On the other hand, if you can face and accept and even rejoice in the experience of darkness, if you accept God is more than an idea which keeps your religion or philosophy or politics tidy – then you may find a way back to religion, philosophy or politics, to an engagement with them that is more creative because you are more aware of the oddity, the uncontrollable quality of the truth at the heart of all things.

This is what ‘detachment’ means – not being ‘above the battle’, but being involved in such a way that you can honestly confront whatever comes to you without fear of the unknown; it is a kind of readiness for the unexpected, if that is not too much of a paradox. [American Digest Sidelines]

About 1 percent of the nation's population is currently in uniform as either active duty or reserve such as the National Guard, and that number will dwindle as factors such as budget cuts and the inevitable drawdown because of the end of the Iraq War take effect. During World War II, about 12 percent of the population was in uniform. True, it was a different time and a different war. But, an entire generation comprising millions of citizens had some personal experience with the duties, sacrifices, opportunities and pride that came with military service. That shaped citizens' outlook on everything from how they voted to what they considered the proper role of the United States in the world. This gap is particularly large among young people.

I may be the only conservative in the nation who rues the day we stopped drafting men into the military. Now, when fewer than 50% pay any income tax, and 99% of under-40s have never served in the military ... —. With no investment, nor pride of ownership, we're exactly like any run-down pulic housing project. Francis Ewan Urquhart is my only hero.and role model. God help me.

Buried in some comments was a link from Wabano about an interview with "White House insider". I'm sure you don't need any caveat about believing anonymous stories told by anonymous people on the internet. I will say this however. As just a regular Joe who lives in the DC area, even I have acquaintances who are well-positioned in the Washington power structure, who, during some friendly imbibing, will "relate" stuff. And I mean very very secret stuff, so this Ulsterman report scenario is plausible. The chance for finding truth here is at least on the level of , say, reading a WaPost article. Here's a few items that made my skin prickle a bit.

Insider: He’s an atheist you know.

UM: What?

Insider: Barack Obama. Atheist. So is Jarrett. Not that it matters…I don’t really care. No…I do care. I don’t like the lying about it. The bullsh-t way they go on using people. Pretending. That church in Chicago – it…for Obama it was just about connections. Leverage. Politics. Now I see them…getting the media to show them going into a church, hearing Obama talk about his religion…it’s all…it’s nothing to them. Nothing! God is a joke to those people. A punchline.

UM: Is that part of the story? The president’s atheism?

Insider: No. Maybe…speaks to their view of life though, right? How the life of others ain’t important? No accounting for their sins in their world. Hell don’t exist! Murder…got nothing on them. It’s all just an outdated and ridiculous concept, right? Use the Black vote…use it up. Go to their churches and then roll their eyes and mock them behind their backs. He isn’t a Muslim…that…he never was. The president sympathizes with anyone and anything that they feel…the people around him…Jarrett, the First Lady…anyone they feel has been mistreated by this country. That’s his God – anti-Americanism.

Obama's atheism is of no consequence to me, but I really liked "Insider's" reaction. In another segment he discusses being in a room of "way" insiders and president-elect (1993) Bill Clinton. When a "little man" entered the room and caused everyone, including the Secret Service, to come to attention.

UM: I need you to get back to the story. President Clinton and—

Insider: Right- right…sure enough…

The President-Elect, he comes up to me. Calls me by my first name. Big guy. You don’t realize how big he is until you’re standing next to him in person. He’s smaller these days. A bit shrunken in. Back then…a big strapping fella from Arkansas. Cornbread-fed as my momma used to say. ... Hillary is there too of course…but she’s off to the side. Not so comfortable as her husband. Pensive – that the right word? She smiles, but there’s no smile coming from her eyes. [...]

Gore is there too. Didn’t like him then. Like him less now. He ain’t Tennessee – never been. Spoiled D.C. political brat is what he is. And a fu–ing loon to boot.

So that’s the scene – Bill Clinton is soon to be inaugurated the next President of the United States. The guy is larger than life. He is ruling that room. Senators with the legislative power of God are kissing his ass now. The guy is King of the World. And then this little fella walks in. I don’t see him walk in…there’s just a sense. A feeling that the rest of the room catches too. Here is Bill Clinton, his head poking above the crowd of people hoping to get what I got – a quick thank you, a handshake, a moment with history. By now I’m off to the side a bit, but still about ten – maybe fifteen feet from the President-Elect. And like I say…there’s this little fella parting the crowd…parting the sea – and heading right toward Clinton. He don’t stop to acknowledge anyone…but everyone steps to the side. Out of their way. Even the Secret Service detail who has been around for months now…they step aside. Now I can’t stress that enough here…hell, I know I’m not saying it in a way that really communicates how that made me really take notice of who this person was. You see…some of us had been on the campaign for…well…since the beginning. And we still had to deal with the Secret Service when approaching Clinton. Not a pat-down or anything…it’s not like that. But they always put themselves there…they didn’t just step aside. NEVER. [,,,]

This time…for this person…they did.

Here Insider is confused over why the White House enforcers [People like them – they are dinosaurs. Big fu–ing dinosaurs that might crush you right under them and not even know it] are so protective against anti-Ron Paul messages going out.

