Blogging is a good thing for student because if properly managed, it benefits them in various ways as touching their academic life lest to say their social life. One of this benefits is that it develops your writing ability, helping you to express yourself better. You shouldn’t have problem as others with your project if you are blogger and the same time student.

However, there are some factors that could make blogging a bit strait for students. As they struggle to make success in their blogging career so do they also struggle to have good grades and make success in their academia (except they resort to a full – time blogger).

From my personal experience in blogging as a student, I’ve been able to gather some factors which could make blogging seems difficult for student. And below I’m going to be discussing with you some of these factors.

Reasons Why Blogging Can Be A Bit Strait For Students

LIMITED TIME

Though numerous, the most scarce resources ever in human life is TIME. There is a saying that “Time waits for no man”. Putting up a quality content to your blog cannot be achieved just by mere copy and paste of articles – wrong way, there is need for you to take quality of your time in making your content a great one that stands out.

Students could only which there’s a way of drawing back the time. But, that little hand of the clock that you see is not a respecter of man and does not wait for any man not even student. Students have limited time. As a student, you know, you’ll receive several lectures, involved in series of practical – if available, schedule your personal reading time, balance up your spiritual life and have a relaxation, you’ve only got little time to spent with your blog.

It do takes me approximately 40minutes of my time in sharing my articles on Facebook groups. Sharing to other social network sites shouldn’t take as much as that – depending on the number of networks you joined. But, putting all this time together amount to some seconds.

Engaging in the above activities sound simple to you, right? Maybe because it’s in writing. If you were involved in the above activities or have experienced this, you could testify that there is limited time to spent hours with your blog if you are to balance things up with academics too.
LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES

Not everyone of us born with a silver spoon. One of the reasons and the most common reason why people blog is for earnings. There are many bloggers if not to say all that blog for nothing other than money.

We sure know that you need to invest at least some tokens to your blog before you can start generating some cash from it. It isn’t a new song in my hearing that many students sponsored themselves in academics.

Sometimes, the money you have with you might insufficient for you to satisfy your academic needs; and alongside, some impromptu spending might just pop up and there you have your plan disrupt. Such kind of a blogger might be experiencing some setbacks when it comes to financial issues about blogging.
ADDICTION TO INTERNET

Except you want to become a full-time blogger, your academic performance will be of little or no worry to you. I need to stretch the fact that many students wants to graduate with good grades, we want to come out with something worthwhile, something honorable, that makes us stands out and differentiate us from others. If we must archive this, then we must answer the call to more seriousness.

When you are spending a lot of time on the internet sharing and researching, you keep enjoying it. You want to have a better interaction with your audience and with other bloggers too. Gradually, this habit is becoming part and par sue of you and before you know it, you are addicted to it. Such a student who is becoming more addict to the internet is surely walking his way to below par performance in academia.

CONCLUSION

The above reasons neither implies that students shouldn’t blog at all nor that student should stop blogging neither does it serve as a discouragement for students who wished to blog, but this are some factors that could make blogging a bit difficult for you.

You can make out success from both your academics and blogging, but one will be at the advantage of other. Knowing the factors which affect you as a student blogger makes it easy in coordinating the available resources to improve yourself, both academically and as a blogger.

A custom favicon is very important in other to perfect the professional looks of your blog. The little small image in the address bar of your browser before the page title when you visit a site is the Favicon of that site, that is the Favourite Icon of that site/blog. By giving your blog a unique favicon, it differentiate your blog from other people’s blog when bookmarked or visited.

If a new user visit a website that have the image as its favicon, he would not think twice before he would have known that it’s Facebook. The question should be How easy? It shows that having your own unique favicon create your blog image in the memory of your visitors. You see, it's worth having one.

How to Add/Change Blogger Blog Favicon From Layout

The first step you need to take is to get a customized favicon that suite your blog. Visit Favicon.cc to create/download one. You can also search for other sites that let you create or download a custom favicon using Google
Download the favicon to your computer. The favicon must be in .ico format and its resolution must be 16 x 16 pixels. You should keep that in mind when creating your favicon.
Go to your blog dashboard and click on Layout from the left pane.
The list of gadgets present in your blog layout and their arrangement will be displayed. The first gadget on the list is the favicon. Another window will be opened when you click on the edit link.
Click on the browse button to locate your downloaded favicon. Select it and click on upload.

You have successfully add/change the favicon of your blogger blog. You don’t expect your favicon to take effect immediately, right? Yeah, its gonna take like 24 – 48hrs before it start showing up.

