However, owning a cat comes with responsibilities to ensure they lead happy, healthy lives. Whether you’re a first-time cat owner or looking to improve your pet care routine, here are comprehensive tips to help you take excellent care of your feline friend.

1. Providing a Balanced Diet

Feeding your cat a balanced diet is crucial for their health and well-being. Here are some guidelines to follow:

Choose High-Quality Cat Food

Select cat food that meets the nutritional standards set by organizations like the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Look for foods that list meat as the primary ingredient, as cats are obligate carnivores.

Consider Age and Health Needs

Cats have different dietary requirements based on their age, health, and lifestyle. Kittens need high-protein, calorie-rich food for growth, while senior cats may require specialized diets to support their aging bodies.

Fresh Water

Ensure your cat has access to fresh water at all times. Cats can be prone to urinary tract issues, and proper hydration helps prevent these problems. Consider using a water fountain, as many cats prefer moving water.

2. Creating a Safe and Stimulating Environment

Cats thrive in environments that cater to their natural instincts and behaviors. Here’s how to create a safe space:

Provide Scratching Posts

Cats have a natural instinct to scratch. Provide various scratching posts or pads to prevent them from damaging furniture. Experiment with different materials (carpet, sisal, cardboard) to see what your cat prefers.

Offer Climbing Opportunities

Cats love to climb and observe their surroundings from heights. Install cat trees, shelves, or perches to satisfy their climbing instincts and provide entertainment.

Safe Hiding Spots

Cats appreciate having safe, cozy hiding spots. Provide boxes, tunnels, or cat beds where they can retreat and feel secure.

3. Regular Veterinary Care

Routine veterinary visits are essential for keeping your cat healthy. Here are key aspects of feline healthcare:

Annual Check-Ups

Schedule annual vet check-ups to monitor your cat's health, receive vaccinations, and catch any potential health issues early. Senior cats may need biannual visits.

Spaying or Neutering

Spaying or neutering your cat can prevent unwanted litters and reduce the risk of certain health problems and behavioral issues. Discuss the best timing with your veterinarian.

Preventive Care

Discuss preventive care options, including flea and tick prevention, dental care, and vaccinations. Regular dental cleanings and care are important, as dental issues are common in cats.

4. Litter Box Maintenance

A clean litter box is vital for your cat’s comfort and hygiene. Here’s how to maintain it:

Choose the Right Litter

Select a litter type that your cat prefers—clumping, non-clumping, clay-based, or natural options. Cats can be picky about litter, so it may take some trial and error to find the right one.

Keep it Clean

Scoop the litter box daily and change the litter regularly. Wash the box with mild soap and water every few weeks to eliminate odors and bacteria.

Litter Box Placement

Place the litter box in a quiet, accessible location where your cat feels safe. Avoid placing it near their food and water bowls.

5. Mental and Physical Stimulation

Cats require mental and physical stimulation to stay healthy and happy. Here are some ways to keep them engaged:

Interactive Play

Engage your cat in playtime with interactive toys like feather wands, laser pointers, and toy mice. Regular play sessions help satisfy their hunting instincts and prevent boredom.

Puzzle Toys

Consider puzzle feeders that require your cat to solve a challenge to access food or treats. This stimulates their mind and encourages natural foraging behavior.

Rotate Toys

Cats can get bored with the same toys. Rotate their toys regularly to keep things interesting and encourage exploration.

6. Social Interaction

Cats are social animals, even if they often exhibit independence. Here’s how to foster a positive social environment:

Spend Quality Time

Dedicate time each day to interact with your cat, whether through petting, playing, or simply sitting together. This builds trust and strengthens your bond.

Respect Their Space

While social interaction is important, it’s equally vital to respect your cat’s boundaries. Allow them to approach you when they’re ready, and avoid forcing interactions.

Consider Another Cat

If you’re home often and your cat is social, consider adopting a second cat. Be mindful of their personalities to ensure compatibility and provide a gradual introduction.

7. Grooming and Hygiene

Regular grooming is important for your cat’s health and comfort. Here’s what to consider:

Brush Regularly

Long-haired cats require more frequent brushing to prevent matting and hairballs, while short-haired cats benefit from regular brushing to remove loose fur. Aim to brush at least once a week.

Nail Trimming

Trim your cat’s nails regularly to prevent overgrowth and potential injuries. If you’re unsure how to trim nails, ask your vet or a professional groomer for guidance.

Bathing

Most cats groom themselves effectively, but occasionally a bath may be necessary. Use a cat-specific shampoo and ensure the water is lukewarm. Introduce bathing gradually to reduce stress.

8. Understanding Cat Behavior

Understanding feline behavior can help you meet your cat's needs more effectively:

Body Language

Learn to read your cat's body language. A relaxed cat may knead, purr, or show a slow blink, while an agitated cat may hiss, swat, or flatten their ears.

Vocalizations

Cats use various vocalizations to communicate. Pay attention to the sounds your cat makes—meows, purrs, and growls all convey different emotions and needs.

Enrichment Activities

Encourage natural behaviors like hunting and exploring. Consider creating a cat-friendly garden or balcony (with safety precautions) for outdoor enjoyment.

9. Emergency Preparedness

Being prepared for emergencies is crucial for your cat's safety. Here are essential steps:

Identification

Ensure your cat has a collar with an ID tag and is microchipped. This increases the chances of being reunited if they go missing.

Emergency Kit

Prepare an emergency kit that includes food, water, medication, and a first aid kit. Familiarize yourself with local veterinarians and animal hospitals for quick access in emergencies.

