Crisp Media Brings Adhesion HTML5 Ad Units to the iPad

Launching 3D in an Effort to End Banner Blindness

New York -- October 4, 2011 -- Crisp Media, a cross platform rich media advertising provider, announced today that it has added several new interactive features to its AdhesionTM ad units -- including 3D, video, and animation campaign capabilities. Adhesion is a persistent, above the fold overlay ad placement that outperforms standard banners by more than 2 to 1, and enables publishers to sell premium mobile inventory more effectively and at higher prices. Adhesion is the perfect springboard for mobile rich media campaigns on smartphones as ads are kept in view while scrolling vertically up and down the page.

Adhesion for iPad expands the value proposition for advertisers whowant to run rich media on tablets. Safari is the most popular app on iPad, but it suffers from a major formatting problem -- publisher sites cannot control the ad experience when users pinch and zoom desktop formatted pages, leaving ads missing from the page or pixelated. Adhesion corrects this problem. Beyond being an advanced placement, Adhesion layers on a bevy of new interactive features aimed at driving up dwell time, without overloading the user on the mobile network. Adhesion's new features include enhanced video performance, animated creative without Flash, and accelerometer controlled 3D effects without plug-ins.

Over the summer Crisp launched a wide set of rich media campaigns that leverage Adhesion's new design flexibility and deep device functionality.

"The introduction of these new features provides advertisers and agencies worldwide with an imaginative, dynamic way to interact with mobile consumers," said Boris Fridman, CEO, Crisp Media. "Adhesion ads are built on Crisp Engage, a flexible, standards-ready rich media platform that publishers and agencies alike can trust to run their campaigns across any HTML5 capable device."

"As the premier digital media company, Yahoo! is dedicated to working only with trusted partners to deliver innovative advertising solutions for the world's top brands. Crisp has been one of those strong partners for us in the mobile and tablet space," Alex Linde, Director of Mobile & Tablet Advertising, Yahoo!. "Crisp offers a compelling ad format for both advertisers and users -- in fact, it's been at the heart of some of the highest performing campaigns across Yahoo!'s mobile experiences."

"Adhesion is the most advanced placement on the market. It ends banner blindness on any sized screen," added Fridman. "Finally, publishers can monetize desktop sites viewed in iPad Safari with rich media ads, and advertisers can stop wasting money on banners that are invisible or distorted on the iPad."

About Crisp Media

ORMMA Gains MMA Support on Open Standards for Rich Media Mobile Advertising

MMA Support Broadens the Reach of ORMMA Internationally; Making it Easier for Advertisers to Run Campaigns Across Multiple Publishers and Applications

NEW YORK – June 16, 2011 – ORMMA, the Open Rich Media Mobile Advertising initiative, today announced that the MMA ( Mobile Marketing Association) will support the ORMMA rich media mobile advertising initiative. ORMMA is an initiative driven by a consortium of companies from across the mobile advertising spectrum that collaborate to resolve interoperability and technology issues which hamper the growth and scale of rich media mobile advertising by creating an open standard and set of industry best practices. By showing its support for ORMMA, the MMA extends the reach of open standards internationally and lends its weight to overcoming the fragmentation plaguing mobile advertisers. Since ORMMA was founded in 2010 by Crisp Media and The Weather Channel; the initiative has grown to more than 20 member companies from across the mobile advertising ecosystem, including AdMarvel, Admeld, Celtra, Gannett, Goldspot Media, mOcean, Nexage, PointRoll, Ringleader Digital, Rhythm NewMedia and others.

“ORMMA addresses two key stumbling blocks facing mobile advertisers – ad SDK interoperability and consistent measurement across applications and sites. By having open standards we are making it easier for agencies to run rich media campaigns across applications to achieve greater reach, without having to adapt their creative formats or ad serving,” said Michael Becker, managing director of North America for the MMA. “On behalf of our members, the MMA will analyze the contributions of ORMMA, identify additional needs and contribute to its proliferation across our global membership.”