How to Add/Change Blogger Blog Favicon From Template

If your are using a third party template – of which most bloggers does, the designer will surely make a room for favicon in the template. To add/change your favicon from your template;

Get the url of your preferred favicon. You can download and upload it to a file sharing site like Picasa, Photo Bucket, etc. and copy the url.
Go to your blog dashboard and click on the Template link.
Backup your Template first – never doubt this action before making any changes to your template, its very important.

Click on the Edit Html link – beside the customize link in the template preview.
In the template, search for “FAVICON”. Use “Ctrl + F” for quick search.
You should see something of this sort “YOUR_FAVICON_URL” replace the text with your favicon url and save the template.

Why do I have to Backup my Blogger Blog Template?

Since you have the full control of how your blog looks, you can easily make some changes to your blog layout from your template. In the process of editing your template, a mistake might be made. If you’ve backup your blog template, you will be able to restore your blog’s layout to its previous state if any problem arises.

Imagine my situation, what if I have make a backup of my blog template in the first place, what do you thing would have happened? I would have easily restore it back.

How to Backup your Blogger Blog Template.

Without wasting much of our time, knowing that before making any changes to your template you need to back it up, we are going to be discussing how to backup our blogger template.

I could imagine a sound of clicks, you should be in your blog homepage now, right? Ok. Click on the name of the blog you wish to backup.
In your blog dashboard in the left pane, click on the Template link.
Look to the top right corner of the page and click on Backup/Restore button.
A java script window will pop up showing an upload box. Click on “Download Full Template”. The full template of your blog will be downloaded to your computer in .xml format i.e template – 105623475869 where the number represent your blog ID.

Kindly keep this downloaded template in a safe place on your computer.

How to Restore/Change your Blogger Blog Template.

If anything goes wrong when you are editing your template and you’ve back it up already, all you have to do is to restore your blog layout from the backup.

Also, there are times when the need to change your blog template to a better one arises, once you have the downloaded copy of the new template, you can easily upload it for application to your blog in short time.

To restore your blogger blog template or change it to a new one, you just have to follow the instructions below;

Go to your blog homepage and click on the blog you wish to restore/change its template.
Click on the Template link and select Backup/Restore in the top right corner of the page.
In the popped up java script window, click on the browse button and locate the template where you saved it on your computer. It should be in .xml format.
Select the file and click upload.

Now you’ve successfully change/restore your blogger blog template IF you did not receive any error notification.

In case you receive any error message when you want to change your template, it might be that the template is not correctly parsed or formatted. What you have to do is to correct the errors if possible. Otherwise, look out for another awesome template.

Note: Most templates are uploaded online in either .zip format or .rar format. In such case, you will need Blueftp or Winzip for the extraction if you are using mobile phone and WinRAR or Winzip if your are using pc for extraction.

Internet downloading manager acronym IDM is known for its speed in downloading files. This download manager have a lot of features integrated in it to perform its function for users satisfaction.

One of the features is its ability to divide the download connection to several channel which makes it achieve its goal of speed in downloading files. Now I want to let you know how to make use of this segment downloading feature of IDM to even experience a faster download.

Initially, when you launch your IDM, there are 16 channels of connection but only 8 of the channels are in use by default setting. So, how do you activate the remaining 8, knowing that activating these channels increase the speed of your download?

How to Burn .Iso Files to a DVD.

Many software are made available today in their image form i.e .iso format for easy distribution. To be able to use this software, there is need for it to be burn to a disk – either a pen drive or a disc. Otherwise use a third party program to do such installation.

There are so many software out there that you can use in burning image files to disk. However and without much ado, we shall be working on ImgBurn Software for the purpose of this tutorial which is one of the free software that you can use for burning.

The first step is to get your .iso file and a new re-writable dvd reday (or unused re-writable dvd). After that, download ImgBurn Software.

Now follow the below steps to complete the tutorial;

Open your drive and insert the re-writable dvd disc. Exit the autoplay option when it pops up.
Run ImgBurn from your desktop and wait for it to detect your disc.
In the option menu, click on Write image file to disc. Now click on the browse file icon and locate the .iso file where you saved it.

In the first column by the left, look down to the last line where there are two boxes. Mark the Verify box.
Move to the right column at the bottom where you will see the settings. Here you can set the number of copies and the writing speed. Leave the number of copies as it is otherwise you want to burn more than a copy.
Change the writing speed to your desire. But for accurate result, change it to a lower speed. Some disc does not support a writing speed below 3.0. In this case, if you select 2.0 as your writing speed, it will be change to 3.0 automatically or as specified by the disc.