Evacuation Plan

Have a plan for evacuating your cat in case of natural disasters. Practice placing your cat in a carrier and ensure they are comfortable with it.

Conclusion

Taking care of a cat involves providing love, attention, and a safe environment. By focusing on their physical and mental well-being, you can ensure your feline friend leads a happy, healthy life. Embrace the joy of cat ownership, and your efforts will be rewarded with companionship and unconditional love. Remember, every cat is unique, so pay attention to their individual needs and preferences to create a fulfilling and enriching life together.

The Joy of Kittens Playing with Toys: A Comprehensive Look

Kittens, with their boundless energy and insatiable curiosity, bring an unparalleled joy to our lives. Watching them play is not only entertaining but also essential for their development. In this article, we will explore the significance of play for kittens, the types of toys they love, and how playtime can strengthen the bond between kittens and their human companions.

The Importance of Play for Kittens

Play is a fundamental part of a kitten's growth and development. During the first few months of life, kittens learn essential skills through play, such as hunting, socialization, and coordination. Engaging in playful activities allows them to explore their environment and discover their physical abilities.

Physical Development: Kittens are naturally playful and energetic. Through play, they develop their muscles, improve their coordination, and enhance their agility. Running, jumping, and pouncing mimic the movements they would use while hunting in the wild.

Mental Stimulation: Playtime is not just about physical activity; it also stimulates a kitten's mind. Toys that require problem-solving, like puzzle feeders or interactive toys, challenge their intelligence and keep them engaged.

Social Skills: Kittens learn important social skills during play, both with their littermates and through interaction with humans. Play fighting, chasing, and wrestling help them understand boundaries and develop good manners.

Stress Relief: Just like humans, kittens can experience stress. Playtime provides an outlet for their energy and can help reduce anxiety, making them feel more secure and relaxed.

Types of Toys That Enchant Kittens

Kittens are drawn to various types of toys, each offering unique benefits and experiences. Here are some popular options that are sure to captivate your furry friend:

Interactive Toys: Toys that move or make noise can grab a kitten's attention. Automated toys that mimic the movement of prey can trigger their hunting instincts and provide hours of entertainment.

Wand Toys: Feather wands or string toys are perfect for engaging in interactive play. These toys encourage exercise and provide a bonding experience as you engage in play together.

Balls and Mice: Simple toys like balls or plush mice are classics that never go out of style. Kittens love to bat them around, chase them, and pounce on them, allowing them to practice their hunting skills.

Puzzle Toys: These toys stimulate a kitten's brain. Puzzle feeders, for example, require the kitten to figure out how to access treats, combining playtime with a tasty reward.

Catnip Toys: Many kittens are attracted to catnip, which can enhance their play experience. Catnip-filled toys can encourage active play, and the effects can lead to playful behavior.

Boxes and Scratching Posts: While not traditional toys, kittens love to explore and hide in boxes. Scratching posts provide both a place to stretch and scratch, fulfilling their natural instincts while also being fun.

Tips for Encouraging Playtime

To ensure your kitten enjoys playtime to the fullest, consider the following tips:

Set Aside Time: Kittens thrive on routine. Dedicate specific times each day for interactive play, helping them understand that playtime is a special part of their day.

Rotate Toys: Kittens can become bored with the same toys. Rotating their toys regularly keeps things fresh and exciting, encouraging continued interest in play.

Engage Their Instincts: Use toys that mimic prey to engage your kitten's natural hunting instincts. This not only satisfies their urge to hunt but also provides valuable exercise.

Supervise Play: Always supervise your kitten during playtime, especially with toys that could pose a choking hazard or that have small parts. Ensuring a safe play environment allows them to explore freely.

Observe Preferences: Pay attention to which toys your kitten prefers. Some may be more inclined toward interactive toys, while others might enjoy soft toys they can cuddle with.

Strengthening the Human-Kitten Bond

Playtime is not just beneficial for kittens; it's also a wonderful way to strengthen the bond between you and your furry friend. Engaging in playful activities together creates shared experiences that build trust and companionship.

Quality Time: Spending time playing with your kitten helps them associate you with fun and positive experiences. This can lead to a more affectionate and trusting relationship.

Training Opportunities: Playtime can also be a chance to teach your kitten basic commands or tricks using toys as rewards. This can enhance their training and provide mental stimulation.

Understanding Behavior: By observing your kitten during play, you can learn more about their personality and preferences. This understanding can help you cater to their needs and create a more harmonious living environment.

Conclusion

Kittens and their toys create a delightful dynamic that benefits both the kitten and their human companions. Through play, kittens develop essential physical and mental skills, explore their environment, and build strong social connections. By providing a variety of engaging toys and dedicating time to interactive play, you can ensure that your kitten grows up happy, healthy, and well-adjusted.

So, embrace the joy of watching your kitten play! Whether they're pouncing on a feather toy or chasing a ball across the room, each moment is a celebration of their youthful spirit and the incredible bond you share.

