I believe I was around 6 years old at the time. That was one of my favorite days with my dad, just me and him, my Mom and brothers were off on other errands. I seem to recall he was off from work that day but he needed to pick up some papers from his office to take home and work on. He picked up his papers and then took me to a little diner on main street that served these huge, whatever you want breakfast platters on the cheap.  That was a great day out with my Dad and it was my first experience ever with a parking meter. Years later when I started a job in downtown Houston, many of these same parking meters were still in existence.  But then, newer parking meters were added and numbers were painted on public parking spaces and now patrons were required to punch in the number of the slot they were parked in. These meters ran on 12 volt batteries that required a manual recharging and were often out of order. Just a couple of years ago Mayor Bill White of Houston made an attempt to recap all of these lost Parking revenues and had solar powered meters installed throughout the city of Houston. These meters are not only solar powered but also take credit cards and are wifi enabled. You simply follow the instructions, pay the money required and then place the receipt on the dashboard of your car. The date and time and amount of parking time purchased is all listed on that receipt. &lt;br /&gt;
So, what is the problem with this, you may ask? Oh, there are a lot of problems, the first being that a lot of the solar powered meters end up losing their charges, due to cloudy skies, trees or whatever, and the public does not understand that they can proceed to any working meter nearby and get a receipt to place on the dash of their car. The biggest problem with these style of parking meters though, is the publics refusal to even try to learn how to work them. Day end, and day out, I see people walk up, look at the meter and immediately start looking around for someone to help them work the meter. They never even try to read the instructions , they just float right into helpless mode. The first instruction on these meters are &quot;Press Any Button To Start&quot; Most don&#39;t even read that far, they just immediately turn away and search for someone to do it for them. I have done the demographics and the majority of these people are  Black or Brown . I am not being racist, just stating the fact that the majority of people who can not follow the directions and want someone else to help them out, are from these groups. These people don&#39;t even make an attempt to figure out something as simple as a parking meter, so how can they make an informed opinion or make an informed vote? The state of our Union Right now scares me. We have too many people who would rather choose a color than a principal, It&#39;s not about the color, It&#39;s about America and Americans. It&#39;s about our freedoms and our rights. It&#39;s about being an American and supporting our country and the principals our country was founded on. My first thought was that this would  be a bunch of liberals who supported everything Black/ Brown or Obama. Curious about what exactly a Coffee Party is, I visited their face book page. I am still not exactly sure what their political standings are as the postings from different individuals seem to run the gamut from Loving Obama and hating Sarah Palin to Hating Obama and hating Sarah Palin. The Coffee party states their objective as &quot;a discussion of current events of politics from a perspective based on common sense, morals, and a want for real change.&quot; Their&#39;s is no real platform or party lines, just everyone voicing their own opinions. Everyone exercising their right to free speech as granted to them in the Constitution. This all came to a head last week when a meeting was called at 5 minutes to 5PM to announce that everyone would soon be changing their job duties. The reason given is that with potential layoffs looming on the horizon, management now wants everyone in the office cross trained on the different desk duties. It was said that the company is more likely to keep the workers who can perform different job skills. I have worked every job in the office and have finally returned to the job I like best. Most of my coworkers have worked various job duties also. I don&#39;t see this as cross training so much as a way for management to get everyone stirred up. Once or twice a year our second in command gets bored and moves people around the office like pieces on a Chess Board. Now she has a reason to move people around even more often and threaten everyone with layoffs. Every year at our evaluations we are asked how we like our job duty, I am very non committal with my answer. I say,&quot; I like it okay&quot;, and when I am asked if there is something else I would like to do, I just shrug and tell them it doesn&#39;t matter to me, one job is as good as the next. I know that if I admit to liking or desiring a particular job then that job will forever elude me. I will be placed doing the job I like