Four Years Later....

2016-10-02T10:46:00.000-07:00

It's been quite a while since my last post on my blog and I apologize for that but now I'm back with something different and exciting!

After having my baby girl, Israa, I went through some health problems that prevented me from baking as much as I used and would've liked to. This put me down quite a bit because baking was, still is (and will always be), a passion of mine. Nonetheless, I still do a lot of baking and cooking for my family. My daily life in the kitchen includes much more than cakes and cupcakes. Each day is a new chance to make my family happier and healthier. It is these recipes and goodies that I will be posting on here for the next few weeks.

So, stick around if you'd like to see a little bit more from the Cupcations' family kitchen. :)

I know it's been a long time since I last updated my blog, but I have some exciting news :D had to share!

In mid May, I received a very exciting email from Cake Central Magazine asking me to make cupcakes based on a theme and it could possibly be featured in their next issue! I was nothing short of overjoyed. After constant effort, and anxiously waiting for that one reply, MY CUPCAKES MADE IT! I am very honored to have to work with Cake Central and I am failing to comprehend my excitement right now!

Cupcake Bouquet Tutorial

2012-02-26T18:10:00.000-08:00

After posting my first Cupcake Bouquet I got a lot of requests for a tutorial and finally here it is :D. Hope you find this useful, this is my first tutorial sorry if there's anything unclear. Please let me know if you have any questions.

For this tutorial you will need:

-Mini styrofoam balls

-Wooden skewers(12"tall)

-A hot glue gun

-A vase

-A styrofoam cube

-Silk leaves (washed)

- Decorative rocks

-A knife

*Sorry but I did not take pictures of all the tools I used*

1. Grab two skewers and slide a single foam ball into it. Depending on the size of the cupcake, slide foam balls 1"-1" 1/2 into skewer. This will prevent the skewer from sliding completely into the cupcakes.

2. For extra support, using your hot glue gun place some glue underneath the foam ball.

3. Repeat this process untill you have made enough skewer stands to fill your vase. For an average sized vase, as shown in the picture, you'll need roughly 20 cupcakes/20 skewer stands.

4. Using a hot glue gun, glue styrofoam cube to the base of the vase.

5. After it has dried, Place skewers into foam. Separate each skewer 1-2" apart form one another.

6. Cover the base with decorative rocks. The reasons behind this are, because the cupcakes will overweigh the vase causing it to tip over, this will insure some extra weight at the bottom of the vase. And second, it will cover the foam so it won't be visible when displayed. .

7. Decorate your cupcakes. Remember for this bouquet it is best to use a crusting butter cream recipe, this will prevent the icing from sliding off the cupcake. Also allow the butter cream to crust (an hour or so) before arranging them in the vase.

8. Before placing cupcakes on skewers get a knife and punch in a tiny whole on the bottom of each cupcake, this step will make them slide easily into the skewers.

9. Place the cupcakes on the skewers.

10. Fill the gaps with silk leaves try to cover your techniques as much as possible. Make sure you wash the leaves before placing them near the cupcakes, to insure sanitation.

**This bouquet is very delicate, if it is to be transported make sure to remove the cupcakes prior, then rearranging them when needed**

Pale Green, Yellow, And Pink... Baby Shower Cupcakes

2011-09-28T08:02:00.000-07:00

These baby shower cupcakes were for two new mothers, both expecting baby girls. I usually only use two colors and work with that but this time I had to work with three. Lately, fondant cupcakes have been quite popular for me.

One of the guests at the shower told me everyone thought they were magnificent. Nothing like good feedback after along hours of hard work!

Congratulations to both mothers!

Red, Blue, Orange & Yellow - Suncor Themed Cupcakes

2011-08-12T09:30:00.000-07:00

These cupcakes were for a BBQ hosted for Suncor employees. Theresa, the host and founder of McMurray Musings, asked me to work with the colors that are used in the Suncor logo. She didn't ask for any specific designs so decorating was up to me.

I really enjoyed working with such vibrant colors. I loved how applying the gold luster dust and gold disco dust gave it a really nice finishing touch.

I thought if it's a Suncor party, why not display them in the same formation as the logo. Theresa loved the idea and displayed them as showed below at her party.

It was a pleasure working with you Theresa :)

Baby Bum Cupcakes ..... Purple Cupcakes

2011-07-09T16:32:00.000-07:00

These cupcakes were for Yara's baby shower. After seeing my Tahani's Farewell Party Cupcakes,Yara's mom decided she wanted fondant cupcakes.

She gave me one of the shower's souvenirs and wanted the color of the fondant to match the color of the decorations/souvenirs. She wanted a small fondant cake to fit the top shelf of the stand.