Grooming Ideas For Weimaraners

Weimaraners are elegant, noble and athletic breed and were used by

Weimaraners are elegant, noble and athletic breed and were used by
royalty in the 19th century. Same with any other breed, this breed needs
proper grooming to keep their attractiveness and healthy condition.
Grooming is an opportunity for you to inspect your pet's body for
possible signs of illnesses as well as develop friendship with him.
CoatWhether your pet is a short-coat or a long-haired variety, brush
the coat at least twice a month to remove dirt, debris and dead hair
from his coat. Use a natural bristle brush for Weimaraners with short
coat. For long-haired Weimaraners, wide-toothed comb should be used
before brushing to work out mats or tangles of the coat. Brush your
pet's sides, chest, neck, belly, legs and tail but be careful not to
brush the skin and sensitive areas such as the nose and the eyes.
BathingBathe your dog rarely, only when he smells badly and gets very
dirty. Wet your dog with warm water but careful in sensitive areas such
as the eyes, nose or ears. Gently insert cotton balls into the opening
of your dog's ears to keep water out. Using dog shampoo, rub your hands
against the coat in circular motion. You may want to use whitening
shampoo on lighter areas of the coat. After shampoo, rinse him
thoroughly and dry him with a towel or hair dryer set to low setting.
Hairs under the feet, between the pads and the edges of the feet should
be trimmed with scissors.
Nail CareTrim your dog's nails depending on how fast the nails grow.
If the nails grow too long, splitting or tearing may occur. To cut the
nails, you will need medium to large-sized pair of pliers or
guillotine-style nail clippers to cut the nails. These things are
available at any pet store. When cutting, cut each nail just a tiny bit
at a time. Be careful with the quick, the nerve inside the nail. This
nerve, when cut will bleed and cause discomfort to your dog. If in case
you do cut the quick, styptic powder or gel will stop the bleeding. Seek
advice and guidance from your vet if you are not experienced in
trimming a dog's nails.
Dental careClean your dog's teeth regularly, at least once or twice a
week. Use a dog toothbrush and toothpaste specially formulated for dogs,
all are available at any pet store. Do not use human toothpaste on a
dog. Put a little toothpaste on the toothbrush and brush the teeth of
your pet.
grooming from her owner. Cats rarely need a bath, but frequent brushing
removes a lot of loose hair which would otherwise end up either shed
around your home or swallowed by the cat, creating constipating
hairballs. Grooming your cat on a regular basis also helps you monitor
her health and make her easier to handle.

Long-haired cats should be brushed and combed daily; short-haired
cats only need grooming about once per week. While brushing your cat's
coat, keep an eye out for lumps and skin irritations. Brush along your
cats back, from head to tail with firm pressure. Repeat this several
times, and then switch to one side. You should brush each area 4 or 5
times Always remember to brush in the direction of the hair growth.
If you find places where hair is missing, watch your cat for the next
week to determine if she is over-grooming these spots, or if the hair
loss could be a skin condition that requires a vet's attention. Be sure
to watch for fleas and remove them immediately using a flea comb. If you
notice rice-like particles around her anus (or in her bed), she
probably has worms and needs medication from a veterinarian.
The grooming session is a good time to check your cat's ears, eyes,
teeth and claws. If your cat is a young kitten, be sure to frequently
manipulate these areas to get her used to handling. By the time she is
an adult, looking inside her ears for mites will be a non-traumatic
event. If your cat is an adult, proceed at her pace. If she will let you
touch her ear, but not fold it back to look inside, that's fine. Each
time you groom her, try going a little farther with your examination,
praising her with words, strokes, and treats for letting you handle her.
If she struggles, it is best to let her go, and try again another day.
You can use a cotton ball slightly dampened with warm water to clean
the inside surface of your cat's ears. Never put a cotton ball or swab
into her ear canal. If she reacts and jerks, you could injure her. Dark,
coffee ground-like flecks inside her ears indicates possible ear mites.
If you also notice her shaking her head or scratching at her ears a
lot, or notice a strong odor in her ears, have your vet take a look.
A healthy cat's eyes are bright, clear and free of discharge.
Lift her upper lip to check her gums, which should be pink, and take a
look at her teeth. If you choose to brush your cat's teeth, be sure to
use toothpaste made for cats, as human-type toothpaste can be toxic to
your pet. Pet supply stores carry a variety of cat toothpastes, as well
as toothbrushes designed to be gentle and easy to use.
When you start to clean your cat's teeth don't even use a toothbrush.
Stroke the outside of her cheeks with your finger. When she becomes
comfortable with that, add a little toothpaste to your finger and let
her taste it. C.E.T. poultry flavored toothpaste can be used to start as
cats like the taste. When the cat is comfortable you are ready to
introduce the toothbrush. With a small amount of toothpaste on the brush,
brush two teeth and the adjoining gum line with a slow circular motion.
This will get your cat accustomed to the feel of the brush. You will
then be able to gradually increase the number of teeth brushed.

There is saying that to know a man, you just have to look at the car he
owns and more importantly how he has maintained it. Today owning a car
is more than just a transportation device and has become a status
symbol.

This clearly shows that cars are the foremost in terms
of becoming status symbols. So, here are some easy tips to give you that
grand entry in style.

Looks matter and so we start off with the
exteriors. There is no dearth of products to choose from like car wash
detergents and solutions that claim to give your mean machine that extra
sparkle. So if you want to wash and rewax your car then a dish washing
detergent is an ideal solution for you. The dish washers will remove the
old wax coat from your car and prepare the surface for a recoating.

However
if you just want to keep the shine and just wash the car then you must
go for something that is specifically suited to your car and does not
affect the wax. In fact in the long run it is advisable to avoid
detergents or detergent based cleaners because they can actually damage
your paint.

Before you start washing and waxing the car, keep
your car out of the sun and bring it in the shade and make sure the
paint surface is relatively cool as well. If possible spray the car
gently to thoroughly wet the surface or pour water judiciously. Once
your car has been soaked wet, wash the car with mild car wash shampoo or
solution. Again, use only half the amount prescribed on the bottle.