After setting the writing speed and the number of copies, then click on the write button. Wait for the operation to be initiated and watch it progressing……. (Go and sip in coffee, your success is awaiting you ).
It will get to a certain point where your disc tray is been ejected. For laptop users, you might get an error message here due to the fact that your tray cannot be automatically closed by the system unlike the Desktop users. Don’t panic, just close the tray manually and…the operation continues.
Wait for the operation to be completed and then your disc will be eject automatically.

Congrats! Jump out to your room and sip in another cup of juice .

You’ve just burn an image file to a disc.

You can check if it works fine by inserting the disc into your system then follow the autorun instruction otherwise double click on the disc. Whichever the case, it’s up to you.

How to Format/Restore your Computer to Its Factory within Seconds!

Every one of us each have our purpose for formatting or reformatting our computer system. It might be for the reason of virus or software error. It might even be for fun (irony).

We just have one or more reasons before we conclude to formatting or reformatting our computer. There are two method of doing this;

Advanced system recovery.
Installing New OS.

I want to discuss the advanced system recovery with you in this article. I call it Advanced system recovery because it’s different from Microsoft system restore.

PS: Formatting your system wipe away all files and partition on the hard drive including your Operating System (OS). It is imperative for you after formatting to install an OS. Otherwise, your system won’t have any environment to boot.

For this reason I didn’t include the third method of formatting system though it is quite similar to installing new OS. In a situation where you want to keep the old OS, then this advanced system recovery is highly recommended for you because it restore your computer to its factory.

PSS: Before you proceed to formatting your system, backup all necessary document to an external storage. And make sure you computer system is plugged to a source.

After you’ve backup your files, restart your computer.
Immediately the computer start, press the F11 key to boot into the system recovery window (you might need to press more than once and you might also need to press the function key (fn) along with the F11 key before you can get any response. All depend on your computer).
In the system recovery window, there are two restore there. The Microsoft system restore which restore your computer to a previous point in the past and System recovery which restore your computer to its factory.
Click on the System recovery and follow the instruction in the next window, either you back up your files or you continue without backing up (If you have do backup already or you don’t want to back up at all).

Click on next and watch your system being restored. (Your system might require for disc. Do you still remember where you keep the disc that came with your computer when you bought it? Bring it out and insert it into your computer. Restoration continues).

The remaining steps are left for you to do. It is all about your information (including personal) to register your new computer. (New indeed except for that scratched and bleached case *winks*).

This is just a simple way of formatting/restoring your computer to its factory. This method is tested on HP Laptops and therefore the function key might be different depending on your product.

There are some files and folders that are personal to you. You don’t want them to be visible to other parties. Each and everyone of us have is own reason for hiding files. Whatever the reason maybe, we just want to hide our files, simple!

Many software are available in the market that you can use to hide your files. While some of this software are free, some are to be paid for. However, we can still hide our files without the use of software, and that is what we want to discuss now!

How to hide files and folder without software

Select the folder(s) or the file(s); Hold down the CTRL key while selecting the folders and files. Otherwise, if the folders and files are in a chronological array, then you click on the first file while holding the SHIFT key then click on the last file.
Right click on the selected files and click on properties.
At the bottom of the window that opens to you, mark the hidden box and then click on Apply.

By now, your folders and files should be hidden!

Easy Method to Create and Format Hard Drive Partition without any Software.

Let’s say you partitioned a room, what does it mean? It means you separate one part of the room from another by a means of a wall or walls. You just created another room(s) from one large room, resulting in more than one room after being partitioned.

Now, if I should ask what partition means, every one of you will have a good point to contribute.

What is Hard Disk Partitioning?

From the above illustration, you can simply say that Hard Disk Partitioning is the act of dividing a Hard Disk into multiple logical storage units referred to as Partition. It means to treat one physical disk as if it were multiple disks, so that different each disk can serve different purpose.

Well, at first, Partitioning doesn’t sound interesting to me, you know, just say Partition and I’m off to something else. In fact, the more I know about partition, the more it get complex and the more I get pissed off, not until I know its importance.

Importance of Partitioning

How safe it is, according to the saying, if you “…put all your eggs into a basket”? An accident might just occur and…the rest is to feel sorry looking at all the eggs in a trash can. You, all eggs couldn’t have be crushed like if not all is in the same basket. Now you should be getting my point.

The same thing goes to your hard drive. If you think you hard drive is durable, then you don’t know how your hard drive works. It might just corrupt without giving you leave-on-notice.

However, you can reduce the risk of data loss by partitioning your computer’s hard drive. You can turn your computer to a more secured environment for your most important files and folder with a combination between partitioning your computer and syncing your files through an online storage service.

