Free Crochet Pattern for a Woman's Boa Scarf

I love the grape color used in this scarf and was planning to make a matching hat but before I could grab a couple of more skeins, this color was discontinued ! Well, I am glad I could at least finish the scarf after I frogged a couple of my other projects. I see the stitch on this as a kind of faux loopy stitch that is way easier to work than the original. I can easily visualize this stitch pattern on a throw pillow. If you would make this scarf what colors do you think it would look good in?

The scarf is quick to work up and you need to know only the basic crochet stitches. Pattern uses an I (5.5 mm) hook and worsted weight (size 4 medium yarn) or Aran in UK. I first made this scarf last winter but never found the time to publish the pattern. So here is another one of my UFOs finally seeing the light of the day! For those of you who are not familiar with the crochet jargon UFO didn't mean that I tossed it flying out of the window. It means an unfinished object in crochet. Frogging? It means ripping off your work. The usage came from the fact that "rip it, rip it" sounds like a frog's call. Crochet sure is a fascinating craft, isn't it?

Crochet Pattern for a visor beanie or hat, newborn, baby to adult

This is my fifth hat pattern and I am incredibly happy that it can be adapted for a boy as well. In the boy version the visor is worked in a slightly different way. The flower on the girl's hat is quick to work up and makes a stunning embellishment. If you are making it for a woman you can omit the flower and opt for wooden buttons instead. This hat will keep you warm and make a great photography prop as well. So choose your own colors and make it for every member of the family, young and old!

The pattern includes all sizes from Newborn to Adult. It has instructions for the girl and boy versions and the flower as well. Pattern is worked in worsted weight yarn (size 4 medium), the UK equivalent of which is Aran. It includes pictures of every step to make it easy for even beginners. You need to know only the basic crochet stitches for this one and it works up really quick. It is written in standard American terms.

Crochet Pattern for Baby Beanie or Hat

I love being able to have a pattern that can be used for everybody in the family, so I designed another unisex one. Change colors to make it for your girl or boy. You can work it in a single color and it would look just as beautiful. If pom pom is not your style you can omit that too. I love the texture on this one and I am sure you will too. I love the picture Kristen took of the newborn girl and think this would make a great photography prop too. Thank You Kristen!

The pattern includes detailed step by step instructions of all the stitches. You will have to work front post triple crochet for this one but the pattern includes a photo tutorial for the same. Check out my tutorial on front post double crochet here to find out if it is right for you. Pattern is in Standard American terms and is written for all sizes newborn to adult man. Worsted weight yarn (size 4 medium) is used with an H or G hook.

Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to your PayPal id in 24 hours. If you want it mailed to any other id please mention that in the " Message to the Seller" during checkout. You can always mail me if you have any questions.

Scarves are probably the first projects a beginner crocheter would take up. It would give them lot of practice in working the stitches while making something useful. This hooded scarf can be your favorite fashion accessory for winter while keeping you warm and cozy. It is made using a single strand of worsted weight yarn and double crochet stitches making it a quick and easy crochet project. The ridges on the hood give it added texture but you can easily skip that step if you wish. I chose a a simple edging for my hood but you can change it to suit your taste. You can try a reverse single crochet edging, a shell edging or even a picot one. I love this mustard color and think the scarf would look great in grey, green or cream as well. You can even work your scarf in the same stitch pattern as your hood. I would love to experiment and make this in a striped pattern, making the ridges in a contrasting color. How about a black and white one? If I ever find the time to make it in stripes I will be sharing the picture with all of you. Happy Crocheting!

Lately I have gotten interested in the history of the accessories I make. True or not, here is what I found out about ear flap hats. Ear flap hats called Chillos have been used in the Andean Mountain regions since the pre-Hispanic times where they were used as a protection against the cold weather. The ear flaps were tied under the chin for more warmth. In the late 2000 it became a widely used winter accessory made famous by the popularity of Snowboarding.

The ear flap hat is a must-have winter accessory that can keep you warm and comfortable. The pattern tells you how to make the pom poms without a pom pom kit. The pattern is written in Standard American terms and requires only basic crochet skills. It includes sizes newborn to adult woman. I would be adding the adult male size to this pattern soon. Pattern uses Hooks G ( 4.25mm) for size 6-12 months and Hook H (5mm) for all the other sizes . Hat is worked using Worsted weight/ Aran (Size 4 Medium) yarn.

Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to your PayPal id in 24 hours.

