Sorry its been a couple months but we have been so busy and the time has been flying by! Bo is doing FANTASTIC! He has officially made himself quite a home here! He loves chasing our one cat, haha...never harms her or even seems aggressive, it is more of a game. He loves everyone and every single person to walk in our house falls in love with him instantly and develops a new best friend the rest of the night if they start petting him, LOL. He had a great Christmas! (a stocking full of presents and the extended family brought him gifts as well). I took him to the vet about a week ago to have his nails trimmed and so they could enter him in their database and they all said he was such a well behaved boy (he got a nice rawhide when he left.) The vet thinks he looks outstanding. I give you all so much credit for getting him healthy and ready for us. We are in love with him he will live a happy and long life in our home; at least I know we will do everything in our power! I just wanted to again thank you for him. He's everything we ever wanted in a dog and I will continue to send you updates and pictures periodically if you would like. Skylar was picked up in a rural county in North Alabama as an injured stray and placed in a high kill shelter. We are unsure how many days he was injured prior to being picked up. Rescuers will never know if a hunter mistook him for a coyote or was he simply searching for something to eat and was shot by a cruel person. <br /> This poor sweet dog was noticed sitting in the shelter with a terrible shoulder wound and swollen front leg, suffering, in pain, yet still wagging his tail when anyone passed by his cage. He was named Skylar for his brilliant blue eyes and taken to an animal hospital for treatment. He is a young male Siberian Husky who was already neutered and estimated to be just over a year old.<br /> <br /> From the moment rescue hands touched him, his EXCEPTIONAL gentle and loving personality melted the hearts of every person who has come in contact with him. Sadly, Skylar's wound was from a gunshot and the only recourse was to amputate his front leg. A wonderful and giving donor stepped up to pay his veterinary bills and Skylar is now recovering very nicely in the home of the rescuer who found him in the shelter. Skylar has obviously been someone's precious pet but he had no tags or microchip and no owner was located. <br /> <br /> It was noticed immediately that Skylar was already housebroken! He is terrific around any other dogs AND CATS! Skylar is extremely well behaved and loves to go for a ride in a vehicle. He walks on a leash as though he has been trained. This baby has obviously been living in a home before and loves to sprawl out on the couch or bed next to you. He prefers to just be by someone but is good as gold when he is left resting in his recovery bedroom :)<br /> Skylar still has his stitches from surgery but they will be taken out in just a couple of days. He is healing fast and he can go up and down a flight of stairs with no problem at all. He has learned to adapt to having 3 legs so quickly that it is as though the horrible ordeal that he went through never happened. Skylar was tested for heartworms and was negative. He will come to you completely vetted and ready to love you. <br /> <br /> Skylar needs a very loving forever home that will understand his disability but more importantly, will give him the same love that he gives back to everyone around him. His foster mom trusts this dog 100% around children and has pictures of her 1 1/2 yr old grand-daughter hugging Skylar because of his "boo-boo" she can see. Rowdy is a very happy puppy. He never leaves our side... ever. He is a wonderful companion. So thoughtful and caring, excellent in doggie school. He is so smart! He has tricks he does when he wants to show off like... sit, paw, crawl, lay, roll-over, fetch, wait and he is very protective of his kids. He helps me pull the big jogging stroller and you would think it was his calling in life. We want to train him to pull a cart. It would definitely help us in the garden as well.<br /> <br /> He is really mellow and gentle. He loves his rubber ducky toys (they are rubber duckies for children from bath and bodyworks, they are the only chew proof toys I have found that he likes). They are his little friends. <br /> <br /> We did some breed research and we think he is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Swiss_Mountain_Dog or most likely a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entlebucher_Sennenhund because of his docked tail.<br /> <br /> The kids love their puppy, they are best pals. As for me and Dad, he is our little baby boy. He sleeps at the side of our bed every night and is always under my feet. He is my little shadow. He is very good with the big rabbits but he likes to go after the babies. We are working on that. We brought one of the baby's cages in to the kitchen so he can get used to them and learn not to want to eat them. We kept Rowdy's name Rowdy, even though he is quite the opposite. He is such a wonderful boy! He has adjusted VERY well and he just loves every bit of attention and love we give him. He plays with Cricket and our FARM friend Leroy (is his BEST doggie pal). He has taken a special liking to my husband Mike, they are inseparable. Up until yesterday, (he started some symptoms of kennel cough)they go everywhere together. As soon as Mike is up, Rowdy is right by his side. He comes to me for the loving and training. I always have a pocket full of either liver treats or a bag of chopped up hot dogs. He knows... sit and off(thanks to his foster momma), he just started shake paws, go pee and Let's go! Our dog trainer is smitten too. He is better with house training, he keeps any accidents by the back door. The first week or so He slept in Mike's arms on the couch. Now, he sleeps next to our bed at night. He LOVES playing in our back yard. He is spunky with the rabbits but doesn't hurt or spook them and the kids are completely in-love with him. He even lets them do commands with treats. <br /> <br /> <br /> He goes to see the Vet on Tuesday. I just hope he will get over this cough quickly. Yesterday, he was so sick, hacking and spitting up mucous. All he wanted was me. Even when we went out, he would just lean on me or stay next to me. Today, he is back to being a puppy. I think he must have a good immune system because I did not expect him to be running around so much. I did some online research and will keep him away from other dogs.<br /> <br /> <br /> My father fell in-love with Cricket and wanted to take her for a couple weeks to see if maybe we were just mismatched or if she really had serious behavior problems. She has been at my parents since Friday and he said she is at his hip and is showing signs of trusting him. I am surprised because men seem to be a big trigger for her fearful behavior. My Dad is a big 'ole gentle softy, he may be just what Cricket needs. I really think our house was just to chaotic for her. It was really hard for me, since she wouldn't let anyone but Rowdy and I near her. He takes her on his 5 mile walk everyday and she walks very well on the leash. He is very impressed. I hope it goes well, I don't want to see her go thru another family AGAIN. I hope she is happy with Dad, He is getting close to retirement and all his little birds left the nest, this could be really good for him. I didn't tell Mary Ellen yet, I need to keep her informed. Cricket has a little cough and will be headed into the Vet as well.Terri, I can't thank you enough for saving Rowdy! Thank you for setting a good foundation for training him. It seems you have made our job so much easier. We love him SO much and I get a big lump in my throat just thinking about how much better our family... our life is, with him in it. We spoke on the phone before you decided to adopt him. I was at Mary Ellen's for load out of another group of our dog/puppies yesterday, Friday. Mary Ellen and Robin were talking about Cricket and of course I was anxious to know how Rowdy was fitting into your lifestyle. Both ladies assured me he was doing well adjusting and being a good boy. I guess I just wanted reassurance he was everything I told you. I think I had evauluated him fairly. Jill, I just want to know what you think. You are a kind compassionate person and I appreciate the time you have given to Cricket and taken away from you little ones. I am truly sorry Cricket is so needy some dogs just are that way. But girl hold your head up high...YOU have done everything right. Between you &amp; I, I don't think she was socialized enough as a young pup and became fearful of unknown noises, people, etc. I think our rescue needs to look at how we failed her.
