More than anything, the moment didn’t look too big for them. They seemed completely settled and confident right from the puck drop, carved out some quality 1st period chances, and laid a handful of big hits on the Yinzers.

They looked like a team carrying a quiet type of assurance as a road underdog.

At one point, it seemed like it might be one of those games where the opposing goaltender goes on a heater, and you get stuck with a tough result. But they broke through against Stuart Skinner halfway through the second, weathered a bit of a storm at the end of that period, and then completely outplayed the Penguins in the third.

4) Flyers’ first penalty kill was solid. One good look for the Penguins with Egor Chinakhov trailing and firing from the high slot, but they looked really comfortable and didn’t give Pittsburgh much of anything at all.

5) Kris Letang’s old ass with the tripping penalty on Tyson Foerster after a picked pocket. Surely these guys’ legs aren’t what they used to be.

6) Obviously a pretty easy call on the disallowed Flyers power play goal. Both replay angles showed the contact from Dvorak on Skinner way before the puck went into the net.

7) DIRTY-ASS SIDNEY CROSBY RIPPING OFF JAMIE DRYSDALE’S HELMET!

8) Denver Barkey had some great moments towards the end of the 1st. That cross ice pass for Matvei Michkov was close, then the centering pass for Noah Cates followed by some dirty work in the corner. He was making things happening with some direct and uptempo play.

11) Another breakaway, this one for Owen Tippett. Skinner another save. Nothing doing on these clear cut chances, then go figure they put some traffic in front of the net and get the first one to go:

13) There were a couple of moments in this game where Coots looked like Usain Bolt. Was he saving it all year long, or are the Penguins just that old and slow? The captain played with a lot of jam on Saturday night.

14) Kind of a shit goal for the Penguins’ opener. The Flyers were on some long shifts and kind of backed up in their own zone. Dan Vladar makes the initial save, puck bounces back out, Sanheim and Cates can’t get there, and Malkin’s old ass goes five-hole. Really annoying. It felt like the Flyers were starting to run out of steam towards the end of the second and needed to get to the intermission.

18) Barkey got himself a clean look in the third period, stopped by Skinner. They carved out so many good chances and he stuffed all of them. The only two that got by him had traffic in front, until Martone fired a LASER:

19) Flyers did such a good job of getting sticks on pucks, bothering passing lanes, and making hustle plays overall. There wasn’t any part of the game where you thought they were getting outworked, outside of maybe the end of the 2nd when they were struggling to get out of their zone. It was really impressive how calm and collected they played for most of this game.

20) Finally – Dan Vladar played a nice game. The second goal he can’t do much about, just an unlucky bounce and the puck falls right to Rust in the slot. But Vladar was steady throughout and made a huge save with just a few seconds on the clock to preserve the W.

Gumienny said that the scope of options “spans renovating the existing stadium to building a new stadium — with a goal of creating a venue that can host more than just Eagles games but also concerts and major events.”

Very interesting! With all that in mind, let’s run through options for our Birds.

Obligatory, Realistic Options I Have to List But are Boring to Me

1. They Stay at The Linc

I think this one’s lame as hell, but it’s probably easiest for the team, so it must be seriously considered. I personally don’t have a problem with the Linc; I just like the juice of something new. Who doesn’t? If you’ve been living in the same apartment for 23 years, isn’t it nice to think about what a new apartment might feel like? Even if the landlord says she’ll put on a fresh coat of paint, the whole thing’s still gonna feel a little stale. Give us some juice!

2. They Build a New Stadium in the Sports Complex

Slightly more exciting, but not by much. Seems like this would be a lot of time and energy just to give us something only marginally better than what we currently have. I guess maybe this one could be a dome, so Philly could be in the mix for Super Bowls and other big events… But even writing that sentence just now, I got bored! Don’t care! Let’s move on to some cooler ideas. 

Still Realistic, But Slightly More Interesting

3. The Navy Yard

Okay, now we’re cooking… Philadelphians have been talking about putting something cool at the Navy Yard for about 3,000 years, so why not actually do it? I like the idea of the stadium being in a place that’s aesthetically nice to look at; this works! The Phils were in San Francisco a couple weeks back, and every time I see McCovey Cove, I’m both awed and jealous. It looks sick! Let’s do our version of that! I wanna see a bunch of hammered Birds fans floating in the Delaware! Don’t even give them kayaks, they get pool noodles! I can see vividly it in my mind: They’re kicking around too much, flailing and squirming and accidentally drinking river water! It’s not a safety hazard! It’ll be fine!

4. Camden Waterfront

Same idea as the previous, but this one is closer to my house (South Jersey rise up…). I think this would rule. In my opinion, people who care whether the Eagles (or any other Philly team) actually plays in Philly are being weird. Who cares? Why would you care? Just because the team name says “Philadelphia,” they have to play within the city limits? The city limits are trivial! Some guy just made them up. This feels like something a baby would care about. You’re saying you’d rather have the Eagles play under the ugly-ass 95-Girard Interchange, for example, than the Camden Waterfront, just because it’s in the city? Camden Waterfront is better! Grow up!

Semi-Realistic, But Not That Interesting to me Personally

5. Wilmington, Delaware

I lived in Wilmington for a year in 2023. I didn’t like it much at all. It’s way farther from Philly than you think it’s gonna be. It should only take, like, twenty minutes to get from Wilmington to South Philly, but the nightmare of 95 would sometimes turn it into an hour-plus drive. In my opinion, this would not be good. But! Gotta imagine Delaware Heads would be hyped on this. All 200 people who live there.

6. King of Prussia

I would never go. It’s simply too far from my house. But I think a lot of people would be excited about this. It’s important to remember that there are all kinds of people in this world. For example, someone out there – maybe even someone reading this blog – went to the Netflix House at KOP and had the time of their lives. To that person, having the Eagles stadium near KOP would probably be pretty sweet. They could go to the mall and put on a VR headset and say “I like your wry attitude” to Dustin from Stranger Things (or whatever happens at the Netflix House, that’s how I picture it), and then go right to an Eagles game. I think that’d be nice for them. 

The Good Stuff: Huge Swings That I Love

7. The Greater Northeast 

I’m from this general area (born in Fox Chase, grew up in Trevose), so this idea is very sentimental and cool to me. I have long wished there was more of a connection between downtown Philly stuff and Greater Northeast life (Without fail, I will talk at you about the long-proposed Northeast Subway and how it’s a crime it doesn’t exist yet after having exactly two beers).