I had got several requests for hat patterns last winter but never really got the time to design anything other than booties. My dream is to ultimately have all types of patterns for babies, be it booties, hats ,dresses, bibs or blankets. This is one more step in that direction and I had to try really hard to step out of my comfort zone of designing and photographing booties. I figured that photographing dark colors like brown can be as tricky as white but believe me if you ask me my favorite among the two above, the brown one wins hands down. The picture fails to capture its real beauty. This beanie has a nice lacy texture with the gaps kept small. It should be perfect for the not so cold weather. The pattern comes in all sizes from newborn to adult. So you can make it for all the girls and ladies in your family! It works up really quick and is suited for all levels of expertise. The ruffly nature of the flower makes it stand out even with a single layer of petals.

Pattern uses Hooks G ( 4.25mm) for size 6-12 months and Hook H (5mm) for all the other sizes . It is written in standard American terms. Pattern includes all sizes from newborn to adult. Hat is worked using Wortsed weight/ Aran (Size 4 Medium) yarn. Stitches used are single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and slip stitch. If you are making it for your baby, make a matching pair of boots with my "Boots for Girls" pattern found here:
http://crochetdreamz.blogspot.com/2010/12/boots-for-girls-pdf-pattern-for-sale.html

Payment can be made securely through PayPal. Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to your PayPal id in 24 hours. If you want it mailed to any other id please mention that in the " Message to the Seller" during checkout. You can always mail me if you have any questions. Please do not resell the pattern itself or pass it on to others. You can make it for yourself or as a gift. If you sell items made from my pattern please do give my blog credit.

Halloween is round the corner and I wanted to crochet something fun . So here is my "Boo Witch Basket" for your kiddos! My little one wanted a regular pumpkin one as she thought a witch would be too spooky but needless to say she fell in love with it once it was completed and can't wait to show off to her friends. I really enjoyed putting together this weird project too. I am especially proud of her grin and the nose I somehow managed to make. The pattern turned out to be longer than I thought with so many facial features but was well worth the effort. The smile on my little girl's face said it all!

I used two strands of worsted weight/ Aran ( size 4 medium) yarn for the sides of the basket and I made it wide to hold more candy for trick or treating rather than keeping it compact like my Easter bunny basket. There is a cardboard hidden in the hat to make it stand up. You can run a satin ribbon through the handle and sew it down together to prevent the handle from stretching. You can even convert this pattern into a jack-o-lantern by following the pattern to make the basket in orange and sticking on some black felt for the features. As simple as that! I hope you all will enjoy making this!

It has been quite sometime since I posted a free pattern. So I thought I would post a couple of headband patterns which would make an easy to make accessory for this summer and a great way to use that scrap yarn we all have been holding onto for so long. I have really enjoyed making the summer patterns, the Flip flops and the Sporty Sandals and this one comes as the final icing on the cake. After all, who doesn't love flowers and when it comes to crocheted ones aren't they just irresistible? You can use them to embellish a dress or a hat as well.

Make them in any colors of your choice using worsted weight yarn. Pattern tells you how to make it for any size head and includes a chart to help you with the measurements if you are making it for someone else. Using a bigger hook than specified can help you increase the size of the flower. I prefer keeping the headbands as narrow as possible as it makes the flower stand out. You can use a single flower or a pair of contrasting flowers partly overlapping each other, in the same sizes or in two different sizes. Just experiment with the colors, size and alignment and you can make it look different every time you crochet it.

My first blog post was on June 29, 2010. My profile is outdated and my 5 year old is now a 6 year old losing teeth. I can't believe that I have been blogging for a year, time sure flies! I still clearly remember that in one of the first few posts I mentioned, "I don't know where this journey will take me but I am positive I will enjoy the process". True to my prediction, I have immensely enjoyed the roller coaster ride, the ups and downs, the stills in between, the confidence, the confusion, the hope, the faith and everything that comes with starting your small business. The love and acceptance I got from people all over the world was truly mind blowing. In the past one year I have transformed from a Stay at home mom to a Work at home one. Juggling different roles was a challenge I learned to handle over time.

I learned my lessons every step of the way, some on time and some a little late. God knows why it took me a year to add a "Contact Me" form! Again, when I initially used to post pictures of my new designs I never posted a link to the post and left people wondering where they could find the patterns. The very first time I got a question on one of my patterns, I panicked and thought I wouldn't be able to handle it. Now, a year down the lane, I know my patterns inside out and can answer any question in flat 2 minutes. To all those fellow craft bloggers out there, you will learn on the job but most important of all, enjoy the ride!

Some fun facts about my journey so far :

* I have had customers from 22 countries so far.

* It took me 1 year to add 1000 likes to my Facebook fan page but only 2 months to add the

next 500.

* My first customer was from Spain and she bought the only 2 designs I had on sale, Ballet Flats and Strappy Sandals.