UM: If that is a concern – and I agree it certainly could be…why would -name deleted- be so willing to protect Ron Paul?

Insider: If I knew that I would tell you. I don’t know…I don’t – that’s what makes me nervous. What are they up to with that? Somebody that high up in political food chain telling you…sayin’ to lay off the Ron Paul – Soros stuff…what for? Why do they care? The Federal Reserve? The IMF? That One-World-Order bullsh-t? Nah…don’t add up. They are up to something and I don’t know what it is. So…f-ck it…I just keep dealing with what I know. With what’s right in front of me. That’s what I do. Figure out what was, what is, and what will be.

UM: Could they want Ron Paul to make a 3rd party run? Or to have people write his name in if he is not the nominee? Have you done any polling to determine if Ron Paul would actually pull more from the Democratic Party side than the Republican side?

Insider: Son, you might have just opened up my own eyes on this. Son-of-a-b-tch….they been playing a whole different game on this. The anti-war…that whole angle. Sh-t…right in front of me and I didn’t see it. Right fu–ing there and I didn’t see it!

Paulding County, Georgia) On the eve of the much anticipated 2012 Georgia ballot eligibility hearing, Obama’s attorney, Michael Jablonski has sent a letter to Georgia’s Secretary of State Brian Kemp stating that Mr. Kemp intervene to halt the hearing.

Mr. Jablonski stated that he intends to suspend further participation in these proceedings, including the hearing scheduled for January 26.

Mr. Jablonski stated in his letter to the court, “Nonetheless, the Administrative Law Judge has exercised no control whatsoever over this proceeding and it threatens to degenerate into a pure forum for political posturing to the detriment of the reputation of the State and your Office. Rather than bring this matter to a rapid conclusion, the ALJ has insisted on agreeing to a day of hearings, and on the full participation of the President in his capacity as a candidate. Hours ago, we became aware of a letter sent from Obama attorney Michael Jablonski to the Georgia Secretary of State. In that letter, Jablonski made it clear than neither he, nor his client, Obama, would appear in a Georgia court tomorrow morning.

The case regarding Obama’s eligibility and his inclusion on the Georgia 2012 presidential ballot is ON.

This evening, the Georgia Secretary of State, the Hon. Brian P Kemp issues the following letter in response to Jablonski!!!

In the first place, Mr big-shot Yankee lawyer, OSAH Rule 616-1-2-.17 cited in your letter only applies to parties to a hearing. As the referring agency the Sec. State ain't party to the candidate challenge hearings scheduled for (and will be held) tomorrow. If your client thinks he's above our law, and chooses not to show up, he does so at his own peril. If you catch my drift, Mr. big-shot Yankee lawyer.

President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico is an act of national insanity. It isn’t often that a president makes a decision that has no redeeming virtues and — beyond the symbolism — won’t even advance the goals of the groups that demanded it. All it tells us is that Obama is so obsessed with his re-election that, through some sort of political calculus, he believes that placating his environmental supporters will improve his chances.

Aside from the political and public relations victory, environmentalists won’t get much. Stopping the pipeline won’t halt the development of tar sands, to which the Canadian government is committed; therefore, there will be little effect on global warming emissions (see?). Indeed, Obama’s decision might add to them. If Canada builds a pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific for export to Asia, moving all that oil across the ocean by tanker will create extra emissions. My inner Lemming makes me continue (like the Hitler Channels) to document the same-old, same-old about this horrid little man, Obama.. I guess because I do appreciate when some Stauffen-esque character finds the guts to place a "bomb" under the leader's chair. You never know when one will actually do the job.

.... a 19-year-old English woman said Newt sexually assaulted (raped) her after she met him at a pub near the Oxford University in 1969
.... in 1978 Newt raped another woman in an Arkansas hotel room
.... far from being the college professor he claims to have been, Newt won't release any document that proves he even graduated from kindergarten
.... Speaker, Newt "earmarked " funds that enriched his wife.
.... In 1996, Speaker Newt certified Bob Dole (as a presidential candidate) in spite of the fact that the Kansas Republican Party refused to certify him, thus committing fraud.

Let's hope it's none of those things. Nobody could possibly overcome such scandal. No Republican anyway.

‘Yes, yes, yes,’ he says, almost gleefully,” when asked about the prospect of Occupy turning violent, writes Arlidge.

Soros claimed the riots will “be an excuse for cracking down and using strong-arm tactics to maintain law and order, which, carried to an extreme, could bring about a repressive political system, a society where individual liberty is much more constrained, which would be a break with the tradition of the United States.”

“At times like these, survival is the most important thing,” Soros continued.

“I am not here to cheer you up. The situation is about as serious and difficult as I’ve experienced in my career,” Soros said.

Whose excuse? The Democrats? Don't make me laugh. Any effort by American citizens to face up to this threat would be an excuse for Democrats to crack down on us. A Republican president? Possibly, but unlike the press in 1863, when rioters threatened the peace, today's media will condemn any such effort at self defense. I do happen to think Soros is right, but most of us have seen it formulating for a long time— like since 11/2008. Soros's pronouncements here could be interpreted by his minions as marching orders, and I think he knows it.
