We run I>T classes,Art Group,Keep Fit, Tai Chi, Reflexologyand a Hairdresser, and outings and entertainers. You get all this for £13p.a , plus companionship and a lovely hot lunch for an extra £4. A new Sat-Nav guide that pinpoints all the movie scenes shot in the UK has been launched to coincide with the Christmas break.

The 6,000+ scenes in the Sat-Nav guide have been built up over 8 years of research by Famouslocations.com and can be viewed on their web-site along with the rest of their huge database covering Europe and US.

"We're always looking for ways to improve people's journeys and this product does just that", said Daniel Taylor, managing director of RoadTour, developers of the product. "This is a simply huge amount of movie content, and with this product, people can enjoy it on the move. It's truly fascinating to turn it on and realise that just a few hundred metres away a movie scene was shot. Not only does this connect us with our surroundings but also with our movie heritage."

The guide is a simple software download that is easily installed on a range of leading Satellite Navigation devices. It enables anyone to quickly pinpoint the nearest movie locations and then easily read more concerning specific movies and locally shot scenes.

LOCAL SCHOOLS TAKE THE INITIATIVE PROVIDING COUNSELLING FOR THEIR PUPILS

Many teenagers find that their emotions are difficult to deal with especially when there is family breakdown. Parents often find the behaviour and moodiness of their children difficult to understand and respond to appropriately while the teenager feels unheard, misunderstood or isolated. Teachers too recognise the way a difficult home life undermines pupils’ performance at school and in exams.

Two local schools, The Oasis Academy and Bensham Manor Special School have taken steps to provide counselling for their pupils. They have been working with Relate, experienced in relationship counselling, to extend this service to young people. The counsellors are specially trained to work with 10 – 16 year olds as individuals as well as with families. Weekly sessions are offered to young people to help them cope with their emotional difficulties. The service has proved popular and the counselling sessions have been fully booked since they started. During school holidays, support will continue to be offered at the Relate Centres.

This service is free to the young people. Relate have been helped in this initial period with funding primarily from the Jack Petchey Foundation and Croydon Enterprise, plus some other smaller contributions to provide this service until the spring of 2009. It is hoped that once the scheme has shown what a difference it can make for the young people, then money will be available from education authorities to continue to offer counselling at schools. The counsellors aim to provide a relaxed and comfortable space where each young person can talk in confidence, be heard and understood in a non-judgemental way

UK Premiere of Christmas Play

West Wickham's Theatre 62 is to perform the UK Premiere of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, written by Mark Brown. The production will run from 1 to 6 December at the Wickham Theatre Centre, Corkscrew Hill, West Wickham, BR4 9BA.

Mark Brown continues the story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens one year after the original story ends. Ebenezer Scrooge seems to have reverted to his old ways and wants to exact his revenge by suing Jacob Marley and the ghosts for breaking and entering, kidnapping and murder. One- by-one the characters are called to the stand to give their account of the night in question. The Judge finds them guilty and in a final twist Scrooge makes them an offer, that if they work every day, and not just one day of the year, he will drop the charges. The spirit of caring and giving should be every day, not once a year!

This unusual, amusing and thought provoking play has never been performed in the UK and Theatre 62 expect to attract large audiences.

OCD Action, the leading national charity for people with obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), is hosting a national conference at Imperial College London on Saturday, 22 November. This annual conference has been designed to inspire, invigorate and educate participants and provide an opportunity to share personal experiences of a condition which affects an estimated 1.8 million people in the UK alone.

I have attached a press release containing further details about this one day conference. Keynote speakers will include Professor Paul Salkovskis (Channel 4’s ‘The House of Obsessive Compulsives’). We are the Croydon Darby & Joan Club, a lunch and activity club for the over 60's in Croydon.We have an ever increasing membership and therefore need to take on more volunteers to help run the club. We need people to lay tables, serve tea and lunches, and serve afternoon tea.Also play srabble or cards etc with the members. We are a nice friendly club and you will have a fun time with us.We need people 10-2pm on Tuesdays,Thursdays and 2 Saturdays per month. Also we are looking for an I.T teacher, to teach the basic skills, for Monday,Thursday or Friday afternnoon from 1.30pm, if you have patience and a clear speaking voice, please give us a ring. Fundraiser for Millies Pre-school

Millies Pre-school is a registered Charity (No. 1024696) and gained an ‘Outstanding’ outcome from OFSTED in ALL areas at their last inspection in May 2007! It caters for 25 children at each session between the ages of 2 and 5 year olds and is open during term time. Millies operates at the St. Mildred’s Centre, which is at St Mildred’s Church, 30 Bingham Road, Addiscombe, CROYDON, CR0 7EB.

