At the end of the first day India 24/1 v England 221 all out

Indian bowlers raised this time to show what India can do with bowling unlike last match..... our three pacers took 3 wickets each and Harbhajan took one wicket.

But still i amnt convinced about the decision of taking Harbhajan into the team, first of all this pitch isn't supporting spin at all, he isnt a form and we have yuvaraj if we need a spin bowler. Instead of Harbhajan we could have taken one more batsman and strengthen our batting order.

I wish you all the best for the Indian team we got great start though we messed up with Broad, still we can win this match....so wish you all the best... And i am expecting sachins 100 centuary in this test match :)

BEFORE departing for India, I had friends and family passing on travel tips, advice and personal experiences. Some of it good, and some of it worrying. As this was my first trip overseas, I needed to take it all in. But with any challenge in life, I like to have an open heart, clear head and positive attitude. This was not just a holiday abroad, this was a job and nobody could prepare me to become a cricket-loving, cheerleading, IPL girl but me!

Already three weeks have passed and in that time I cannot believe how a group of normal girls can become instant celebrities! Each team of ten girls has a manager and we all receive strict instructions from them about safety, behaviour and reputation, as it seems girls from previous years did not heed the rule book!

For example, if people ask why we are in their country, we have to say that we are friends on holiday. The majority of Indians are cricket crazy, glued to their televisions, reading the papers, supporting their teams. So as the tournament kicked off, it became pretty obvious we were not telling the truth!

On our days off, we are free to explore and take in what India has to offer but its not always easy. You can just imagine, a group of fit, easy on the eye, western ladies cruising the congested busy streets…

To the citizens, we are practically like walking porn! All eyes are on you all the time; it is complete voyeurism. The women double take, see you and then pretend you do not exist. The men see your face, then your boobs, your butt, and then your boobs again! As we walk, all you hear is “IPL, IPL!” with a little head jingle!

Usually only after day matches there is an exclusive after party and at night is when it all happens. The music pumps, the drinks flow and the cricketers come and go. We mingle and associate with important people of the IPL wearing their finest and sexiest, sponsors of all sorts, media and fashion shows, even Indian MTV! But the real funhappens in the VIP rooms where the players and night owls can cause scandal! The few Indian players we have met, such as MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have been very polite and keep to themselves in the dark corners. Hotshots like Tendulkar with families at home are never present. The likes of Jonty Rhodes and Albie Morkel are notorious for having a good time with friends!

‘Ol Graeme Smith will flirt with anything while his girlfriend lurks behind him. The Aussies are fun but naughty, such as Aiden Blizzard and Dan Christian. By the end of a crazy evening, a certain someone had played kissing catchers with three girls known to me only, although he has his own girlfriend back home. He cooed to each girl, “Come home with me, I just want to cuddle!’
Oh, please! I have come to realise that cricketers are the most loose and mischievious sportsmen I have come across. Makes me wonder if I should worry about them more then the commoners on the street! I still have a long while here, so I shall keep my tip list in mind.

Tip number 1: ‘Beware of the cricketers!’

V V S Laxman battled severe back pain to single-handedly take India to a memorable victory over Australia with a gritty unbeaten 73 in a nail-biting first cricket Test on Tuesday in Mohali.

Laxman, who reserved his best for the Australians, played almost a lone hand in India's run chase of 216 as his experienced colleagues fell to poor shot selection and umpiring error as he guided India to one of its most memorable Test victories.

Sachin Tendulkar was the second highest Indian scorer with 38 while young Ishant Sharma contributed an invaluable 31 in the Test which went down the wire.

With the victory, India took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy with their seventh highest run chase in history.

England began their Champions Trophy campaign with a six-wicket triumph over Group B rivals Sri Lanka on Friday. Chasing Sri Lanka's 212 all out in 47.3 overs, England eased to 213 for four off 45 thanks to an unbeaten 62 in 83 balls from Eoin Morgan.

England slipped to 19 for two before Paul Collingwood launched a counter-attack, dominating a 63-run partnership with Owais Shah.Collingwood breezed to 46 off 51 balls with five fours and three sixes before chopping a delivery from fast bowler Lasith Malinga on to his stumps.
His dismissal brought Morgan to the crease and he and Shah combined for a 76-run stand off 94 balls.Shah was then caught by keeper Kumar Sangakkara off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan for a patient 44.