“The Weather Channel adopted the ORMMA standard to get rid of the headache of incorporating multiple ad SDKs into our apps and to make it easier for our advertisers to deliver HTML5 rich media ads to our audience,” said Cameron Clayton, executive vice president of digital products for The Weather Channel. “To the delight of our creative team, we recently rolled out our first ORMMA-compliant campaigns, which deliver a robust user experience and greatly improved ad tracking. Without all the ad vendor integrations, we are now able to roll out application updates more frequently to better satisfy our customers.”

The goal of ORMMA is allow ad developers to create one campaign that can run across a universe of mobile applications and sites, without sacrificing a rich user experience. Since its founding, ORMMA has developed a specification for an open API that unlocks all native capabilities for iOS and Android devices, allowing advertisers to create ads using HTML5 standards that can access all the native features of the device, such as location, shaking, and more. ORMMA is also developing capabilities that ORMMA-compliant developers can include in their advertising SDKs, including support for ad caching, polite loading, and increased privacy controls. In addition to support from the MMA, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has adopted the ORMMA API to create the MRAID standard, which creates an ad interface definition that enables ad units to communicate with the medium they are served on using a standard API.

“The MMA’s support of ORMMA is a big step forward to creating an industry standard that makes rich media ad serving easier for everyone,” said Xavier Facon, chief technical officer of Crisp Media. “Publishers and developers won’t have to worry about another SDK to implement and advertisers have the peace-of-mind of knowing that their ads will run and work consistently across apps, sites, and devices.”

Companies interested in joining ORMMA should visit the ORMMA blog, join the Discussion Group, or visit the Google Code Project.

About ORMMA

ORMMA, or the Open Rich Media Mobile Advertising initiative, was founded in November 2010 to simplify the serving of rich media ads into mobile applications by creating an open standard and set of industry best practices. Founded by leading mobile advertising companies Crisp Media, The Weather Channel, TringApps, Jumptap, and PointRoll, the open initiative has grown to include over 20 member companies. Through an open source forum, ORMMA has released three-levels of standards and best practices for adoption by publishers, developers, and vendors.
ORMMA Breaks Down the Barriers to Large-Scale Media Buys by Enabling Cross-Device/Cross-Platform Rich Media Ad Serving through a Single Open Ad Technology

NEW YORK – November 18, 2010 – ORMMA, the Open Rich Media Mobile Advertising initiative, today unveiled its rich media advertising specifications and open source code to any publishers who want to serve rich media campaigns across all mobile platforms and devices. Launched by founding members The Weather Channel, Crisp, and TringApps, the ORMMA initiative is being adopted by leading players including PointRoll, Jumptap and others. The initiative is under review by the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), which is expected to release a whitepaper and evaluation of ORMMA within the next three months.

“The current model for serving ads into mobile apps is broken. Publishers and app developers need to work with numerous vendors and SDKs to run campaigns across multiple platforms and devices, which greatly limits the ability to plan large-scale, mobile rich media ad buys,” stated Cameron Clayton, senior vice president of mobile and digital applications for The Weather Channel. “The mission of ORMMA is to simplify the serving of rich media ads into mobile apps by creating an open standard and industry best practices that gain contribution from – and are adopted by – leading publishers, developers and vendors.”

ORMMA proposes a vendor-agnostic approach to solving the fragmentation that exists in the mobile advertising industry--extending desktop ad serving technology to mobile apps. The ORMMA specifications utilize existing HTML5 standards, enabling ad units to be created and delivered in a simplified manner so they are compatible across all devices and platforms.

“Large publishers have gone to great lengths to make it possible to serve rich media ads into their mobile applications,” said Boris Fridman, CEO of Crisp Wireless. “ORMMA is an elegant, open-source based approach that bridges the gap between desktop and mobile and simplifies the process of serving rich media across multiple platforms and devices.”

Each of the founding members has played an integral role in development of the ORMMA initiative, with The Weather Channel leading the native implementation specifications, TringApps spearheading the multi-platform implementation, and Crisp creating the ad implementation specs.

