We welcome stories of people and places around the world. It’s time to think about news differently and to find stories which haven’t yet been told. Documentary Photojournalism has been dying for years - Demotix is the perfect place to revive it. Social, environmental, cultural, political… this is the perfect time to upload those stunning stories from your archive, and show them off to the world.

Prizes:

• First Place: the opportunity to turn your photojournalism into a beautiful coffee-table book. Blurb, custom book publishers for the masses, will allow the winner to produce and customize their own bookstore-quality book or books, up to the value of £50.

Theme: ‘Cultural Peace.’
We would like to see a set of images that give Light to your culture or a culture you have endevoured to explore.

Each photographer will submit 10-30 images to fill the gallery space. There will be a gold placement for the solo exhibition at the Center, a silver and bronze placement of the photographer’s entire gallery submission in the online gallery with selects from different submissions of single images as awards of excellence.

Global Woman is a premier quarterly magazine and monthly webzine that covers the latest issues on women around the world.  The publication serves to connect women from coast to coast and beyond, catering to their needs and giving voice to the many issues that affect their daily lives. Global Woman is a celebration of the woman’s life from childhood to adulthood.

Theme: What is a global woman?

This photo contest offers photographers an opportunity to capture and share their vision of the essence of a Global Woman.

Prizes:

• 1st prize is $1,000 and the winner will have their photo printed full page, in the magazine, with a bio printed inside, and showcased on the Global Woman website.
• 2nd prize is $500 and the winner will have their photo printed in the magazine and on the website.
• 3rd prize is $300 and the winner will have their photo printed in the magazine and on the website.
• Along with the winners, the honorable mentions will be published in the 4th Edition of the magazine in a 6 – 8 pg spread, and may be published on our website in a slideshow as well. Those honorable mentions will each receive a $25 gift card or one year subscription to GW magazine.

Camera Obscura accepts for competition any photography-based artwork. The artwork need not consist exclusively of photography. Photography-based mixed media artworks are encouraged for submission, in addition to straight photography.

• Professional (This category is reserved for photographers who earn more than 25% of their income from photography)
  Prize - $1,200 and publication. Selected finalists also receive publication.
• Non-professional (Entrants in the non-professional category may also enter the professional category.)

Theme: Elements of Water

Water is both physical and symbolic. Water can be a solid, liquid or gas. It covers 71% of the earth’s surface. Water fascinates us with the way it moves and transforms. It can be a destructive force and a life giving element. Without it we would not survive, but too much and our lives would be drastically altered. Elements of Water Will showcase how diverse water can truly be.

Exhibition and Awards: With selection for this exhibition, artists and their work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and others who appreciate the fine art of photography.

• Juror’s Selection Award: $300
• Director’s Selection Award: $200
• Artists’ ShowCase Online Awards: Two artists will receive a year subscriptions to Artists’ ShowCase Online, a $120 value