the least. Our second in command is famous for doing this, not to make for a lot of unhappy clerks, but out of her misinterpretation of a long ago management class she took. He was all for it, but knew nothing about it. He even said the bill was posted online. When the host of the show asked him where was the bill posted, he back pedaled and said he hadn&#39;t read it so he didn&#39;t know, he just knew it was on the internet. All he knows is that the Healthcare Bill is a good thing and will provide free insurance to 30 million americans who don&#39;t have insurance. That&#39;s the first time I heard it was free, stupid me for paying for my insurance, when I can get me some free insurance. What about the illegal aliens? Well of course they should get the free insurance too, they are taxpayers. When the Talk show host pointed out that most illegals are paid in cash, he said no they aren&#39;t, they work and pay taxes. This is the kind of idiot that voted for Obama. People should read and study the issues before thay cast their votes. We are not choosing between chocolate and vanilla ice cream here. Just because you like chocolate ice cream does not mean that you will like everything made out of chocolate. Look at the issues and make an informed decision. Do not show your ignorance, by approving of everything done by a man because he is black or he is white or whatever color he is. Know the issues and learn the issues. The Bill of Rights was authored by James Mason in 1789 and ratified December 15th. 1791. The purpose was to set limits on what the government can and cannot do in regard to personal liberties. The Bill of Rights included 10 Amendments from the American Constitution. &lt;br /&gt;
The Tenth Amendment clearly states, &quot;that powers not granted to the Federal Government is reserved for the States and the Citizens&quot;.  It is another Obamanation that president Obama does not recognize these rights as stated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We the people have the right to say NO. Why is the vote for Obama&#39;s healthcare reform left up to Congressmen and Senators? Let the American people have a say in this. More and more, the government intrudes into all aspects of our lives, from how we raise our children, to taxing everything we own and then giving that tax money away. The land of the free and home of the brave is fast becoming the government creed of give us everything you have and then give us more. We are expected to do what the government tells us to do and give up our free will. &lt;br /&gt;
If there is no limit to Government, this will no longer be the land of the free, it will be a  Obama&#39;s Dream of Socialistic Society, where the working class works and supports those who refuse to work.&lt;br /&gt;

Ane extra day off during the week would help prevent this. Utah instituted this plan for their State Government employees and were surprised at all the money they saved in reduced overtime. Granted that the earthquake in Haiti dealt devasting damages and resulted in thousands of deaths, but in reality, how much of this money will actually go into lining the pockets of crooked politicians? Where did Obama get this money? From the U.S treasury perhaps? He did not ask the American taxpayers how they feel about giving this money to a foreign country, and in the end, it will be the American taxpayer that pays the price. In the past few years, America has been hit by several hurricanes that caused billions of dollars in damages. We did not rely on money from another country to rebuild and recover from these disasters, it came from our own pockets. &lt;br /&gt;
Wouldn&#39;t the money Obama has promised to Haiti, have been put to better use in our own country. Wouldn&#39;t this money help aid America in climbing out of this recession. Government spending is on the rise once more. The death was unexpected as she was in her forties and had not been ill. She passed away on a Sunday.The funeral was scheduled to take place the following Saturday, to allow out of town relatives the time to make travel plans.  My relative&#39;s company, like mine and many others, allows employees 3 days off to deal with a death in the family. That is 72 hours in which to grieve, plan the funeral, and deal with the shock of losing a loved one.  My relative had already survived through 5 lay-offs with this company, and was now working a reduced shift. He took his paid 3 days off, and returned to work the Thursday before the funeral. He could not afford to take 2 more days off without pay. When my father passed away 2 years ago, I was faced with the same dilemma. I took my alloted 3 days and then 2 more days. Those 2 extra days had to come from my own vacation time or I would not be paid for them. 3 Days is barely enough time to get the funeral arranged. When the press unexpectedly shoved the microphone in my face and asked my opinion about the layoffs, the first thing that popped into my mind to say was, &quot;It&#39;s an obamanation&quot;, luckily, that thought stayed in my head, with the rest of my