The main advantage is that you can access each partition as a separate hard drive on your computer. You can also install different Operating System on each each partition.

It seems I’m talking too much? Alright, let’s get down to business.

How to partition your hard drive

See, there a various software on the market that you can use to partition your hard drive, but in this tutorial, we are using no software other than the Windows built – in Disk Management.

The first step is to open the Disk Management window from your control panel (Quick access, Press Windows key + X and select Disk Management from the listed menus).

A new window listing all available partition will be opened to you. Right click on the largest partition and select Shrink Volume. The available space in your hard drive will determine how many more partitions you can make from it. It implies that a low free space will have few or no partition to make from it at all.

In the Shrink Volume window, enter the amount of space to be shrink in MB, at least 20gb. Then, click on the shrink button. A new unallocated space will be created.
Right click on the Unallocated space and click on New Volume. In the New Simple Volume wizard, enter the size of the partition you wanted to create in MB (at least 20gb). Then Next the window.
In the following windows, you can alter the drive letter, its format and its name to your own suit. Better leave the format as it is. To change the name of the partition, replace the NEW VOLUME text with your desired name, then click on next afterward, click on Finish.

Your newly created Partition should appear in the list of the available partition. After the Partition is auto formatted, it’s now ready for use.

You can use it as a backup drive, or install another operating system on it. If you would install another operating system on the partition, then 20gb will be too small for you. 40gb or more is advisable.

An Ad Hoc network is a temporary connection between computers and devices used for a special purpose such as sharing of documents with other computer.

It can also be used to temporarily share internet connection with other people on your ad hoc network.

Before you can be successful with this tutorial, you must have a wireless network adapter installed on your computer to set up or join an ad hoc network.

Let’s get down to business without wasting much of your time. The below steps will help you to create an ad hoc network on your windows 7. (Well, I don’t think this feature is supported by windows 7 starter).

From the start menu, go to control panel and click on Network and Internet.
Under the Network and sharing center, click on View network status and tasks.
Click on Set up a new connection or network. From the option listed, select Set up a wireless ad hoc network.

Follow the wizard’s instruction.

In the second step of the wizard’s instruction, enter your preferable network name in the first box, leave the second box as it is and input your password in the third box. Mark the two boxes and then click next.

Your Wi Fi Hotspot should be set by now. You can see it in the taskbar at the bottom right corner of your windows.

NOTE: Make sure you put on your wireless network by pressing the F12 key. (It varies with computers).

Transferring files via torrent is much faster than downloading the file from a single host. The reason being that the demand or bandwidth is distributed evenly amongst many different users.

Visit this site zbigz (zbigz is an online bit torrent client. They allows you to stream media files directly to your computer).

The site will download the file to their server and then allow you to download it using your IDM straight to your computer.

Note: The site store the cache for a week before they now delete it from their server.

There are some other sites that render the same service as that of zbigz. Some are; Boxopus, Torrent Handler, Put.io, Furk, and so on. Just insert your torrent link and click on “Go”.

The picture you see when you launch your Opera Mini browser during it's loading time and before the homepage is displayed is what is called "the splash screen" of the browser.

This is an interesting tutorial that we are going to be discussing. However, to find this tutorial simple and easy, you must have the knowledge of how to edit some basic features of the Opera Mini Browser.

I believe by now you should have at least know how to edit the basic features of Opera Mini Browser. Otherwise, take time to practicalize the above tutorial.

The following will be required for this tutorial:

An image in .png format and relatively with low size. The resolution of this image must fit with mobile screen resolution i.e 128 x 160 or 176 x 220 or 240 x 320 and so on.
Class editor
Calc4me
Hex editor
Blueftp

Have gotten all these things ready? Then let’s proceed to the business of the day.

Extract the Opmin4.2Labs with Blueftp into a new folder. In case you don’t know how to extract file with Blueftp, you can acquire the idea here; HOW TO EXTRACT FILES USING BLUEFTP.

Have you extracted the file? Ok. Open your class editor, locate the picture you wish to use and open the picture, press * to highlight the content until the end you can press key 7 and input 999999 and then press the # key to go to the last part.

Write down the size of the picture. It is shown at the bottom of the screen highlighted in red colour. Press key 5 and then click on copy to copy the content.

NOTE: Don’t exit your class editor until you’re done with this process.

Now, go to the folder where you extracted the opera mini and locate the v or v.class file from the contents. Open the file and search for PNG. To quickly complete the search, press key 9 and enter into the textbox PNG. Press ok and then press # key and key 4.

