Here is another altered CD. The past few days have been so busy with work and household chores (our helper ran away) so blogging and crafting will have to take a back seat until we have fully recovered from the holiday activities, school activities and domestic chaos.

Bees was, perfect pearls and stamp. Perfect combination. The letters were die cuts using cereal boxes.

Chipboard: 10 ways

Here is something to share to kick off the busy month of December.

I love how chipboards provide depth to layouts. With so much products available in the market today, altering chipboards are not limited to paints, inks and papers. Using different products and mediums give additional dimension and provide the look you want for your layout.

Here are the top ten ways i love altering chipboards.

1) Using Crackle paints and sprinkling with Beadazzles: apply crackle paint and use Ranger glossy accents to adhere the Beadazzles randomly on the painted chipboard.

2) Using acrylic paints and distress embossing powders and again beadazzles. Just love the rugged look of the fence in this layout.

3) Using acrylic paints and glitters and again beadazzles (it is not obvious that beadazzles are my favorite). Aside from beadazzles, the Martha Stewart beads can also be used. It comes with candylicious colors. Too bad I don't have them just yet as I have two more bottles of beadazzles to finish. Notice how the last two techniques gave a different look for the same picket fence die cut.

4) Using perfect pearls to add color with shimmering effect. Apply Versamark ink to chipboard and dust with different colors of perfect pearls.

5) Using mists and glimmer glam to add color and again with shimmering effect. Apply gesso randomly and them mist the chipboard. Notice the difference on the areas misted with gesso and misted plain chipboard. Apply glimmer mist to finish off.

6) Using gesso and glimmer glam. Here's another rustic look of the chipboard fence used in the layout above. Applying generous amount of glimmer glam and drying using a heat gun will give the glass look in the bird cage.

7) Using acrylic paints, modelling paste, mask and distress inks. There are so many masks out there in the market and you just have to use it in your chipboards. First paint the chipboard with acrylic then layer the mask and apply modelling paste (Golden Medium or Liquitex). Once dry, apply distress inks randomly on the modelling paste.

The last three techniques I learned in a class from Visual Creations under Cabbie and Ime.

8) Using Shimmerz paintz and Golden pearl mica flakes for shimmer and sparkle.

8) Using mists, Golden Gel Medium, tulle and various beads and trinkets. Apply generous amount of Golden Heavy Gel Medium to a chipboard. Adhere the tulle and sprinkle beads and decorate with trinkets, buttons and other metal embellishments. Finish off with a spray of glimmer or any kind of mist. A technique learned from Iris Uy

9) Using crackle paint and glimmer mist.

10) Using Ranger glossy accents to adhere Martha Stewart tinsels and glitters.

This is one of the Sundays where we have to be at the church from the morning service to vesper service. For one, today is the quarterly release of the NOW bulletin and Dad has to pick it up from the printing press and bring it to the church for distribution; two, the Little Ambassadors for Christ has a scheduled rehearsal at 1pm; and three, we were designated to light the candles in the advent wreath for the vesper service.

So that it won't be a long and tiring day for the kids, shuttling from home to church, twice in a day, we initially planned to go to church in time for the children's practice at 1pm, however, it was a rainy Sunday and taking public transportation with the kids is not a good option.

I did not have enough sleep as I also worked on my altered CDs starting 1:30 am. Ish just came home from a high school get together that time. I found it too hard to focus and understand Ptr. Arevalo's message.

Practice started after lunch. LAC will be playing Away in a Manger in Handbells and Angklung. I was in charge of practicing the kids with the Angklung. The handbells are a delight to see but gives so much pain on the neck to perfect their piece. After practice, we released the shirts for the Christmas Concert. I was able to take time to nap after practicing the kids which lasted for about an hour. After which we all decided to eat the Causeway to avail of their PhP45.00 dimsum offer.

Back at church, during the vesper service, we lighted the advent candle. At the same time, during the offering was also decor the Christmas tree, where we decorate the Christmas tree with colored envelopes containing our offering.