Once
you are done with washing, dry the car as soon as possible. Use a
clean, soft and 100 per cent cotton towels, especially the ones with
microfibers. Never scrub it dry. Try to patch up the towel and soak up
the water without rubbing on the surface. And do not drive the car
around because you will only end up re-depositing dirt on the wet
surface.

Apart from cleaning the car, make sure you take
adequate care of it as well. Before you take out the car, check the
coolant. All cars now come with transparent coolant bags and always
maintain the level markings. Never open the coolant top with the engine
running. Do not touch the pressure cap when the engine is hot. Also if
possible, manually inspect all the hoses and get the worn out hoses
replaced by a trained technician. Do not forget to check the engine oil
level first thing in the morning once a month. With the engine off and
cold from the night before, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, insert
it fully and remove it again. If it is low, add oil. To maintain peak
performance, change oil every 5,000 km. Get your oil filters replaced
with every oil change. Also, check the brake fluid monthly, but do not
overfill. And never smoke while handling and cleaning parts under the
bonnet. The battery emits explosive gases and petrol flows through some
of the hoses, which may prove dangerous.
pet. It clearly outlines the different ways to groom your pet and how
grooming your pet can greatly improve their health.

You love your four legged friends and you want them to be with you for a
long time. You already give them the proper food, take them to the vet,
and do other things to ensure good health and longevity but there is
something else you can do to improve their wellbeing, something you
might not realize is important to their health; grooming your dog. Dog
Grooming is just as vital in keeping your dog healthy as diet,
vaccinations and daily exercise is. Grooming your dog will improve
his/her health and give them better preventive measures against health
problems. Here are the ways you should groom your dog and how that
grooming improves their wellbeing:
Brushing your dog’s coat/Skin Problems:
Brushing your dogs coat will prevent matting. If you overlook brushing
your dog’s coat it can lead to them developing skin diseases and
irritation. Brushing also removes dead skills and prevents scratching.
Grooming can also help for an early detection of these possible problems
and early treatment as well.
Bathing: When you bath your dog
always use the proper dog shampoo and conditioner. This will not only
keep your dog's coat clean and healthy but will also prevent itching,
irritation and dry skin. It also allows you to detect any presence of
fleas, ticks and lice and other signs of skin problems.
Trimming Dog’s Nails/Overgrown Nails:
Overgrown nails can cause your pet to walk awkwardly which can lead to
bleeding and paw infection as well as a great deal of pain. Clipping the
nails regularly will resolve paw and nail problems. Just make sure to
cut only the tip of the nail and avoid hitting the veins.
Cleaning Ears: This
helps in preventing chronic ear infections. When dog ears are cleaned
at least once a week, this can prevent the possible growth of bacteria
and yeast that can grow inside the ears resulting to ear problems later
on.
Cleaning Teeth: When dog's teeth are left unclean this
could result to gum and mouth diseases. This can also cause bad breath
and damage teeth that will fall out. Sometimes, this makes the dog
malnourished if he can't eat properly because of his tooth problem. This
can also lead to other health problems when your dog ingests bacteria
from their mouth.
Bacteria & Eye Infections: When hair
covers the eyes of your pet it will not only make it difficult for
him/her to see but will allow dirt and bacteria to develop around your
pet's eyes leading to eye infections.
All these possible health
problems can be prevented when grooming is done regularly. This involves
bathing, brushing, ear cleaning, nail clipping and others. Grooming
sessions with your pet is an excellent time to check for any
abnormalities such as spots, lumps, abrasions, cut and others in your
pet. As you can see grooming is a great way to improve the health of
your pet. Grooming also allows you to spend more time with your pet, strengthening your bond.
drink enough. The trick is finding a cat water dispenser that will
entice your cat to drink more. Water dispensers can be as simple as a
plain open bowl, or as entertaining as a fountain with trickling water.
Cats are individuals; the best water dispenser is the one that they
enjoy drinking from.

Water is an essential for cats, as for any living being. It's important
for proper hydration and health. Sufficient water intake helps to flush
toxins out of the body and to avoid kidney and bladder problems. The
trouble is, cats often don't drink enough. The trick to choosing the
best cat water dispenser is to figure out which one has features that
will entice your cat to drink more.

The simplest cat water
dispenser is a plain open bowl. This is also the least expensive. A bowl
can be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. It can be especially made
for holding your cat's water, and may have cat-related designs on it, or
it can be any odd container you have around. The only requirement is
that it holds water.

One problem with a plain water bowl is that
it usually holds only a small amount of water, meaning that you will
have to be alert to make sure it doesn't run out. Your cat may play in
the water, filling the bowl with dirt and debris and making a mess on
the floor. Standing water also tends to go stale; cats don't like stale
water, and it just may be too boring to encourage drinking.

Another
cat water dispenser option is a bowl with a reservoir. Usually made of
plastic, it is a bowl with a water container on top. Water from the
container flows by gravity to keep the bowl filled as your cat drinks.
The advantage is that it will hold much more water than a plain bowl,
and you won't have to fill it as often. However, it is still boring
standing water in the bowl, and your cat may not be attracted to drink
enough.

Cats prefer moving water because it is fresher. As the
water moves, it is aerated so it doesn't go stale. Petmate and Catit
produce cat water dispensers that use small electric pumps to move water
from a reservoir, across a surface into a drinking area. The Petmate
receives the water in a bowl at floor level, from which it recirculates.
The Catit has no bowl; the cat drinks the water as it flows over a dome
on top of the dispenser. If your cat ignores the standing water in a
plain bowl, an electric water dispenser may encourage it to drink more.

