Instructions

Step 1 – Die Cut the Backpack

Die cut all of the backpack pieces from DCS Textured Scottish Highland Cardstock using your backpack die set. Cut the accent pieces, straps, and flap details from DCS Pearl Textured Green Curry Cardstock for added contrast and dimension.

Step 2 – Create the Patterned Flap

Die cut the flap insert from your school-themed patterned paper featuring colorful crayons or other classroom images. Adhere it to the inside flap using Bearly Art Glue.

Step 3 – Assemble the Backpack

Fold along all score lines and begin assembling the backpack following your die set instructions. Use Bearly Art glue on the side tabs and bottom for a strong, permanent hold.

Step 4 – Add the Details

Attach the lighter green accent pieces to the front flap, center strap, and pocket closures using liquid adhesive. These layered pieces create realistic stitching and texture that make the backpack look even more authentic.

Step 5 – Build the Front Pockets

Assemble and adhere the two front pockets to the backpack front, making sure they’re evenly spaced before securing them in place.

Step 6 – Add the Closure

Attach small pieces of black Velcro beneath the front strap so the backpack can open and close easily while keeping the contents secure.

Step 7 – Fill and Enjoy

Gather Cardstock & Inks

These are the cardstock colors (plus vellum) used to make this card:
Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock
Mantis Green cardstock

Classic Crest 80# Solar White cardstock and Classic Crest 165# Double Thick Solar White cardstock
Glama Natural Translucent Clear Vellum

Thought it would a nice touch to match several of the distress oxide ink colors to the cardstock. Accordingly, I will cut narrow embellishing strips from the Yellow Jacket, Flamingo and Poodle Skirt Pink. Additionally, I will cut layering panels from Mantis Green.

Stencil the Focal Panel

Using your choice of layering stencils and distress oxide inks, stencil the focal panel. Oxide inks look crisp on black cardstock, however they do lighten up a good bit when dry.

Cut the Card Base & Layer Panels

Firstly, cut the card base and focal panel layer from Lessebo Pitch Black.

Secondly, cut two layering panels from Mantis Green. Only one is shown in the photo below (the other one was hiding off camera) but there should be two.

Thirdly, cut the inside sentiment panel from Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White cardstock.

Die Cut & Adhere the Panels

Using your choice of shaped card dies, cut the card base and all the panels in graduating sizes.

Front: Adhere the green layering panel to the card base and then add the narrow embellishing strips diagonally. Pop up the stenciled panel on foam squares for a little dimension.

Inside: Glue the white sentiment panel to the green layering panel. You’ll notice I used a leftover piece of the stenciled panel to embellish the top of the sentiment panel.

Create the Front Sentiment for Stenciled Birthday Card

Next, use your choice of sentiment dies to create the front sentiment. Pink, black and white were used here for the outlines and small ‘birthday’ word. Large ‘happy’ word was cut from Neenah Classic Crest 165# Double Thick Solar White for a little dimension.

Add the Sentiments

Glue the die cut sentiment to the card front, and stamp a sentiment on the inside panel.

Complete the Stenciled Birthday Card

Have to say that I totally love the gorgeous colors of those diagonal embellishing strips. However, because the oxide inks lightened up after they dried, the strips are now a little too bold. So let’s tone them down a bit with Glama Natural Translucent Clear Vellum. Worked like a charm!

Afterwards, add tiny green gemstones to five of the flower centers.

Finally, adhere the sentiment panel to the inside of the card base, and your stenciled birthday card is complete!

Creating the Embellishments

First, I cut the button and strings off of the Kraft String and Button Envelopes. I felt these would make a really interesting feature to my scrapbook layout and also a great way to use up as many parts of the envelopes as possible.

Next, I colored the buttons and string using acrylic paint markers. In order to obtain the brightest color possible, I first prepped the buttons and strings with white acrylic paint and then painted them with colors that closely coordinated with my rainbow-colored paper.

I adhered the rainbow-colored paper and then glued the button and strings down to their coordinating colors on the rainbow paper.