Starting from the ‘PNG’, carefully highlight the content until the size of the highlighted contents become 12652 bytes. Press key 5 and click on INSERT from the listed icons. press the left soft key and click on save.

Take a deep breath and relax. We’ve get to the difficult part of the tutorial. Not that difficult, it just require extra + ordinary care.

Remember you copy down the size of the picture some minutes ago? It’s time to use the value. Open your Calc4me and press the DOWN navigation key twice, input the value you wrote down then press and hold the # key.

Some value will pop up to the screen – the hex value of the picture, just copy down the value and exit the calc4me. Open your Hex editor and paste the value you copied. Click on execute to get your result.

Write down the value on a sheet of paper and exit the hex editor. Note: each hex code must not be greater than 4, the total number of hex value should be 14. Open your class editor and again open the v file. Press 0 key then 9 key, input 27 and press ok then press the # key.

You will some values which correspond with the values you copied down. Start replacing the value with the new one you just generated. Press the left soft key and click on save. Exit the class editor, pack your file with the Blueftp and test your handy work.

You’ve just change the splash screen of the opera mini.

Recover your Permanently deleted Files

Did you lost your important file(s)? Perhaps you mistakenly delete the file and now you want it back. There might even be some occasions where you were sanitizing your computer and unknowingly you deleted that file. To show your seriousness, you even go to the recycle bin folder to delete the file from there…

But now, you want the file back because you can’t just do without it. “What will I do, How would I see the file again?” becomes the question of the day. You can’t just stop imagining you shouldn’t have delete the file. You have nothing to worry about because you can still recover that precious file of yours. And in this tutorial, am gonna show you how, but let me briefly reveal a secret to you.

When you delete a file from any where on you hard drive, either unknowingly or intentionally , whichever way you delete the file. Listen, though the file is deleted and will not be available for you again (at least for that period), the storage location of that file will still be present on your hard drive until it is overwritten by another file.

So, if you delete a file from your hard drive, even though it cannot be found in the recycle bin again, you can still recover the file provided that the storage location of the file has no been overwritten by another file. If you wish to recover a permanently deleted file at its best, then do it when you are yet to add many new files to your computer…

How to recover permanently deleted files.

Our discussion today is gonna be on how to recover such deleted file. To say, do a search on Google.com and you will notice that there are a lot of File Recovery Program. But, of all, I prefer to use Recuva a product of PiriForm to the remaining program.

Download Recuva and install it on your computer system. Launch the program and give it the required permission. Next the first window that appear to you.
In the Recuva Wizard window, select the type of file you want to recover i.e picture, video, music, e.t.c. and click on Next. The next window will let you select the location where you’ve deleted the file. If you know the specific location, then you can choose it from the listed of options. Otherwise, leave the selection as it is.
Finally, first do the scanning without marking the deep scan box. If you can’t find your file by doing that, then mark the deep scan button. However, depending on how large your hard drive is, the deep scan take some hours to complete the scanning – however, you get the best result after successful scanning.
After the scanning is completed, all the files you’ve deleted on you hard drive will be listed. Careful search the file you wish to recover and mark its box. Then click on recover on the right bottom corner of the window.
Select the location to recover your file to and voila! Your file is back.

Ps: If the storage location of the file has been overwritten, you would not be able to recover you file again. You will notice this if the color of the button under the State tab of the recovery window is red.

How to Install .Net Framework 3.5 online

In the previous week, we discussed on how to install .Net Framework 3.5 on your system in offline mode. I believed you were able to install yours. Incase you missed the post, see the below link. Maybe you don’t have an access to an installation media and therefore cannot install the platform offline, that shouldn’t be a problem because you can also install it online.

I know, some of us, it is either somebody help us to install the operating system or our computer did not come with an installation disc. However, that should be a barrier for you not install your awesome apps that requires this feature.

The only alternative you got is to download and install the features online either by visiting Microsoft download page or through the control panel.

As I have said earlier on, that there are two ways you can use to install .NET Framework online – from Control Panel and Microsoft download page. Now we are going to be discussing each method below.

How to Install from Control Panel.

To install the .NET Framework online from Control Panel;

Open your control panel (for quick access, press the windows logo key and X, then select Control panel from the list). Click on the Programs tab.

After clicking the Program tab, you will see another tab named Program Features with links listed under it. From those links, click on Turn Windows features on or off.
A new window with some listed functions will be opened. Some are marked while some are not. Those functions that are marked are activated already otherwise inactivated.
The first list is the .NET Framework 3.5. If its box is marked, then its activated already. Otherwise, mark the box. Make sure you are already connected to the internet.
In the following window, click on Download and Install this feature. Then wait for the download to complete. The download min/hr. depends on your internet connection. Therefore, a strong internet connection is recommended for faster download speed.
The Framework will now be downloaded and installed automatically on your computer.

