Er zijn weinig jobs waarvan je op voorhand weet dat ze ongelooflijk leuk gaan zijn. Deze show was er een van.

Een heleboel meisjes bij elkaar, plussize-gemotiveerde stylistes, prachtige kleding en een super professionele organisatie. Het werd grote tijd om in onze buurt een mooie plussize catwalkshow te houden, of beter gezegd 'inbetweenie show' Een geweldig woord gelanceerd door Edith Domen van Style Has No Size. Het spreekt voor zich, alle maatjes die 'in between' zijn kwamen aan bod. wat een positiever woord dan de term 'plus-size!

Terug naar de show, het was een avond vol positieve spirit. Erg leuk voor mij was om andere Nederlandse en Belgische plussize modellen te leren kennen. Met een paar had ik al eens gewerkt, sommige andere eens in de vluchte tijdens een pauze op een shot gezien, maar nooit lekker in groep kunnen kletsten als hier. Er werden volop ervaringen en tips uitgewisseld onder het goedkeurend oog van het team visagisten en kappers, en uiteraard - zoals het in een inbetweenie show hoort - met genoeg lekkere hapjes en broodjes. Het voelde helemaal niet als werken! Dat zijn natuurlijk de leukste jobs.

Dan komt het leukste gedeelte: de runway. De paar seconden voor ik voor het eerst opmoet had ik even zenuwen 'NIET VALLEN NIET VALLEN' maar het moment dat ik tussen al die kijkende mensen stond, was het geweldig. Natuurlijk ging ik niet vallen, noch m'n schoen of jurk verliezen. Verstand op nul en recht naar voor kijken. De adrenaline stroomde door m'n lijf wanneer je terugloopt, tegen dan had ik door dat alles perfect ging zoals het hoorde,en dan snel omkleden voor de volgende sectie!

Ik zou heel graag meer van deze shows hebben in de plussize wereld. Zowel om naar te kijken, en om mee te lopen.

Hopelijk is hier een nieuwe trend gezet!

There are only a few jobs where I know upfront it is going to be quite amazing. The Curves on the Catwalk show was definitely one of them. A whole group of gorgeous girls, plus-size minded stylists, great clothing to show and very professional organisation. It was about time there was going to come a good high fashion runway for us plus size girls! Or should I say 'inbetweenie-girls' : a great word lauched by Edith Dohmen of Style Has No Size.
It speaks for itselves: all the inbetween sizes were represented in the show. I love the word, it has a much better vibe on it then plus-size. Which I think I am not, with my size 42, I feel more avarage-size, but that's a whole other story.

Back to the show, it was a night with an amazing positive spirit. For me it was a lot of fun to meet a lot of other Dutch and Belgian models. Some of them I've worked with or seen briefly at a casting, but never was there a chance to chitchat in group like there. A lot of experiences and tips were shared, all under the approving eye from the make-up and hair team. And, as it should be with a plus-size shows, with enough snacks and sandwiches to munch on. How great can my job be!

Then it's time for the most important part: walking the runway. A couple of seconds before it was my turn, I got a little bit nervous – what if I fall down? But the moment when I stood there, with all those people looking at me, I felt very confident. 'Don't think and look straight ahead ' was all that went trough my head, only the moment when I turned around and walked away I realised that I didn't fell, and my shoes and dress were still at the right place! Great! Then off to the backstage again were I had to change quickly into the next outfit, time for the next round!

I feel honored to walk in a great show like this, with such a positive message and I would love to see more plussize runway shows.

Hopefully a new trend has started!

I thought I share some backstage pics from the previous year. I love hanging around on studio sets, altough that also means hard work & long days, but it's so much fun to work with the whole team and get some awsome results!

+ Geen ondoordachte prulletjes aankopen. Ik heb ondertussen genoeg make-up/te hoge pumps/kaarjes/mokken/schattige magneten of zelfs kussens in de kleuren van mijn interieur.
+ geen volledig zwarte outfits meer
+ minder katers (al goed mislukt in deze eerste week van januari)
+ Rijbewijs halen
+ terug fotograferen
+ gewoon genieten van alles wat op me afkomt.

+ I won't buy unnecessary random stuff anymore like make-up/unwalkable pumps/candles/drinkin mugs/cute magnets or even pillows that match my living room interior.
+ no more all black outfits
+ less hangovers (altough already failed this one badly this first week of january)
+getting my drivers license
+ getting back into fotography
+ have fun & enjoy everything that comes on my path

Zonder een kant te kiezen, wil ik jullie graag deze vergelijkingen laten zien. Het Belgische merk Xandres heeft een heerlijke plussize lijn, met erg goede stukken die ook effectief voor een plussize lichaam gemaakt zijn. Dus niet gewoon een kledingstuk in wat grotere maten, maar echt een andere pasvorm en model, wat bij vele merken helaas gewoon het geval is. Ook geweldig is dat ze er een hele campagne aan wijden, al vertoont die wel meer dan een paar opvallende gelijkenissen met de gewone lijn. Ik vind het geweldig om ze zo eens naast elkaar te zetten en het verschil te zien. Telkens zijn de modellen en kleding prachtig! Links zie je telkens Belgisch topmodel Hannelore Knuts. Plussize model van dienst is Deborah, mijn collega bij BrigitteModels.