If
your cat is one of those who love to drink from a dripping faucet, it
may not be enough just to have moving water. Drinkwell offers cat water
dispensers which actually produce a falling stream of water. The water
stays fresh and aerated, and the gentle trickling sound entices cats to
drink. If nothing else has worked to get your cat to drink more water,
the falling water stream may be just what you need.

There is
another consideration in choosing the right cat water dispenser -- the
type of material it is made of. Plastic is porous and can be scratched,
providing places for bacteria to hide and multiply. It is also suspected
that some cats may be allergic to plastics. Pioneer Pet makes water
dispensers of ceramic and stainless steel, the materials recommended by
veterinarians as the best for cats. These dispensers also have a pump
that circulates the water, and they are of an attractive design. If your
cat has itching around the mouth and throat, or if it has feline chin
acne, the best cat water dispenser for you may be one of these.

Historically,
wild cats would get a good bit of water from the raw flesh of the prey
they hunted and caught. They just didn't develop the habit of drinking a
lot of water. Today's house cats can get a good percentage of their
water from a raw- or canned-food diet, but if they eat dry food, they are at risk of becoming chronically dehydrated. Encourage your cat to drink more water by providing a cat drinking fountain for better health.

Of all breeds of cats, the Siamese cat is the ideal cat for the owner
who wants a demonstrative and loving cat. Known to be extroverts,
Siamese cats are outgoing and sociable. They know who their owners are
and are frequently seen shadowing their owner wherever they go.Siamese
cats depend on human beings for their survival since they do not possess
several traits typically seen in cats. The color of their hair may be
good to look at but not good as camouflage. They cannot roam around
during the night because they cannot see clearly in low lighted areas.
And their hearing sense is less sensitive than those of other breeds of
cats.Siamese cats thrive on company. They love to be around people,
which is the reason why it is not advisable to have a Siamese cat if you
live alone and are often out. If you do plan to have a Siamese cat as a
pet, then make sure there is someone to be with the cat. Or better yet,
get another Siamese cat to pair up with your pet cat.If there is no
other Siamese cat available, you can get another feline since it there
are other breeds that can be matched with your Siamese cat. You can pair
your Siamese cat with another cat breed as long as they will get along.
You may need to consult your veterinarian or a cat expert on which
breed can be put together with a Siamese.Make sure to provide them with
toys or any activity that can occupy their time. It can be a toy mouse, a
ball of string, or even a post for scratching. This will provide some
entertainment for your Siamese cats as well as prevent them from using
and destroying your own furniture for their play.A woman would probably
envy the metabolism of a Siamese cat since they eat big sized portions
of food and yet do not grow fat. It is probably because these cats eat
just the right amount of food that will make them full. Anything beyond
it, they leave on their plates. So if you notice that there is always a
bit of food left on their plates, it may mean that you are giving too
much food and must be lessened on the subsequent meals. On the other
hand, if they seem to be searching for more to eat, they may still be
hungry. Try adding another portion of food whenever you give your
Siamese cat a meal until you notice that they are quite satiated. And
when they are, take note of the portion you need to feed your cat for
their every meal.A Siamese cat matures faster and earlier than the
others in the cat family, some even as young as five months. Since
spaying of your cat is recommended on the sixth month, you have at least
a month to ensure that your cat does not get into trouble and get
itself pregnant since it is at this time of the month that they are
actively looking for a mate. You have to keep her indoors and check on
where she is and what she is doing. If she manages to get out and find a
male cat, chances are that you are going to be a grandparent to their
kittens.Siamese cats often are healthy in general, with a life span
reaching up to twenty years. However, they are also prone to having
tartar problems on their teeth and even gingivitis. If these conditions
are not given attention, it may affect the health of your pet Siamese.
They should have regular checkups with their veterinarian to be able to
get their teeth clean. You can also do the brushing if your cat allows
you to do it.A Siamese cat is the perfect companion cat for those people
who know how to handle its character, since their personalities are the ideal complement to the Siamese cat.

when you get a Siamese cat, it’s almost like you’re getting both a cat and a
dog! As you contemplate names for
you new and very special feline, there are several directions in which you can
go:

1) You can choose a name based on the origin of your cat.
According to the Cat Fanciers’ Association, Siamese cats are among the
oldest recognized breeds of cats.
The breed gets is name from Siam (modern day Thailand), from where they
are believed to be descendants of the sacred temple cats. Because of this, Thai (or Asian) names
are particularly relevant to Siamese cats, examples of which include Boon
(merit), Noi (little) and Dara (celebrity).
2) You can choose a name based on the appearance of your cat.
Siamese cats are incredibly beautiful felines. Their lean bodies, attractive coloring and striking blue
eyes often get much attention from human admirers. Although body types differ (depending on whether the cat is
a traditional or modern expression of the breed), all Siamese cats are
characterized by a pointed color scheme, with points that are usually seal
point, blue point, chocolate point or lilac point. Based on these characteristics, names such as Hershey or Kit
Kat (for a chocolate point), Lila (for a lilac point) or Frank (as a tribute to
‘old blue eyes’, Frank Sinatra) may appeal to you.
3) You can choose a name based on the personality of your cat.
The Siamese breed is known for being extroverted, sociable, active and very
vocal. Of course, these traits are all generalizations. I’ve owned very calm and quiet Siamese
cats, and (on the other end of the spectrum) I’ve also owned at least one
“maniac” – and I use this term with much affection because she is my favorite,
even though she wakes me up at ungodly hours of the morning! If you’re going to take this route,
names such as Leo (a tribute to the bold star sign or the larger feline),
Casanova, Diva and Princess may fit the bill.
4) You can choose a name for your Siamese that would also work for any other
cat.
In this instance, using your hobbies, famous people or other languages for
inspiration would all be good options.
In fact, as I write this article, I realize that most of my Siamese
cat’s names were pretty ordinary – Jenny, Kits, Lilly, Tyler. There’s a theory that pet owners who
choose “human” names do so because they consider their cats to be “one of the
family”. I definitely think there
may be some truth to that.
No matter which direction you choose to go, if you use your creativity and imagination, you’re sure
to come up with a great list of names for your Siamese cat. If you have trouble
narrowing it down to one, ask a friend or family member for their opinion, or –
better yet – try calling some names out to your cat. Considering the fact that it’s a Siamese, it will probably
let you know which name is ‘the one’!
Stevens