I have yet to do a fondant cake so I hesitated before I said yes. I've always seen baby bum cupcakes but I have yet to see them done on a cupcake, so I gave it a try. I really enjoyed my first fondant cake experience but it was very tricky nonetheless.

Welcome Baby Yara!

Tahani's Farewell Party Cupcakes

2011-06-24T08:56:00.000-07:00

A friend of mine was throwing a surprise farewell party for our very close friend who's moving to Edmonton. She asked me to do the cupcakes for her and said to make them anything I wanted. No specific color or design. Since I rarely do fondant cupcakes, I gave it a shot.

I wanted colors that are warm and elegant. Even though the order was small, they took a good 3 hours. I was told by the guests and my family that these are probably the best I've ever done, so it was worth the hard work. I loved the final results!

Abdu Wedding

2011-06-20T17:06:00.000-07:00

Ahh, where shall I begin! These cupcakes were for a wedding in town, also my biggest order yet! I made 162 cupcakes, 320 flowers, and 4 different colors. It was certainly a lot of work, but it definitely paid off. I attended the wedding the next day and it was so nice having so many people coming up to me and telling me how great of a job I did.

Congratulations to the Bride & Groom!

Cupcake Bouquet

2011-06-13T07:51:00.000-07:00

I've been wanting to do a cupcake bouquet for a while, finally here it is!

One of my close friends was having a surprise baby shower for one of her friends. She asked me to do the cupcakes for her, and since she didn't ask for anything specific I decided to give the bouquet a shot.I've watched a hand full of tutorials on how to make a cupcake bouquet but non of them had what I wanted. After a long day of research, I decided to come up with my own. :-D

Just a little side note, I've been asked often lately to do a tutorial, and I promise I will soon.

Now back to my main subject, I used 21 cupcakes for this bouquet. Although, for future projects, I think I'll be using more. The leaves are not edible, they're made out of silk-like fabric.

✿ ✿ ✿

It breaks my heart to say that this master piece didn't make it to the baby shower. It fell an hour after the photo shoot, and I was so devastated. )-: But I am glad I got to take pictures of it before it happened. I ended up making the cupcakes below as my last minute backup. They're not nearly as fancy, but they had to do.

As some of you know, my cupcakes were featured on Cupcakes Take The Cake earlier this month. This is by far the biggest thing to ever happen to me!

Rachel; one of the founding editors of Cupcakes Take The Cake, posted pictures of my Flowers & Viens and Simply Ganache cupcakes on her blog. I was certainly surprised and over joyed! (-:

Gardenia Café Sample I

2011-05-30T11:13:00.000-07:00

Gosh, this month has been quite hectic! At the same time, May was such a great month, I can honestly say my business has expanded in the past 30 days.

I got a call from Safa; the founder of the well known 'Gardenia Cafe' here in Fort McMurray telling me she saw my cupcakes on Facebook and she was amazed by my work. She suggested/offered to sell my cupcakes at her café , which I was absolutely flattered and completely honored to do!

Safa asked me for samples, to see her customers' reaction, in other words, to test out the water. I made two separate sets as samplers. She called me a couple of days later and said the cupcakes were a big hit, some of her customers even asked if they were edible which made me feel great. :-D

Nada & Nadir's Engagement

2011-05-08T07:28:00.000-07:00

This order was special, different then my other ones due to a few spectacular reasons. First, it was for an engagement, so this is my first ever formal event order! Second, I got to do my first cake! Third, this order was to another town, around 5 hours away, which made me feel quite proud. (-:

The majority of the decor at the engagement was ivory and gold so the bride asked for those two colors. Unfortunately, due to short notice I couldn't supply her with them therefore we had to choose something different yet similar. She decided on aubergine and ivory with a hint of gold after seeing the Aubergine & Ivory Cupcakes I did last March.

She wanted a 5 inch cake for the top of the tower, which I was a little nervous about. I have never decorated a cake before, ever. I decided to give a try. I have to admit, knowing that it's going to be at a formal event did add a little more pressure but hey, there's a first time for everything right? It was a little tough, but I was quite impressed with what I pulled together. The top flower was fondant it was also my first ever. I'm going to go ahead and say it, I am very proud of myself at the moment. :-D

Congratulations Nada & Nadir on your engagement. I hope you have a life full of happiness and joy together!

Omar's 4th Birthday Cupcakes

2011-05-04T10:02:00.000-07:00

This batch was different then other orders I received before. Late that afternoon, Omar's mom emailed me and asked if I can do her son's birthday cupcakes for the next day. I hesitated at first, I usually plan every step of what I'm about to do days before the actual pick-up date.

After mixing and adding different colors and shades I ended up with a navy and a deep yellow. Together, they had a very space-like theme, which I loved. The disco dust & gold dragees on top made it seem like it's a galaxy on a cupcake.