In order to create the flowers, I die cut the remaining portions of the Kraft String and Button Envelopes using a flower metal die set and manual die cut machine. To prep the flowers, I painted them with white gesso. I then colored the flowers with the same acrylic paint markers I had used to color the button and strings.

Finishing Touches

In order to create more dimension to the flowers, I opted to hand stitch through the holes of the flowers using backstitches, chainstitches, and French knots. I also chose embroidery thread that coordinated with the color of the flowers.

I adhered the flowers down in a zigzag pattern on the layout, tucking them behind the strings. Finally, I added my photographs and tucked color coordinated embellishments in and around the flowers.

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here. Have you tried stamping on colored cardstock before? My go-to cardstock for stamping is Classic Crest Solar White cardstock, but I wanted to change it up today. You can achieve a completely different look by stamping on colored cardstock. I chose to stamp on green and khaki cardstock today to make the images look more realistic and natural. 

Step 1

Trim a piece of Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 3 ¾” x 5”. Then, use the leaf embosser dies from Stampin’ Up’s Nature’s Root die set to create a leafy patterned embossed background. 

Step 2

Once the base panel is created, we can move on to stamping. I decided to stamp on Environment Desert Storm cardstock today. If you have only tried stamping on Classic Crest Solar White cardstock before, I highly recommend trying the Environment Desert Storm cardstock as well! It’s a great neutral alternative and the final look is so different. The VersaFine Clair Sand Dune ink looks like a richer, darker shade when stamped on Environment Desert cardstock. 

Step 3

Next, dab VersaFine Clair Acorn ink to the outer edges of the stamp with a sponge dauber to create a more realistic look. 

Step 4

For the leaf stamp, I picked DCS Canvas Textured Galax Olive Green Cardstock. This cardstock has an embossed texture, but it’s surprisingly easy to stamp on with VersaFine Clair Shady Lane ink pad. You can see that the textured surface did not hide any of the vein details from the stamp.

Step 5

After all of the images have been stamped, die cut or fussy cut them with scissors. I also die cut a berry branch with DCS Gold Glitter Heavyweight 12 x 12 cardstock. This die is from Stampin’ Up’s Flourish die set. 

Step 6

For the sentiment, I picked “Just for You” and stamped with VersaFine Clair Pinecone ink pad. 

Step 7

Lastly, I tied twine around the background panel to add another natural touch to the card. Then I adhered all of the die cut and stamped elements, and the card is complete!

The starry sky

To begin, I sponged a panel of Savoy 100% cotton cardstock for letterpress using Catherine Pooler inks. I gave that a quick dry with my heat gun then inked up the falling stars press plate with a juicy white pigment ink pad.

When I purchased this letterpress plate, it came with an embossing folder but I didn’t really understand why until this very moment. Notice how the stars are positioned to not overlap so you end up with both letter-pressed and 3D-embossed stars on the panel? How very cool is this effect?!

Setting the scene

When I was a child I had a blue and red tent that I love setting up in the summer so I could sleep outside. I used that tent as my inspiration for the colors I chose here.

• TREES: Pop Tone Jellybean and Lessebo Moss Green cardstocks
• PEGS & GRASS: Lessebo Coffee Bean and DCS Discount Granny Smith cardstocks
• LANTERN: Pop Tone Black Licorice, Pop Tone Lemon Drop and Stardream Metallic Flame cardstocks
• FIRE: Stardream Metallic Flame, Stardream Metallic Jupiter and Discount Sand Castle Tan cardstocks
• GROUND: Glama Brown Kraft cardstock

Coloring the images

Understandably, I really enjoyed coloring up these Lawn Fawn critters using Copics. They’re just ever so cute. Technique-wise, I tried to create a lot of contrast between the sides facing the fire versus the shadow, adding a bit of yellow as well.

Finishing touches

And that brings us to my last couple of steps where I embossed the sentiment in white on a Classic Crest Patriot Blue cardstock banner. Finally, I added some highlighting using a white pigment pen.

