The new update is only a new software update. It will include the newly announced cartridges as well as the Princess one from the last update if you did not update then.

This is not a software update it is just a cartridge update, those of us with the photo app will continue to have it. For those who don’t have it they are working on getting it fixed so that everyone can have it.

Note: If you have build 0155 when you start your update you will be updated to build 0159. If you have build 0158 when you start your update you will be updated to build 0160. Build 0160 allows those users who currently have the Photo App to keep the Photo App. Provo Craft is working to get the Photo App out to all users.

•Updated the help menus.
•The selection box is now hidden in preview mode.
•Shapes can now be partially off the mat and the Cricut App will still cut the part that is on the mat.
•The zoom and pan buttons can now be used to scroll through all lists.
•Cartridges can now be filtered by categories to show all cartridges or just the linked cartridges.
•Unlinked cartridges are now marked in red in the search results screen
•Cuts that are not welded are now cut in an order that will minimize the amount of time it takes to complete all the cuts

Some new fixes

•Fixed drawing issues that occur after relative/true-size mode change of glyphs that are not fully on the mat.
•Fixed an issue where an application failure didn't preserve the file that is open during the application failure.
•Screen saver no longer activates immediately after Cricut upgrade.
•Undo no longer switches back to layer 1.

Cricut Gypsy lace mats and Window cards

I have discovered making paper lace and windows cards and I'm addicted. The Gypsy makes it so easy to move, manipulate and weld designs. I now have a folder of pre-cut paper lace and window cards with no project in mind. But that's a good thing, because you shouldn't wait until you need to complete a project to try and become an expert. The Gypsy makes it fun to play with no agenda in mind...

I will say this much, if the Gypsy could do "fit text to path" like my Pazzles can I would be so excited.

But even though it doesn't I'm still having a lot more fun than I was having with just the Cricut "baby bug" alone.

I was going to sell my Don Juan cart until I found out it has window cards (or an aperature card) that allows you to weld words and objects inside the window with out losing the inside cuts. I was a little unhappy with my Gypsy when I tried this with other carts and it didn't work. I got the Don Juan cart as part of my Gypsy bundle I bought from HSN the day it debuted. When I first looked at the cart I didn't like most of the shapes and the font. I started playing around with the window cards and WHOOOPPPEEE! I can weld without losing the innards. I refused to link the cart to my Gypsy before that, but now I'm gonna keep it just for that. Now if Provocraft would make the able to do "Fit text to path" like my Pazzles can.

Pinwheel Card Or Envelope

I like this card, but I can't make it because I only have the baby Bug (the original Cricut. It cuts only 5.5 inches wide and this won't fit. But I have another idea. I'm going to make them but much smaller, say about 2 inches and use them as a tag for a package. I'll cut a small hole in one corner to thread some string or pretty cording to tie them to the package. Take a look at the video.

Beware of used Cricut cartridges!

It has come to light that there are several sellers on eBay selling "used" Cricut carts. People have debated all over the web whether selling "used" carts is against Provo Craft's rules.

If it is used the seller should:

1)CLEARLY STATE that it is used and
2)If it has already been linked to a Gypsy that should also be clearly disclosed.

A cart that has been linked to a Gypsy is not able to be used with another, as the serial number on it has been permanently linked to that device. No one will be able to link that cart to another Gypsy, but you can still use it without a Gypsy. Provo Craft has written a EULA (End User Licensing Agreement) that Gypsy users must agree to before their Gypsy will link the cart. It states that once you complete the linking, it is permanent and the cart will forever be tied to that Gypsy, (except if the Gypsy breaks and needs to be sent back to Provo Craft for repair). If that happens and you have sold your cart, then you are out of luck, because the linking will have been erased when the Gypsy was repaired.

A used cart is probably no big deal to someone who is never going to use a Gypsy, but one that was linked is severely limited, therefore lowering it's value. In spite of that, several of the used and linked carts are selling for roughly the same prices as new ones. That begs the question, "Why would anyone pay the same price for something with a lower perceived value?

Well apparently the public either doesn't care or doesn't know. If the auction doesn't state that it's NEW don't be afraid to ask the seller if it is. If it isn't in writing, you have no one but yourself to blame if you get a "linked" one. However, don't assume you are covered, since it has been debated whether it's against the rules to sell a "used" one.

Beware, it's one thing to not care, but don't be one of those who didn't KNOW!

Breakthrough In Scrapbooking: The Cricut Product Line

A few years ago, Provo Craft decided to really change the world of scrapbooking by releasing the Cricut product line. The Cricut machine is a cartridge-based electronic die-cutting machine. The Original Cricut Machine was released (also known as the Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter), with the ability to cut images onto paper using a 6 by 12- inch mat. The Cricut Machine is sold as a package with one cartridge (George and Basic Shapes), cutting blade, a cutting mat, and instruction manual. Several cartridges and accessories were released shortly after.

Cricut Expression Machine
Demand for the Original Cricut machine was overwhelming. Customers were asking for a machine to cut larger images and more functionality, and Provo Craft responded by introducing the Cricut Expression Machine. The Expression has several notable upgrades to the original machine: it is able to cut images up to 12 by 24 inches, has a large LCD screen that allows the user to see the next cut, an eight-way directional blade, and Fit-to-Page mode. Provo Craft also introduced more cartridges and accessories to go along with the Expression.

Create Machine
Many Cricut users have upgraded to the Expression from the Original Cricut Personal Cutter. However, scrapbookers were asking for a more portable machine to take along to crops and scrapbooking parties. The Expression is a larger machine, meant to be left at home at a permanent workspace. Once again, Provo Craft responded to demand by releasing the Cricut Create Machine. The Create Machine has the functionality of the Expression, but is a much smaller unit with greater portability. The Create can cut images up to 6 by 12- inches, similar to the Original machine.

Cartridges
Cricut machines require cartridges in order to cut images. All Cricut Cartridges are compatible in all three machines. Cricut is continuously releasing new cartridges to keep up with scrapbooking demand. There are now over 100 Cricut Cartridges available! The cartridges have unique themes, with 4 main types:

Fonts- these cartridges contain letters and numbers with varying styles. Some popular Font cartridges are: Plantin Schoolbook, Calligraphy, and Storybook. These cartridges come in a peach-colored binder with a detailed instruction manual and unique keypad that corresponds to the cartridge.

Shapes- these are the most popular type of Cricut Cartridges, among the favorites are: Stretch Your Imagination, Wild Card, and Celebrations. The Shapes cartridges come in a light blue-colored binder.
Classmate- these are catered towards educators- includes 50 States, Cursive 101, and My Community. The Classmate cartridge binders are green.

Solutions- these cartridges were released after the other styles. The Solutions cartridges are less expensive, and contain fewer images than the other cartridges listed above. Some popular Solutions cartridges include Stone Script, Home Accents, and Camp Out. These do not come in a typical storage binder, but do include instructions and a keypad.
Accessories

Cricut has introduced several accessory items to complement the Cricut machines’ capabilities. Some popular accessories include the Jukebox, Design Studio Software, adhesive vinyl, color inks, and stencil material. These all help scrapbookers to enhance their creativity and produce amazing projects.

A Glimpse Into the Future
Provo Craft has just announced the release of the Cricut Gypsy, which allows users to upload all of their cartridge content into one place. The Gypsy is a portable device with an interactive interface, similar to an Ipod. Users can create designs anywhere, and simply plug into a Cricut Machine to cut. This will be released just in time for the holidays.