Method 2:

To install from Microsoft download page

To install the framework from Microsoft download page;

Launch Internet Explorer browser from the taskbar. Then click on this link Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 or http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21
Choose the appropriate language and click on the download button.
In the next window, click on “No, Thanks and Continue”. If you wish, you can click yes. That choice is left for you to make.
After downloading the .NET framework setup file, run as administrator and follow the wizard’s instruction.

Now you should be able to get over the stubborn feature that is not allowing that your awesome apps to get on your system.

How to Install Windows 8 without a disk or flash drive.

Microsoft has just make the distribution of their software much more easier and widely distributed by making it available on the internet in a downloadable format (.iso or .img) for a computer user without no delay.

You can now get a copy of windows 8 at an affordable price while sitting down on your chair and just with several clicks by downloading it from the designated site once you fulfill the financial requirement.

Not only that, without much stress of looking for a disk or drive to burn the image to, you can install the OS on your computer straight away with the help of a software called Daemon Tool Lite.

Of all the Image mounting software available on the market, I preferred Daemon Tool Lite to others for this tutorial not only because of its user friendly interface, it’s also easy to use, not too technical.

Download Daemon Tool Lite. software. You can choose to get the free version or go for the pro version if you like it. The choice is yours to make.

Let’s set the ball rolling;

Get a copy of the image file of the windows 8 (.iso or .img) and make sure Daemon Tool Lite is installed on your computer already.
Launch the Daemon Tool Lite. From the listed option, click on the first button by the left to add your image file.

Once you’ve add your image file, it will appear in the image catalog. Look at number 2 in the screenshot above. Click on the image file under the image catalog and Mount button, the third button to the left as in the screenshot above.
After you’ve mounted the image, the auto play notification will appear. Don’t run the set up option from the auto play window, instead, go to Computer, open the mounted drive to view the files in it.
Then, open the sources folder and lookout for setup file. Now run the file and follow the instructions as directed by the wizard to successfully install the operating system.

Note: Your computer must be plugged to a power supply so as to risk data loss. Also, you cannot alter your drive i.e format or delete your drive during installation because your are installing in from already installed environment.

This tutorial is associated not only with windows 8 only, but with other operating system and applications too. Inasmuch as possible you can get its image files.

Use your VLC Player as an Audio and Video Converter!

VLC media is a free and open source cross platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols.

Apart from its simple, fast and powerful streaming features, it can also be used as an Audio and Video Converter.

How to use it to Convert?

By following the instructions below, you will be able to successfully convert Audio and Video files.

Click media at the top left corner and select “Convert / Save” option, or you can press Ctrl + R.
Use the add button to select the file you want to convert.
Now, Click on Convert / Save.
In the Convert window under the destination file tab, select the destination of the file you are converting and give it your desired name. Make sure it’s a location you can easily access.
In the Profile tab, select the format you want to convert your file to, then click on start.

When the conversion starts, it will seems as if you were playing the file itself. Just wait till the converting of the file ends. then go to the location where you selected in the conversion windows to retrieve your file.

You can’t find the Hibernate function in Windows 8?

Sometimes, when you take a look at some windows 8 features, you might be quick to conclude on reverting to your previous OS. If your system is built –in with windows 8, then you might be thinking of installing another OS.

When I upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Enterprise, I discovered a lapse in the window. The only option I’ve got is to do system factory restore, you know, F11 or F12, I’m back to Windows 7. Each time I found a solution to fill this gap, I will re – install windows 8 again. On and off it continues like this for about 6 times, hoping to get a perfect windows 8 system which I now have.

Believe you, me, one of the reason that was making me switch from OS to OS is unavailability of the Hibernate button in Windows 8 – I thought the wrong way though, it was only hidden.

There are many features on the previous version of Microsoft windows that were hidden in the now Windows 8. Not until when I want to optimize my battery life by altering some functions in the energy plan so as to save energy did I discovered that the Hibernate function is on Windows 8, It’s just not pre – activated.

Importance of hibernating your Computer

If you are not gonna use your computer for some hours, you can put the computer to sleep to save power. There are some cases whereby you are not going to use the computer for some days and the current task you are running need not to be aborted knowing that shutting down your computer will stop the process. What are you gonna do? Sleep the computers for days? Nah. You hibernate.

