Salmonella Outbreak: Sushi linked to salmonella outbreak affecting 19 states

Center for Disease Control and Prevention United States (CDCP), Wednesday (4/5) says at least 90 people were reported poisoned rare salmonella bacteria - Bareilly -which allegedly contained in the food sushi.

Reported that salmonella outbreak has spread in 19 states and the District of Columbia from January 28 to 2 April 2012.

With so many people who fell ill from salmonella outbreak, the plague is apparently still ongoing.

The victims, who contracted salmonella bacteria, said they are eating sushi, sashimi or similar food.

In the news reported by Xinhua, there has been no report of death or hospitalization of victims of salmonella bacteria.

CDCP is currently working with government officials and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was to identify the source of salmonella outbreak.

Patients infected with salmonella will usually experience diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps during the 12-72 hours after infection. Food borne illness usually lasts for 4-7days.

Although many people recover without treatment, salmonella poisoning can also be a serious matter, which could bring the victims required hospitalization or even death.

More recently researchers at Harvard University, the United States found that apples, blueberries and pears can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. This is because apples, blueberries and pears are rich in flavonoids; it is a natural compound that is in certain fruits, vegetables and grains, which some previous research has been to link it with health benefits such as lower risk of heart disease or cancer.

The study, led by An Pan was to make observations and interviews of 12.600 participants with diabetes in the United States.

Pan and his team found that participants liked to eat at least five apples a week reduces the risk of diabetes of about 23% compared to participants who are not accustomed to eating apples. Likewise with those who love to eat blueberries.

Pan says that to get consistent results from three groups of studies that apples and blueberries are very beneficial for type 2 diabetes, although it did not directly prove that apples and blueberries can prevent diabetes

Iran stops selling oil to the UK and France

Blackout movement which carried thousands of Internet sites to oppose the SOPA Bill or Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA or Protect IP Act, which was carried by the Congress of the United States (U.S.), has attracted the attention of world public. But, what are SOPA and PIPA?

SOPA bill or Stop Online Piracy Act was first rolled out on October 26, 2011 by Congress to the United States House of Parliament. SOPA proposed to expand the capabilities of law enforcement in the U.S. and the copyright holders in the fight against trade in copyright and intellectual property through online media.

With the SOPA, U.S. Department of Justice and the copyright holder may apply to the court to take action against a site that violates copyright. And based on that application the court may close the ad lines that go to sites that have been deemed violators of copyrights, limiting the search engine associated with the site, up to block it. SOPA also can take action against the spread of content that is not accompanied by permission to the penalty of five years in prison.

Even SOPA provides immunity to Internet service, such as online payment and ad networks that voluntarily sever ties with violator’s site. The site can be held accountable for the losses of the copyright holder.

PIPA bill was first proposed by Sen. Patrick Leahy (May 12, 2011). PIPA contains about setting offense caused by the distribution of copies of counterfeit or illegal copies and counterfeit goods.

PIPA target site was not domiciled in the U.S., but the site is registered and operated from outside the U.S. With authorization from the U.S. Department of Justice, the site of offenders will not be found by your Internet or blocked. Even providers of financial transactions, Internet advertising services, as well as Internet service providers would be prohibited from engaging in financial transactions with the site by removing the link. Also search engines like google.com will be ordered to remove or disable access to that domain.

The plan council members will vote on the PIPA bill is related to on January 24, 2012. As for the SOPA bill, Congress still must conduct a hearing with council members.

SOPA and PIPA "Blackout Day"

On Wednesday, January 17, 2012 some internet service provider decided to close together as part of the action blackout to protest against the draft law of anti-piracy (anti-piracy bill) in the U.S. Anti-piracy bill in question is the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA). Currently the second bill (SOPA and PIPA) is still in the process of legislation.

SOPA and PIPA seem to not only have an impact on the U.S. site. Instead, the targets of the bill are the sites that are outside the U.S.

Through the Bill, later the site outside the U.S. that is considered copyright infringement can be blocked unilaterally.

The site manager is doing the action blackout, consider SOPA and PIPA could threaten freedom of expression and undermine the atmosphere of the online world that is conducive. They worry about these rules can be a weapon for the company owned the rights holders to sue various websites blindly.