Not to say the Northeast doesn’t have its own unique culture, because it does – but the idea of having the Birds stadium in like, Byberry Industrial Park (bunch of warehouses no one cares about, tons of space, tear it down and build), of thousands of fans having to make the pilgrimage all the way up Roosevelt Boulevard and 95, of tailgaters setting up grills in plain sight of 100 vague-looking warehouses that repair vending machines – fills my heart with joy. The Northeast would become the epicenter of the Philly universe, as it should be. Come pay your respects…

8. Cherry Hill

I believe there’s been a mass psyop over the last ten-ish years in America to make people dislike the suburbs. I love the suburbs. I love being in my car. I love strip malls. I love Cheesecake Factory, Hand & Stone Massage Spas, Apple Stores, and Rally House. And Cherry Hill has it all! What’s to dislike? Cherry Hill is essentially one huge mall. And malls rule! How can we, as a culture, be so collectively enthralled with the 90s, but then be so down on a place like Cherry Hill? You see the hypocrisy here, yes? If you love the 90s, you should want nothing more than to be in Cherry Hill for the rest of your days. So let’s put the stadium here and force everyone to reconsider their brainwashed, negative opinions on the suburbs.

9. Atlantic City 

This is the dream scenario. I love Atlantic City. I am a firm believer in Atlantic City and its (inevitable!) bounce back as one of the premiere cities in the United States. People forget! That’s the other thing I remember, the insane wall of sound in the arena after Giroux barreled into Crosby and then, thirty seconds later, pinged the puck off the post and into the net. For all intents and purposes, the game—and the series—was over.

There is nothing like playoff hockey. The stakes and moment-to-moment excitement are one thing, but what brings the spectacle to another level is the controlled (and uncontrolled) chaos of a sporting event contested by world-class athletes on something as unpredictable as a sheet of ice.

Over the course of a seven-game series, talent will usually win out. But in hockey, lesser teams can ride a hot goalie, tighter checking, and the odd fortunate bounce to gain the upper hand. Anything can happen, and it often does.

Both teams are at organizational crossroads, with the Flyers on the rise and the Penguins annoyingly well-positioned for the post-Crosby era thanks to the work of their president and general manager Kyle Dubas.

I don’t think the Flyers are true Cup contenders. Not this season. Not quite yet.

But I do know this. The Flyers are on the rise. They’re capable of beating the Penguins, just like they did in 2012. The Orange and Black have only won one playoff series since, during the 2020 bubble playoffs that were held in Canada.

It’s time—past time—to win a series and make new memories.

That’s all good and well, but this is a “what have you done for me lately?” world we’re living in, and the Yinzers have only done two things – jack and shit. In fact, the last time any of their teams advanced in the postseason was 2018, when the Penguins defeated the Flyers. In the ensuing seven seasons, they lost four times in a row in the first round before missing the playoffs the next three years.

The Steelers, meantime, have not won a playoff game since Obama’s second term. From 2017-on, they are 0-6 in the postseason and failed to qualify on the three other occasions.

Then there’s the Pirates. Good god! These guys haven’t been to the postseason since 2015, losing the Wild Card game to the Cubs. Since their last World Series in 1979, they have advanced in the playoffs only once, and that was in 2013 when they beat the Reds in the Wild Card before losing 3-2 to the Cardinals in the NLDS.

In the same time period, roughly the winter of 2018 to April of 2026, Philadelphia has five trophies while Pittsburgh has zero playoff wins. And the Riverhounds don’t count. That’s a good team and a quality program, but the USL is the minor leagues. They don’t even have MLS or the NBA in Yinzerville.

The Birds have won two Super Bowls since 2018, and went to a third. They have been one of the NFL’s premier franchises in this time frame.

Villanova Wildcats

The bottom line is that Pittsburgh hasn’t done anything remotely notable in sports in quite some time. Sure, they are a medium/small market that won a bunch of titles back in the day, but nobody REALLY cares about those wins. The Penguins winning the Cup is like the Sacramento Kings winning an NBA title. It’s a feelgood type of story, but not national news. They will tell you that they’ve got legions of fans across the continent, but it’s largely Canadians who like Sidney Crosby and only pretend to care about Pittsburgh itself.

This is indisputable. The facts are the facts. When it comes to sports, there really isn’t anything Pittsburgh does better than Philadelphia at this point.

As I sipped my iced coffee (sometimes McDonalds, sometimes Dunkin’, sometimes La Colombe Cold Brew), I thought about how we as Philly sports fans are looking at these respective playoff series compared to how we’ve looked at the last two Phillies’ playoff series, and even heading into the Eagles’ Wild Card match-up against the 49ers this past January. There were plenty of points during the Flyers’ season where many wrote them off, and I couldn’t really blame them. For me, it was the March 9th game against the New York Rangers, who mollywhopped the Flyers, 6-2, at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Didn’t think they had the moxie to dig down and make a run after that. Of course, they were helped along the way by some legendary choke jobs by the Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets (whose head coach went on a legendary rant that earned him a contract extension), and New York Islanders, but they took full advantage of that. Flyers teams of the last few years wouldn’t have. It brought some special moments on the ice from the end of March through game 81, capping it off with the youngsters delivering a win against the Montreal Canadiens in game 82. The Penguins fans are worried. You can see it. You can hear it. They know the Penguins have to beat the Flyers. The Flyers don’t have to beat the Penguins. They’re nervous.

The thing is… I want the Flyers to win this series. I need it. I don’t want the ride to end yet. It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to watch our team in the playoffs. The NHL Playoffs just hit different. Every year. If the Flyers don’t win it, yeah, I’ll be disappointed. But it won’t be an Eagles or Phillies-like disappointment. And I’ll certainly applaud them for giving us fun for the first time in a long time. I’m not heading into this playoff matchup with any expectations, because this team probably shouldn’t have any placed on them right now. House money, baby. But, man, wouldn’t it be fun to just knock out those guys?

The Sixers, on the other hand, might have even fewer expectations heading into their opening playoff round match-up against the Boston Celtics. They haven’t won a playoff series against the C’s since 1982, and they certainly aren’t favorites to do it this year. They probably would have been underdogs with a healthy Embiid in there, anyway. The Celtics are unfortunately a machine, and even as a No. 2 seed in the East, they might just be the best team in the conference. So, really, any win against the Celtics would be a huge deal. But that’s why they play the games. Why not us? Could Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe usher in a new era for this basketball team? Even if the answer isn’t right now, we still get to see if they have the moxie to dig down and will their team to a competitive series against a current favorite to win the East.