When you are crafting a multi-layered card layout, selecting high-quality paper with rich texture is the key to success. Consequently, I brought together a lovely collection of cardstocks from CutCardStock to build this vintage scene. I chose DCS Natural Twine Kraft for my main background panel and paired it with a dark mat of Canvas Vanilla Bean Brown. For the show-stopping frames, I selected CCS Gold Discount Glitter Cardstock . Finally, I assembled everything onto a sturdy base made from Classic Crest Smooth Solar White cardstock.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Die Cutting the Gallery Elements

To begin, I ran my selected cardstocks through my die-cutting machine using my Waffle Flower dies. Specifically, I cut the intricate picture frames from both the CCS Gold Glitter Cardstock and Classic Crest Smooth Solar White. Next, I cut three cute feline shapes from Vanilla Bean Brown using the Postage Collage Cat Silhouettes Dies.

2. Adding Warm Ink-Blended Backgrounds

To make the gallery frames pop, I added soft ink blending to the inner panels. I used a warm combination of Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, and Ground Espresso inks. Starting with a light touch in the center, I gradually deepened the ink toward the outer edges. This simple step creates a dramatic spotlight effect behind each black cat silhouette. Furthermore, I inked the edges of the Natural Twine Kraft background panel to give it a vintage, aged look.

3. Layering the Frames and Silhouettes

After inking, I began building the individual gallery pieces. I adhered the gold glitter frames directly onto the white die-cut frames, offsetting them slightly. This clever technique exposes a thin white border that creates a subtle shadow line. Next, I glued the soft, ink-blended centers inside the frames and mounted the Vanilla Bean Brown cat silhouettes right in the middle.

4. Stamping the Sentiment

Before assembling the full card, I stamped my sentiment in the bottom left corner of the kraft panel. I chose a sentiment from the Waffle Flower Picture Perfect Sentiments set. Using a dark brown ink, I stamped “You Are Truly One Of A Kind” to coordinate perfectly with the rich brown tones of the design.

5. Final Assembly

For the last step, I mounted the Natural Twine Kraft panel onto the Vanilla Bean Brown mat layer. Then, I glued the entire piece directly onto my A2 Classic Crest Smooth Solar White 130 lb card base. To complete the gallery look, I attached the three framed cat portraits across the card using foam tape for added dimension. Finally, I scattered a few warm amber gems around the frames for an extra touch of sparkle.

I love the depth of color created!

Start With the Savoy Cardstock Base

Start with a piece of Savoy 100% Cotton Cardstock. Tape the panel to a base using very thin margins. This will allow you to move the panel around allowing the watercolors to move.

Wet the panel first and then apply watercolors randomly, allowing the colors to blend. Dry with a heat tool. Make sure the panel is completely dry before adding the stenciled blooms. The general rule is if the panel is cool, it still has moisture.

I know it looks a little messy, but the stenciled blooms change the entire appearance!

Stencil the Blooms

Select a large bloom stencil that will cover a good portion of the panel. I used Altenew’s Peony Lilac Swag Stencil. As you are stenciling over the watercolor panel, be mindful of the colors below. In other words use warm colors over the warm portion of the base and cool colors over the cool areas.

Feel free to ink blend additional color over the non-stenciled areas to brighten the base.

Assemble the Card

Trim the Savoy panel to 3.75 x 5.0 inches. Choose two colors of cardstock to make a double panel. In my case, I used Pop Tone Black Licorice and Pop Tone Razzleberry Cardstocks. You need to trim the panels to 4.0 x 5.25 and 4.25 x 5.5 inches. Use the darker color for the larger base panel.

Create a sentiment for the card. I selected a lowercase sentiment with a shadow die. I used the Pop tone Razzleberry for the shadow and black for the letters. Cut these type of elements from the panels to save cardstock.

Glue the sentiment and attach to the stenciled panel. Layer the panels in size order and attach to a card base made with Cougar White 110 lb. Cardstock (my favorite for card bases).

