add to his three key wickets. Gibbs and Prince added 76 in 17 overs, but it was the gamble of bringing on McMillan that hammered in South Africa's fate. Chasing 194, New Zealand were sluggish, but Fleming played a dour captain's innings and then that man Styris added another World Cup fifty.

McMillan is the Man of the Match. He's a happy bloke. Beaming, he says he's grateful to just be here and is glad New Zealand bounced back from the loss to Sri Lanka. Loved each of his three wickets, and says chasing 194 was tricky.

What's on the menu tomorrow?: The most ironical match of the tournament takes place - it was meant to be an India-Pakistan showcase on a weekend day, but instead it is...Ireland versus Bangladesh. It could be an entertaining game between two sided who play with enjoyment and enthusiasm. Bangladesh will be favorites, but the fast men of Ireland may fancy the conditions in Barbados, and could make it a competitive game.
