Bella is a beautiful 18-month-old girl who came to CGRR from owners whose work schedules changed. Bella was being left alone too much, and they wanted more for her.

We were told that her favorite thing to do is to play with other dogs! She loves dogs, and she plays hard. She has gone out with a 98lb dog, and it is sometimes too much for him!

Bella has a good demeanor and is very sweet, but she really needs some basic training. She didn't have many rules in her previous home, and she is a very active girl. She is house-trained and crate-trained, and would need to be in a crate when left alone.

We feel Bella would do best in an active home.... Perhaps someone who is looking for a walking and hiking buddy. This girl needs to be kept busy. She is very trainable, but needs rules and boundaries. She needs work on the leash and just basic manners. Steve would be happy to throw in some lessons in your home to help get Bella started on the right track.

As Bella is jumpy and also does not understand "personal boundaries," we feel a home with older or no children would be best.

Ricky was adopted as a pup , and the folks who adopted him were active, going on lots of walks/hikes, going camping, and kept him busy. They had a couple of kids and their routine changed, as it does with young ones.

We are not sure what exactly changed, but we feel that Ricky may not have been getting exercised enough, and kind of took a back seat. He did live with 2 other dogs, but that did not help his anxieties.

He would get destructive when left alone. He needs to gain some self confidence.  

Ricky is a great dog, very sweet, housetrained, good with other dogs, kids, he loves everyone. We feel he would do well in an active home, where he gets exercised regularly, and perhaps with people who work from home. He also enjoys being with other dogs.

We thought we had a home for Blue, but things did not work out. Blue needs a home with a dog savvy owner, and he needs clear rules and boundaries.

This 6-year-old boy has a quiet but powerful personality. You can cuddle with him and he will melt your heart, but then when you're done, he gets overly playful and has some bad habits that he learned from his, original home, that can overwhelm a novice dog owner. Because of this we are looking for a home that will love his personality but give him the structure that is needed. So, a home with older or no children would be ideal. Steve has worked with him and he knows the basics and walks well unleash unless there are distractions, then he becomes a Clydesdale, and will pull you across the street. Blue has not been the best with other dogs, so he has had several sessions at a doggie day care/training facility, where he did quite well. Nash is a beautiful 2-year-old boy who has had two homes already. We don’t know anything about his first home. The woman who brought him to us only had him for 6 months. She did not socialize him at all with other dogs, as she was nervous about what his reaction would be. She told us that Nash was a little too much dog for her.

Nash is young and full of energy. When you're outside with him, he will find a toy, pick it up, and run circles around you. Once he gets his sillies out, he'll sit down next to you for some cuddles.

He would benefit from some basic training. Steve has been working with him on eye contact and door, gate manners, but he is excitable and will bolt through if not managed. He may be a bit toy possessive, as when meeting another dog, he did not want to share his toys.

He was quick to learn the routine here and has accepted his environment. He is a quiet boy, and has done everything we have asked of him. So, he would be quick to learn. Nash would benefit from some good training and socialization classes. CGRR would be happy to help get him started if we can find someone willing to commit to working with him. He is a beautiful, loving dog who just needs some structure and rules.

We feel a home with older or no kids would be best for Nash. He is a busy boy, and may be too much for toddlers.

It has been a bit of a stressful month at CGRR. Our special needs boy Shiloh had a seizure last month and another seizure the first week of August. This seizure lasted just over three minutes and was quite violent. We took Shiloh to the ER and while the doctor was examining him, he had another seizure, so they kept him overnight. They started him on a pretty hefty dose of Keppra and phenobarbital.  After meeting with the neurologist, the next week, it was decided to do another MRI on to see if there were any significant changes in his brain. They also did a CSF tap.

The 2 MRI'S were almost exactly the same, so no further deterioration, or swelling or fluid on the brain. The CSF tap was normal as well.

We were told that his seizures could be caused by his condition, or they could be idiopathic. This boy, for his issues, is a pretty tough pooch. He is doing well on the meds, and we hope he does not break through with any more seizures. We have cameras in his area, so we can monitor him. He is back to his happy self, and loves his woobies.

The cost for the ER visit, labs, chest x-rays, MRI, CSF tap and his care was around $4500. Huge thanks to the critical care staff at MedVet, as well as the neurologist for the care and compassion Shiloh received.