I think a lot of us are heading into these respective playoff series with similar expectations. And when that expectation isn’t at the height of teams like the Eagles and Phillies, that, interestingly enough, makes it fun. Do you remember any time you had fun watching the Phillies-Dodgers series in October? That one game in L.A. was nice, but that was basically a punt game by Dave Roberts. Thank God they actually won that game. But it was just torture to sit through that entire series, pitch by pitch, inning by inning. The Eagles’ loss against the 49ers was just as bad. “Hey, maybe today the offense will suddenly click,” we told ourselves every single week from September on. To be fair, the team deserved our patience after winning another Super Bowl, but it was also mind-numbing that nothing changed week after week after week.

Let’s also not forget about the Union, who won the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2025 and were ousted in the Eastern Conference semis, without even scoring a goal. For that team, the expectations grew throughout the season as they kept stacking up win after win after win. If they had just stunk like everyone thought they would, the playoff loss wouldn’t have stung – probably because they wouldn’t have even been in the playoffs.

This is the first time in a long time the Flyers and Sixers are heading into their respective playoff series with minimal expectations. As the games go on, maybe they’re a play or two away from snatching a victory, but ultimately suffer a heartbreaking defeat. That would suck. But it still wouldn’t feel the same as the Phillies’ recent choke jobs or the Eagles’ embarrassing loss to the 49ers at home.

So, let’s have a good time. We just have to remember we weren’t expecting to be in this position just a few short months ago.

Alshon Jeffery — who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 season — was arrested for insurance fraud earlier this week, TMZ Sports has learned.

Jeffery — who was also busted for conceal/fail to disclose insurance benefit or payment — was booked in jail around 8 AM on Wednesday and has since been released.

Not a lot of details. Context clues suggest this happened in California, as TMZ staff writes – “According to California law, the insurance fraud charge is a felony and can carry up to five years in prison and/or a fine that’s double the amount of the fraud.” Alshon is from South Carolina and played his college ball down there at USC.

I couldn’t find anything in the court records, no dockets or anything. Every state has a different system, which is a pain in the ass.

Somewhat related, this made me think of Wendell Smallwood’s arrest from a few years ago. He also played on the 2017 Super Bowl team and was charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the IRS, based on accusations that he ripped off COVID-19 relief programs. Not sure if you saw the story a few weeks ago, but while serving 18 months on those charges, Smallwood pled guilty to second degree unlawful possession of an assault firearm. That’s according to Chris Franklin at NJ.com.

There’s not much out there yet on Alshon. He was awesome in the 2017 playoff run. He had 12 receptions for 219 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons, Vikings, and Patriots.

The whole thing was a mess. The name “Commanders?” Bad. Sounds like a made-up team in a kids’ movie where they couldn’t get the rights to use a real NFL team. The logo? Bad. Looks like a made-up logo in a kids’ movie where they couldn’t get the rights to use a real NFL logo. The uniforms? Bad. Looks like made-up uniforms in a kids’ movie where they couldn’t get the rights to use real NFL jerseys. And truthfully, I enjoyed that their uniforms were terrible! Whenever I thought about it, I’d smile, and contentedly nod, and tell myself that this was the punishment they deserved by nature of being D.C. fans instead of Birds fans. We were far superior, and that felt pretty good.

Credit where it’s due, they did a good job. Looks like they’re doing a throwback thing by bringing back elements of the Super Bowl-era uniforms from when they were relevant thirty years ago. The internet seems be real into this spear. They are wrong. It is corny. Washington should’ve just reworked the whole thing, started from scratch. The spear could’ve been cool, I guess, but on top of the bad, blocky-looking ‘W,’ the spear feels like a Band-Aid on a concussion. It’s not fixing the problem.

And now here I am, smiling again, thinking about this. Even on a good day for the Commanders, it’s still not all that good.

Basketball team, too, all the playoff stuff, and you want to be part of it. Every single year you see it. So I’m just excited, and it wasn’t just us, I think the whole city was ready to be back in the playoffs. We’re ready.”

It was always going to mean more for TK, who openly lamented the playoff drought earlier this season. It was January 30th, following a 6-3 loss in Boston and a miserable month, when he told reporters “I’ve been through this so many times. I’m tired of missing the playoffs.”

Now he’s playing meaningful hockey for the first time in a long time.

There are two different ways to look back at the drought, because while the Flyers made the postseason back in 2019-2020, it was COVID 19 bubble hockey, played in empty barns with no fans and no real atmosphere.

The real drought, one could argue, goes back seven full seasons, to the 2017-2018 campaign. That’s when the Flyers last played postseason hockey in front of human beings, in a high-energy type of environment. This is what people are really talking about when they say that playoff hockey has finally returned. They’re talking about experiencing it in full, not the lifeless stuff we got in Canada half a decade back.

If you use the 2018 playoff loss as a starting point:

• the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs seven times, went to two Super Bowls, and won SB 59
• the Phillies have qualified for the playoffs four times, and went to a World Series
• the Sixers have qualified for the playoffs six times, (7 times if you include this season)
• the Union have qualified for the playoffs six times, and went to MLS Cup once

If you add it up, that’s 24 or 25 playoff appearances and four championship game appearances in the same time that the Flyers only played COVID hockey.

So obviously it’s gonna mean a lot to TK, and Flyers fans, having to watch all of that unfold, to see the other teams in town enjoy a lot of success while the Flyers struggle. Now it looks like they’re turning the corner with the rebuild and that’s something to be hyped up about.

You can point out that the Sixers are 0-3 in the postseason against their Eastern Conference rival across this era. You can even acknowledge that no Sixers team without Wilt Chamberlain or Julius Erving has ever defeated the Celtics in the playoffs, with the last series win by Philadelphia over Boston occurring in 1982. Or that this year’s iteration of the Celtics cruised to a 56-26 record this season, even while being without Jayson Tatum for the bulk of the season and actively cutting salary to duck the luxury tax in what was expected to be a gap year for the organization. Taking a look at the odds on New Jersey and Pennsylvania sports betting apps certainly does not lead you to believe the Sixers have any sort of chance.

But what is the point of sport without some form of illogical belief?

Paul George was disruptive defensively, Tyrese Maxey led the team with 31 points, and Andre Drummond had arguably the best game of his Sixers career, complete with a dagger three-pointer:

They will now look to carry this momentum into a seven-game series against a much better Celtics team.

What to Know About the Celtics

The Boston Celtics are really good. They are not quite at the level of clear-cut championship favorite that they’ve been in the past few seasons, but are far closer to it than seemed realistically possible coming into the year. Boston finished as the second seed in the Eastern Conference and won just five fewer games than last season despite Tatum playing in only 16 games. 

