We're calling on people around the world to organize an action on October 24 incorporating the number 350 at an iconic place in their community, and then upload a photo of their event to 350.org website.

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science and justice demand.

Our mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis—to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.

Our focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

To tackle climate change we need to move quickly, and we need to act in unison—and 2009 will be an absolutely crucial year. This December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. The problem is, the treaty currently on the table doesn't meet the severity of the climate crisis—it doesn't pass the 350 test.

In order to unite the public, media, and our political leaders behind the 350 goal, we're harnessing the power of the internet to coordinate a planetary day of action on October 24, 2009. We hope to have actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world - from the Taj Mahal to the Great Barrier Reef to your community - and clear message to world leaders: the solutions to climate change must be equitable, they must be grounded in science, and they must meet the scale of the crisis.

If an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need.

“Detroit Metal City” (DMC) is a cartoon series started in 2005 on Young Animal magazine. It soon earned a cult following for its eccentric setting, distinctive characters, radical story and the funniest jokes. As soon as it was released as a comic book, it quickly sold out at every bookstore, and those who couldn’t get the comic were called “DMC refugee”.

DMC is the first Death Metal comic book to be released on screen and in animation at the same time. Both were released in August, 2008 in Japan. The animation is produced by STUDIO4°C, known for its recent works such as “Tekkonkinkreet”, “Animatrix” and “Mindgame”.

In the movie, Gene Simmons of KISS plays the “legendary and world-renowned” Death Metal artist, “Jack IL Dark” who competes with DMC on stage. The final live performance scene is not only the craziest spectacle and the climax of the story, but a collaboration any Death Metal music fan would crave to witness!

Film maker John Hughes died yesterday.

Mr.Hughes was taking a morning walk during a trip to visit family in Manhattan when he died of a sudden heart attack.

John Hughes was a prolific writer, producer and director. He was born in Michigan in 1950 and started his career as an advertising copywriter in Chicago.

His directorial projects include generation-defining teen classics such as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He also directed Weird Science, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, She’s Having A Baby, Uncle Buck and Curly Sue.

His writing credits include National Lampoon’s Vacation, Mr. Mom, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind Of Wonderful, and Home Alone. His last public project was writing an independent film, "Reaching the Rock" in 1999.

For the last decade, he had run a farm in northern Illinois and spent time with his family, also supporting independent arts. He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 39 years, sons John and James and four grandchildren.

John's movies have long been considered 'American classics' and this is a sad day for all of us who grew up watching his work. Thanks for the memories, gone but never to be forgotten ~ Curby