There's a reason many people refer to their four-legged friends as
their "fur babies." Dogs and cats aren't just pets, they're furry family
members. No matter how much people love their fur babies, there are
times when bringing Fido and Fluffy along when you have to leave just
isn't an option.

If you have to be away from home for an extended period of time, it
can be tough leaving your pet behind. For many owners dog or cat owners,
pets are furry, four-legged family members. When it comes to deciding
what to do with your fur baby while you're gone, knowing the right thing
to do can be tough. You could hire a pet sitter, but letting a stranger
into your home can be nerve wracking. Even if you have someone you know
and trust who can come by, your pet is still going to be alone for
extended periods of time. Leaving your furry family member in a boarding
facility is an ideal option. You can be sure someone will be on the
premises for most of the day, if not around the clock. But how do you
know which kennel is right for you and your pet? How do you know if the
staff is qualified? That your cat or dog will be treated well? That they
will be happy? The good news is finding the answers to those questions
is easy, once you know what to look for in a pet boarding facility. The
following tips will help you find a kennel you and your pet will love.

* Ask around. When you're trying to find a pet boarding service,
start by asking for recommendations from friends and family. People who
have had firsthand experience can give you the lowdown on which kennels
they love and which you should avoid at all costs. If you don't have
anyone you can ask, look around online at sites such as Yelp for reviews
of kennels in your area.

*Know your pet's needs. Does your cat
or dog have a special diet or require medication? Does your pet need
lots of attention and exercise? Do you have multiple pets and if so, do
they prefer to stay together or separately? Knowing what your pet needs
and the types of services you want can help you narrow your search to
boarding facilities that can meet those needs and provide those
services. Some kennels provide extras such as sheepskin bedding, climate
control, background music and even spa treatments. Webcams are also
becoming a popular option so you can check on your pet 24/7.

*Decide your budget. A high quality kennel doesn't have to break the
bank, but it's a good idea to decide how much you're able to spend ahead
of time. Look for a kennel that offers the services you need at a price
you can afford. You may be surprised at how far your dollar can go.

* Do your homework. Check around online for kennels in your area and
visit their websites. A good website will have photos of the facility as
well as a list of services provided and their prices. While a website
is a good source of information, there's nothing like picking up the
phone and speaking to an employee. How you are treated will go a long
way toward indicating how your pet will be treated. Call at least two or
three promising kennels and if you like what you hear, schedule a time
to tour the facilities.

*Visit the kennel. Any reputable
boarding facility will be more than happy to give you a tour. Make sure
you see the type of run or enclosure you cat or dog will be in and
what's included such as bedding, and access to food and water. Note the
cleanliness and condition the facilities are in, as well as the
condition of the animals staying in them.

Finally, go with your gut. If you feel good about a place, chances are you pet will, too.
creatures. Among cats, parasites generally feed on the animal's blood.
Detecting internal parasites can be difficult, but a close inspection of
skin and fur is usually all that is needed to uncover traces of
external parasites such as ear mites and fleas. There are many types of
worms that are internal parasites to cats. If you see small, rice like
debris around your cat's anus or in her bedding, take her to your
veterinarian. He will need to run simple tests to identify what type of
worm is present so that he can prescribe the proper medication to
eliminate the parasite.

Coccidia are microscopic parasites. They live in cells within the
lining of the intestines. The most common symptom is diarrhea. Left
untreated, the animal becomes extremely weak and dehydrated. Fortunately
coccidiosis is treatable. Drugs such as sulfadimethoxine (Albon) and
trimethoprim-sulfadiazine (Tribrissen) are effective in the treatment
and prevention of coccidia. However, these drugs do not kill the
parasites, but rather inhibit reproduction - elimination of coccidia
from the intestine is slow.
Ear mites take up residence in a cat's ear canals. As they feed, they
cause intense itching. A cat suffering from an infestation of ear mites
scratches behind her ears often and is seen violently shaking her head
on a regular basis. If you look inside her ears, you will see dark
flecks that resemble coffee grounds - these are the mites' droppings. If
you suspect ear mites, contact your veterinarian.
There are several effective treatments for ear mites, such as
Fipronil (Frontline) and Selamectin (Revolution). Ear mites are easily
treated with eardrops, but are very contagious to other cats. If you
have a multi-cat household, isolate the infected cat as soon as
possible. Ear mites are not transmitted from cats to humans.
Ringworm is not a true worm, rather the name for a type of fungus,
related to the fungus that causes athlete's foot in humans. It usually
causes no discomfort, but is highly contagious to other cats and humans.
If left untreated it weakens the immune system and leaves your cat
vulnerable to other, more serious diseases.
Fleas are perhaps the most infamous pet parasite. Although they eat
no more than a drop of blood each, a flea infestation can cause anemia
in adult cats and death in kittens. In addition to literally sucking the
life from your cat, fleas often transmit tapeworms, as serious internal
parasite. Just a few fleas can cause great discomfort to your cat,
especially if she is one of the many animals allergic to fleabites. The
best way to conquer a flea invasion is to prevent it in the first place.
Daily grooming, especially if you allow your cat outdoors will help
you keep one step ahead of the flea hordes. As you flea-comb your cat,
dip the comb into a container of soapy water to kill the fleas. The soap
film coats and suffocates the fleas.
Ask your veterinarian about preventative flea medications. These are
given to your cat orally. The chemical they contain is harmless to your
cat, but makes fleas sterile. It is absorbed into your cat's blood, so
when a flea bites her it cannot reproduce.
If your cat has had fleas in the past,
it is very likely that you have flea eggs and larvae in your carpet and
upholstery. Your veterinarian can suggest a "flea bomb" based on how
bad the infestation is. It is important to follow the package
instructions carefully and repeat treatment as directed in order to make
sure all the generations are eliminated.
Curiosity
doesn't always kill the cat, but can often cause injury. The owner will
likely have to get the cat stabilized before taking it to the
veterinarian. Any home with a cat should have a feline first aid kit
assembled and handy.

