Things You should know about s40 phones

Here are some basic facts about your s40 phone:

1. Series 40 devices can only run java (j2me) applications. Unlike s60, it disables/pauses all kinds of running applications (except some games + some file managers) while you are making/receiving a call.

2.It cannot run multiple applications at once. Unless you hack the Control Panel and the apps you can minimize it. But on a normal s40 phone, multitasking is not possible.

3.Your Phone doesnt support any call recorder app. Your s40 phone has built in call recorder which is programmed to beep each 3 second time. It is to maintain privacy... So that you can't record a call secretly (without telling the person on the other side ). You can't bypass it basically (you'll need to edit the .ppm to do that.)

4.You can hide/unhide anything (pictures... songs.. themes.. folders... etc) you have in your gallery. But you cannot hide sms/txt msg. There is no such application yet. But there is an application that can hide your contact numbers (Try smart guard app).

5.You cannont move contact details or sms/txt into your memory card. You need to "back up" them into you pc via "nokia pc suite"

6.Your phone is 100% free from virus. Virus files usually have .exe or .sys for file extension. Your phone doesn't support those files. Some Virus (its actually termed worm) do affect the memory card of your phone to misbehave. But it wont ever damage your phone or have any direct impact on your s40 phone. Just format your memory card to free such worms affected.

Here's a small list of applications that do not run on s40 phones. So please stop requesting for applications of these types:

Barcode scanner
txt blocker
anti-virus (It is basically not needed)
sms hider
Auto sms replier/forwarder
.avi, .mpg or .wmv player

Changing music player,equilizer and radio skins in S40V6

Please note that it is ONLY for s40v6 and NOT for s40v3, s40v5.
For changing skins in s40v6 we cannot follow the old method used for s40v5 using oxycube or mobimb, this is because in s40v6 skins are integrated in themes.

So it is clear that we need to edit the themes to change the skins.

Steps:
1. Select a theme of your choice.

2. Extract the theme with either winzip or winrar in a particular folder. Add music player,equalizer,radio skins to the folder(in which you extracted the theme).
3. Search for the one and only .xml(theme,or maybe theme_descriptor,it varies) file in the extracted files.
4. Open the .xml file using notepad.
5. Now scroll down and add the following before

            replace with musicplayer skin name.nfl">
            replace with equalizer skin name.nfl">


            replace with radio skin name.nfl">


6. Save the .xml file and again compress the whole folder to a zip archive. Now change the extension of zip to nth.

Now apply the theme and try to change the music player theme.

NOTE:
1. NOT TESTED BY ME.
2. I'M NOT SURE IF IT WOULD WORK OR NOT I WANT SOMEONE WITH S40V6 TO TEST THIS.
3. THE SAME CAN BE ACHIEVED USING CARBIDE UI.

Installation Method:
1) Connect your phone pc using data cable. use oxycube software.

Download OxyCube

2) Now Open oxycube and go your phone (:c)
drive. Go to:

c:/hiddenfolders/certificates/auth/

For Authority Certificates.and

c:/hiddenfolders/certificates/user/

For User Certificates.
You shown ext_info.sys default file in this folder. delete this file and copy all files from zip attachment.
Done! now certificate successfully installed your phone.

Recover your forgotten security code in s40

Tools Required :

* Nemesis Service suite (NSS)
* Nokia PC Suite
* Data cable

Install NSS AND NOKIA PC SUITE

Steps :

1. Connect your phone in PC Suite mode (DON'T RUN PC SUITE or EXIT PC SUITE IF IT IS STILL RUNNING)

2. Open Nemesis Service suite (NSS)

3. Then click on scan for new devices button (top right-hand side)

4. Click on phone info button.

5. Now Click on Scan.

6. Select Permanent Memory.

7. Click on Read.

8. It will read the permanent memory file and save it on the disk at following path.

<drive>:\Program Files\NSS\Backup\pm\.pm

9. Open the .pm file using Notepad.

10. Now scroll to the field, and look at the 5th record, your security code is saved there, however you have to do some more steps to find it out

11. Remove all digits at the odd position & its "0....00" tale :
5=31323334350000000000

13. At last, your security code is

12345

In case u get a DEAD phone. then follow steps below,

Step 1, Select only "Manual Flash" & "Dead USB"

Step 2, Attach PPM, CNT (image file), MCU(remame it .c0r),

Step 3, Hit "flash" and "Yes"

Flashing srarting........

Note: when show "POWER ON NOW" Then press power botton

DONE..........

Hey guys this guide is for all the newbies who don't know how to create a modified ppm and flash it to the phone

First of all download your phone's firmware(I recommend using NAVIFIRM)
suppose you have navifirm,using Navifirm download your phone's firmware(only download .ppm, mcusw & .cnt files)

FAQ
1.what is .ppm file?
Ans: it is a file from the firmware which contains all icons,tones,fonts,languages availabe

2.what is .cnt?
Ans: it contains all the contents themes,games,apps,wallpapers provided in a new phone...
now some intro to m0dding

PPMEDITOR- its a PC app. to create or modify .ppm file (I had uploaded two versions, One of them is lite, lite one cannot create a ppm)

NMT- its an alternative to PPMeditor(good for newbies)

First, you need the firmware files to flash your phone. get them from here

or
use navifirm > Your RM number > SW version > any language/color you want.

Online Navifirm is a website. It is better than Navifirm because navifirm use it own download manager to download any firmware. But if you use online navifirm site you can use any download manager to download any firmware.
English is integrated in any of them, but it's better if you D/L by the code underneath the battery
(like 05*****)

e.g. 0564153: RM-411 APAC-MR BD, Latin, BLUE
(for the 5220 I had)

then D/L only the mcusw, ppm and image files
(if you have a modified PPM, don't D/L the PPM from here)

rename only the **.mcusw file to **.c0r

NOW read carefully.... (Don't miss any line)
- Disable/uninstall PC suite, SW Updater (NSU). (just right click on pc suite taskbar icon and click exit)
- Open JAF
  (in case you don't have jaf, D/L from below link)

Connect phone in "PC suite" mode
tick manual flash, factory set and normal mode. Also CRT 308 but it's already ticked.