COMPETITIVE TOTAL
The left-handed Morgan went on to reach his half-century with his fifth boundary.
"We did not pick up wickets quickly enough and the Collingwood-Shah partnership was important to England," said Sri Lanka skipper Sangakkara.
"I thought Morgan understood his job very well and did the job required for his side. He played the anchor role that saw them through."
Earlier, half-centuries from Thilina Kandamby and Angelo Mathews helped Sri Lanka post a competitive total after slumping to 17 for four after being put in to bat.
Kandamby top-scored with 53 before being run out while Mathews chipped in with 52 as the pair combined for a sixth-wicket stand of 82.
Mathews was lucky on 51 when he appeared to have been run out after colliding with England seamer Graham Onions.
Although he was initially given out, Strauss called the batsman back.

Tillakeratne Dilshan and Ajantha Mendis led Sri Lanka to a 55-run win over hosts South Africa as the opening match of the Champions Trophy was decided by the Duckworth-Lewis scoring method on Tuesday.

Dilshan struck 106 off 92 balls as Sri Lanka amassed 319 for eight, their highest one-day score against South Africa. Spinner Mendis then claimed three for 30 as the hosts finished on 206 for seven from 37.4 overs after rain intervened.

The 24-year-old Mendis was playing against South Africa for the first time and frequently bamboozled the opposition batsmen in the Group B match.

Gautam Gambhir will miss the ongoing one-day tri-series

India's in-form opener Gautam Gambhir will miss the ongoing one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka with a groin injury, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) said on Thursday.

Left-handed Gambhir strained the muscle and will return home to rest for 10 days, the BCCI said in a statement.

Virat Kohli has been named as his replacement.

India open against New Zealand on Friday and play Sri Lanka the following day with the final slated for Sept. 14 in the short series -- their build up to the Champions Trophy in South Africa later this month.

India is already without explosive opener Virender Sehwag and bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan. Both are recovering after shoulder surgery and will be sidelined until after the Champions Trophy.

England's openers have barely picked up a bat since September, but Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook defied the pre-match predictions of being severely undercooked by guiding England to 63 without loss at lunch on the opening day in Chennai. It was slow going, but the main priority for the visitors was to avoid early damage and a wicketless first session will have given the dressing room a huge boost.

In the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks 15 days ago this series appeared unlikely to take place but at 9.00am Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kevin Pietersen appeared for a toss that signified something more important than a normal cricket match. However, as both captains said before the match, minds had begun to switch back into game-mode, and Pietersen was able to make the simple decision to bat on a flat Chennai pitch after he won the toss.

By the end of the first session it was easy to see why. Despite having only a little more than a week's notice for this match, the groundsman had put together a typical batting track. Harbhajan Singh was in the action by the ninth over and within the first hour Dhoni was down to one slip and a gully. During the series against Australia, catches at cover and midwicket produced wickets and Dhoni was clearly hoping for similar results.

However, Strauss and Cook showed impressive resilience. The opening overs against Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma were about judging where the off stump was and gauging any movement, of which there was little. Both bowlers maintained tight lines, but realised early on that it was going to be hard work.

The first boundary, a clip to fine leg by Strauss, came in the seventh over when Zaheer drifted too straight. Strauss and Cook got away with miscued pulls into the leg side as they struggled for their timing - a sign of their lack of practice - but were not overly troubled by pace and combated Harbhajan's early overs.

Cook produced the shot of the morning, a straight drive against Zaheer which comfortably made the boundary despite the outfield being slow due to the recent rain. If anyone knows how to perform without much preparation it's Cook: in 2006, he was thrown in for a Test debut in Nagpur, just two days after arriving from the Caribbean.

India managed to get the ball changed in the 18th over, and although the replacement did more the breakthrough didn't materialise. The most interesting bowling of the session came from Amit Mishra, the legspinner who claimed 5 for 71 on debut against Australia. His first over went for nine as Strauss swept him twice from a full length, but he teased the batsmen with his variations of flight.

Cook almost gave a catch to backward point when trying to cut but both openers survived their opening challenge against spin. There will be plenty more to come, but it was a better start than England could have imagined.