Misschien zouden editors van magazines dit eens moeten bestuderen, en zo tot de conclusie komen dat ze met plussize modellen ook een breed publiek kunnen aanspreken én absoluut even stijlvolle modefoto's kunnen maken. En dan nog liefst zonder grote titels zoals 'Ook mooi met maatje meer' Nee, gewoon zonder grote aankondiging dat ze toch wel een plussize model gebruiken. Ik ben er zeker van dat er veel geld valt te verdienen wanneer merken een gevarieerder gamma aan modellen toont. Dus laten we hopen dat iemand met invloed in de mode-wereld deze mening deelt!

Without trying to choose sides, I would like to show you these image comparisations. Belgian brand Xandres has, next to their normal one, a wonderfull plussize line. Unlike other brands, the garnments have a different cut and model than the normal line, which is what plussize clothing is all about!
Just like every year, they have made a stylish campaign. And this time, it looks quite a lot like the normal line. It's great to see them next to each other, there is no other conclusion then to say it all looks look ravishing, both the models and the clothes! On the left you see Belgian topmodel Hannelore Knuts, and on the right size 14 Deborah, my BrigitteModels colleague.

This could be a perfect opportunity for magazine editors to see that plussize models can appeal to a broad public. You càn make stylish, tastefull fashionstory'. Preferably so without a big title that they do use curvy or plussize models.
I'm sure there's a lot of money to be made when some brands use a diversity of models. So lets hope someone with power in the fashionworld shares my opinion!

I'm going to do my blog both in Dutch and English from now on, and please don't mind the grammar mistakes too much, everytime it's harder then I thought. You'll get the whole story, so that's the most important thing :)

Wouldn't she make a perfect plus-size model? I can't stop looking at this very stilish shoot for Billboard Magazine. Although she doesn't want to be known for her looks, there is no denying she is absolutely gorgeous.

Okay.

Here I am again, let's all just forget the fact I didn't update this thing for months, and just get started again.

There are so many plus size things going one recently that I have the need to share it again. So be prepared for some curvy updates and pics. Yay!

Here's a shot of one of my newest tests hoots. Models need those to show clients how they rock being a model. Catalogue shots won't get you booked, so you'll need to put on German-style fall outifts to show them you would look good in their own German-style fall lookbook. Sounds logic, right?

So here is my own little fall look for the moment :)

Hi everyone,

Remember that week I was in Spain for a swimsuit catalog? I got some results in, but only allowed to share one. Because the collection is for 2012, I can't reveal too much off course, so it's only a small teaser.

I am quite happy about it, it brings out my curves pretty well, so that's what it's all about, right.

I think it's great that brands are experimenting and starting up plus size lines. Which brings me to the next topic: I was very pleased to see that American Apparel are starting a plus size line (or just the same pieces in bigger sizes, which is awesome as well) and combining that with a model search!
Good news for all of us girls with a beginning modelling career/wish. The winner will be flown in to Los Angeles for the shoots!

Sooo, I entered the competition and it would be really nice if you have a look at the pictures. And if you think I would be suitable to be the face of AA, you can vote for me! Yay!

Quick update, because actually I should be sleeping already..

but guess what, I'm on Glamour.com !! The launching of new webshop Clique to know got a lot of press, even up to glamour. I'm super excited! check it out! HERE !

this week, I've been featured on curves and chaos, the lovely blog of Monique, about one of my jobs I did recently for a German plus size webshop, shown above. Altough it's simple catalogue work, I quite like the shots.

I'm allso in the German/Dutch/Belgian magazine Big is Beautifull, in a little article about a new Dutch fashion designer Layla Kuhnen who made a dress for Adele.
yep, the amazing plus-sized awsome singer! It was a handmade, tailored dress for her. how cool is it that I'm in the press-shots!

And, as if that was not enough, clique to know has released a preview shot on their homepage, can't wait to see them all! At the end of june the shop will launch, but I will show some more previews on here soon! (yes, I'm allowed to do it before the release date, that makes it even more fun)

hello everyone,

Lots of exciting things happened the last weeks. I spent half a week in London doing a shoot for a new onlineshop that's about to be launched in a few weeks, they will sell designer stuff from size 10. Always good that there are coming more and more shops like this.
The shoot was for promotional use, as I will be the face of the shop! Yeey ( have a look & sign up!)