A first aid kit for a cat contains many of the same items it would for a human.

A roll of absorbent cotton and some cotton balls,

gauze pads and tape,

a pair of small scissors with rounded tips,

tweezers,

instant ice pack,

hydrogen peroxide,

a bulb syringe for suctioning mucous from mouth or nose

sterile eyewash solution for cats,

a clean, white cotton sock (to cover wounded paws),

small flashlight,

rectal thermometer,

injection syringe without the needle (to give liquid medication),

unflavored electrolyte liquid (like Pedialyte).

Place all the items in a sturdy plastic container with a secure lid.
Write your veterinarian's name and phone number on the lid, as well as
that of the closest emergency pet hospital. If you travel often and
leave your cat with another person, put several copies of a signed
release form in the first aid kit authorizing the caregiver to approve
necessary treatment.
Cat are great explorers and care must br taken with potential hazards
in and around the home. particularly with young kittens. watch out for
hot surfaces and liquids in the kitchen, unguarded fires, electric
cables, sewing pins and needles (especially with cotton attached) and
open windows on upper stories.
In the garden make sure the dustbins are secure as cats may scavenge
and eat decayed food or cut themselves on tins or glass. Being
inquisitive, cats accidentally get shut in a shed or garage.
If your cat is injured, approach her calmly and carefully. Don't
assume that she won't scratch or bite you - injured pets often react
negatively at first to any attempt to touch them. Once you get close
enough, place a towel over her head to "blind" her. The darkness created
by the towel has a calming effect. You can also tightly wrap the towel
around her body to keep her from struggling.
If your cat is bleeding heavily, it is important to slow or stop the
flow as soon as possible. Use a clean towel or cloth to apply pressure
directly to the wound. Change towels/cloths as needed, but keep pressure
on until you reach a veterinarian. If necessary, you can apply thick
gauze pads and use tape to secure them while you transport your cat. It
is best, however, to keep pressure on the wound and have some one else
drive.
If your cat seems to be choking, use a flashlight to see what she is
choking on. If you can easily remove it, do so. If not, you will might
need to perform a modified Heimlich maneuver.
Here's what you need to do:

Place the pet on its side on a hard surface.

Place both hands behind the last rib and press down quickly and firmly - release immediately and repeat rapidly several times.

Try to direct the force of your hands slightly forward - this will make your efforts more effective.

Have someone carefully open the dog's or cat's mouth wide and
attempt to retrieve the material from the throat as you compress the
chest.

It is important to get proper training for this, as it can cause
serious injury if done incorrectly. Many humane societies and animal
welfare organizations offer classes on pet first aid, that include the
Heimlich maneuver, CPR, and techniques for dealing with serious injury and poisoning.
and Kitten Care. Learn about Cat Scratching and how to help your Cats Health.

Cat lovers may be familiar with a common habit of cats,
that is scratching. They simply appear interesting to watch, when a person sees
them scratch walls or the armchair. For those who still want to investigate
this, they may place an object in front of their cats provided the cats are not
familiar with the same.

Within a moment, owners will notice their cats scratching
the object and constantly sniffing it. They may even spray the object with
urine. This proves that cats are not only curious about the new thing around
them, but also feel threatened at the sight of that object.

Cats generally rub their body against the legs of their
owners to call for immediate attention. They support the activity with meowing,
which often irritates the owners. It is better to ignore them, at times. Owners
also get annoyed, when their cats stroke their hands. Constant stroking may
sometimes result in cats attacking their owners with their teeth.

Maintaining Proper Hygiene:

Cat owners need to take enough care to keep their cats
clean, always. Proper nutrition helps in keeping cats healthy. Taking cats to
the veterinarian regularly for vaccinating them against infectious disease is a
practice cat owners need to follow.

On the other hand, grooming the cats at home also gives
them a good external appearance. The owner needs to give an occasional bath to
the cat. The owner has to brush or comb
the hair of the cat so that it appears lustrous and shiny. This will not only
make the cat feel comfortable, but will also make the cat more attractive.

Combing and Brushing:

Owners, who have cats with long hair, need to brush them
daily to prevent matting and tangling of hair. Brushing removes excess hair
from the body of cats. This is necessary, because cats often lick their hair
that can convert into a hairball and thus, may cause them stomach disorders
such as vomiting or loss of appetite. Giving a personal attention to the outer
body of cats helps to detect sores, lumps, bumps or parasites.

Pet shops make available a variety of products for pet
owners. Brushes, combs and other grooming appliances give a good physical
appearance to cats. For example, for cats with furry skin, a pin brush works
well.

