New Delhi: The names of Academy Awards winners are a closely guarded secret until the envelope is opened during the Oscar night. But Google, armed with its search statistics takes a go at predicting the winners at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.

The search engine giant has closely analysed the search trends over the last three years to identify indications that point towards the actual winners who took the gold statues home.

In a post its official blog, Google has revealed who according to what people search for in the run up to the Oscar ceremony may emerge as the winner. Here’s a list of Google’s picks for Oscars 2012:

Best Picture

Data from the last to years showed that the one with the the lowest search volume throughout the year was the winner. By that logic Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close could be the surprise winner.

However, by search popularity The Artist or Midnight in Paris have the best chances.

Best Actor

According to Google, the pattern emerging over the past few years is that the winner is generally in the middle of the pack in terms of searches and first-time nominee Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) fits that bill, but so does George Clooney (The Descendants). Google places its cursor on George Clooney.

Best Actress

For the past three years, the eventual Best Actress winner witnessed a spike of interest in the preceding December. And therefore Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is the clear breakout star.

New Delhi : John Abraham and Chitrangada Singh starrer ‘I, Me Aur Main’ is set to hit theatres July 27.

The Reliance Entertainment, Rose Movies and Pollen Entertainment co-production is set against an urban backdrop and narrates the story of a man and his relationship with five women. It marks the directorial debut of Kapil Sharma, son of noted astronaut Rakesh Sharma.

Apart from Chitrangada, the other women in John’s life in the film will be essayed by Prachi Desai, Raima Sen, Mini Mathur and Zareena Wahab.

“‘I, Me Aur Main’ is a fun and refreshing film. It’s a feel good story about a self obsessed man’s relationship with the five most important women in his life, he takes for granted. We are very pleased with the way the film has shaped up and are excited about its release,” Sanjeev Lamba, CEO, Reliance Entertainment, said in a press statement.

Co-producer Goldie Behl said, “The film is an urban commercial genre with a novel concept. It’s a John Abraham you’ve never seen before and the film is sure to strike a chord with today’s youth.”

Dubai: India’s Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina edged out Shuai Peng of China and Chinese Taipei’s Su-Wei Hsieh to book a place in the doubles final of the Dubai Duty Free Women’s Tennis Championships.

The second seeded Indo-Russian pair took an hour and 40 minutes to beat their opponents in the super tie-break, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (13/11) here late Friday night. The duo converted five of the seven break points on offer while Hsieh and Peng could manage only three from eight and that proved to be their downfall.

Sania and Vesnina will face the top-seeded American pair of Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond in the final on Saturday night. The Americans have won eight straight games and are gunning for their third consecutive title, having won in Paris (Indoors) and Doha before this.

New Delhi:  The CBI has registered a fresh case in connection with alleged irregularities in awarding BSNL’s Wimax franchise to a private firm, considered close to ex-Telecom Minister A Raja, and carried out searches across four cities.

Nine teams of CBI officials searched the residences of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials and the officials of Starnet, the alleged beneficiary which got the franchise, in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Gurgaon, CBI sources said.

The agency has not named Mr Raja in the present case, they said.

It is alleged that Starnet Communication was given letter of intent for the WiMax franchise of BSNL for its six circles despite the fact that it was not eligible for the same and fudged its balance sheet to grab the deal.

The eligibility conditions stipulated that the company should have a turnover of Rs. 100 crore and above which was allegedly achieved by manipulation in the balance sheets by Starnet, the sources said. The anti-corruption watchdog Central Vigilance Commission has also found alleged irregularities in the allotment of franchise to Starnet.

Citing unnamed US officials, the newspaper said the latest assessments by US spy agencies are broadly consistent with a 2007 intelligence finding that concluded that Iran had abandoned its nuclear weapons program.

The officials said that assessment was largely reaffirmed in a 2010 National Intelligence Estimate, and that it remains the consensus view of America’s 16 intelligence agencies, the report said.

The report came after the International Atomic Energy Agency warned that it continued to have “serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear program”.

The Times said there was no dispute among American, Israeli and European intelligence officials that Iran had been enriching nuclear fuel and developing some necessary infrastructure to become a nuclear power.

But the Central Intelligence Agency and other intelligence agencies believe that Iran has yet to decide whether to resume a parallel program to design a nuclear warhead — a program they believe was essentially halted in 2003, the paper noted.

Intelligence officials and outside analysts believe there is another possible explanation for Iran’s enrichment activity, the report said.

They say that Iran could be seeking to enhance its influence in the region by creating what some analysts call “strategic ambiguity”, the paper noted.

Rather than building a bomb now, Iran may want to increase its power by sowing doubt among other nations about its nuclear ambitions, The Times said.

The other leading lady, Anushka Sharma is expected to join the team in London soon. The schedule is expected to last a little over a month.

Bangalore: The Karnataka Fire Department on Saturday admitted lapse in the Bangalore mock fire drill case where a woman lost her life on Friday.

The DG of the Fire Department has admitted that there were serious lapses.

“What happened was unfortunate. We do admit there could have been procedural lapses and we are investigating into it but what we will do now is that we shall look into our safety operating procedures and make our mock fire drills more secure, ” said AR Infant.

The mock drill turned deadly on Friday after a 25-year-old woman died while climbing down a rope.

The cell phone video was meant to show off how courageous Nalina is, but within minutes of taking the leap, Nalina was dead.

It was a mock fire drill to teach safety techniques to the 1,200 employees of Bombay Rayon, a garment factory in Bangalore and Nalina volunteered to jump off the third floor only to find the rope snapping. Shocked colleagues and fire police officials watched as she fell to her death.
