Memorial Day

The church office will be closed on Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day.

VBS Online Registration

Follow the VBS registration link on our website (www.crossroadsbaptist.org) to register your family for VBS. Complete the online form for your first child and it will ask if you want to register another child at the same address. It will even store your info so that next year you won’t have to re-enter your data, just click and register.

Hot Dog Lunch

We will have a hot dog sale to benefit the Guatemalan mission trip on June 1st from 10 am – 2 pm. Take-Out only. Plates are $5 and delivered to your office. Included in your hot dog plate will be 2 hot dogs, condiments, chips, cookie, and your choice of beverage. Additional hot dogs are available  for $2 each. Hot dog toppings are relish, coleslaw, chili, ketchup and mustard. Beverage choices are Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and water. Carnival & Silent Auction

On June 2nd from 10 am until 2 pm, we will have a kids carnival & silent auction to benefit our Guatemalan mission trip. Lunch also available. Dessert donations needed. The carnival will be from 10 am until 2 pm  and will include bounce castles, an obstacle course, face painting, balloon making, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and water balloons. The auction will be from 12 pm until 2 pm. Prizes include a gas grill, Biltmore tickets, original artwork & much more. Prices are: $2 Wristbands for outdoor fun, $5 Tickets to indoor auction and $1 for each additional auction ticket. All proceeds benefit Missions for Crossroads Baptist Church & True Life Christian Fellowship.

Pastor Search Team

Our Pastor Search Team consists of Jerry Gaines, Sheila Jennings, Roy Gardner, Josh Threatt, and Stacey Estes. Please know that our job is to represent you, the church family, and we welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Families are encouraged to join together this Friday evening, May 18th at McMillan Park in Boiling Springs for a time of fun and fellowship. Bring a picnic supper or your favorite drive thru meal and meet us at 6:30 pm at this beautiful park located at 591 McMillan Blvd.

Field Prep Day

There will be a church-wide work day this Saturday, May 19th from 8 am until noon. We will be preparing the field areas for VBS and Mega Sports. Projects will include spreading mulch on the playground, weed eating the tall grass on the hill, clearing limbs and trash, and general maintenance. Come out at 8 am with your weed eater, wheel barrel, rakes or shovels ready to pour out some TLC on the amazing field area the Lord has blessed us with.

The following is published by Thom Rainer, President and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources, “The Ten Warning Signs of an Inwardly Obsessed Church”:

“Any healthy church must have some level of inward focus. Those in the church should be discipled. Hurting members need genuine concern and ministry. Healthy fellowship among the members is a good sign for a congregation. But churches can lose their outward focus and become preoccupied with the perceived needs and desires of the members. The dollars spent and the time expended can quickly become focused on the demands of those inside the congregation. When that takes place the church has become inwardly obsessed. It is no longer a Great Commission congregation.

In my research of churches and consultation with churches, I have kept a checklist of potential signs that a church might be moving toward inward obsession. No church is perfect; indeed most churches will demonstrate one or two of these signs for a season. But the real danger takes place when a church begins to manifest three or more of these warning signs for an extended period of months and even years.

1. Worship Wars. One or more factions in the church want the music just the way they like it. Any deviation is met with anger and demands for change. The order of service must remain constant. Certain instrumentation is required while others are prohibited.

2. Prolonged minutia meetings. The church spends an inordinate amount of time in different meetings. Most of the meetings deal with the most inconsequential items, while the Great Commission and Great Commandment are rarely the topics of discussion.

3. Facility focus. The church facilities develop iconic status. One of the highest priorities in the church is the protection and preservation of rooms, furniture, and other visible parts of the church’s buildings and grounds.

4. Program driven. Every church has programs even if they do not admit it. When we start doing a ministry a certain way, it takes on programmatic status. The problem is not with programs. The problem develops when the program becomes an end instead of a means to greater ministry.

5. Inwardly focused budget. A disproportionate share of the budget is used to meet the needs and comforts of the members instead of reaching beyond the walls of the church.”