There are many companies out there that make die-cuts for creating Interactive Cards. What truly matters is that you always choose quality and sturdy cardstocks like those from CutCardStock. Choosing Colors & Supplies

Like I mentioned, when making Interactive Cards, there are many choices out there. I used a die-cut set that allows you to open a flap, adhere it to other side and reveal a 2.5″ honeycomb ball. The cardstocks used to create this, and all Interactive Cards, should be the weight and quality you’ll always find at CutCardStock. These wonderful papers make it easy and fun.

Choosing Cardstock Colors

The photo above shows you the die-cuts needed to create this particular Interactive Card. Selecting colors for your cards is always a cinch when you shop at CutCardStock. I chose to use DCS Cougar White Cardstock, DCS Texturized Pearly Curry Green Cardstock and DCS Canvas Textured Seafoam Green Cardstock. By using these high-quality cardstocks, I know that the flap on my Interactive Cards will be sturdy and hold together well.

The base of my card is Astrobright 80 lb. Eclipse Black Cardstock. The next layer is the DCS Canvas Textured Seafoam Green Cardstock followed by a layer cut from DCS Texturized Pearly Curry Green Cardstock, and the top layer is DCS Cougar White Cardstock. The fish and all its parts were cut from all these same colors of fabulous cardstock.

The above photo shows you the gorgeous shimmer on the DCS Texturized Pearly Curry Green Cardstock. Each piece of die-cut cardstock was carefully placed until my little fish was all put together. I did some stamping on the cardstock pieces of my little fish. This lets the recipient know how to use the Interactive Card. Here’s a peek of the card with the honeycomb open.

Finishing Touches

I added a bit of cheesecloth and spread it out around the frame to create a “fish net” of sorts. I also added some solid baker’s twine on the right-hand side just for added texture and color. This finished card measures 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (A2) and is a fun project for beginners while still offering plenty of creative techniques that more experienced cardmakers will enjoy.

CutCardStock Products Used

For this project, I used a combination of smooth and textured cardstock to add visual interest and dimension.

• Pop Tone Banana Split Cardstock
• Pop Tone Gum Drop Cardstock
• Pop Tone Hot Fudge Cardstock
• DCS Discount Card Stocks Seafoam Green Textured Cardstock
• DCS Discount Card Stocks Yellow Jacket Textured Cardstock
• DCS Discount Card Stocks Sand Castle Tan Cardstock
• Premium Cougar WHITE 110 lbs Cardstock

I chose both textured and smooth cardstock because the combination creates subtle contrast that makes the die-cut pieces stand out without adding bulk.

Create the Card Base

Begin by trimming the DCS Discount Card Stocks Seafoam Green Textured Cardstock to 3-3/4″ x 5″. Mat it onto a piece of DCS Discount Card Stocks Sand Castle Tan Cardstock cut to 4″ x 5-1/4″.

Next, attach a leftover strip of Pop Tone Gum Drop Cardstock across the lower portion of the panel. This strip is actually the negative piece left behind after die cutting tropical leaves for another project. Instead of throwing it away, I used it as a decorative border, proving that leftover die cuts can become beautiful design elements.

Creative Tip: Save your negative die-cut pieces. They often make unique borders, windows, or backgrounds that add interest while reducing waste.

Die Cut and Ink Blend the Elements

Die cut the sand, beach basket, and umbrella pole from DCS Discount Card Stocks Sand Castle Tan Cardstock.

Cut the basket insert from Pop Tone Hot Fudge Cardstock.

Die cut the umbrella canopy and sentiment circle using Pop Tone Banana Split Cardstock and DCS Discount Card Stocks Yellow Jacket Textured Cardstock.

To create extra depth, lightly blend light brown ink around the edges of the sand and basket pieces. Then blend yellow ink around the yellow die-cut pieces and the sentiment circle. This simple step adds soft shadows and helps each element stand out against the clean background.