Joe Mazzula made a clear case why he is one of the best coaches in the league, while Jaylen Brown had an admirable MVP case for himself. The Celtics play a slow style of basketball and are impressive on both sides of the ball. They launch three-pointers at an extremely high rate, ranking fourth in three-point attempts per game, and turn the ball over the fewest times per game in the league. Defensively, the Celtics have held teams to the fewest points per game and rank fourth in defensive rating.

These teams faced off four times during the regular season and split the matchups with two wins apiece. The first three matchups took place on October 22nd, October 31st, and November 11th, with plenty changing since. They most recently faced off on March 1st, which resulted in a 114-98 Celtics win. It’s worth noting that Joel Embiid played in the first two games, of which they went 1-1, and missed the second two.

The Latest With Joel Embiid

Speaking of Embiid, his status will be one of the bigger storylines to keep an eye on. The former MVP officially underwent his emergency appendicitis surgery on April 9th. He was six days removed from surgery during the play-in matchup. Embiid will be 10 days post-surgery by the opening game of this series and 15 days removed when the series returns to Philadelphia for Game 3.

The seven-time All-Star was present on the bench for the play-in victory, and Nick Nurse revealed he attended the team’s film session earlier in the day. There has not been any sort of update from the Sixers about his expected timeline. Embiid deserves more credit for rushing back from injury in the playoffs than he sometimes gets credit, but this is an issue that has to be viewed through a slightly different lens. This is not a broken face that he can wear a protective mask over or knee soreness where pain management is the biggest hurdle. Appendicitis falls more under the medical issue category than injury, and his availability will almost entirely be decided by the doctors.

Appendectomies are not very common in the NBA, so there is not a ton of data to dive into for past examples. According to online injury analyst Jeff Stotts, the average time lost for in-season surgery is 23 days with a median of 18. Despite some outright libel from washed-up hot take artists, there is no world where Embiid has been cleared yet. It frankly feels ambitious to expect to see him again this season, although it would be great to be wrong about this.

Sixers Pathway to Keeping Things Competitive

The saying goes that you live by the three and you die by the three, and no team embodies this as much as the Celtics. Philadelphia ranks 19th in opponents’ three-point attempts allowed and 10th in opponents’ three-point percentage. This is going to be a major part of the matchup in this series, and to some extent, the Sixers will need some poor shooting variance from the Celtics.

One area where the Sixers should have an advantage is in their tempo. The Celtics rank dead last in the league in pace and make a clear effort to make the most of every possession, space the floor, and lock down defensively. Tyrese Maxey has a legitimate case for the fastest player in the entire NBA, and Edgecombe has the young legs and athleticism to run with him. It was a clear priority by the Sixers to push the pace against the Magic, and this same game plan should be carried over against the Celtics. If this game is played in a half-court setting, the Sixers are going to struggle to create reliable offense. But the Celtics will struggle to keep pace with the dynamic Sixers’ backcourt if they can get out on the fast break at a regular rate. Boston’s lack of turnovers is impressive, but I would correlate this more to their slow pace of play and isolation-heavy offense. They rank 27th in assists, and you are going to limit your turnover opportunities in a major way when you aren’t putting the ball at risk.

Rebounding has been a major flaw of this Sixers team, dating back even to last year. Boston has outperformed the Sixers in this category, but their front court lineup of Nikola Vucevic, Neemias Queta, and Luka Garza does not strike the level of fear you would expect for a team of their caliber. Drummond was excellent against the Magic, and Bona had some impressive flashes. However, I would give some real thought to going small in this matchup in an effort to lean into a fast-paced identity. You have to be ready to pull the plug if Boston is having success creating additional possessions, but a five-man unit of Maxey/Edgecombe/George/Oubre/Barlow is as athletic a unit as the team can put out there. It’s also worth noting that Edgecombe led the team with 11 rebounds Wednesday night, and it will be a team effort to attack the glass all series.

It also feels like the return of Tatum has been brushed over a bit from the Celtics’ perspective. Across his 16 games played, he is averaging 21.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists but shooting a career-worst 41.1% from the floor and 32.9% on three-pointers. Tatum does seem like the rare star with the personality to not be overly disruptive, and the Celtics are 13-3 in games that he has played. But anyway you slice it, introducing a six-time All-Star to a team that won 43 games without him is not an easy task. Boston is still talked about like this is the same team that won the championship together two seasons ago, but the reality is three of the top six minutes leaders from last year’s roster are no longer sharing the floor with Tatum from this time a year ago.

Look, the bottom line is the Celtics are massive favorites for a reason, and the Sixers need quite a few breaks to go their direction to have a chance. But the Sixers entered this season with largely empty expectations following last year’s disaster. They’ve earned a playoff opportunity and provided some legitimate storylines for why the fan base should be excited.

This is not a series or postseason that should be viewed through a championship-or-bust lens. There is legitimate value in providing Edgecombe with his first taste of NBA playoff experience, and Maxey will benefit from being asked to be the lead guy against this caliber of team as he has evolved as a player since his last playoff appearance in 2024. In some ways, the context of how this season ends matters more than the results. If this team gets swept in four straight consecutive games where Maxey and Edgecombe look the part of an elite backcourt, that may change the way you approach this offseason. Neither have blinked at the moment, and there will be some long-term positive effects of this experience.

There will be some big-picture conversation when the season concludes about the future of this team. But, for the time being, dig back into the Celtics’ hatred, and allow yourself to believe at least a little bit.

Confused, you say “Phillies” into your remote, and what you see next sends a shiver down your spine: The game is on AppleTV. 

You start to panic. “Do I have AppleTV? I thought I did. Why is it asking me to log in? I should be logged in already. It’s giving me a QR code. Why do I need that? Wait, I gotta type in my password with the Comcast remote? This is going to take like fifteen minutes. It’s so hard to type with the TV remote, it’s so slow…”

Maybe you successfully get the game on, maybe you don’t. Either way, it doesn’t matter. It’s too late. The damage is already done. Your dinner is cold. 

I think we can all agree that it’s a real nightmare trying to follow your teams in the age of streaming. How many streamers are there now? Seven? Twelve? Twenty-six? And every one of them has games now! Wednesday night was a perfect example: The Sixers Play-In game was on Amazon Prime Video – meanwhile, what was on ESPN? Pickleball! Why do we gotta pay for both? How much money are these mega-corporations gonna wring from us? Will it ever end? Who among us will stand tall and put a stop to this? They say that a hero can save us… Is there a hero among us?

