In slumber mode till now since I woke up. I feel the need and I really need to switch to active mode before I get myself into trouble.

Well you see, I am working today and I will be covering a sharing session in Tien How temple at 1.30pm. I know there's still time, but to be fresh and ready to carry out my duty and listen to what the 5 panelists have to say will not be a stroll in the park.

Hence, I need to slap my soul and thoroughly wake it up. Now, I'll make myself a cup of tea and hope all things work well for me.

Malaysian Indian Congress chief to be business envoy

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 22 (IANS) Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Samy Vellu has announced his decision to step down this month-end and take up his new assignment as business envoy for five countries - India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Vellu will bid farewell to his party colleagues when he chairs the last meeting of the supreme council, ending a 31-year tenure as head of the country's largest Indian-based party.

His deputy Senator G. Palanivel will take over from him as the MIC chief, Vellu told Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak last week-end, New Straits Times said Monday.

'Samy Vellu told us that Senator Datuk G. Palanivel who would be taking over as MIC acting president would represent the party in future BN (Barisan Nasional) supreme council meetings,' the newspaper said quoting an unnamed source.

The Star reported Monday Samy Vellu is expected to start his new job as special envoy for infrastructure for India and neighbouring countries on Dec 1. The job comes with ministerial status and perks.

Multi-racial Malaysia is home to 2.1 million ethnic Indians, a bulk of them Tamils settled during the British era. They have traditionally voted for the MIC.

MIC is part of the ruling alliance, Barisan Nasional (BN) of which Najib is the chief.

Najib, who is widely believed to be preparing to advance the parliamentary election and hold them some time next year, had earlier persuaded Vellu to step down as MIC chief.

Vellu is to be given a farewell dinner Dec 14, likely to be attended by the prime minister, The Star said.

Media reports have not detailed the task Vellu would be performing in his new assignment.

During his 31 year stint at the helm of the MIC, the party has developed a business arm and an education arm.

Vellu is a familiar figure among the Indian diaspora and usually leads large delegations to the annual Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, the annual meet taking place in India.

Pressure had been mounting on him to step down as the MIC president especially after the formation of the anti-Samy Vellu movement by former MIC Youth deputy chief V. Mugilan in May, New Straits Times said.

Vellu had taken over the helm of the party as acting president Sep 13, 1979, following the death of Tan Sri V. Manickavasagam.

Vellu lost his bid at re-election to parliament in 2008 when the ethnic Indian vote drifted away to the opposition.

Vellu, who won unopposed to become MIC president in September last year for the record 11th term, said his resignation before the completion of his term would give his successor a chance to take over the presidency and give him ample time to prepare for the next general election.

歷經東盟峰會到東亞峰會，從越南河內到中國海南之後，美國國務卿希拉里經於踏足吉隆坡，展開為期3天的官式訪問。希拉里來訪宣告在美國與大馬“全面交往”政策下，兩國重建策略伙半關係時代亦將宣告來臨。

而希拉里的整個大馬政策維，全面交往戰略，以迄於此次訪問行程的安排，事實上不能僅僅視為是擺脫馬美自由貿易談判困局及恢復全面貿易交往的安排，而是代表著美國知識菁英、政

商界等主流價值的大馬認知下，所作的具體表現。然則我們有無可能透過希拉里的訪馬，來透視美國社會主流大馬觀點，從而尋找到未來馬美交往與談判的另一種思維、另一種美國認知，另一種戰略佈局呢？尤其今年10月初美國貿易代表柯克透露，奧巴馬政府將把大馬納入跨太平洋戰略經濟伙伴關係協定（TPP）談判內，目的是“增進美國與世界增長最快速經濟體的經濟利益關係”，則我們有無可能藉由希拉里的這次參訪，讓美國政府對我國推動的經濟轉型乃至新經濟模型有新認知？

希拉里的訪馬行程正顯露出美國主流社會的大馬認知。在全面交往的大戰略構圖下，美國或許認為其價值觀將可逐步改變未來的大馬。希拉里也明言，她希望與反對黨領袖安華舉行“閉門”會談，這是美國在受訪國平衡朝野觀點的慣例；至於先前美駐馬大使保羅瓊斯所提到的在大馬各州派駐“和平隊”的作法，除了加強馬美民間交流之外，也觸及環保理念確保大馬的永續發展。總體而言，希拉里試圖藉由行程的安排，探導致變大馬未來的民間動力，正是建立在基層反對勢力、年輕知識份子、商務業的實務工作者，會晤非政府組織人士等等為主，所形成的改變大馬的內在動力。而希拉里當知其身份特殊，此種接觸對大馬政府及基層，具有鼓舞強化的作用，同時藉由實地體會，希拉里及隨行的西方媒體也可看見以往較少被矚目的另一個真實大馬，而這些內在動力也可能形成影響大馬未來命運的無可逆轉的力量。