* Sporty Sandals is the design I am most proud of, well, so far.......

* When I started crocheting seriously , I had only 3 colors of yarn, pink, purple and beige.

Needless to say some of my earliest attempts were downright ugly!

And last but not the least.......

* Out of the first 4 followers I had, 2 were me in two different avatars! Nope, I am not in here in 1000 different names, trust me :)

They are popularly called Thongs in Australia and Jandals in Newzealand. The earliest known flip flops were made from plant fibers or wood . It is one of the most common type of footwear in developing countries as it is inexpensive, often less than a dollar. Flip flops have really caught on as a trend and are as ubiquitous as the athletic shoes. You see kids wearing them to the beach or the pool all the time. It gives you that ' out to have fun' feeling.

I had never thought that babies could wear flip flops as it would tickle their toes! I saw one of my friend's baby wearing it at 3 months and was totally bowled over by it. It was the cutest sight I had ever seen. This design stems from my memory of that day. I prefer the version without the flowers but if you opt to make a pair of white flip flops then the flowers would add a splash of color. If you are going for the one without flowers choose two bright coordinating colors to make it fun and vibrant. If you are making the sun hat, make the flip flops in matching colors to spice up a simple outfit. Sun hat Pattern has to be purchased separately.

Pattern is worked in worsted weight (aran) yarn and includes 4 sizes 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 months. Like all my other patterns it has pictures of every stage to make it easy. Pattern is written in Standard American Terms. Payment can be made securely through PayPal.

I have had several requests in the past for my baby bootie patterns in bigger sizes but have always been hesitant to write patterns for the same designs again. So this time when I made this hat pattern, I decided to include bigger sizes as well. For the first time my pattern runs up to age 10. I might as well add a teenage and adult size to it soon.

This design is perfect for Summer. The gaps on the sides make sure you don't get heated up while the brim keeps the sun off your little ones's face. It works up really quick once you get into the rhythm of the pattern and you might even be able to skip all the counting. Make the flowers in coordinating colors of your choice, add a contrasting band, add a satin ribbon, the possibilities are just endless. This hat would go well with my Strappy Sandals or my Sporty Sandals and I will be designing a flip flops next to pair with this one too.

The pattern is written in standard American terms and includes sizes newborn to 10 years. It is worked using a hook H and worsted weight yarn. I have used Red Heart Super Saver and Loops and Threads Impeccable for my samples but you are free to use any worsted weight cotton for a more breathable hat. This is a beginner level pattern involving only basic crochet stitches and the pattern gives you options to make the brim wider or shorter as in the picture.

Payment can be made securely through PayPal. Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to you in 24 hours.

This is a very easy beginner baby blanket pattern. If you know the basic crochet stitches working this one is going to be a breeze. When I first made the doll appliqué the face turned out to be too long. It left me wondering what can be done to make it cuter, I figured making the face wider will do the trick. I had done the same appliqué for one of my sewing projects and I knew this could not go wrong. All said, I am quite happy with the way it turned out and I am ready to share it with all of you. This would make a beautiful stroller blanket.

The pattern is worked in worsted weight yarn and uses 2 hooks, H ( 5mm) and F ( 3.75 mm) . You can make it any size you want. Customize the colors and make it your own. Enjoy the free pattern and don't forget to share the pictures on my facebook page.

My conventional crochet wisdom sure didn't work for this one and I was forced to think out of the box. The hardest were the tree, the smoke and you won't believe it, the wheels! The wheels when worked in a normal round seemed too bulky to be sewn on a car. I somehow managed to work my way around these obstacles and the result is here for all to see. I must also add that as the weather was rainy I couldn't get well lit pictures but I am so impatient I am just posting what I got. Thank you all for your overwhelming support for my designer bibs!

When you purchase this you get the basic bib pattern with the appliqués for the train as well as the cars and tree. Work them in sets to make a beautiful gift for that special little boy. You can make more trees, place them between the cars, experiment with colors, just let your imagination run wild. This sure is going to be a fun project.

Pattern is worked in worsted weight yarn. It includes pictures of every step to make it easy for even beginners. You need to know only the basic crochet stitches for this one and it works up really quick. The finished size of the bib is 8 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches long from top to bottom. It measures 7 inches from bottom of neck to the end of the bib. The bib is worked using hook H ( 5mm) and the appliqués with hook F ( 3.75) .