So, Hibernation is an option that combines the benefit of sleep mode and shutting down the computer. When you choose to hibernate your computer, the computer saves the current of the system from the computer’s RAM to the hard disk and shuts down.

When the computer is restarted, instead of going through the typical boot process, the computer loads the previously saved state in to the RAM. The previous running programs and opened windows appear as they were when the computer entered the hibernate mode.

How to activate Hibernate function on Windows 8.

To activate this function on windows 8, go to your control panel and click on the System and Security tab.
From the listed menus, Click on Power Options. In the left pane, select the function “choose what closing the lid does”. There’s a link above the battery & charger icon that says “change settings that are currently unavailable”.
Click on the link and then scroll downward. You will see the shut down settings boldly highlighted. Mark the hibernate box and save the changes you’ve made. Your hibernate function is now activated.

You know where to confirm it now, don’t you? Yes, when you swerve to the bottom right corner your desktop then you click on settings followed by Power and there you see it. You got it right… That is just it, the hibernate button is activated.

When you set up an Ad-Hoc connection on your computer, you will be able to connect with other devices and thus share files with them. You can also share the internet connection of your computer with other devices without the need of external router or access point. You can also use your Ad-Hoc connection to play multiplayer video games.

In the above tutorial link, we have talked about how to create a wireless hosted network. However, you cannot still share your internet connection straight away like that. You will have to follow the steps below to successfully share your internet connection with other devices.

How to share your computer’s internet connection.

Make sure your computer (the hosting computer) is connected to the internet and your hosted network is started.
In the network sharing center tab under control panel, your Wi-Fi Hotspot and your internet connection will be listed. See screenshot below.

Click on your Internet connection and select Properties from the dialog box that appears.
In the windows that open up, select the Sharing tab. Mark the box with the option Allow other network users to connect through this …
In the next box that follows, select your hotspot connection name; mine is Local Connection 12*. Click on Ok and you are done.

Any device that connect to your Computer’s hosted network will be able to access internet using your computer’s connection.

The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to set up your wireless network as Wi-Fi Hotspot on your Windows 8 computer.

How to create Wi – Fi Hotspot in Windows 8.

The First thing is to check if your device support Ad Hoc connections or not. To check, Open Command prompt in Administrator Mode. (Press Windows Key + X, then select Command Prompt with Admin).
Type this command; netsh wlan show drivers
Look out for “Hosted Network Support”. If Yes, you are good to continue. Otherwise, you’ll have you update your wireless device driver.

Now to configure the wireless network, type this command and press enter when done; netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=networkname key=password

Change the network name to your desire and set your password. Remember your password, you will surely need when necessary.

You’ve successfully created a hosted network on your computer. Now to start your newly set Wi – Fi Hotspot, type this command; netsh wlan start hostednetwork

To stop the set up hosted network, just change “start” in the above command to “stop”.

With your Wi Fi Hotspot ready, you can easily share your computer internet connection with other devices and also share your files with other computer users..

How to Install .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 (Offline)

Sometimes you might want to install an application on your windows 8 computer only to see that a feature is required in other to continue or finalize the installation. You know what, when you don’t have this feature on your computer, the installation fails.

What is .NET Framework?

.NET Framework is a platform that is required to run several Microsoft – based applications and programming languages. This platform is also required as a prerequisite during the installation of many Microsoft application. If you want to install an application that requires a specific version of the .NET Framework, the application installer program might install the .NET framework on your computer (If built with the application). Otherwise, it prompt you to install the feature on you computer.

How do you install .NET Framework in offline mode?

To install this feature in offline mode, you must have the copy of your installation media available. It is not necessary it be the one you used for your O. S installation, just make sure the disc you have is of the same O. S that is on presently on your computer i.e Windows 8 – It doesn’t matters if Pro or Enterprise.

Insert the installation media into your computer. Note down the drive letter.
Open the command prompt in Administrator mode. Press the Windows key + X. Click on Command prompt (Admin).
Type the following; DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:G:\sources\sxs
Replace G with the drive letter of your installation media.

The LimitAccess prevents the DISM from accessing the internet.

PS: The process might read to about 65.8%. Don’t panic, just wait patiently. However, if it takes too much time like 15 minutes and it’s still at 65.8%, stop the process and eject the media form the computer. Let your system cool down then restart your computer and follow the instructions above again.

PSS: If you don’t want to copy the above code directly from this page, you should take note of the space that is at the back of the slashes i.e space/Online and so on.

Use wireless network to transfer file(s) from one computer to another.