就亞洲局勢來看，美國重返亞洲自然也會帶來區域權力格局的改變，最明顯的蘇利南海山嶼主爭議將浮上台面。近幾年來，南海區域衝突一直被認為是亞太地區潛在的衝突引爆點之一，因此像新加坡等小國，一直希望暴國能留在亞太地區；只有美國留在亞太地區；有美國留在亞太，才能穩定區域局勢，避免領土衝突千高。從這點觀察，美國重返亞洲對區域國家而言應該都有正面的意義。

另一個直接愛到影響的是東南亞秩序。此次河內東盟峰會結束後，新的東南亞秩序已然成形，奧巴馬近期的亞洲之行，對美國的東南亞政策自然如同注射了一針強心劑。在東盟成員國逐漸擴大影響力的時候，美國積極介入，不但確保了美國在區域的影響力，也讓東盟為核心的亞太新秩序新架構逐漸茁壯成形，其所幅射出來的經濟與政治效應，也會在區域造成相當的衝擊。

這兩個現象都是我們所不能輕忽的。就南海領土爭執而言，美國重返亞洲既可使南海衝突威脅稍減，大馬就應把握機會，再次提出擱置主權、共同開發南海資源的主張，因為這對區域發展，以及建立我國作為一個回饋者的形象，都有積極的意義。再就河內東盟峰會後的東南亞新架構而言，如何以更靈活的政策，趁此機會落實區域營運中心以加速經濟轉型，當是政府所應認真思考的。

希拉里在訪問大馬後，將續程前往柬埔寨、巴布亞新幾內亞，再到澳洲、紐西蘭與美國防長蓋茨一道出席五國聯防會議，顯然安全與經費是她此行的重點。從希拉里的思路與行程，我們希望她除了官式拜會與會議之外，也能走入民間，去看看基層民主、年輕知識份子、商界領袖，環境保育等等，或許這是她展開亞洲新視野的開端。

（吉隆坡31日訊）社會運動人士希山慕丁拉依斯指出，公正黨現有的直選制將為金錢政治打開門戶，影響該黨黨選的公平性。

“公正黨一人一票的直選制度可能造成缺乏道德的候選人，利用金錢政治影響選舉的成果，破壞直選的直接民主精神。

他昨晚以主講人身份出席隆雪華堂青年團舉辦的“直選――馬來西亞能否走向成熟民主度”論壇時這麼表示。

他聲稱除了公正黨之外，大馬各政黨都有同樣的問題，而且國家的各種選舉制度也只是一種民主過程，缺乏真正的民主精神。

其他主講人是回教黨代表兼民權律師哈尼法、政策研究學院主任卡立加法和大馬國際回教大學講師阿都阿茲。

哈尼法：政黨須培養內部民主文化

哈尼法披露，各政黨必須培養內部民主文化，讓政治人物尊重民主制度，大馬才能在各區域性選舉推行直選制。

他說，只有讓人民瞭解民主精神和民主的真正含義，正確使用手中的一票選出有領導能力、負責任的人民代議士，才能把馬來西亞帶向更民主的政治環境。

卡立加法：爭取直接民主充滿挑戰

不過，卡立加法表示國內有約1140萬名選民，因此欲透過選舉實踐直接民主是充滿挑戰的建議。

“雖然爭取直接民主的過程非常艱辛，但一旦實現直接民主制度，人民就可以通過公投決定是否保留或廢除一些國家政策。

“實現直接民主其中一個要素是傳播的自由，而我們也須確保文盲或貧窮人士等社會邊緣群體，能與其他選民一樣參與民主過程。”

Singapore is well known as an advance city-state, yet one worrying factor that might deteriorate into a brick, denying it it's path for further development would be the dwi-policy used to govern Singaporeans and non Singaporeans.

Singapore rely heavily on foreigners, many intellectual workers working in S'pore were not even born in the city-state. The government of S'pore uses various policy to attract foreigners to work in S'pore, just imagine if these people just vanishing into thin air and what would happen to S'pore's economy -- that's a scary scenario.

From what I heard, foreign students in S'pore faces much more stress and competition than local students, because there's a quota system in the tertiary education. To be fair, they do give priority to Malaysian students, but how about students from other countries? I am not saying the dwi-policy should be banished, but it should be revised according to the current situation.

The other issue I would love to bring up, is the plea for the President to forgive Yong Vui Kong, a young Malaysian facing the death penalty due to drug trafficking when he was still a minor. Standing by law is correct but not always, we are humans not robots, so there is should always be an exception, espicially when Yong has already regretted on his wrongdoing.