opinions, and did not cross my lips, or I may have ended up joining the ranks of the unemployed. I kept my responses to the reporter mundane and non-committal and expressed sympathy for those affected by the layoffs. I feel confident in the knowledge that, so far, my small department has escaped the &quot;Corporate Budget Cutting Axe&quot;. For now my job is safe, but in today&#39;s economy how safe is safe? We live with the reality that any moment of any day, those layoffs can affect  own lives. I am 3 years away from retirement and in my late forties, I don&#39;t want to start over again. This Obamanation is our reality, our country sinks deeper into a recession that  President Obama does not have the knowledge or experience to dig us out of. Unemployment is on the rise. The workforce is threatened with massive layoffs and salary reductions.  Before being elected President, Obama made promises to the American people that now, as President, he refuses to keep. He pushes a health care plan that will end up costing the taxpayers trillions of dollars over the next few years. Government spending is on the rise and Corporate America is following the Gravy Train laid out by President Obama&#39;s &quot;Stimulus Packages&quot;. Where is the Bail out for the American taxpayers? There are other ways to cut the budget without cutting the workforce.&lt;br /&gt;
Our company restructured The retirement plan a few years ago, changing the points necessary for retirement from 75 to 80 points. Employees that could of retired 2 years ago, were forced to stay with the company 2 and half more years in order to get their full retirement benefits. If the company had kept the old retirement plan, and instituted a hiring freeze, the workforce could of been cut through attrition, not forced layoffs. &lt;br /&gt;
Cut the spending. Our Corporate campus is littered with new building projects and several more projects are in the planning process. In addition, they are looking to purchase more property to build more new facilities on. These projects should of, and could of, been put on hold, but instead the spending continues and it is the employees who are affected by the overspending. If the company would offer incentives for retirement and cut the spending, future layoffs could be avoided. An out of order sign was quickly posted on the door and a call was put in to building maintenance. A week went by without the toilet getting fixed. Last Friday I was trying to finish up a project at my desk before lunchtime, and I kept putting off a much needed run to the ladies room. Finally I could wait no more, and I rushed across the room and down the hall to the ladies room. I was in a hurry and not paying much attention when I entered the restroom, but I did notice one stall door was closed and the door to the stall with the broken commode was open, but the out of order sign was still posted. I could hear someone in the stall with the closed door so I rushed to the stall on the other side of the broken one. No sooner had I started taking care of business, when I heard someone banging on pipes in the other stall. OOPs! the maintenance men were in the stall behind the closed door working on the pipes. Well by now I was committed and it was too late to stop the flow, so I finished my business, washed my hands, and went back down the hall to the office. The women sitting at the receptionists desk gave me a funny look when I emerged from the hallway, and I asked them if they knew that there was Men Working in the Bathroom, they said they did, Well, I didn&#39;t I replied, and they busted out laughing.&lt;br /&gt;

The office demographics reflect the changing demographics in Houston and the state of Texas. We have 40 employees in this office. The CEO is male and white and the second in command is a white female. There are 6 supervisors, of these there are 4 black females, 1 hispanic female and 1 white female. Of the other employees, 2 are vietnamese, one male and one female. Of the rest, there are 8 black females, 1 white male, and 5 white females, one of which is Russian and 2 that married hispanic men. All of the other employees are hispanic, and only one of those is male.&lt;br /&gt;
So there are a total of 9 whites, 12 blacks, 2 vietnamese, and 17 hispanic employees, only 4 of which are male.&lt;br /&gt;
Most of the hispanic employees were born here in the U.S to Mexican Nationals, these are the anchor babies grown up. &lt;br /&gt;
Many of their family have never learned the English language. &lt;br /&gt;
Lady Liberty evokes &quot;Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free&quot;. Immigrants came from many different countries all over the world seeking this freedom that America had offered. They yearned to become citizens of this great nation. They proudly declared themselves Americans and America became diverse with many different people and cultures. Illegal immigration has changed all that, for these illegal immigrants do not want to be Americans, they just want the American Dream and the Anchor Babies are their tickets to that dream.