Maybe our hero will be Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin, who, in an interview with Andrew Marchand at The Athletic, made it clear that she understands the problem as well as anyone:

“The other thing that has been unifying us recently is absolute frustration about how confusing it is to watch your games and how costly it is to follow your teams and keep up to date with these streaming services and blackouts.”

The third-term Democrat is proposing a bill to end the madness called the “For The Fans” Act:

“If enacted, the new bill would impact the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, WNBA, MLS and NWSL, among other leagues. All nationally televised games involving pro teams from a state would be made available for free statewide, via broadcasting or streaming and on a consistent channel or service. This is similar to the NFL’s policy with TV partners that mandates free local access for fans of participating teams in nationally streamed games, like “Thursday Night Football” airing on Amazon Prime Video.

Another function of the bill would make it so services, like NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA League Pass, MLB.TV and other platforms that offer the majority of games for out-of-market fans would no longer have national blackouts when games appear exclusively on a streaming service requiring an additional fee. For League Pass, as an example, the service, under the bill, would make it so a subscriber would not need Amazon Prime, Peacock or ESPN to watch their team’s games on those networks.

Whether or not this stuff will actually happen, I don’t know. Feels like probably not anytime soon. Seems like laws take a good thirty years to get passed, or they don’t ever get passed, and the idea just kind of just disappears from the news cycle. But! It is nice to see that someone in government is at least recognizing this is a problem! And who knows, maybe it’ll actually work out! Until then, I’d suggest turning the game on first, then, once it’s all set up, heating up your dinner after.

This is what it’s all about. I love this. A 74-year-old man wearing a hat made for 19 year olds, pale jeans that are quite tight, and a sweat-wicking Nike longsleeve, rambling utter nonsense into a microphone. Skip may be losing his mind. It’s awesome. 

I particularly love how he described appendectomies. “Ah… Yeah, well, y’know, they went in there, and ah… It’s easy. Nowadays? They do that sorta thing all the time… They just… put on like this… slot… or… zipper… And, I mean, think about this way: I had an appendectomy. Twice. This week. So… And look at me, here. I’m back to normal. I’m mobile. I went to Lids this morning and bought this hat. No problemo…” (paraphrasing)

Truly wish this clip went longer. I’d like to hear more about how Skip thinks surgery works. I also really like the part at the end of the video where Nick Young goes, “I didn’t know that, that’s…” and just kind of peters out. So good. 

Anyway, if we try taking this claim seriously, I think it goes without saying that Skip is incredibly wrong here. Joel just had surgery seven days ago. His job is to slam into a bunch of other very strong professional athletes for about an hour a night. Gotta imagine he’s got some sort of wound that requires healing. Bandages. Soreness. Limited mobility. Etc. I may not know as much about modern medicine as Skip, but I think this response tweet summed it up nicely:

Comcast Spectacor and the Philadelphia 76ers have decided on a precise location in the South Philadelphia sports complex for their new arena, which will also host the Flyers and an as-yet unnamed WNBA team.

The new stadium will be located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, right next to SEPTA’s Broad Street Line, which serves the sports complex.

It’s essentially the spot where the Spectrum used to be, which I think we already knew, right? There wasn’t any other spot to build this thing inside of the sports complex anyway. You’ve got Citizens Bank Park, Xfinity Mobile Arena, and Lincoln Financial Field in the other parcels, so this thing goes into the spot closest to the subway exit and then they’ll eventually demolish the old hockey and basketball arena at some point after 2030.

The Comcast-Spectacor development starts with the expanded Stateside Live!, which opens next month. They’re gonna build up the western side of the sports complex, between Broad and 11th, which connects retail to the new arena. The model for all of this is Atlanta’s mixed-use Battery complex, which has been mentioned a bunch of times by Dan Hilferty and city officials and was toured by Cherelle Parker and others a few years ago.

On the other side of 11th, you have the Phillies, who are connected with the Flyers and Sixers on the redevelopment. The Eagles have not joined the effort, and they’ve given little to the media when asked about their plans for Lincoln Financial Field when the lease expires.

There’s also been chatter about developing into the Navy Yard and Bellwether District, but nothing officially official on either of those fronts.

Do Penguins fans view the Flyers as crybabies? I don’t get this. They’re clearly projecting, right? Because their signature player for the last two decades is notorious for being the biggest crybaby in hockey (and maybe in all of sports?). “Traffic cone unis” is objectively nuts. I feel like it’s widely accepted that the Philadelphia Flyers have some of the best jerseys/logo/colors/merch in all of sports. I’m pretty certain of this. This is not a homer take. Believe we all agree.

Anyway, there are plenty more comments just like this on the Penguins subreddit, if you’d like to hop on over there and get more mad. At the end of the day, I just feel bad for the Australian. He’s not getting a balanced, nuanced perspective. I fear he may be led astray. Maybe Flyers fans should jump in there and offer some counterpoints? Respectfully, of course. Something to think about.

Now the Sixers face a familiar foe in the Boston Celtics, who are 3-0 against Philly in the playoffs since the end of the Process era. They didn’t have Jayson Tatum for a large portion of the season, but they didn’t skip a beat, going 56-26 and finishing 6-1 in April.

Do the Sixers have a chance against Boston without Joel Embiid? So you throw the records out the door and hope that the Sixers battle long enough and keep this series alive long enough to give Embiid a chance to return from appendicitis surgery. He underwent the procedure one week ago today, and while there’s been no established timeline for return, all of the doctors on social media, real and fake, are handing out timelines of 2-3 and 2-4 weeks for recovery.

Looking at the schedule for the series, which begins Sunday at 1 p.m., Embiid would clear the two-week hurdle by the time game 3 is played in Philadelphia on Friday, April 24th. If he needs three full weeks, he’s missing games one through five, and maybe six, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 30th. This thing might be over by then.

Zack Wheeler made his fourth rehab start on Tuesday night for the Reading Phils in Somerset, NJ. He tossed 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs, and striking out nine batters on 72 pitches. Two of those three earned runs were not “allowed” by Wheeler, but he was responsible for them.

It’s weird to watch April baseball with no Zack Wheeler. That feeling shouldn’t last much longer.

“Yeah, he said he felt really good about it (his start), and he feels good today,” Rob Thomson said pregame on Wednesday. “Normal after a start. That was good news, so we’re still on line for Sunday.”