You see, the biggest problem with S'pore is that they stress to much on "Law-by Law". Come'on, who likes to live in a country which governs its citizens like they are high school students who has diciplinary problems?

I would like to urge more Malaysians to sign the petition to pressure Mr. Nathan, let him realize S'pore should be governed by love, not the S'poren law!!

一个人又可分为：一个“人”；一“个”人；“一”个人。
也可以诠释为：一“个人”；“一个”人。

一个“人”说的是有一个特定的人在某时某刻存在于某空间
一“个”人把人物化，把人看成有机物体，忽视人的灵魂
“一”个人的人是孤立甚至孤僻的，这样的人离群且舍弃其他人

一“个人”表示人的思想处于“个人”模式时，人最自私
“一个”把人量化，把人看成孤独的，曝露人的渺小

这么一路走来，我活得精彩吗？活得有意义吗？活得有价值了吗？
回头望望一望，我活得不够精彩！我没有真正活得有意义！我活得有价值，但那可是破坏性的价值啊！

The Debut of...

Frankly speaking, i was looking forward to meet my lecturer in room B309 on that very day. I read his book -- Transition. It was a book that opened up my mind to some of the newest technology and tempted my desire of wanting for more information and news on the latest tech-gadgets and technology.

I saw his picture from his book. Well, to be honest, I met him before last year when he was a guest lecturer. However, his physical appearance did not quite match to what i was expecting. He seemed to have put on some weight. He looks sort of Japanese or Korean. His got really thick and bushy eyebrows. Now, I was quite surprise to hear from him this was he was debuting as a lecturer. I was quite shocked because someone as tech-savvy as him should be guest lecturing or part-time lecturing at quite a number of colleges and universities.

The first impression I got was: "Alright, this semester we will be having quite a lot of fun learning about the online media and ways of managing it. COOL!!!"

It turned out that I learned loads of knowledge and news about online media management. The best part is i learnt how to blog. I am able to say I am part of the blogging community. Somehow, I felt proud about it.

Blogging was extremely fun. You don't have to use the old, traditional and boring way to write your personal diary. You could also spread news about certain current event or social issue. It is a new way of sharing part of your personal with other people. It was hard to imagine the fun and benefits of blogging, but when I started to blog, I realized it was not just about writing your own diary, but also enabling your friends to know more about you. By communicating using written words, we are able to lessen the chances of having conflicts.

Once, Wiley Chin (Oon Yeoh's friend) stood in for him because Oon had a trip to America. Now, Wiley has this odd habit of explaining things by taking food or anything to do with food as examples. He was supposed to talk about content managing system. He did stick to the topic but he similarized the content managing system as a hawker center. He says if we do not need to wait long for our food, then the hawker center is efficient, just like an efficient content managing system.

A content managing system is simpler than html language. It was designed to help editors and sub-editors to do their work in a systemathical and easy way. Editors and sub-editors could edit many news article one by one without using up too much physical space. The content of news article could be corrected right away as soon as an error is identified. I came across such a system while I was working in Malaysiakini as an internship. It is really convenient and time saving. It helps a lot in a internet news firm where time is more valuable than diamonds.

I also picked up the habit of reading online news after attending classes for this subject. Google news is my favourite online news source. If i want to read local news then i will browse Malaysiakini's homepage. Reading news online is fast and there are many choices.

Oon Yeoh introduced many technological terms and latest tools. He also acknowledge us about some softwares that would enhance our blog. Basically the software makes our blog's features look stunning and attractive. I have to admit that i did not put in my best effort in my blog, but i hope my words will be able to do some replacement for the simpleness of my blog's feature.

That is all that i can say about what i learnt in Oon Yeoh's class. I do sincerely hope that no one will be flunking this subject because it is just so impossible for this to happen.

Pride and glory was the only two elements that flooded the hearts of Arsenal players and Highbury supporters. Everyone was proud of their 7 goal defeat on the Toffees. Everton was expected to be hold light celebrations after confirming them in the preliminary round of Champions League football. However it was Arsenal who denied ManU their last hope to takeover the second placing in the Premier League. This would spare out more time for Arsenal in their pre-season training and preparations. They will be having a training programme ini Austria.

Now it wouldn't be such big news if Henry scored a hatrick in this crazy win over Everton, but Henry didn't find the net in the match. However, he did get a few shots on target. The team showed what they was capable of and they proved that they could control the game with accurate passing and quick-paced counter-attacks. The new combination of Sol Campbell and Phillippe Senderos worked out fine. Campbell looked a little rusty after being absent for a few games, yet he managed to produce a good tackle which stopped a goal oppurtunity. Wenger started the game with experienced players with the likes of Viera, Edu, Pires in midfield and Cole, Lauren and Campbell at the back. Two young promising and talented young strikers were paired up in front.