CD art a day

Ever since I started making a CD art, I cannot help but work on at least one a day. Normally, I work on 3 CDs at a time. It's some sort of maximizing the mod podge or gesso in the paint brush and at the same time, at least I can prep up on the CDs I will work on in the coming days.

It is purely experimental, but I just love the outcome.

TGSUMC: Angklung Ensemble

Around September this year, with the pledges and donations from the church members and The Good Samaritan Christian School (TGSCS), the much awaited instrument is finally home at The Good Samaritan United Methodist Church and so the TGSUMC Angklung Ensemble was launched during the celebration of CE month.

Artful expression

I discovered my love for art this year. It started out of curiosity that I joined Christy Tomlinson's She Art Class and She Had Three Hearts class early this year. Slowly as weeks and months go by, I made no progress as I only made one She Art canvass. Not until recently that I get to play and experiment with my stuff. I am enjoying the process. I incorporate some techniques in my layouts. Sometimes, I cannot call my layout complete or finish without a touch of paint, spray or ink. Here is something which is an application of what I learned from the class. It is not necessarily a She Art canvass, but the creative process of mixing everything on paper, it's all here.

This ended up as a birthday card which we gave our officemate.

Art is an expression and appreciation of yourself. I love looking and admiring the works of others, but I also like finding my own style and expressing myself. It is like me going out of the box.

Until recently that we had so much damaged CDs at home that I decided to make art out of it, make something useful out of it. So here goes my CD art.

Sketch time

Here is my take to Sketchabilities Sketch #59. One thing I love about sketches is that it removes the guesswork with regards to placement of photos and embellishment. You can still own the layout by twisting or tweaking it a little bit and incorporating your own style and design.

Too bad the lighting is not so good while I took a picture of my layout. All my recent layouts reveal my love affair with washi tape. It is my go to stuff right now when I wanted to add some dimension in my page. Another thing I love doing lately is misting and painting, a technique I used to alter the die cut leaf and the doily paper.

Did you see that canvass plate painted with glimmer glam?

Creative process:
1. Die cut a corrugated board and paint with acrylic paint, mists and shimmerz.
2. Adhere washi tape, papers as mat.
3. Die cut a canvass plate and paint with glimmer glam
4. Mist the doily paper with maya road mist.
5. Adhere altogether and finish of with swirls.

This blog is on a sleep mode so better be quiet...
-ber months are really busy mostly with school and church activities and some things really had to go.
But still, I am able to squeeze in some scrapping in between.

Most supplies from this layout is from my leftover during the Scrap Buffet by Studio Azul. This time, we were allowed to bring home leftover papers and embellishments that are on our table. How cool is that.

Creative Process:

1. Use patterned paper for background.

2. Cut the postage paper from Making Memories and layer to serve as mat.

3. Adhere washi tapes, chipboards and stickers all over.

Cramming

i hate cramming but i often do it all the time.when will i learn my lesson? now i am cramming for the second quarter exam worksheet for my two boys, but let me sneak to share this.

I love how mask and stencils can create dimension in you page. For this page, I used Crafter's Workshop Mums stencil.

Creative process:

1. Position the mask in the paper and do the misting.

2. Punch a border in a scrap paper.

3. Mat photos using Making Memories Noteworthy journalling tabs

4. Apply rubon and adhere the remaining photos.

5. Use TH tiny attacher to adhere the title.

6. Finish off by stamping and embellishing with flowers and swirls.

Saving Up for Christmas

Last night, I went grocery and noticed that shopping malls and stores are now filled with christmas gift ideas and I realized that Christmas is really in the air. This led me to another thought that I have to start saving up for Christmas. But still there are non-negotiable expenses that are due in the coming days, like Joie's prescription glasses. Ever since he is two years old, he's been wearing one and we have to see his opthalmologist every six months and he is due for check up in the next few weeks. This could possibly mean that his doctor will change his prescription glasses. I just glad I saw this video from Clark Howard who gave various money savings tip including savings on prescription glasses. True enough, I found just the perfect glasses for Joie which not only fits my budget but gives me enough savings for the Christmas. A five year old boy really needs one that has protective coating, full UV protection, protective case and microfiber cleaning cloth. Do you think he's gonna like this:

I don't have to worry ordering from Zenni Optical since there is detailed description on the website which includes the dimesion and an option on to try the glasses on different facial shapes.

