Package!
Always try to package your auto insurance with your other lines of personal insurance. Other lines of insurance include: homeowners insurance, renters insurance and life insurance. Most insurance companies provide discounts if you have more than one line of coverage with them. These discounts can be as high as 15% per policy!

Drive Safely!
Avoiding accidents and tickets over time is very important to lowering your auto insurance rates. With the onset of the internet age insurance companies have easy access to databases which contain information about your driving record and claims history. This information is a key factor in the amount of your insurance premium.

Clean Up Your Credit!
Insurance companies have joined the long list of institutions that use your credit history to determine if you are a favorable customer or not. Believe it or not, your credit standing can impact your auto rates as much as 40%! If you have good credit talk to your agent to make sure you are with a company that gives the highest discounts for customers with good credit. If your credit history is not as good as it should be tell your agent that as well. There are insurance companies that do not penalize poor credit as much as others. One of these companies could very likely save you money. In either case the important thing to know is that credit history does affect your insurance rates!

For more information call or come by Curry Insurance Agency. Our personal lines agent, Lee Newsome, would appreciate the opportunity to sit down with you and get all the information needed to provide you with the best policy and at the best rate for your home and auto insurance needs.

Many families will be adding an ATV to their vehicle list this Christmas season. This is a good time to make sure they are insured properly. There are two issues that are a concern with ATV insurance, liability and physical damage. In most cases liability insurance for ATVs can be added to your home owner’s policy. If you are using your ATV for non personal activities you will most likely need additional coverage. If you are interested in covering your ATV for physical damage, your home owner’s policy might be appropriate but discuss this with your agent. In some cases an additional policy is needed or the ATV can be added to your auto policy.

The best advice when it comes to ATV insurance is to call Lee Newsome with Curry Insurance Agency and discuss your options. 478-272-2335 or toll-free 800-596-5664, or come by our office at 1825 Veterans Blvd., Dublin, GA 31040. You can also contact us on-line.

We live in a very litigious society and one can never be too protected. A Personal Umbrella Policy is effective in protecting you from lawsuits that arise from personal automobile accidents and other non-business endeavors. Your homeowner’s policy most likely includes personal liability of $300,000 to $500,000, and your personal auto policy most likely has limits of $300,000. An Umbrella Policy will over arch both of these policies and increase each limit to the desired amount, usually $1,000,000. These policies are typically less than $200 per year for a typical risk. That is a great deal of peace of mind for a low premium.

Most homeowners believe that if a neighbor’s tree falls on their house that the neighbor is responsible.

That is usually not the case.

When a tree falls due to natural causes and hits property, the owner of the property is responsible. For someone to be held responsible for property damage they must be negligent in some way. So, if a neighbor has a tree that is dead and is putting your property at risk, write them a certified letter and kindly ask them to remove the tree. If you take this step it will increase the likelihood that if the tree falls and damages your property, the neighbor’s insurance will pay.

For more information on what your homeowner’s policy covers, call or come by to see Lee Newsome at Curry Insurance today.

There are two issues at play when it comes to coverage for a rental car. First, and most important, is the issue of whether or not your policy includes rental coverage, sometimes called “transportation expense,” on the vehicle in question. Rental coverage is on a per car basis so it could be on one car and not the other. A car with full coverage most likely has rental coverage.

The second issue has to do with the reason the car is in the shop. If the car is in the shop for a malfunction or engine type work then insurance does not cover a rental car in this instance. However, if your car is in the shop for repairs that are covered by insurance then the rental car coverage is available. Rental car coverage usually pays up to $30 per day for a maximum of 30 days.

Contact Curry Insurance Agency or your insurance provider to see if your policy has rental coverage.

If you rent your home, having insurance protection for yourself and your possessions is still very important. There is a misconception among many who rent a house or apartment that they are covered under the landlord’s policy and that just is not the case. A landlord’s policy will cover the building structure, not a tenant’s personal property. So to not have renter’s insurance is a gamble that most renters can’t afford to make but it happens every day.

Just like with a homeowner’s policy, renter’s insurancecovers you in the event of fire, water damage, theft or other unforeseen situations that can leave one having to replace their belongings. It also provides personal liability coverage in the event someone is injured while visiting your home. The personal property coverage will cover items such as furniture, electronics, computers, jewelry, clothing, etc. It is a good idea to take inventory of items you own to decide what level of coverage makes you comfortable.

In addition to protecting yourself and your possessions, another reason to have renter’s insurance is to save on your premiums when you purchase a home. When you purchase a home and shop for homeowner’s insurance one of the questions asked is whether you have had prior insurance coverage. If you answer no, it is very likely your premium will be higher. Sometimes the increase is as much as 25% and many companies will not even offer a quote.

If you rent a house or apartment, make sure you have the coverage you need. Contact Lee Newsome at Curry Insurance for a quote on a renter’s insurance policy that can be tailored to fit your needs. It is very reasonably priced and could save you money in the future.

The single best way to protect your investment in your home is by owning a homeowner’s insurance (HOI) policy. Let’s take a look at each section of coverage that normally appears in a HOI policy.

Dwelling. The most effective type of coverage for the home in which you reside is replacement cost coverage. Payment based on the replacement cost is usually the most favorable figure from your point of view because it compensates you for the actual cost of replacing property. The key to determining how much dwelling coverage you need isn’t the value of your home but rather the money you’d have to pay to rebuild it.

Other Structures. Examples of other structures covered by HOI would be a detached garage, workshop, storage building, barn, etc. Your policy covers all of the other structures that might be located on your property besides the home itself. The same coverage rules apply here as the dwelling insurance – the total amount of coverage should be high enough to rebuild the entire structure if completely lost.

Contents. In the case of the contents, an inventory of items room by room is important to have with information such as the date purchased, serial number, the original cost of each item and a brief description. Video tape or still photos is very helpful along with the inventory. These items should be stored in a safe place such as a safety deposit box in a bank and not in the home. Limitations are normally set for high-cost items such as jewelry, fine art, furs, electronics, collectibles, oriental rugs and antiques. If a thief comes in and steals a two-carat engagement ring, it may not be covered well enough without a personal property rider to cover specific, costly items.

Liability. As a homeowner, you automatically assume some responsibility for what happens in and around your home. Homeowner’s liability insurance provides for protection in the event someone gets hurt or property is damaged. In case of either event, or a combination of the two, you are at risk of severe financial loss as a result of being found liable. In addition to covering medical expenses or cost of repairs, the liability part of your HOI usually pays for court costs should a lawsuit arise. Don’t skimp on your liability limits!

Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of Home Owners Insurance coverage. It’s a good idea to read your policy and become familiar with what is covered and is not covered. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that a policy covers you for more things than you originally thought.

If you have a question about your homeowner’s policy or would like a free quote, call Lee Newsome, Personal Lines Agent at Curry Insurance Agency 478-272-2335 or toll-free 800-596-5664.