The lineup proved itself as a sufficient strategy. There's not much to say to prove it, just look at the score! It was the biggest win for an Arsenal team under the guidance of Arsene Wenger. The team's performance also signified that young gunners in the mould of Fabregras, Flamini, van Persie, Reyes and Senderos already suited in the physical game of the Premier League. Flamini and Fabregras came in as substitutes and helped the team score four goals in the second half of the match. Flamini scored a goal himself after coming in at the interval. It looks like he will be the best inheritor of Viera's position. Fabregras is also hot in his boots. He didn't score but his never-ending run and great vision of sparking off an attack will surely bring Arsenal to a different stage when he is fully matured in the game. It is quite hard to convince ourself to believe that the Spanish teenager is just 18.

If we take an overall observation, we can't say that Arsenal had a dissapointing season. They managed to walk out of the aftermath of the loss to ManU. Although it costed them the throphy, but their young lads got the chance to boost their game in the Premier League. If it wasn't for the young lads, Arsenal wouldn't have finished second in the table.

Lastly, all the best to the Gunners in their upcoming fiery battle against ManU in Cardiff. I hope the 7-0 win scared the hell out of ManU players and Alex Ferguson.

The Daily Me

Beware! Fellow bloggers and net citizens. A new trend of audience/reader behaviour has emerged, it is the wide spreading in the internet world. This new phenomenon is known as 'personalization'. If it is about news selection, then there is a name for the 'newspaper' created by the owner him/herself, that is the "Daily Me".

As it sounds, the "Daily Me" is a newspaper owned personally by an individual, or in other words an electronic publication of the owner's creation. This is an obvious change in the matter of receiving information and messages. Information and mesages used to go through the process of filter and editing before both elements are transmitted to audience/readers through a media. This change of audience behavior seems to be a blessing to the audience, but it has its own setbacks.

First of all, audience/readers restrict themselves to news topics or television/radio programmes which they prefer. By doing this, they don't get diversed inforomation. People who are fussy and lazy will be getting very little information through the media. They can simply choose news topic or programmes according to their appetite. Most teenagers prefer reading entertainment news to reading about politics or community-related articles. Under the concept of the "Daily Me", they will come across much less topics of disccussion which they're not interested in. However, if they read printed newspapers, they may come across an article on a country's election. Somehow, they may be attracted by the pictures of the report and start reading the news report.

The habit of only exposing oneself to limited sources is unhealthy from both the social and psychological perception. We learn more if we are keen in having a wider scope of reading news and watching programmes. That is why I think the audience and readers will lose a lot general knowledge if they only read and get to know about issues that they are interested in. At the end of the day, audience and readers become 'gatekeepers' themselves. This I consider as an awkward and eerie situation. This is because a majority of audience and readers do not receive education on mass communicatios. Therefore, they lack the capability to filter a diversed combination of news topics or broadcast programmes professionally.

This will be a major setback in the effort of promoting media education to the audience and readers by media organizations. Although I have to admit that the rights of audience and readers for having a say in what kind of information they would like to receive, but I would still insist the importance of educating the audience and readers. The main reason behind this is that common people do not 100 percently know what informations are useful and beneficial to them. I would love to stress that this is indeed a fact that can't be overrruled.

Lastly, in my humble opinion, I feel that it is only possible and suitable for the "Daily Me" in a society where 90% of the citizens are intellectuals and possess basic knoledge on editing information. However, this seems to be a Utopian future to me, yet me still can try our best to achieve this goal which would somehow benefit us as audience and readers.

World Press Freedom Camp

All came to an end about 20 minutes ago. The camp ended with much joy and laughter which I hope would be the hint of a brighter future for press freedom and freedom of speech. My knowledge and understanding on the mass media environment Malaysia broadened quite a lot. Thanks to the much experienced speakers and the few quite interesting activities, which was part of the camp sllyabus.

I had fun but sometimes it is quite hard for me to fully concentrate during the panel talk session.
Well, I'm just a normal student after all. However, I did get the chance post my question to the panel speakers about the commercialization of the electronic media. Overall, the main difference of this year's camp compared to last year's, was that the number of panel talks was decreased to avoid boredom. It was an important change, because it was also important for us to learn more about press freedom through a more direct approach and much intteraction.

That was why the organizers of the camp (a committee of Media Studies students) decided to add a new syllabus to the camp, that is discussion workshops. Campers are suppose to choose a workshop out of three. The discussion was crucial for us to exchange ideas, opinions and facts on a given topic. Topics for every workshop is different.

Alas, I would love to say 'Bravo!' to the organizing committee. Everyone of you did a good job.