Sometimes you’ll want to transfer file(s) to your friend(s) or backup your file(s) to another external storage. You can either use Bluetooth, a network cable, flash drive, external hard drive and wireless mode. Files such as video games are relatively inn size (some are larger than 5gb) that you cannot send them at a go using any of the above named methods except using external hard drive (depending on its size), cable, or wireless.

Ironically, the cheap cost of external hard drive and a network cable make it a bit strait for some of us to get one. I find it frustrating to be borrowing network cable anytime I need to transfer files that large (5gb and above). I know there should be a way of using the wireless method to achieve this purpose.

Today, I bring to you how to use wireless network to transfer files from one computer to another computer. First, you’ll need to create an ad hoc wireless connection.

If you don’t know how to do that, then you need to read this first.

Set Up Ad Hoc wireless Network on Windows 7

After creating an ad hoc network, the next step is to make your computer visible to the other computer. To do this, just follow the steps below;

Open Control Panel and click on Network and Internet. Click on View network status and tasks.
By the left at the top corner of the windows, click Change Advanced Sharing Settings.

In the opened window, there you will see three type of networks (depending on your OS, it might be two on yours) namely; Public/Guest, Private, and All Network.

Expand each network and mark the turn on network discovery and File & Printer sharing option.
Under the Public/Guest/All network option, turn off password protected sharing and mark the Sharing with anyone… box.
Save the changes and exit the window.
Connect to your ad hoc network and wait for the other computer user to connect to your ad hoc.
Carry out these above steps on the computer(s).

Note: You will have to give the other computer user the passkey you used when creating the ad hoc network so as for him/her to have access to your network.

After the computers are connected, the network notification should look like this (It might not be exactly like this on yours).

Click on Computer and click on the Network icon at the bottom left corner. You should see both your computer’s name and other connected computers’

In this case, you have two option. For instance, if your computer’s name is Computer A and the other computers’ is Computer B and you want to copy file(s) from Computer B to Computer A, you can either;

Go to Computer B and move/copy all the files you want to transfer to Local Disk >> Users >>Public (paste the file inside public folder and not outside). Then access the file from Computer A under network. Or
Go to Local Disk >> Users on Computer B and right click on the name of the computer, scroll down to Share with and select Anyone or Everyone. By doing this, you can access All the files that are on Computer B from Computer A. Hope you will enjoy the speed.

A modem (Modulator/Demodulator) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information. The goal is to produce a signal that can be transmitted easily and decoded to reproduce the original digital data. These signals can be transmitted over telephone lines and demodulated by another modem at the receiver side to recover the digital data.

Modem are generally classified by the amount of data they can send in a given unit of time usually express in bits per second (bps)or bytes per second (B/s).

Today in Nigeria, we have different types of modem based on their manufacturer i.e HUAWEI, ZTE e.t.c. Modem can also be categorise based on the network to which they are locked to irrespective of their manufacturer i.e MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, STARCOMM, ETISALAT, e.t.c.

Some of these modem allows you to make and receive calls whereas some does not. Mind you, when a modem is locked to a SIM or a network, the modem doesn't allow you to make use of another SIM or network in it except for the one to which it is locked to; unless you unlock the modem.

So, how do you make and receive calls with your MTN FASTLINK MODEM?

Download this file GLO 3G PLUS
Create a folder on your desktop and name it GLO 3G PLUS
Extract the content of the file you downloaded into this folder
Copy the folder from your desktop and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ (for 64bits pc)or C:\Program files\ (for 32bits pc)and paste the folder there.
Open the GLO 3G PLUS you just pasted and look out for an application named GLO 3G PLUS with Glo icon

Right click on it and create shortcut to the desktop
To make call, close the MTN FASTLINK program and open the GLO 3G PLUS from your desktop

You can now make and receive calls with your MTN FASTLINK modem

I upgraded from windows 7 Home premium to Ultimate some weeks ago. I wish all is working perfectly until I found that windows update wouldn’t just work.

I went in search for a solution to this problem and … gbam! I stumble on this one which I decided to share with you. If you’re having problem with your windows update which is similar to the above problem, this will come in handy.

Is your windows update not running? Perhaps giving you the error message “Windows cannot currently check for update because the service is not running” or something relating to that? Relax, because your problem is solved. Many users having the same process like this have solved theirs with this solution.

Sometimes, you might get the error message as above whereas the windows update is running without you knowing. In such case, follow the steps below.

Go to start and type Services. Msc
Scroll down to find windows update service
Make sure windows update service Is stopped, else right click and stop it.
Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ and delete all files in the folder.

Come back to services msc and start windows update. That is all your windows update should now be working.
