For the past two years I have been trying to help the countless number of people who are seeking help from opiate addiction in Connecticut. Everyday I wake up and I do my best to help and individual in desperate need of help, seeking a Suboxone doctor so they can return or become positive citizens in society. With many not understanding that it is one person behind ctsuboxone answering call after call, that person is me, Courtney. Knowing that I have been able to assist many is a wonderful feeling, realizing that many I have been unable to help because I am only one person in a state where opiate addiction is growing.

There is no fee for the help I offer, there is no paycheck for what I do. There is a purpose for me here and that is to help others, it is frustrating to me that the demand for more Suboxone providers seems to go unheard. Not letting that discourage me from doing all that I can, reaching out to different organizations being listed on the 211 info line etc.

Last week I knew I had to do more, so I did. Desperate for more help on my end, one person cannot keep up with the calls, so I reached out and have registered ctsuboxone as a non profit. Living on a wish, a prayer that I will find a grant or donations from the people in Connecticut or our government will be made so I can hire people to help me answer the calls of individuals that are desperate for help.

My dream is to help more people, to have an educational piece to ctsuboxone educating parents on the warning signs. To also have a place where people can call when they need someone to talk to when they feel that they are at their lowest, alone and just need someone to speak to. Knowing this dream will not happen over night, I will stay hopeful and positive that Connecticut and the people within our state will see the good that is being done here.

Connecticut is in need of suboxone providers, please psychiatrists in Connecticut take the Suboxone course, many lives depend on the doctors within Connecticut, and the ones I pray will become certified to help in this epidemic.

We are easily found on the internet, the 211 info line for Connecticut also has our information and refers people to us who are seeking a Suboxone provider.

Suboxone is called the “miracle” medication by many, as the success rate is very high for people who are taking Suboxone. As Suboxone alone is not enough many say, attending groups weekly to talk about the struggles of everyday life.

It is free and easy to get involved with the forums, you do not have to put your real name, having the ability to chat with others who may face the same issues. Any type of support is helpful, and some do not have a good support system. It is open to questions, concerns basically anything you want. You can share your story, chat with others, they are safe as we ensure that there is no illegal activity taking place. Freedom of speech is a right that we all have, please use it tastefully as a respect for others.

I want to thank the doctors that are in contact with us, to help the people in Connecticut. With the help of these suboxone providers, it allows us to refer patients to providers that can assist them.

Limitations of patients that a suboxone provider can care for, the 30 patients and 100. These numbers need to be increased. If you would like to assist in bringing change, please email us with a letter of support, or if you would like to speak about the issues doctors are facing due to the limitations, we can set up a time that works for any provider. Again, please feel free to contact us.

Our contact information: Email :info@ctsuboxone.com Phone: 860-966-3964

With more providers speaking out about the issues, change is possible.

With so many trying to find help, it seems everyday becomes more difficult. There is a high demand for doctors that can prescribe Suboxone in Connecticut, the disease of addiction is growing and there are not enough doctors to care for people in need. This disease is not chosen, no one wants this illness to face death, jail or institutions but more and more are.

As we are trying to bring attention to the state of Connecticut ( and yes they will be doing their best to help) you can help by sharing your story. A documentary is being worked on and we are seeking people who suffer from this disease of opiate addiction in Connecticut , as well as people who are affected by someone who has the disease.

If you would like to help, please email me at info@ctsuboxone.com all information obtained will be used for the soul purpose to educate, as well as to show the state of Connecticut that we are in much need of more Suboxone providers.

Doctors you may help as well ( and thank you for the doctors that are helping) you may help by contacting me via phone 860-966-3964 or email info@ctsuboxone.com. You can write a letter to the state about the increase of people that are suffering, the many who have Connecticut state insurance. Also how effective Suboxone is and the lives it has saved with proper care. Psychiatrists are one of the largest Suboxone providers in this state, primary care doctors are providers as well. With the need for more doctors to have the ability to be providers of Suboxone, there is a limitation to how many people can be treated for the first year they are licensed. Year one of being certified 30 patients is all a provider can treat, after the one year the allotment of people a provider can treat is 100. If there was an incentive to become certified, and a possibility for a waiver to increase the amount of people that can be treated. Any idea’s are appreciated, support is as well. Many lives are being lost to this disease so please help, help with any suggestions so it can be shared with the chairs of the public health committee.

Sincerely,

Suboxone Saving Lives Across the Nation

Health advocates and doctors say a little pink pill called buprenorphine (brand name Suboxone), a relatively new drug for treating heroin addiction, has decreased overdose deaths and taken many addicts off the street, reducing crime and even preventing homicide.

