Designers do not cut from the body form, and this also applies to plus size fashion. Each designer cuts to a specific aesthetic. And THIS is okay. With the plethora of plus size body shapes, there are designers who design with YOU in mind. You just have to get out there and experiment with who caters to your curves.

There are three different general type of categories:

• Missy (Womens)- more relaxed and conservative in cut. Fuller shapes, longer hemlines in dresses and skirts
• Contemporary- Somewhat body conscious, a more sophisticated and tailored cut. Some pieces and designers play with different and newer type of fits and cuts. Hems can be both shorter or longer than the Missy or Junior Plus size cuts.
• Junior Plus Size- More body conscious (read: Fitted). You can many times  find yourself in larger sizes in junior plus than in traditional plus sizes. And this is okay. Shortest hems, deeper v-necks, more revealing and edgy in its cuts.

The key to working through this is by trying on a variety of designers to find out which ones cater to your designer aesthetic, lifestyle, and tastes. This issue is not exclusive to plus size women- while there is a more universal size range in straight sizes, this issue ALSO is an issue for the 0-12 sized woman.
