Fire on the Costa Allegra

Costa Crociere has been informed on February 27 at 10am CET 39 a fire broke out aboard the Costa Allegra, in the electric generators room located at the front of the vessel.
The fire fighting system and internal procedures have been activated very quickly and the fire-teams have managed to contain the fire. No other area of the ship was hit. It does not have any injured or victim. As a precaution, the general alarm was given on board and all passengers and crew (for those not involved in the management of the fire) were combined with the rallying points with their safety equipment.

The ship is now over 200 nautical miles southwest of the Seychelles and 20 miles of Alphonse Island. Costa Allegra launched a distress call.
636 passengers of various nationalities and 413 crew members on board the Costa Allegra.
Two tugs must support the Allegra to lead to the Mahé where it should arrive on Thursday.

Sinking of the Costa Concordia

The cruise ship Costa Concordia sank yesterday evening (01/13/2012 around 20:00) on a reef near the island of Giglio (Italy).
The ship was carrying 4231 people (a thousand crew members).
Very quickly, the ship tilted over by around 20 degrees and the evacuation was ordered. The evacuation caused scenes of panic and stampedes and people fell into the water or were thrown into the water.
The report is three dead (two French passengers and a crew member Peruvian) and 15 wounded (provisional assessment: there is 70 missing). The reasons for the beaching are currently unknown and the future of the ship is currently not known.

Viking Cruises ordered two cruise-ships

The Viking River Cruises compagny, one of the world's leading river cruise, has decided to go on the sea cruise market by ordering, to STX France (Saint-Nazaire), two ships.

Those two ships will measure 230 meters long by 26.5 meters width for a gros tonnage of 41,0000. They will offer 444 cabins for a double occupency of 888 guests, served by 444 cruise members. The two ships must be delivered in spring 2014 and spring 2015. A thrid ship is on option.

STX Finland and TUI Cruises sign a contract for a Cruise Ship

TUI has ordered a cruise-ship to the shipyard of STX Turku in Filand.
The ship must be delivered in spring 2014 and will measure 295 meters long by 36 meters width for a gros tonnage of 97,000. He will hava 1250 cabin for a double occupency of 2500 guests served by 1000 crews members.

This ship will be the third of TUI Cruises compagny after the Mein Schiff (formely Celebity Galaxy) and Mein Schiff 2 (formely Celebrity Mercury).

Naming Ceremony of the Costa Favolosa

On July 3rd, 2011, took place the naming ceremony of the new cruise-ship of Costa Cruises, the Costa Favolosa.
The ceremony took place at Triestre in Italy. The godmother of the ship is the italian actress Margareth Madè.

The Costa Favolosa has a gros tonnage of 114,500 for 3800 guests.

Artemis become Artania forPhoenix Reisen

Artemis (previously for P&O Cruises) became the Artania for the German compagny Phoenix Reisen. After several week at the Lloyd Werft shipyards (Germany), balconies were added.
230.6 m length by 29.6 width, the Artania has a gros tonnage of 44.588 for 594 cabins, so a capacity of 1260 guests.

Naming Ceremony of the Mein Schiff 2

The new cruise ship of the German compagny TUI Cruise was christened on May 14th 2011, in the port of Hambourg (Germany). It's the olympic champion Anja Fichtel who was selected to be the godmother of the Mein Schiff 2.

The Mein Schiff 2 was former the Celebrity Mercury, the ship has 956 cabins for a capacity of 1912 guests

Order of two new ships for Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean has announced the ordered, on February 21st 2011, of two new cruise-ships to the shipyard of Meyer Werft (Germany).
Those ships, of a tonnage of 158.000, will have 2050 cabins. Their deliveries is scheduled end of 2014 and spring 2015.

Hapag-Lloyd has ord10th,2011 a new cruise-ship to the shipwards STX France (St Nazaire). This ship will be named Europa 2.
It build must start on september 2011 and it will be delivered on srpinf 2013.
It tonnage will be of 39500, a length of 225,25m and a width of 26,7m. It capacity will be of 526 passengers (258 cabins).
