The instructions on lion yarn are good 'cause I managed to work out the wave stitch.

Only did half a row of the wave stitch today as my progress was hampered by a missing hook.

I had to literally ransack my bag before the hook resurfaced

I'm planning to do the skirt in wave stitch but alas! I forgot how to do the wave effect after I finished the 4 rows of pink for the waistband.

I switched colours and decided to repeat the treble, treble, front post for another row.

Saw the explanation on the wave effect on www.lionyarn.com just now. Can't wait to start doing it tomorrow !

New Project ! Skirt

Well, I started on the waistband for a skirt for QQ but it's turning out to be a little big so I am wondering if I can fit into the skirt instead.

I haven't tried but I definitely will.

I used treble crochet throughout for the waistband and did a front post crochet every 3 stitches to give it a stretchy feeling.

I searched for crochet on wordpress and found a wonderful site of a fellow crocheter in Singapore

She's really good ! I am so impressed as well as feel so inspired.

I totally share her view that crochet is the best way to destress. But not when I'm comceptualising a design, more when I'm just doing the rounds. That's why I hate to count stitches.

I'm almost done with the back of my dress. Once that is done, I reckon doing the body of the dress will be just a matter of making the rounds. I will experiment with some new stitch for the waist bit though.

I must keep up the momentum and finish my first adult sized piece of actual clothing and not just accessories.

New handphone case

ya, I know, I just finished adding more details to my pinky handphone case.

But after one wash, it was looking kinda worn

I really feel that I needed another no frills handphone pouch thus this latest creation.

It's great, the fit is snug and I love the pattern.

It's a repeat of 3 rounds of treble and one single crochet.

Simple Crochet Shrug

I saw the pretty shrug and simple instructions from lionbrand.com

The instructions look really simple, I think I really should try making this.

SHRUG
Ch 85.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 84 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each st across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 38 in. (96.5 cm) from beginning.
FINISHING
Fold piece in half to measure 22 x 38 in. (56 x 96.5 cm). Place markers on each of the 22 in. (56 cm) sides, 7 in. (18 cm) below fold for armholes. Seam sides from markers down to lower edge. Weave in ends.

Sigh, I have a situation of supply not in sync with demand.

My kiddos want leg warmers but I make them bags and bottle holders which they refuse to use.

It's every crafter's nightmare to have no receipient for their labour of love.

Though crochet uses a hook, it's called hooked needle in Mandarin.

Show & Tell

QQ is doing her first Show & Tell on Fri and she has decided to bring the Green, Orange and Yellow crochet tote.

We did some rehearsals to help her get her thoughts going as to what she wants to tell her class.

She came up with 'Who likes this bag? Raise your hand'

: ) That's my girl and that's added incentive and motivation for me to keep hooking for her Show & Tell sessions.

Dress I - II

I got to making the bodice of the dress

This is how the collar will be fastened. Now I need to source for a good pair of closing for the collar

I couldn't resist the urge to finish the back of the dress from the collar so I digged out the inner core of the yarn in search of the other end of the ball of yarn.

I have done this before when I crochet using 2 strands of yarn.

And I found it ! I tried stuffing the core back into the yarn ball...it looks alrite to me : )

I have been working on one side of the bank of the dress on the train this morning.

I certainly hope to wrap up the 2 sides of the back quickly so my bodice can be worked up much faster. Will post more pictures of my progress tomorrow.

I can now recycle stuff especially plastic bags that would otherwise end up in landfills.

And I was lamenting that those little plastic bags that can't be recycled as trash bags are such an environmental hazard. I shall target those plastic bags as my first source of Plarn and hope to create my first project soon !

Dress I - I

I'm finally settled on a rough idea for a dress that seem to work up quite well in my head.

I started with making the collar of the dress.

Now I'm making the bodice of the dress from collar down.

I increased 1 stitch at the start and end of each row to achieve the 'triangle' effect

As I was working on the bodice which only started this morning, I had a sudden inspiration.

This need not be a bareback halter neck dress

There is always the option to make it 'un-bareback' when I'm through with it

No, I don't have any updates for the tote that's nearing completion.

I've stopped lugging it around since it's just some touchup work left and I prefer to do crochet during commute

Clothing

I think my next project should be clothing.

Though I have been crocheting for so long, I hardly venture down the path of clothing.

One thing is the fact that the tropical weather in Singapore is not very forgiving to crochet clothing unless it's holey and airy : )

But I shall attempt it. I have always always wanted to make dresses for office wear.

Let me go conceptualize something up first.

If I can't visualise in my mind, the finished product together with exactly how I am going to put it together, then I can't start at all.

I know I am very unorthodox in my approach to crocheting.

I can't follow patterns very well. I can read pattern drawings and I love looking at pictures of the crochet stuff to get inspiring.

Then it's followed by internalising of what I see followed by conceptualizing how to make it.

Sling or Tote - That is the question

Sling Bag or Hand Carry Tote Bag?

It's big and roomy to accomodate the water bottles and snacks for the kiddos.

Great choice for weekends!

Carry Tote I - II

One side of the bag is made up of 4 panels of double treble crochet done at 90 degrees to each other. This is a shortcut I thought of to create the 'patchwork' feel of sewing pieces of crochet in opposite direction of stitches.

I added my hand to give an idea of how big the project will look like eventually.

This bag is just right for a table tennis bat and a couple of ping-pong balls