Stamp the sentiment in the center of the yellow circle using black ink.

Assemble the Beach Scene

Assemble the umbrella and beach basket before attaching everything to the lower right corner of the card.

Use liquid adhesive for the larger pieces and foam squares behind selected elements to create dimension. The combination of flat and raised pieces gives the scene more depth without making the card overly bulky.

Finally, adhere the sentiment circle so it overlaps the beach scene and balances the overall layout.

Finish the Card

Attach the completed panel to an A2 card base made from Premium Cougar WHITE 110 lbs Cardstock.

Finish the design by adding a few blue dazzles in the upper left corner for a pop of sparkle. Then use a white gel pen to add subtle highlights to the die-cut pieces, bringing even more life to the beach accessories.

The finished design is clean and simple, yet the layered cardstock, ink-blended edges, and dimensional assembly make it visually interesting from every angle.

Final Thoughts

One of my favorite parts of this project is finding a creative use for something that might otherwise have ended up in the scrap bin. That leftover die-cut strip became an eye-catching design feature and inspired the entire card. It’s a great reminder that a little creativity can stretch your supplies while creating unique handmade cards.

You’ll need a wood frame and photo.

Also gather the following:

• Tropical flower and foliage dies
• Die cutting machine
• Stencil
• Dye inks or distress inks
• Ink blending tool
• Liquid adhesive
• Foam adhesive (optional for dimension)
• Paper trimmer
• Scissors

Step 1: Cover the Frame

Trace the frame onto the backside of the cardstock.

Cut the cardstock along the tracing lines.

Adhere the cardstock securely to the front of the frame with decoupage medium. Smooth out any air bubbles for a clean finish.

Step 2: Add Stenciled Texture

Place your stencil over the cardstock covered frame and blend ink through the openings using a blending tool. Keep the ink application light so it adds subtle texture without competing with the embellishments.

Step 3: Add the Photo

Trim your photo to fit inside the frame and secure it in place.

Step 4: Die Cut the Tropical Elements

Die cut an assortment of tropical leaves and flowers from brightly colored CutCardStock. Vary the colors and shapes to create a lush island-inspired arrangement.

Assemble the die cut pieces.

Step 5: Build the Floral Clusters

Arrange the die-cut foliage first, allowing some pieces to extend beyond the edges of the frame. Layer the tropical flowers over the leaves, using foam adhesive on a few elements to create dimension.

Continue adjusting the placement until the clusters naturally frame the photo opening.

Finished Project

This design is full of texture, dimension, and playful holiday charm with a bold, colorful twist. The combination of a snowflake cover plate, Caribbean Blue background, and adorable snowmen holding gifts creates a joyful winter scene that feels festive any time of year.

Step 1: Choose Your Cardstock

To begin this Christmas snowman card tutorial, I started by selecting a mix of cool winter tones with a bright, playful twist. The Caribbean Blue cardstock creates a bold snowy-sky backdrop, while Classic Crest Solar White keeps the snowmen crisp and clean.

Next, for the gift boxes, I chose Dolphin Gray cardstock and accented them with Raspberry Ice Pink and Wild Blueberry cardstock bows to bring in a fun pop of color while still keeping a cohesive winter palette.

Step 2: Create the Background Panel

Use the Snowflake Card Front Die directly on the Caribbean Blue cardstock panel to create the snowflake design and impressed details throughout the background. This adds beautiful winter texture and dimension while allowing the bold blue cardstock to remain the focus of the design.

Trim the panel to 4″ x 5.25″, then adhere it to a white A2 card base for a clean, framed look.

Step 3: Add Ink Blending & Shading

Light ink blending adds depth and dimension without overpowering the design.

• Distress Ink – Festive Berries was blended onto the Raspberry Ice Pink clothing pieces for added warmth and shading
• Distress Ink – Weathered Wood was used on the Dolphin Gray gift boxes for soft dimension
• Hero Hues Unicorn Pigment Ink was blended onto the Wild Blueberry clothing pieces for subtle highlights and detail
• Soft blue shading was added around the snowmen to help ground the images against the background

These subtle details help everything stand out while keeping the overall winter scene soft, airy, and cohesive.