“This technical standard avoids requiring applications to be integrated with multiple ad serving SDKs at once. We will save on time and effort by providing this universal option to our customers,” says Tarun Gaur, CEO of TringApps.

ORMMA is now open for all publishers and developers to join and contribute to the open source community, which will allow for quick development and adoption of standards and specifications. Milestones, news and blog posts will be available on the ORMMA website at www.ormma.org, which also directs users to the ORMMA Google Code Project wiki. The wiki provides an overview of the SDK and covers the proposed standards for interoperable rich media display advertising in mobile applications.

Intel's Drag and Drop Mobile Ad Paves the Way to a Better Alternative to iAd

As Part of The “Work Smarter” Marketing Campaign by The Hyperfactory, Intel Launches Rich Media Ads from Crisp Wireless

NEW YORK – August 2, 2010 – On the heels of Apple’s first iAds appearing to the public, mobile marketing industry leader, The Hyperfactory, and Crisp Wireless, the industry’s only cross-platform rich media mobile advertising solution, today announced a recent mobile ad campaign for Intel’s Core processors that has the richness, interactivity and polish of an iAd, without the creative restrictions and platform limitations.

As part of its “Work Smarter” marketing program, The Hyperfactory utilized Crisp Wireless’ rich media ad components to deliver an interactive rich media mobile campaign that encouraged viewers to engage with the ad to find their ideal Intel processor. The campaign, which performed better than previous campaigns, is a prime example of what agencies can accomplish, in both creative and distribution, using Crisp’s open HTML5 platform.

Intel’s interactive advertisement, which ran via an expandable banner ad, allowed users to interact by dragging and dropping icons, which then prompted a survey to determine which Intel Core Processor best-suited the users’ needs. Once a final processor selection was presented, the user could then choose to click through to an Intel “Work Smarter” micro-site or go back to the homepage from which they entered the interactive ad. Watch a demonstration here:

Intel Mobile Advertising Campaign from Crisp Wireless on Vimeo.

The Hyperfactory created the mobile Web campaign using Crisp Wireless’ platform, the only one on the market able to scale rich media ads across mobile Web and in-app, on smartphones and tablets. Using Crisp’s real-time metrics and campaign-management analytics, Intel and The Hyperfactory were able to measure interactions, completions, and site conversions, in addition to standard impressions and click-through rates.

“Just as Intel serves the world’s most powerful processors in the world, Crisp Wireless was chosen to power the mobile web component of the ‘Work Smarter’ campaign because their rich media mobile ad formats are industry leading,” said Derek Handley, CEO at The Hyperfactory. “Using the Crisp platform, we are able to create rich, iAd-like mobile ads that run across devices, publisher sites, and applications, as well as measure detailed engagement metrics across the entire campaign.”

The Crisp Wireless Platform provides unparalleled reach with premium publishers and ad networks. Over 700 sites and apps support Crisp ads, including the likes of Hearst, CBS, and The Wall Street Journal Digital Network. Crisp ad formats include expandable, location-aware, tap-to-video, interstitials with embedded video, ads with social media capabilities and can run in-app or via the Web on smartphones and tablets, including Google Android devices and Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

Crisp Wireless Adhesion Proves to be Superior Mobile Ad Placement

New Ad Placement Technology from Crisp Wireless Outperforms Standard Banners 2 to 1

NEW YORK – June 2, 2010 – Crisp Wireless, the leader in rich media mobile advertising, today announced results from campaigns utilizing Adhesion, its recently launched mobile ad placement technology for smartphones and tablets. Adhesion, which unlike typical banner ads stays fixed on the screen, delivers increased visibility for advertisers and provides premium inventory for publishers.

In just two months, Adhesion has proven that it delivers superior engagement rates compared with other mobile ads, performing twice as well as standard mobile banner ads in A/B testing. Moreover, Adhesion ads have a much longer display time compared with standard banners. The enhanced performance and brand visibility creates more value for advertisers and allows publishers to command premium pricing.