Millies are holding a ‘Pamper Evening’ on Friday 21st November 2008 at 7.30pm – 10pm in the large hall to help raise much-needed funds for the pre-school. Some of the attractions will be:

Palace Crystals Cheerleaders Auditions

The Palace Crystals Cheerleaders have been providing entertainment and enthusiastic support at CPFC for 13 years. The average age is 16 or 17 with some very talented 14 year olds invited to take part, and many experienced university students commuting regularly to participate in all the action at Selhurst.

Sunday, November 2^nd is the date of the 2008 auditions. Girls with a good fitness level, enthusiastic, outgoing and dedicated are invited to show their skills. The lucky new cheerleaders who are selected will be asked to commit to a minimum of 3 ½ hours training a week, at their own expense. Uniforms must be purchased, although there are regular fund-raising opportunities to assist in these costs. The Palace Crystals travel to competitions in the UK at least three times a year, and have competed in America on three occasions in recent years.

Therefore, you’ll have to be a little mad to want to work so hard. But the dividends are the opportunity to perform with one of the top cheerleading teams in the country, gain new friends and share some very exciting cheerleading experiences. There has always been celebrations and talks about Black History in this country, and it always starts with when Black people from the Carribean Islands came to live and worked in this country. The Black Race has actually existed for a long time and there is a lot of History well documented well before the Slave Trade even began.

There has been several Black Dignitaries that has contributed to Music Arts…etc to mention but just a few to Soceity that needs to be taught in this country to Black children instead of always talking about The SS Windrush and Slave Trade which is the Negative things that has happened to the Black Race.

It is about time Black Children know the History behind their Race.

RASASC Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Centre have been working with survivors of sexual violence for 23 years and we are based in Croydon.

RASASC’s Advocacy Service understands you have been through a traumatic experience and are probably struggling with coming to terms with what has happened to you. If you would like someone to explain all your options in a caring and confidential environment, this service may be of help to you. Whether you choose to report a crime is wholly your choice, but being aware of all your options – is your right.

RASASC Advocacy provides a service to women whom have suffered rape, who will be going through the Criminal Justice System within the Croydon area, and whom are over 16 years of age. If you have experienced rape, there is a lot of legal jargon which can be confusing and intimidating. Often, you may be unaware of your rights in the situation and what services are available to you. RASASC Advocacy Service is here to help and clarify as much confusion as possible, so that you have access to all the information and support you need to help feel more in control and less isolated. Do you look after a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, frail or has a disability? If the answer is yes then you are a carer. The Carers Information Service are offering free training to all unpaid carers. Forthcoming training sessions include:

Having your own budget for care services - An introduction to Direct Payments. Tuesday 11th November 2008, 10a.m. - 12, this course is being led by Disability Croydon. Refreshements will be provided.

Moving & Handling. Monday 1st December, 9.30a.m. - 4.30p.m, this course is being led by TCR Limited. Lunch will be provided by the Carers Information Service.

Make Sundays Special for the elderly in Croydon

What are you doing on Sunday afternoons? Could you spare one Sunday afternoon a month to bring a little warmth into someone’s life and have some

fun along the way yourself? Contact the Elderly is a small national charity that is asking local people to do just that.

Contact the Elderly is a voluntary service that offers friendship and outings to elderly people who live alone with little or no support from family and who

can no longer get out on their own. Once a month small groups of volunteer drivers use their own cars to collect elderly people and take them to a tea

party at the home of a volunteer host. Each month the same group of drivers ad elderly members enjoy an informal social afternoon at the host of a

different host.

You CAN make a real difference to lonely, older people’s lives by joining one of our Croydon groups for Sunday afternoon teas: as a driver just once a

month or as a tea party host only twice a year.

Purley Riddlesdown Afternoon Townswomen's Guild

Parts of London usually overlooked by visitors were revealed in an
illustrated talk by Mary Moore at the October meeting of the guild.
Her talk was entitled Hidden London, and her slides included photographs
of Anglo Saxon fishing traps beside the Thames at Chelsea, and the
interior of Old Down Street tube station which has been closed since
1930.

The guild meet on the first Tuesday of every month at St Edmund's Church
Hall, Mitchley Avenue, Purley at 2 p.m.
The speaker at the next meeting on 4th November will be John Wren who
will talk about the Royal Family.