September to Remember

Two years ago:

a. We opened our rice store - Camaso Rice Dealer. We have to totally entrust God where He will lead this new venture.
b. I was scheduled for surgery at St. Luke's Medical Center, Quezon City. There is a growth in my vocal chords which causes my hoarse voice. After the surgery, I had to be speechless for 10 days to ensure proper healing from the surgery. I had to trust God that He is in full control of the surgery. I have entrusted to Him te hands of the surgeon and the other attendants for that surgery. I have entrusted Him my life the time I had to be in a deep sleep for the surgery.
c. Typhoon Ondoy flooded major areas of Metro Manila. Our place was spared and God just reminds us that He is in control, He gives and He takes away. God sometimes have to shake our faiths for us to look at Him and trust in Him.

These are the times where we just hold on to our faith in God, for Him to lead us where He wants to and show us His presence in our lives.

Indeed, it is a September to remember that God is working in our lives.

Scrappy Saturday: Scrap Lauriat

I joined Scrap Lauriat which was organized by Studio Azul and Visual Creations. It was a whole day scrapping activity and glad that someone takes care of our rice store, Camaso Rice Dealer, that I can schedule weekend activities, either with the family or simply a me time activity. Scrap Lauriat is so fun, each participant were given a kit to start with and different embellishments, from flowers, alphas, rub on, stickers, chipboards, etc, were provided in our table. Once a participant completes two layouts, she is entitled to get 5 sheets of paper from the paper station and when a table completes 10 layouts, 8 in our case since there are only 4 of us in the table, we get to pick 5 embellishments from the cart. My goal is to complete at least 10 layouts which will bring my total number of layouts to 50 for the year but I was able to complete 12 layouts during the Lauriat, with work in progress mini album and a take home of paper packs and embellishments.

Last February, part of worship service is the renewal of vows among couples. Couples renewed their lifelong commitment to their respective partners which was sealed by a prayer from our Pastor. Here are some photos snapped during the service.

Warm Up

Last two nights and it will be the most awaited event for scrappers here in the Philippines - the Studio Azul and Visual Creations Scrapbook Laureat. It's gonna be this Saturday at Cameron Hall, North Forbes Park. This event has been announced for months already so that means I have time to prepare. For several weeks now, I have been going through my photos and sketch blogs to prepare.

This Monday, I tried to do a layout. I pulled out my papers and photos. The paper I had is a little bit challenging because of the bold design, which does not perfectly match my photo. Then I remembered this sketch

from My Creative Sketches . This is the debut sketch for the blog and tada...here is what I came up with, in 30 minutes or less. First time to finish a layout in a short span of time. Thanks to sketches.

Just when I thought the layout is done, I had to come back and sprinkle the flowers and the title with Bedazzles and Ranger Glossy Accent. Cool way to add dimension to your project.

Of course this should have been posted last Saturday, however, it is already late posting due to my commitments over the weekend. As promised, I try to post layouts every Saturday and try to share some tips on how I made the layout. Maybe someday, I will have the chance to take a picture of the work in progress layout. This layout has several elements I love, the misting and masking, stamping and embossing, use of Bedazzles, use of Tim Holtz die cuts, which suits perfectly because this is a travel layout. The Old Jalopy die cut was sent by Isabel from Yellow Violet House along with the die I ordered from her. I had to dress up the die cut to give it dimension.

My creative process:
1. Using Prima mask and Studio Calico Mister Huey Mist, I created the swirl background.
2. Stamp TH stamp and embossed with a white embossing powder.
3. Stamp TH script stamp using Distress Ink Pad.
4. Mat the photo with a patterned paper.
5. Tear a strip of paper for the background.
6. Punch a strip of paper for the border.
7. Randomly apply two colors of perfect pearls using embossing ink.
8. Die cut fence shape and apply distress ink and randomly apply distress embossing powder
9. Apply glossy or sepia accents randomly to serve as adhesive and sprinkle bedazzles on the glossy accents.
10. Adhere lace.

