Shop local & Shop handmade!

2011-11-26T08:27:00.000-08:00

Some of my favorite Utah locals..

If you live in the Ogden area and have not been to Kaffe Mercantile then shame on you! Just Kidding but you should really drop in. It's such a cozy little cafe and they have fantastic food and drinks. And they have the best customer service around. You'll love it!

I can't say enough good things about Wood Creations in West Haven. Basically it's a store with unfinished wood projects that you take home and make. Here are some of the things I've made..

Not the best pictures but you get the idea :)

How about my favorite local photographer?

He is more of a celebrity now but I'm happy to say I knew him when :) Dustin Izatt Photography specializes in wedding photography and has also recently branched out into Photo Booth rentals. How cool is that? What's a party without a photobooth?!

And how about some of my favorite handmade shops?

Tootsie Tutu Shop

Beautiful hand crafted tutus! You will love the quality. This is my sister's shop :)

Blue Sky Designs

This shop sales adorable boutique quality headbands and hair bows. So adorable!

Jane Font Fine Jewelry

Absolutely stunning handcrafted jewelry with an industrial edge. You can tell how much thought and time goes into each piece. You've got to check out the rest of this shop. Absolutely gorgeous!

It just happens to be Small Business Saturday so go out and support your local shops and shop handmade!

My weekend project

2011-08-10T13:41:00.001-07:00

Several months ago I decided to paint my kitchen table. The top finish was chipping off and the color really wasn't my style. It's an old wood table (with lots of charm) that was actually inherited from my husband's grandpa.

You can see the color in the picture below. The color on the left was what we started with. Sorry for the low quality pictures, they were taken from my cell phone.

A couple weeks ago a friend of mine was selling a set of reupholstered vintage chairs for a steal of a deal. They are a dark & light gray tweed with a beautiful cream floral pattern. I love them! I decided on dark grey for the table as I wanted it to help pull some of the dark color from the chairs and then I'll be able to pair it with a light colored centerpiece.

Here is the finished product! I'll share a better picture after I've styled it. The wall behind the table has nothing on it, besides crayon marks from a very creative two year old. That's my next project and I'm excited!

We are so excited about our new designs. How about this guy?

About a year ago I started working on this owl and for some reason I just couldn't figure out how to finish it. I recently decided to try it with 2 colors (well actually 3 with the whites of the eyes) and it all of a sudden just came together. This is for sure one of my favorite designs to date.

Want to see how it started?

Definitely the starts of something good.. I loved his cute little ear tufts. But I couldn't figure out the wings and body. I definitely wanted him to be different than our classic Tweet Heart owl.

We incorporated our new owl into several new designs including this one..

Owl on the Moon decal set, $25

And this one..

Grow Wise Little Owl, $22

I have some other ideas for this sweet little owl. Coming soon.

I also added this design to the shop:

Paisley Decal Set, $55

Thanks for reading!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I noticed yesterday that it's been over a month since I've blogged last (pathetic, I know).

I don't have many updates as I've been so busy this past month getting holiday orders out the door.

Christmas is in 3 days! I think I'm ready. Just some wrapping left to do.. I hope.

I'll have a few shop updates at the beginning of the New Year.

And maybe I won't even wait a full month to update my blog!

My favorite things..

2010-11-19T17:44:00.000-08:00

One of my favorite features on other blogs are the "Favorite Things" posts. I love finding new ideas and products through them. I saw that 320* Sycamore was having a link party So I decided to join in!

1. Leg warmers for my little ~~baby~~ toddler!

These ones are from my sister's tutu shop, Tootsie Tutu Shop.

Leg warmers + a tutu for $28? Don't mind if I do!

2. Biosilk by Farouk. Like liquid gold, only better.

This stuff takes the frizz out and helps straighten and silken hair.

I've been using it for years and I love it!

3. Kate Spade 2011 Desktop Calendar.

Simple yet stylish monthly planner.

And the illustrations by Jenny Bowers are to die for!

I love anything Kate Spade.

4. My 20 month old loves to wear my shoes so when I saw this book I knew we had to have it.

Fun & short story.

Super adorable illustrations.

5. The Blob Brush Tool in Illustrator. My new BFF.

If you are an Adobe Illustrator user, especially using a tablet, you have got to get acquainted with this tool. And pronto. You won't be sorry you did.

Join the party over at *320 Sycamore!