Wheeler will make what could be his final rehab start for Reading on Sunday in Somerset. He’ll throw 90 pitches, the closest he’s gotten to a normal start yet. After that, it’ll be up to the Phillies, but also Wheeler himself. Rob Thomson noted a few days back that when a veteran pitcher like Wheeler goes on a rehab assignment, a lot of it is up to the pitcher himself. The Phillies trust Zack Wheeler. They know he won’t rush himself back onto the mound. He, and the coaching staff, know that the Phillies need Wheeler if they want to make a run at a World Series. July-October means a lot more than April.

If any team in baseball lost a pitcher like Wheeler, they’d be in deep trouble. The Phillies are an outlier. They still have one of the best group of starters in the league, even without the 3-time runner up Cy Young. The rotation, as a whole, is 4th in the league in strikeouts, yet, 21st in ERA. Some of that has to do with Taijuan Walker’s 1st-inning struggles, and some has to do with a couple blow-up innings from Jesus Luzardo. But the last 31 days, as a whole, has been a success for the rotation with the absence of Wheeler.

Cristopher Sanchez is almost there. He’s not in the groove that he was last year just yet, but the team is confident that he’ll get back there. Aaron Nola hasn’t been perfect, but it’s a major improvement from last April. Jesus Luzardo has struggled with the blow-up inning, but has flashed serious strikeout stuff once again. Andrew Painter has looked the part for just three starts as a rookie.

Other Phillies Notes:

• Zach Pop went on the 15-day IL on Wednesday (retro to 4/13) with a right calf strain. Thomson said Pop was doing agility drills in the outfield before Tuesday’s game and felt something in his calf.
• Kyle Backhus was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to replace Pop. Backhus struggled to start the season, but tossed three scoreless innings with five strikeouts for the Iron Pigs.
• Wednesday is just a normal day-off for Justin Crawford, nothing injury related. Thomson wanted to get him off of his feet for a day, with an addition to the off-day on Thursday. Crawford is 1 for his last 12 at the plate.

“Tailgating basically is a real integral part of U.S. sports culture, and it involves turning up early for American football games, for instance, and having a party in the car park outside the stadium, eating and drinking hours before the game starts. On a more educational note, the reason tailgating isn’t a thing in Europe is largely because they take mass transit to games. They don’t drive and park in these huge lots. Oftentimes they’ll gather at local pubs or restaurants or city squares and have a drink or two, or three, and then proceed on foot. I was in London years ago and while the EPL was in its offseason, we did the Arsenal stadium tour and you just take the London Tube right to the foot of the venue and get off. Imagine if 95% of people took the Broad Street Line to an Eagles game and that’s basically what it’s like over there.

If it were up to me, I’d go ahead and completely remove that as a possibility right now: 

I hereby formally submit that the Sixers should openly, proudly tank the play-in games.

Please don’t be mad at me; hear me out. My case for why this makes sense breaks down into three sections: The Practical Argument, The Emotional Argument, and the Big-Picture Statement Argument. Let’s get into it:

Let’s try to get that top-four protected pick (The Practical Argument)

Here’s a very simple way to look at this year’s pick situation: all 14 NBA teams that don’t make the playoffs get entered into the lottery draft. Play-in games don’t count as the playoffs, so if the Sixers were to lose both games, they’d be in the lottery. However, as a lingering gut-punch from the 2020 Al Horford salary dump (lol), the Sixers’ 2026 first round pick belongs to OKC — but is top 4 protected! So if the Sixers lose both play-in games, they have a chance at a top four player in the draft. A very small percentage chance, but still!

According to Tankathon, teams 13 and 14 have less than a 5% chance at a top four pick, which is around the same percentage chance of beating either Boston or Detroit in round one without Joel Embiid. It’s probably not happening! Gimme a shot at the pick instead! Why not?

Are you mad at me yet? Don’t be mad, I still have two more arguments here. These ones are good, you’ll like these ones.

Imagine actually having to sit down and watch these Sixers lose a full playoff series (The Emotional Argument)

Sadly, if the Sixers win the play-ins, they will have to play at least four games against either the Celtics or Pistons. They cannot forfeit. The games must be played, they will be televised, and we (I imagine if you’re reading this, you suffer from the same sickening compulsion toward this team as I do), will have to watch it. 

Who wants that? Not me! We’re gonna get smoked! Imagine all the time that’d be spent watching this beatdown. Four games is like, what, 10ish hours? 10ish hours! Of Andre Drummond being unable to jump! Of Tyrese Maxey running on fumes after playing a billion minutes and cradling his mangled finger during timeouts! Of poorly-acted Cure Auto Insurance commercials! Of Kate Scott excitedly screaming after a Kelly Oubre dunk (something like “The Kellster Junior just made himself Franz Wagner’s senior!) that means nothing and ultimately will not matter!

I, for one, would be glad to not have to endure this. But to be clear, I don’t just want to lose. I want to choose to lose. There’s empowerment there! There’s agency! We are choosing our emotional well-being! 

And, maybe most importantly, this choice would be making a statement. 

Tanking the play-in as a form of righteous protest (The Big-Picture Statement Argument)

We all know that tanking – and, more generally, players not playing despite being healthy – is an epidemic in the NBA. This is extremely top of mind for me because I was in the championship of my fantasy basketball league last week, and was forced to watch on in horror as 90% of my roster, at some point, was listed as unavailable. Even now, when I close my eyes, I’m haunted by visions of the big red ESPN App font reading OUT beside Pascal Siakam’s head.

(NOTE: I still won the championship. Back-to-back champ. Third title since 2018. I won this year by one assist! Tradition of excellence!) 

The players simply do not play in enough of the games, and in my opinion… it’s a disgrace! I truly believe this! It’s one of my biggest old guy-isms, but really can’t stand it. I want to watch the good players play basketball! Isn’t that what we all want? It certainly doesn’t seem like Adam Silver wants that! 

And that’s the crux of the issue: The buck stops with Adam. Maybe I’m out of line here, but I believe the NBA Commissioner should care about the NBA product. And he can talk all he wants, but his actions (expansion in the midst of this mess!) undoubtedly show he doesn’t. 

So what can we do? How do we make our voices heard? How can we sound the alarm for this league we love, and declare that we’re tired of popping on national NBC games to see a 40-point blowout in the third quarter played by 80% two-way guys? 

We wholeheartedly and unabashedly tank the play-in game! We publicly embarrass Adam, in the very play-in format that he created (a dumbass format no one cares about, another Adam failure)! We run out a ridiculous team on national TV! I want Adem Bona bringing the ball up! I want David Adelman guarding Paolo Banchero! I want Franklin the Dog standing on a folding chair under the opposing basket and swatting all of our shots away with a broomstick! Sorry Adam, you’ve left us no choice!

