Pokemon Go has become a family activity in my house. We’ve been playing since 2016 when it first came out.

Unlike most smartphone games, this one got us out and taking walks together as a family. I’m still blown away by the positives of this game.

Growing up in the 1980s video game era, I was always told how video games would ruin us and make us dumb. As a parent, I found myself to be careful in how much I allow my children to play video games.

Truth be told, I love video games and so does my husband. I don’t believe they will make us dumb, but it’s important to us to teach our children balance in life.

Now, Pokemon Go has given us a game that has changed the way we play. You’re rewarded for physical activity and I’m loving our family walks.

November 10th 2018 will be Community Day for Cyndaquil. They will be spawning like wild fire and perhaps you can catch a few lucky ones too.

Community Day in Pokemon Go is a fabulous event that takes place in the game across the Globe. It’s only for a few hours but it's a great opportunity to get outside and do some walking.

My family will usually go for a walk in the largest park in our area. It’s a hot spot for pokemon hunting. We’ve been able to meet many other trainers and have gotten to know a few very well.

We now have a group of us that will meet up and walk together and perhaps fight a few pokemon raids together.

It’s so much fun to play with a group. We walk around catching the virtual pokemon and then you hear someone scream, “LUCKY!” Everyone in the group then cheers along.

There’s always a bit of friendly competition of who gets the most lucky pokemon and of course we make a few trades.

Community Day is a great way to see who’s out there playing. It’s a random mix of ages and groups. Some are families (even grandmas), some are serious gamers, some are couples, some are walking their dogs and some are just a group of kids having some fun.

Our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Everyone we have met so far has been friendly and welcoming, and we’ve even made a few new friends.

Chicago Blackhawks Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

Show off your team spirit this winter with this Chicago Blackhawks inspired hat. It features an optional playoff beard!

This hat was requested by my dad in 2013. Hawks fever was wild in Chicago because the Stanley Cup was within reach and the Blackhawks were unstoppable.

In true playoff fashion, the men were growing their playoff beards. All but my dad.

My dad has never been able to grow a full beard. He’s been cursed with the patchy beard and my mom does not approve. He’s always joked that it’s the price he must pay for a full head of hair.

The request really started as just a joke. He asked me if I could make him a Blackhawks hat with an optional playoff beard. The idea was just too good to pass up.

The hat design is inspired by the Chicago Blackhawks logo. It features the team colors and the Blackhawks feathers. The “playoff beard” is attached by buttons and is removable.

The Chicago Blackhawks did in fact win the Stanley Cup in 2013 and 2015.

Star Wars BB-9e Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

This new droid of the dark side is perfect for winter.

I was very excited to see a new droid for the First Order. He seems to be the evil counterpart to BB-8. The possibilities were endless.

Star Wars got me interested in this droid right away.. Of course I always check out the new toys for each movie. Sure enough, BB-9e was hitting the shelves before the movie came out.

I started working on BB-9e immediately. I was so inspired by this dark little droid. After K2SO in Rogue One, I was sure BB-9e would be great.

Star Wars has put such personality in their main character droids that they become part of the cast. The last thing I want BB-9e to be, is just another droid that just wanders across the scene.

Star Wars built me up, just to let me down. Once I saw the movie, BB-9e got a short scene with BB-8 and that was about it. No backstory, no personality, nothing!

Ugh. Yet another reason The Last Jedi left me wanting more.

But, How could I ever stay mad at Star Wars? So, I’m still holding my final judgement on Episode VIII until the final installment. Perhaps there will be more for BB-9e?

Let's all hope that J.J. Abrams can bring this saga to a satisfying and exciting close. I hope he can tie up these loose ends and mend my broken heart.