Step 4: Assemble the Snowmen Scene

Build the snowmen using the Classic Crest Solar White die cut pieces and fully assemble them.

Position the snowmen side by side in the center of the panel to create a strong focal point for the card design.

Next, add the Dolphin Gray gift boxes with the Raspberry Ice Pink and Wild Blueberry bows so the snowmen appear to be holding them. This adds a playful storytelling element and brings extra charm to the finished winter scene.

Step 5: Add the Finishing Touches

Once all of the elements were adhered to the card front, I completed the design by adding the sentiment and a few delicate snowflake embellishments for extra winter detail and texture.

The combination of dimension, layering, and bright pops of color helps bring the entire Christmas in July theme together.

Step 6: Finishing Details

This Christmas snowman card tutorial shows how simple layering, ink blending, and die cuts can come together to create a fun and festive holiday scene.

The ink blended shading, textured snowflake background, dimensional snowmen, and colorful gift accents all work together to create a playful winter scene. I especially love how the Caribbean Blue background helps the white snowmen and colorful accessories stand out against the detailed background.

Before finishing the card, check the alignment and spacing of all elements and press the layers firmly into place for secure adhesion. If needed, mount the completed panel onto the white A2 card base.

Final Thoughts

I’ve really enjoyed exploring festive winter designs with bright, modern color combinations. The snowmen holding gifts add a sweet storytelling element, while the layered snowflake background and delicate embellishments keep everything feeling dimensional, festive, and cohesive. Sometimes simple layers, thoughtful color choices, and a bit of ink blending are all you need to create a magical handmade holiday card.

First, start with a selection of brown and cream papers. Depending on what color bears you want to make, you will want to cut several pieces in different shades. The browns I’ve used for these cards are: Cougar Natural 80lb., DCS Natural Twine, and DCS Vanilla Bean Brown.

Next, cut your mascot bear team colors! You’ll want to cut the coordinating letters as well, while you have the paper handy. Conveniently, all the letters in this set work for my project, but feel free to use other alpha dies you have available. I even used the U as an N for this bear!

I’m creating one for every Arizona team, so my colors are: Lessebo Sunset Orange, Basis Navy, Basis Burgundy, and Lessebo Cherry Red. Also, I’ve cut the t-shirts twice for each bear so I can swap out the trims of the shirts.

Furthermore, make cuts for your paw pads, noses and eyes. I’ve cut mine in an assortment of DCS Natural Twine, Classic Crest Solar White and Lessebo Pitch Black.

Now, dust the edges of your bear pieces with ink. Depending on the colors, I use either a brown or black for lighter papers and white for darker pieces. You can skip this step; however, it really adds to the dimension so it is worth the extra time.

From here it’s time to paper piece and glue all the cuts together. I’ve cut off the trims of the shirts and added them to the edges of the corresponding color for my teams. In addition, I recommend using a fine tip tweezer to place your pieces, like letters, eyes and collars.

Let’s discuss eyeball placement for a moment. Where you put the eyes on the bear determines the look you want your bear to have. In this example, I’ve shown 3 different widths. Ultimately, I’ve chosen to place my eyes close for maximum cuteness.

The next step is card assembly. I’ve chosen 3 different patterns to cut a smaller scallop frame as well as a coordinating larger frame to match the bear t-shirts. In addition, I’ve stamped a sentiment on Classic Crest Solar White, then mounted it on the coordinating color for each mascot bear.

As you adhere these to the front of your A2 card, consider using a small scrap piece of cardstock on the back of your mascot bear. Having this evens out the surface area, so your bear touches the background evenly.

Finally, add details to your bear as you desire! I’ve taken a white gel pen to add small highlights on the eyes and nose. Additionally, you could add freckles, fur spots and more. The only limit is imagination!