“It’s absolutely the best thing that ever happened to this city in terms of treating heroin addiction, and I think it’s safe to say it has been a factor in reducing violence,” said Dr. Michael Hayes, chief physician at the Center for Addiction Medicine at Maryland General Hospital.

Buprenorphine is a mild analgesic that acts as a “blocker,” preventing withdrawal symptoms and cravings in people addicted to heroin. Made available for treating addiction nationally in 2005, buprenorphine –unlike methadone, a more established treatment for heroin addiction—is not nearly as potent, and doesn’t cause feelings of euphoria associated with more powerful opiates.

The apparent effectiveness of buprenorphine has prompted a greater push by Baltimore officials to expand the availability of the drug, which currently gets only a small percentage of the city’s $47 million drug treatment budget. “Every week I get calls from doctors or clinics seeking funding to be able to provide buprenorphine to people who need it,” said Greg Warren, CEO of the Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems.

Baltimore’s buprenorphine program was given a “Model Practice Award” by the National Association of City and County Health Officials last week in recognition of the efficacy of its buprenorphine initiative. “In 2008, 84 fatal drug overdoses did not occur, and in my book that is 84 people whose lives were saved. This award is well earned and deserved,” said Mayor Sheila Dixon, referring to the 2008 reduction in overdose deaths from the previous year, which Warren also attributes to the wider availability of the drug.

Despite the drug’s success, the DEA wants to closely monitor the doctors prescribing the drug because it can be misused by addicts who obtain it illegally. Warren said that buprenorphine is still much safer than treatments like methadone.

“I do not believe that buprenorphine is being misused, even when it’s being bought on the street because you can’t really get high on it,” said Warren , noting that Suboxone contains an additive called Naxolone, a drug that blocks the effects of other opiates, making buprenorphine less attractive to people using other narcotics.

“It almost impossible to overdose on buprenorphine unless you are taking another substance,” Hayes added. “In general, we still don’t see deaths, but we do with methadone, burprenorphine is a much, much safer drug,’

Last year, a Baltimore grand jury investigated buprenorphine’s efficacy for treatment of heroin addiction. After a four-month probe that included interviews with health officials, drug treatment professionals, and even addicts, the jurors concluded that the drug is both “safe” and “effective” for treating heroin addiction, and recommended that the city expand availability of the drug.

Still, the FDA has yet to lift restrictions that limit each approved doctor to prescribing the drug to more than 30 patients; restrictions initially limited an entire practice to 30 patients being treated with buprenorphine.

But Hayes said that in a city where heroin addiction fuels a violent drug trade and criminal behavior, the more buprenorphine available the better.

As so many people are seeking help for opiate addiction it is getting harder to find a provider in the state of Connecticut, nation wide as well. With limitations on the number of patients a suboxone provider is allowed to provide care for is not only hard on the people who are seeking the help, but for the doctors who are allowed to prescribe the medication suboxone. It is very hard to tell someone who is seeking help ” I cannot help you” many doctors are full and if you have medicaid or medicare it is even harder.

The cost of a rehab is quite costly yet the percentage of people who remain sober after attending is low. People that have either tried suboxone, or have sought treatment have found it to be successful and remain on the sober road. Suboxone, therapy and the want to be sober are helping many to remain or get back to working as well as a positive person in society. Time and time again I hear the words ” Suboxone is a miracle medication, I have no cravings, I can work, be the parent I have wanted so badly to be.” This help should not be so difficult, to feel the way so many do and more that would do anything to feel that way.

Doctors that have taken the steps to become a suboxone provider have a limit to how many people that suffer from this disease. For the first year of having their license to treat patients they can only treat 30 patients after the one year they are allowed to treat 100. If that limitation could be raised more lives could be saved, less crime, less arrests, people in jail and more people being productive and providing for their family.

Please feel free to leave your story, for the many who have been trying so hard to find a provider as well as for the people who have been fortunate enough to have a provider. Sharing your story may help with showing the public health committee as well as other members of the judiciary the difficulty many are having.

STOP

Freeze

Stand in life’s line waiting for a diagnosis

the system ignores the life within an addict

drowning in alcohol every night

is the father trying to break up a kid’s fight

the acid over there on the table

are the same that made my uncle’s eyes unable

there is life weaved within the addiction

a schedule to keep with the penciled in heroin

a budget with an allowance to supply the addict

even a small town housewife

leads an addiction filled life

and there is another side

day one is hard

but so is day one hundred

an addict must be selfish

in the road to become sober

always remember

there is hope for the pain to be over