Crisp has utilized its Adhesion technology to power ads from leading brands, such as HP, Sprint, Skittles, VH1, Estee Lauder and the American Museum of Natural History. These campaigns, including tap-to-video and expandable banners, have run on Adhesion-certified premium publisher sites, including AccuWeather.com, MSNBC, E!, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and Fast Company.

“Advertisers are already seeing the great benefits of using Adhesion over standard mobile banner ads, with a 2-to-1 performance advantage,” said Boris Fridman, CEO of Crisp Wireless. “Adhesion is the only cross-platform fixed ad placement available to publishers and advertisers today; allowing brands to reach consumers browsing the Web from an iPhone, Android device or iPad.”

Adhesion supports all of Crisp’s rich media ad formats including expandable, location-aware, tap-to-video, tap-to-call, data collection, and link to social networking capabilities. Adhesion measures results far beyond the click-through-rate, delivering metrics around display time, panel interactions, menu interactions, video plays and much more. Adhesion is available to any publisher, brand or agency. Contact sales@crispwireless.com for details.

Crisp Wireless Launches Adhesion, A First-of-its-Kind Ad Placement Technology for Publishers

Hearst Magazines Digital Media Sign On
To Offer Crisp’s Adhesion Placement on the Mobile Web

NEW YORK – January 20, 2010 – Crisp Wireless, a leading rich media mobile advertising company, today announced the launch of Adhesion, a new proprietary mobile ad placement technology for smartphones (watch Adhesion video.) Adhesion is a fixed placement technology that brings the best of in-app advertising to the mobile Web and enables publishers to sell premium inventory more effectively.

Standard mobile web banners have limited effectiveness because they go out of view as soon as the user scrolls. Adhesion ads remain fixed “above-the-fold”, providing the maximum view time and opportunities for engagement. Publishers can easily add Adhesion to their mobile sites by using the Crisp Ad Management Platform. No changes to the mobile site are required.

“Today, we are raising the stakes in mobile advertising. Crisp is the first to offer this innovative ad placement on the mobile web, delivering new value to both brand advertisers and premium publishers,” said Boris Fridman, CEO of Crisp Wireless. “Adhesion, combined with Crisp’s rich media ad formats, provides publishers with far more compelling inventory and delivers brands superior performance.”

With 66.9 million unique users averaging more than 3 billion monthly page views, the mobile web has reached critical mass and is an untapped resource for brand advertisers. According to research firm Gartner, the mobile web is expected to overtake desktop computers as the most common web access device by 2013. Crisp Wireless developed Adhesion to increase brand engagement for advertisers within the limited real estate of a mobile device, and allow publishers to differentiate premium advertising from performance-based banner ads.

Adhesion is the perfect springboard for rich media campaigns. Adhesion supports all of Crisp’s rich media ad formats including expandable, location-aware, tap-to-video, tap-to-call, data collection, link to social networking capabilities, and more. Each Adhesion ad offers a control menu, allowing the viewer to expand, close, save, or share the ad content through email or social networks. Adhesion can also serve display ad units, such as MMA banners, from third parties, including ad networks.

Hearst Magazines Digital Media is one of the first publishers to sign on to offer Adhesion placements to its advertisers across its mobile properties including Cosmopolitan, CosmoGirl, Marie Claire, Esquire, House Beautiful, Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Harper’s Bazaar and Seventeen. Launched in March 2006, Hearst Magazines Digital Media, a unit of Hearst Magazines, is dedicated to creating and implementing the digital strategy for Hearst’s magazine brands and other sites, which serve the company’s consumers and audience.

"Hearst’s mobile sites offers our magazine readers and site visitors a highly engaging experience and information on the go. We are consistently looking to expand our offerings to provide readers and advertisers with more choice,” said Kristine Welker, vice president, sales & marketing, Hearst Magazines Digital Media. “With Adhesion, we are providing advertisers with unique rich media mobile advertising options. This new service will allow us to integrate digital advertising with mobile opportunities and create new ways for our users to interact with the trusted brands that advertise with Hearst.”