Since I have been making reviewers for my kids since they started schooling (Junior Casa 1 or Nursery), I thought I would share it to other moms out there. Every Monday, I will be posting a lesson for the week and our lesson for today is about words with multiple meaning. When he was in grade 1, my elder son had a challenge on this topic and was told by his teacher to review and so we collected as much resource material from the internet and at the same time prepared worksheets for him to practice on.

Multiple meaning words are words that have several meanings depending upon how they are used in a sentence. Normally context clues are used to help figure out which meaning is correct. Context clues are the surrounding words that were used in the sentence.

Here are some words for practice.

1. Cinderella went to a ball through the help of her fairy Godmother.
    a. a party.
    b. something that is used in sports.

2. I will show you how to make a paper plane.
    a. I want to show you my pet turtle.
    b. We will watch the show on Saturday.

Here is another layout I finished. I actually have 2 versions of this photo. One goes to each album for the boys. Kuya is just so sweet sharing ice cream to Joie..

Most of the papers are from Studio Azul kit.

Here's the step in doing this layout.

1) Lay Prima mask and using Maya Mist spray, spray randomly on the mask.

2) Alternately adhere the Basic Grey and Making Memories alternate. Punch the edges for dimension.

3) Arrange the photos.

4) Cut the Hambly transparency.

5) Adhere the Fancy pants felt from the kit.

6) Stamp and heat emboss Fontwerks label stamp.

7) Adhere the alphabet stickers and American Crafts Thickers for the title.

8) Stamp Prima (from the kit) and Ali Edwards word stamps.

9) Adhere Daisy D's rubons (from the kit)

I just found myself scrapping for the past few days. Thought I'd better put my stuff to use rather than let them collect dust. It seems it is a man's innate characteristic that we can create or rather recreate something good and wonderful because after all, we are created in God's image and the very nature of God who made all these wonderful things around us is within us.

Found myself a little bit challenged with the papers I used in this layout as they are rather old and I cannot find much inspiration around using these papers. This is still one of the Studio Azul's kit left unopened in my stash. And this very well fits into Use It Tuesday's Two-fer challenge where you have to make a project out of two hoarded items.

Here's how I did this page:

1. Punch the edges of Basic Grey and Making memories papers.

2. Alternately adhere the papers to the cardstock

3. Using an old book page as a photo mat so that picture will stand out from the busy background paper.

4. Apply gesso to the chipboard and randomly paint with brown paint.

5. Randomly stamp with embossing ink and sprinkle embossing powder.

6. Randomly stamp with Ali Edwards stamp.

7. Finish with title, journalling and embellishment.

Press Down, Shaken Together, Running All Over

1. My father's surgery. For God's provision and healing. He provided the means for us to afford the surgery that is suitable for my father's age; He prepared my father to be physically, emotionally and spiritually ready for the surgery. Doctor's were even asking what was his secret for his healthy heart. He did not have to go to ICU compared with others who underwent the same surgery.
2. Kid's enrollment. He provided the means for us to enroll our kids in schools that really nurtures them as individual and as children of God.
3. Trip to Singapore.`He gave us the means and the time to bond and relax as a family and bond with mother and sisters' family.
4. House makeover. He provided financial and other resources for the makeover. We were able to contract those whom he gave talents and skills to do the repainting and repairs.

and still counting.. these are just to name a few of God's blessing.

It could be a good practice to count our blessings and name each one. This way, we will be reminded how rich and amazing our God, our provider is. He can give us more than we ask, more than we can think or imagine.
Earlier this year, we committed these items as we prayed in Touch of Glory Prayer Mountain. And indeed, God who is more than able gave us more than we ask, more than we can think or imagine. True to His promise in Luke 6:38, God made all these possible on top of the different ministries we are supporting.

"Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full--pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back."
We give, not because we wanted to receive...we give out of our response to Him who first gave us His only Son that we may live a life that is one with Him.