I spent a couple of more days just sightseeing & doing some castings. Hopefully I will get more work in London from now on, because I totally fell in love with the city!

While I was there, I visited the Oxford Street-located Primark, and bought almost every single thing there.. Here's a preview, all Primark: shoes, top and jeans legging.

Hello,

Last week City Chic presented their new collection on the L'Oreal Melbourne fashion week, and all the girls looked lovely. It's the first year City Chic is in the program from Melbourne fashion week, so let's hope they will continue doing this!

That can't be said about Elena Miro, just like last season they had their show outside the Milan Fashion week tents, and set one up for theirselves. Its a shame Milan FW won't have this great brand for plus size women anymore, although they were the show that opened the week for the past years..

So here is your next winters inspiration!

I think I don't wear enough jewelery then I would like to. I have loads of earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets, but for an unknown reason, I just don't really take them from their little holders.
I have decided not to spend money on anything silvery/metal untill I wear the ones I have a bit more.

I'm tring to get a facebook-button on the side, but untill now I haven't succeeded.. but if you search for Curves are the new black, you can become a folower on facebook! Maybe twitter's next, who knows :)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the nice comments on the bathing suit, I'm still in doubt wether to buy it or not, but I'll keep you posted on that.

While I was in Spain last month, another model and I where having fun with taking 'polaroids' of each other. That's a name for just snapshots, so the client from a modeling agency can see how the models look like without make-up, styling and photoshop. It's always good for a model to have recent ones.

Next post I will be showing photographs I took from another plussize model. I'm busy editing them now, so I think I'll put them up soon.

Just when I told you all (and myself) that I wasn't going to buy a new bikini/swimsuit, I saw a perfect one hanging in a local underwear store. Ofcourse I couldn't resist trying it on (I didn't even had money on me to buy it) and it fitted great. I love the ruffles, fabric and the little cross on the bust. I
I might go back and buy it after all, should I?

Another update from the great & hot Andalucia. We're finished shooting, so all we did today was a little sunbathing & sightseeing. Great job isn't it :)

The bikini is almost 5 years old, I didn't really like it anymore, but it was the only one I could find when I was (last minute) packing. Now I wore it a bit again, I quite like it! t was an expensive bikini and it suited my body well, and actually it still does. So maybe I can save on buying a bikini for upcomming summer, now I've rediscovered this one!

Oh and the dress is from Zara, bought it just today in the last sales for just 5.95!

At the moment i'm in Spain to shoot a french swimwear catalog. I'm the only & first plus size model for this brand (I'll tell you later which one) so I'm very excited to be a part of this!

I'll be here until monday, so I hope the snow in Belgium is gone by then (yes, snow!) but I'll have a nice tan anyway when I go home, since I'm walking around all day in swimwear.

Previously I talked about all little (or not so little) changes you can achieve with make-up, today it's about photoshop!

Normally I do my photography stuff the classic way, with films and a darkroom. Not the pictures on my blog though, too expensive & time consuming, so I run the digital blogpics trough photoshop to play with the curves and colors. But it's always nice to erase a pimple, dark circles under my eyes or put on more make up. So here's another post that normally I don't share, but maybe it's nice to see this once too.

So what do you think, did I overdo it like some of the photoshop disasters out there, or was I a good digital girl and didn't exagurate?

Will be packing for spain pretty soon, I'm going on a job for a week on monday. yay!

Fake it & Make it

Hi everyone,

I have something totally different for you all today. I was making pictures of my lovely MaxAzria dress, when later that evening I saw a video (seriously, watch it) that made me think about all the fuss I go trough to make the pics.

I wore the dress all day, took a shower, and then, believe it or not, put some make up on at night just to make the outfitshots, took it off and went to bed...

Why do I do this? why don't I just show you all what I look like without the make up. So that's what I'll do today. The make up free pics were just some shots to test the light, but just this once I'm putting them up too.

I know I'm not as addicted (or fake) as the girls in the video, thank god, nor do I have the needs to talk to a giant camera lens, so here goes!

Dress is MaxAzria and I adore it, this is the actual reason I have this blog. This dress looks waaay better on us curvy girls then it would on let's say Keira Knightley. (no offence here, Keira)

Some of you asked me how tall I was and what size I wear: I'm 174 cm and have a size 42 (tops also 40 if I want them tight)

I'm thinkgin about doing a Q&A, would there be any interest in that?

I often wear the same things twice, because they smell bad (smoke law, where are you?)

I was looking for a lace dress or top like this, because my other black lace top from eBay is way to small for me after only 1 machinewash..

Hooray for my new favorite party wear :)