So yeah, those are my three arguments for tanking these play-in games. I think I made some pretty good points there. Please don’t be pissed at me.

Kinkead: I will actually give you a fourth option. Tank the FIRST game, then try to win the SECOND one. I’d take my chances against a less-experienced Detroit team vs. having to lose to Boston again.

Zay-gras? Is he Trevor Zegras’ cousin? Kinda makes it hard to believe you hate a guy if you can’t actually pronounce his name. I looked up this Chris Mueller dude and he has us blocked on social, so one of the Kyles must have gone after him back in the day.

I would have liked to hear more about why Poni hates Flyers fans, but they cut the clip off when it was just getting good. Oh well.

The Garnet Hathaway line I find pretty interesting. Do fans of opposing teams really hate Hathaway? Do they see him as a “fourth line jobber?” I recall the Zach Werenski knee-on-knee hit from a few years ago that led to the $5,000 fine, and the elbow on Joel Eriksson Ek, but beyond that Hathaway’s list of fines includes more embellishment than anything. He plays a high-energy game and he’s laid some big hits on guys, but not sure what the threshold is for being considered a “dirty” player or not. He can be a pest but he had the same amount of penalty minutes as Travis Konecny this season, and fewer than Trevor Zay-gras.

You would think that most of the animosity in this series is just general Philly vs. Pittsburgh fan stuff. There are only a couple of Flyers who played in that 2018 series against the Penguins, and that’s Coots and TK, who were 25 and 20 years old at the time (EDIT – actually Sanheim, too, he was 21 and a rookie). The squads are mostly new other than the veteran holdovers like Crosby, Malkin, Letang etc. The energy is going to be great but there isn’t much meaningful history with this overall group of players.

What do you think Pittsburgh sports talk radio is like, anyway? Is it Steelers all the time? Surely they don’t have to talk about the Pirates. That would be terrible for the hosts.

As sensational as the hard-throwing lefty was in a breakthrough 2025, this season’s start has been just as dreadful.

That’s not what the Phillies want to hear after the Chicago Cubs battered their bullpen for the second consecutive day. Monday, it didn’t matter. Kyle Schwarber homered twice in a 13-7 win. The Cubs scored 5 runs after Cristopher Sanchez left. Tuesday, the bullpen imploded, turning a 3-3 game into a 10-4 loss. Aaron Nola wasn’t great — he lost an early 3-0 lead — but he was better than what came next. For the non-math majors, the Cubs have scored 12 runs off Phillies relievers.

Can Luzardo get back to his dominant ways and help the Phillies (8-9) win the series and get back to .500?

Here is exactly why we are smashing the over: The Cubs are currently an absolute dream for total chasers, hitting the over in a whopping 70% of their last 10 games. They’re averaging an impressive 5.38 runs per game on the road. Meanwhile, the Phillies manage to scrap together 4.64 runs per game in their own ballpark. Put those offensive averages together, and you easily clear the 8.5 threshold.

Even if Luzardo recovers his 2025 form — or lifetime form vs. the Cubs — at some point the bullpen will be asked to throw zeroes. Good luck.

The Phillies’ pitching staff is sporting a generous 4.62 collective ERA, and it is incredibly hard to envision a drama-free, low-scoring affair. If there is one guy in this lineup who looks like he actually wants to be at the ballpark, it is the perpetually damp Brandon Marsh. While several of his high-priced teammates have spent the early weeks of the season trying to remember which end of the bat to hold, Marsh has quietly put together a very respectable .305 batting average. He has already tallied 18 hits in his 59 at-bats, making him one of the few reliable options in this lineup. Asking your most consistent contact hitter to scrape together one knock is a perfectly reasonable request. At -173 on DraftKings, we fully expect Marsh to find a gap and cash this ticket.

It’ll go down in the history books as a 98 point season for the Flyers, their highest total since 2017-2018, when they went into the playoffs with 42 wins.

For Michkov, it’s a 20 goal, 31 assist season amounting to 51 points. That’s a dip from the 63-point rookie season, but there are a few caveats to consider:

• Michkov played fewer minutes this season, just 1,202.04 of total ice time. That’s down from the 1,334.45 he played his first season. He averaged 14:50 TOI across 81 games this season and 16:41 TOI over 80 games last year.
• His post-Olympic break production was very good. Between February 25th and April 14th, he scored 7 goals and 15 assists, which amounts to 43.1% of his total points. He scored 35% of his goals and logged 48% of his assists after the rest period.
• He spent a portion of the season playing on the left wing, despite John Tortorella and previous coaches using him on the right.
• Michkov was used on the power play less frequently – 174 minutes this year and 224 last year, according to the Sportradar data.

All told, when you look back at the “came into camp out of shape” storyline, the summer ankle injury, and the initial rockiness with Rick Tocchet, you have to feel pretty good about how Michkov’s regular season ended. The Olympic break was always going to be a key moment in his sophomore season, and while he still made some mistakes in February, March, and April, his point production picked up and he really looked much more like the player we saw in year one. The break served him well, and he looks to be in better shape and playing a more consistent and responsible game.

Now he’s got an opportunity to finish even stronger with a good series against the Penguins. It’ll be big time hockey for a young kid, and a great test against some savvy old vets in Crosby and Malkin and Letang and all those geriatric dudes in Pittsburgh.

Most importantly, it looks like we’re over the fitness hump and the year 2 backslide and hopefully the toughest part of Michkov’s career is in the past.

You’re probably wondering why I did this. The answer, and I’m sorry if this disappoints you, is simply: I don’t know. Wasn’t even a thought. Just felt right. But now look how it paid off! I got tons and tons of Phil wisdom here at my disposal! Like this one:

If I try to investigate and understand what it is exactly about these posts that I love so much, two reasons come to mind: The first is: I appreciate the effort Phil is putting in here. It would be easy for Phil to just Google “wise quotes to make me sound like a wise elder statesman,” and copy and paste whatever he finds into his Story. But I don’t think that’s what’s happening here! These feel original! If not the sentiments themselves, then the wording of them, at the very least! –

The second reason I think I enjoy these posts so much: Phil is the nicest guy ever, and this stuff coming from him makes the whole thing work. If these Stories were coming from a guy who was a notorious d-bag, they wouldn’t register at all. It’d be phony as hell, and probably pretty annoying. But the exact opposite is going on here. It’s Phil’s cool-guy-ness that makes these IG stories something to appreciate.

