It may not be quite as hip to reference Kinfolk now that we’re all aware and obsessed, but at the time that we met Shauna and Alex, Kinfolk was in its infancy and had yet to see the likes of an Anthropologie shelf. I had happened to have already heard of the light-inspired group of small-gathering artists when some west coast friends began doing shoots for them. When Shauna sheepishly mentioned the little-known magazine as a point of inspiration for her wedding, the four of us clicked on a mutual love of small gatherings, enjoying friends’ company over good food, and a love of natural light and 35mm and medium format film. Shauna trickles her inspiration tumblr with some of her own photography, which is beautiful. I love shooting for like-minded artists. Shauna and Alex are a joy. I am sure I will be incorporating into their wedding as many rolls of film as I can afford (of course along with the usual digital getup… for the time being *wink wink*).

Meet Shauna and Alex:

Damon and I were walking down a sidewalk to dinner, both pushing a stroller. He didn’t have to say much, only “whoa”. I suddenly saw us from the perspective he had, from the outside, watching us. Dads.

So this is where we are. Damon married my sister four years ago, the same summer I married Jordin. I look at Kinsey, their 10 month old, and I look at the little boy sleeping in my lap right now with no words. I only wonder how the two of them will interact. I loved growing up with my cousins, riding the tractor at their cottage and performing entire Disney movie musicals on the kitchen counter, next to a board of Chinese checkers. The counter was our stage. Rachel was always the director. Jordin and I will be shooting her wedding next month.

There isn’t a specific word I have found to identify this strange feeling of reverse nostalgia. Longing, blissful thoughts not of the past, but of now and the future. We are now the parents in our own childhood memories. I am the uncle. There is a new story beginning, and we have all switched parts.

I am so thankful.

Some more of Casen and his mommy, from the last few weeks of his existence.

If you haven’t met Casen in person or on facebook yet, here are a couple pictures from today. He is the absolute light of our life. Casen Micah Wiklund, your mommy and daddy love you more than they ever thought would be possible.

I shoot a lot of home videos. When Jordin and I go to her parents’ house, I always bring my camera, because our baby siblings are the most entertaining little munchkins in the world. A while back, Jordin’s dad was speaking about adoption and foster-care at a men’s retreat and asked if I have any footage of Michael and Jayden. Yeah, probably over 100 hours of it. These are the clips I put together. I love them!

We had a friend recently try to pin one of our pictures from Facebook, but couldn’t because Facebook doesn’t allow Pinterest pinning. So I’m posting some of our recent Facebook pictures here on the blog. Pinterest is awesome for gathering ideas and inspiration, and if something we post somewhere sparks an idea for you, you are welcome to pin it!

Here’s a little peek back at some of our personal pictures in 2012. I grabbed some pictures from California, some from New York, our new niece being born, and just home stuff with our families. Thanks Jordie for being my best friend. Can’t wait to become mommy and daddy with you this year.

Jordin and I went to California in May for our three year anniversary, and we’re already brainstorming about when we can go back. We were MADE for the coast. It’s so beautiful and makes me feel so small. When I look out at the ocean, everything I’m stressed about suddenly feels very small and I can breath again. We’re going to take our little man there as soon as we can. I want to take him on a road trip up the coast in the Fall, just starting in LA and going up to wine country, stopping at every view and taking a picture of him against every California coast backdrop there is.
