Yarns usually has a nice stretch when you do the double crochet stitch

Measures 19-20 inches, made it for my 4 year old.

Length: 7 inches , use smaller hook for smaller size or larger hook for a larger hat.

Supplies: I hook H hook

I used Red Heart Pink, white, and black yarn

Abbreviations: ch=chain sl st=slip stitch sc=single crochet dc=double crochet dc2tog=double crochet 2 together

Instructions: I hook white yarn for the hat ch 5, to form ring, join with sl st. rnd 1. ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st on top of ch 3. -12 sts. rnd 2. ch 2, dc in same st as joining, 2dc in each st. around. join with sl st. -24 sts. rnd 3. ch 2, *dc in next st, 2dc in next st., repeat from *around, join with sl st. -36 sts. rnd 4. ch 2, *dc in the next 2 sts, 2dc in the next st, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -48 sts. rnd 5. *ch 2, dc in each st across, join sl st., *repeat. continue until the hat reaches 7 inches, sl st. fasten off.

Eyes:

Make one eye using black yarn

H hook

Use a black and white button

rnd 1: ch 2, work 5 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st. (5sc)

rnd 2: work 2sc in each stitch around, (10sc) sl st.

rnd 3: 1 sc in the next stitch, 2sc in next stitch, *repeat from* around, sl st.

rnd 4: *work 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat from *around, sl st.

rnd 5: *work 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat from *around, sl st. fasten off, weave in the ends.

Sew a white button on the black circle you made, place the button close to the edge. Sew the black circle above the muzzle off to the side. Then sew a black button next to the black circle about 1 inch apart above the muzzle.

Ears:

Change to Brown yarn: Double crochet and repeat the same pattern above with an H hook until it reaches 7 inches, I did two rows, may take 3 rows. This will snug the head better.

Eye Brows:

Make 2

Black yarn, H hook

chain 14, hdc in each stitch across (13 sts.) fasten off. (Make 2)

Place both eyebrows together between the eyes going downward as seen in the picture.

Place the pupils in the corner of the eyes, going inward, so it looks angry, as seen in the picture above.

Beak:

Top Head Pieces:

Attach the two head pieces on top of the hat side by side, but have one piece slightly in front of the other one.

You can do HDC crochet pattern instead of a DC pattern if you like for the hat: hdc2tog=half double crochet 2 together decrease, hdc=half double crochet I made this for my 4 year old, measures 19 inches around with nice stretch and length= 7 inches long. Place the muzzle on the bottom center part of the hat, fill with stuffing as you go. Sew in a nose with a yarn needle and black yarn over and over until you fill the circle center part of the muzzle.

You can add a smile too, by sewing in a straight line across the bottom of the muzzle with black yarn, then go back and secure the center by sewing the center with a small stitch.