(Some context: I was a sports editor of the school paper when I went to Saint Joe’s, which meant I got to cover the men’s basketball team and interview Phil sometimes. And he’s the nicest guy ever! One time I was interviewing him on the phone, and I was nervously stumbling through some dumbass question that didn’t matter, and I wasn’t getting the wording right, and I muttered something like, “Just one more question here, Phil, I don’t wanna waste too much of your time.” And he cut me off and sternly said, “Hey. This is not a waste of my time.” What a nice guy! Way nicer than he had to be to 19-year-old me! I almost certainly was wasting his time!)

I’m trying! I will! In fact, in the spirit of the above wise quote from Phil, I’m going to free myself from the self-imposed limitation of the Blog Format. My gut says I’m supposed to say something about every single screenshot I have for the rest of this article — but that’s a self-imposed prison! According to Phil, I should unshackle myself from this burden! And I will, right now!

A ton of outlets are carrying this report, everyone from Fox News to Yahoo Sports and blah blah etc, though it doesn’t seem to have originated from a press release or conference. One of these writeups cites a guideline from a checklist at the Boston website that matches what Eagles Nation put in their tweet:

No Tailgating per FIFA policy: Please note that the traditional “tailgating” (eating and drinking around parked cars) is not permitted for these events per FIFA policy.

For what it’s worth, I can’t find this same line anywhere on the Philly World Cup site. There doesn’t appear to be a stadium FAQ published, at least not yet.

The FIFA statement seems to leave the decision up to local authorities, and tailgating has always been allowed at the South Philly sports complex. So there should be no restrictions from “host city public safety authorities.” We’ve handled huge events and concurrent events for decades now, including big exhibition soccer games, so I can’t imagine what would be different this time around. It seems like FIFA really wants to push these fan zones and hospitality packages and do things their way, which is to be expected.

But one of the great things about having the World Cup here was the thought of walking around and chopping it up with people of different cultures, from different parts of the world. I’m trying to get some of that Ivorian food when they play here in the summer, maybe mix it up with the Brazil fans before that 9 p.m. Friday night game. FIFA is seemingly coming in here with different rules that are more restrictive than what we’re used to, but the bottom line is that tailgating is a big cultural thing over here, and they should respect the way we like to do things, the same way they respected South African Vuvuzelas back in 2010. We had to listen to the BUZZZZZZ BUZZZZZZZ during every friggin game back then as Sepp Blatter explained to us that Africa moves to “a different rhythm” than everyone else. In this case, our rhythm is drinking beer and eating hotdogs in a piss-soaked parking lot, so leave us be and respect the culture.

We’re supposed to get a full rundown of the guidelines soon, for instance – can we just go to Stateside Live! and hang out there? Or do we need a game ticket to get inside the Linc perimeter? Questions like that should be answered soon enough. There’s an entire World Cup 2026 Philly committee sending out press releases and whatnot.

That’s Jeff Skversky and Keith Jones in there, not the Flyers’ President, “Jonesy,” but the NBC 10 anchor. Tom Winter from NBC investigations is part of the group, and former Villanova Wildcat Kevin Rafferty, too.

Thinking about what led to this moment truly filled me with joy. Johnny and all 19 identical fellas (spanning from ages 24 to 56) hopping on an Amtrak Acela (they booked an entire car), rolling their suitcases filled only with identical button-up shirts to Times Square, neatly piling the suitcases off to the side so they wouldn’t be in the picture, and posing for this wonderful photo. Look at all those logos behind them! Those beautiful logos and ads in bright lights! But the party didn’t stop there: All 26 guys who each look exactly like John Clark but are slightly different heights were only just getting started. 

It’s not a NYC bachelor party unless you see Jim Gaffigan with 34 of your closest buddies:

“Give us the longest table you have. If you don’t have a tablecloth long enough, we can use two and have them connect in the middle, then put a candle there to pin it down. Pinning down the cloths is no problem for us.”

It’s not a night out in NYC without a photo of the skyline! It’s not the clearest photo, sure. Looks like John didn’t click down on the screen to focus that yellow box over the buildings or anything. But that’s okay! The idea comes across just the same. Looking at this photo there can be no doubt: This is New York!

Gotta throw John’s picture up on the TVs at the club! My only problem with this picture is that I wish everyone would stop dancing and turn to look at the TVs. What are they doing? Cut the music! It’s John!

There’s no way to know for sure, but I think this is a photo of Jim Gaffigan. (Remember, we saw on the second photo that these 38 fellas went to – or at the very least, were near – a Jim Gaffigan show). My guess here is that John was probably shaking while laughing so hard at Gaffigan, and that’s why this photo is also blurry. Which is fine! At his bachelor party, I don’t want John focused on something as boring as clicking down on the screen so that yellow box allows the camera lens to focus. I want John belly-laughing at Jim Gaffigan! Or whichever pale comedian or public speaker this may be!

Finally, to cap off the trip, here we have someone bobbing up and down with a sign saying “I can’t believe she said yes.” I can! John rules! I genuinely mean this! Super nice guy, excellent at his job, and he somehow hasn’t aged in 30 years! 

In summary, a big heartfelt congrats to John and his bride-to-be. It’s nice to see him out there having fun, he deserves it. And shoutout to John’s 53 identical buddies that helped him make his bachelor party a great time.

A GAME-CHANGING DESTINATION: WHAT’S NEW

The expansion comes on the heels of Philadelphia-based Stateside Brands coming on as the venue’s new title partner this past fall. The upgrades will transform Stateside Live! into a dynamic indoor–outdoor entertainment destination, designed to host everything from casual gatherings and dynamic game-day activations to large-scale concerts, festivals, and private events for up to 5,000 guests. Stateside Live! is now the only destination in the city where fans can choose to watch the game indoors with a high-energy, stadium-inspired atmosphere or outside under the open sky with the same immersive viewing experience.

New elements of the plaza expansion include:

AVA Rooftop Bar

The new Stateside Live! will open at 5 p.m. on May 29th and features a free concert with Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, and Bayside. That’s pretty sick. Taking Back Sunday had some bangers back in the day and the support of Millennials from here to California. I’m gonna end up having to take my wife to this show, which I think might be her 17th or 18th Taking Back Sunday gig. In addition to that show, there’s a DJ performance on Saturday, May 30th, from LA-based “Two Friends.” Never heard of ’em, but apparently they’ve headlined some big festivals before, which is dope.

Not sure if you recall what this thing was supposed to look like when they opened it more than 15 years ago, but the original design featured a much larger building, and now this expansion is much closer to what they originally envisioned back in 2008.
