Tacticool or Metrosexual? You Decide

While reading one of our favorite blogs, Soldier Systems, I came across an article about the “Travel Shirt”. Apparently the owner of Beyond Tactical came up with it and has been wearing around for a while now. There’s a photo in the article and I must say, I’m not feeling it. Looks a little too feminine to me.

For starters I’m not a big fan of “tactical clothing” for everyday wear to begin with, I get a kick out of the SHOT Show uniform every time I go. But this doesn’t even go in that direction, I can’t put my finger on it I think it kinda reminds me of something out of early 90’s Europe with a touch of tactical by way of sleeve pockets, maybe Germany in a “touch my monkey” kinda way?

Anyway, for those of you that might be more in touch with your feminine side (of course you will say “secure in your manhood”), Beyond apparently has said if there’s enough interest they will produce it for the masses.

This article is not meant to be a dig on Beyond they make great stuff, but this shirt was just too much fun to pass up. You of course can form your own opinion.

Soldier Systems and PEO Soldier have written articles about the Army’s move to allowing Soldiers to camo their weapons after they get the thumbs up from Command.

Well if you were interested in seeing how the Army wants it’s personnel to go about it, check out their handy little guide. Wonder if this will become an EIB task at some point?

762 Tactical – Chi Com Chest Rig

Ok this has been a long time in the works. Colin from 762 Tactical sent us a Chi Com Chest Rig for review a few months back and we’ve finally gotten around to putting a video together for it.

I’ll start by saying I am not an “AK guy” my experience is limited to familiarization training and fun shoots. So I don’t claim to be an expert on it. But the review is not intended to be based on functionality.

My overall impression is that the rig is very well made. This is a basic chest rig just like the original with minimal bells and whistles, just like the weapons system it is designed to be used with. Some nice features include, adjustable flaps, PALS on either side of mag pouches and non snag pouch edges.

My only gripe would be the depth of the pockets, they are deeper than I’d prefer but my guess is that this is in staying true to the original design.

Colin sent me retail pricing but that was a while back, so I’m not too sure if that has changed. I’ll email him and update this article when I get the latest info.

Custom Gear Report Admin Message

So it’s been a while since you’ve seen any new content, for that we apologize. But this is not without reason.

The big news is we have a new member to the CGR family, my wife gave birth to our son last week. So the week before and week after were hectic. The good news is that everyone is doing well.

Since my wife helps me out with the business I am now short handed while she recovers and gets into a routine with the baby. In the meantime I am on my own and trying to catch up.

However just prior to this I was able to shoot a couple videos. One is the Update Video posted below and there will be two follow on gear reviews already filmed that I still need to edit and a couple other planned in the near future.

Part of the reason for this update is to announce that we are now going to be using YouTube as well as viddler to serve the video content. You will be able to access our channel here: http://www.youtube.com/CustomGearReport Be sure to subscribe if you are a YouTube junkie like me.

Of course we will be adding easy to recognize badges to the site soon among other new features so keep an eye out for that.

We are also working with a new camera and new editing software so please be patient while we figure that out.

We’ve been hinting at running a contest for a while now and have finally gotten to the point where we can manage it.

First I want to give a big thanks to the great folks at Bearse USA. Bearse has been kind enough to donate a Blackwater Gear Discrete rifle case in Ranger Green to give to the winner of our first giveaway contest.

Entering is simple and you have the opportunity to gain multiple entries into the drawing.

Here is how you do it:

First entry is to register at the custom gear report. Just click the register link here or in the login box in the top right of the page. You must also confirm your registration though the automatic email that is sent to you.
Next, sign up for our free newsletter. By default this box is checked during your registration so all you need to do is leave it checked at which point you will just have to confirm your email by clinking the link in the separate newsletter message that’s sent to you.
Be one of the top 5 points earners for the site. Of course you need to know how to earn points, that’s pretty easy. You get 10 for registering, 2 points for logging in daily (24 hour period), 5 points per comment and if you choose to write an article for the site 20 points per published post. Work Under the Hood and Various Updates

The Custom Gear Report has has a bit of a tune-up. Although you probably haven’t noticed much on the outside, we’ve been doing a hell of a lot of work on the inside. Including a major upgrade to the core and various features of the site. We’ve also added some new functionality to help us with upcoming giveaway contests.