Back-end management for Adhesion is powered by Crisp's powerful Ad Management Platform. Detailed campaign reports are available in the Crisp Rich Media Reporting Dashboard, which offers agencies real-time analytics and optimization capability.

Adhesion is available immediately to any publisher with a mobile web site, contact sales@crispwireless.com for details.

About Crisp Wireless
Crisp Wireless is a mobile advertising company that offers a rich media mobile ad platform and a full catalog of beyond-the-banner ad units to enable premium brands to interact with consumers on mobile devices. The company makes it easier for advertising agencies to buy, create, and manage mobile rich media campaigns. Crisp also empowers publishers to take control of their valuable mobile inventory and maximize their mobile ad revenue. Leading brands including Lexus, Infiniti, Paramount Pictures, and others have utilized Crisp Rich Media ads. Crisp Publisher Partners include Discovery Communications, A&E Television Networks, Fast Company, Inc., Hearst Magazines Digital Media, Pro Football Weekly, and others.
Crisp Wireless Releases Latest Crisp Wireless Index with Review of 2008 Mobile Web Trends

MARCH 30, 2009 - Crisp Wireless, the leading provider of mobile advertising and mobile content solutions for premium media companies and brands, today announced results from its Year-In-Review Crisp Wireless Index™ (CWI). The index is a barometer of consumer activity online via mobile devices based on usage across the Crisp Wireless Premium Publisher Network, which represents over half of the mobile Internet traffic (based on unique visits) in the U.S., from January 1 through December 31, 2008.

The CWI identified a number of interesting mobile trends and statistics, including:

In 1Q08, Blackberry represented 17.33% of traffic and iPhone only 9.1%, but by year-end, Blackberry represented 23.98% and iPhone had grown to 22.98%.

The percentage of traffic driven from mobile search engines is slowly growing from 7.51% in 1Q08 to 8.85% in 4Q08, while the percentage of traffic coming from carrier decks has continued to drop from 53.4% in 1Q08 to 36.91% in 4Q08. More and more mobile web traffic is going “off-deck,” opening the mobile advertising channel to more inventory and fewer restrictions.

Sites drawing the highest percentages of visits per unique are in the TV & Entertainment, with 4.47 and Men/Sports categories, with 5.32 in 4Q08.

The number of searches, although still representing a significant portion of mobile search, for a specific property or site name is slowly decreasing from 1Q08-4Q08, 29.5% to 25% respectively, corresponding with the relatively slow growth of mobile search.

Online services and local categories have the highest percentage of traffic driven by mobile search; however, women’s lifestyle has shown a surge in the second half of 2008 registering 21.53% in 3Q08 and 19.35% in 4Q08 up from 2.54% in 2Q08.

The latest CWI shows that the Entertainment category registered the most searched terms in mobile during the last three quarters of 2008 with “Movies/Movie Listings” coming in at number one. Following “Movies/Movie Listings” in 4Q08 were “Jennifer Hudson,” “mobile,” and “Barack Obama.”

“The Crisp Wireless Index is the only study that looks at actual consumer behavior of a large portion of mobile Internet users in the United States and is becoming the industry standard for providing a reliable measure of mobile web trends and consumer activity via mobile devices,” said Boris Fridman, CEO, Crisp Wireless. “The information provided within this particular report was gathered from select data captured from across Crisp Wireless’ Mobile Publisher Network of over 200 premium mobile web sites and its more than 30 million mobile web visitors. By tracking mobile usage across our vast network of sites, we are arming advertisers with information that helps them make informed mobile inventory buying decisions.”

The Crisp Wireless Index™ is a measure of unique mobile interactions within and across key mobile content categories including but not limited to national news, local TV news, local newspapers, magazines, online services, women’s lifestyle, men’s, sports, , and entertainment.