Payment can be made securely through PayPal. Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to you in 24 hours. I had to use a sport weight yarn to make the straps for the smaller sizes and the pink was all I had. I used it to check the sizing and it came out looking fabulous in the design unveiling its potential as a unisex pattern. So here is another one to add to my line of sandals, a design that will suit a boy as well as a girl. If you ask me to choose my favorite, this one will win hands down. I love the fluorescent colors, the styling, the ease with which it works up just about everything. The opening at the back of the ankle is the touch that I love most. I feel like I have really evolved with each design and this one is my best so far.

Pattern is worked in worsted weight yarn and includes 4 sizes 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 months. It includes pictures of every step to make it easy for even beginners. You need to know only the basic crochet stitches for this one . The pattern uses 2 shades of worsted weight yarn for sizes 6-9 and 9-12 months and worsted weight yarn and small amounts of DK weight yarn for 0-3 and 3-6 months. Use hooks H, G for sizes 6-9 and 9-12 months. Hooks H, F and D for 0-3 months and H and F for 3-6 months. Pattern is written in standard American terms.

Payment can be made securely through PayPal. Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to you in 24 hours. A style that will look new every time you change the color combination, the classic Moccasin for your little boy! The highlight of this design lies in its detailing.

This is another one of my easy peasy patterns . I used just a single strand of worsted weight yarn and was surprised to see it hold its shape quite well. I guess the fact that the design is compact made it work. I am not an Amigurumi expert and had some trouble sewing the nose and mouth. I am guilty of making sad faces even when I used to paint and am glad this bunny came out pretty smiling. Aah! The jinx is finally broken.

Pattern is worked using a H hook and can be finished in less than 2 hours. You can even consider adding a pompom to the back as its tail. Don't you think that is a lovely idea? So come up with your versions and don't forget to share the pictures on my facebook page. Enjoy the free pattern!

Visit my blog for free crochet patterns!

How to work a Front Post and Back Post Double Crochet Stitch

Beginner Crocheters, you don't have to run at the sight of the words front post double crochet (fpdc) and back post double crochet ( bpdc). If you can manage a regular double crochet you can work your way through these too. Here is a comparative study that makes it as easy as it gets.

Both fpdc and bpdc can add more texture to your crochet project. These stitches are worked like the regular double crochet except for the fact that you insert the hook in a different way before you pull up a loop. Fpdc is easier to work than a regular double crochet. In fpdc, you insert the hook from front. In bpdc you insert the hook from back. When doing bpdc just fold and hold the work to keep it out of the way when you complete the stitch. Below is a step by step pictorial illustration of the two.

Regular Double Crochet

1.

I simply fell in love with this one and I am sure you will too! This was designed in response to a buyer saying I had less of boy designs. A simple but elegant design for your little boy with not too many embellishments. The use of single color keeps it classy and perfect for everyday wear. Wear them with Jeans, Khakis or Cords to accentuate your casual chic look.

Working in just a single color ensures that you work with the same yarn till the end and you have only 2 tails to weave in, isn't that great? Pattern is worked in worsted weight yarn and includes 4 sizes 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 months. It includes pictures of every step to make it easy for even beginners. You need to know only the basic crochet stitches for this one and it works up really quick. It is written in standard American terms and requires hooks H, F and G for the various sizes. So what are you waiting for?

Payment can be made securely through PayPal. Once you pay, the pdf pattern will be emailed to you in 24 hours. Make sure you enter your email id correctly during checkout. If you fail to receive your patterns please use the Contact Me form on the top left of my blog. Please do not resell the pattern itself or pass it on to others. The first advantage that comes to mind when you think about working from home is the extra time you get with your family. No commuting means more time, definitely true! More time for your family, far from true! Why? I guess because when you have your home as your office there is no fixed time at which it shuts down and you end up working round the clock. Again, when you work from home your work is never taken seriously by others. They do not understand that it takes commitment and time like any other business. You can't compromise on your house work because you just don't look like you are working even though you are. Donning many hats is the fate of all women but it certainly comes at a price. It is also easy to lose focus when you work from home unless you are an obsessive worker like me.

The advantage of having your home run business is that you are your own boss and you can work on your own terms. You can accommodate your kid's illness or a day off and don't have anybody to answer to but yourself. It sure looks like the list of pros is very short compared to that of cons but believe me working at your own pace is a big feel good factor. Just imagine, you don't have to wait for any public holiday to take a break!

So how do I plan to fix all the cons? Well, for start I have started working only on weekdays and taking off on weekends. The next step is to dedicate a fixed number of hours every day and try not to exceed that limit no matter how hard the temptation is. I am learning to prioritize things so that I won't have my plate full all the time! I was planning to design baby hats but decided to put it off as winter is almost getting over. I would instead focus on designing more for the spring and summer now and marketing the designs I already have. Organizing, prioritizing and time management are the keys to a successful home run business.