A brush with soft bristle is perfect for cats with long,
silky fur. A rubber brush is ideal for removing hair from thin coats. Teflon or
metal-coated combs are recommended for giving final touch to hair of cats.

Bathe A Cat:

Most cats require occasional bathing. However, the case is
not the same with mischievous cats, as they often play in open and roll in the
mud. These cats are subject to mischief. It is a good idea to cleanse cats.

Select a shampoo meant exclusively for cats. This is
because the pH level of human skin is not the same as that of cats. Shampoos,
which humans use may let the skin of cat dry and may cause irritations. They
may in future cause infection.
usually a different story altogether. Pet owners have a wide variety of
cat litter boxes to choose from. Scoop litters are a big help for those
who want to keep a clean household. If owners can remember to scoop a
few times every day, they wouldnt have to worry about odors in their
homes. Some people may find scoop litters impractical though, and a
brand that prevents unpleasant odors can help people who cant scoop
their box as often as they want.

Fortunately, they can buy a cat litter box that can do the scooping
for them. This is perfect for busy persons who often forget to scoop the
box. These litter boxes come with mechanical attachments that will push
the clump of litter into a tray after the cat is done with it. The
owners would only need to empty the tray every few days. If their house
has multiple stories, it would be good if they can have a box on every
floor. They should also keep a box for every cat they have.
Size is an important factor to consider when purchasing a cat litter
box. Some cats can be large and may feel cramped in a small, enclosed
litter box. They may find it difficult to keep themselves clean if they
have to squeeze in. This may discourage them from using the box and
cause some problems for their owners. The location of the cat litter box
is also an important factor. If the box is located in a noisy area, the
cats may not be inclined to use the it. Pet owners should place the
boxes in quiet and secluded areas in their homes.
Some people may feel uncomfortable at the sight of the cat litter
box, but there are models that will hide the box entirely. These
resemble furniture,
and most people will not notice the cat litter box unless the owners
inform them. These are also effective for keeping stray litter in the
box rather than on hardwood floors and carpets. Cats are trainable and
will not cause major problems as long as their owners provide a big box
located in an easy to reach yet quiet spot.
Mostly people like to have the
dogs and cats as their domestic pets than any other animals. Not only
elders but even small babies also love to play with them. Having pets at
home provide people with happiness and they help us to lead a stress
free relaxed life.

They love to spend their time with them. They like to go for a walk with
their dogs. Many studies have proven this beyond a doubt. Whenever we
are in emotional conflict, we get relief when we play with our cat or
dog or any other pet. Your pets show you love and affection so to
reciprocate you should give them the proper care as well. And thus we do
not come to know but we emotionally attached with our pets and them us.
And they become a part of our life.

I belong from pet lover
family. I still remember the time when my parent brought a small puppy
for us. And we gave him a name ‘Tinni'. And all time we love to play and
run with tinni. i love to help my mom in his daily work. We bring lots
of pet accessories like pet toy, pet hair remover and etc.

But
having pets at home and play with them is not enough! It is not an easy
job. Because if we carry animal at home, we have to give them proper
care and love from our busy routine. We have to give training to be
friendly we us, our family members and other people. So that they do not
bite and bark to people. Especially it is very difficult time when you
carry a new pet (dog, cat) at home and you have small babies.

At
the same time we must be aware of the maintenance of pets and their
habits. What they like and dislike. Because a little ignorance can be a
dangerous mistake for the pet and also for us. Especially in their
cleaning. Because pets can be the reason of spreading many diseases. We
should give them bath on daily basis and dry them with neat clean dog's
towel. As we all know about pet (dogs and cats) hair problem. Most of
the time pets spend their time on our bed, carpet and sofa. It can be a
dangerous thing. We should use the best lint roller
brush for our pet care. And with this all thing we should be punctual
for their food for a fit and active pet. Otherwise pets can become sick.
In these days there are lots of ready made pet's food available in the
market according to their need with the protein.

If you think
your are not able to take care of them or you have to go out of station
for some time. Then who will take care of your pets? No need to worry, because now lots of professional animal sitter are also available. And you can take help of them.

surface of the skin, spreading them around the skin of the animal.

Ringworm is a very common form of skin disease that is found in both
dogs and cats. Although its name makes you think otherwise, this skin
disease isn’t caused by any type of worm. It’s actually caused by fungi
known as Dermatophytes that feed on dead tissues found in the surface
of the skin, spreading them around the skin of the animal. With cats,
there is a certain type of fungi known as M Canis that is found with
nearly 95% of all ringworm cases. Normally, cats will get the ringworm
disease from contaminated objects like bedding, clippers, or another
animal that already has the disease. If there are animals in your home
or around your house that have the ringworm disease, your cat could very
easily contract it this way.If you have kittens or cats that are under a
year old in your home, you should always use precaution, as they are
more susceptible to ringworm. Kittens can easily contract the disease,
especially if you allow them to go outside. They can easily come in
contact with a contaminated object or another cat that has the disease.
Kittens take a long time to build their immune system up, and in the
meantime they are more apt to get common disease such as ringworm. The
most common symptoms of ringworm in cats are rough or broken hairs, or
hair loss around the head or the paws. Ringworm can easily be
identified by a patch of scaly skin on the body that appears itchy and
inflamed. There will also be broken hairs around the patch of scaly
skin. This area is very sensitive, and you should never try to touch
it, as it will hurt your cat.If you notice any of the above symptoms
with your pet, you should immediately schedule an appointment with your
vet. If the vet diagnosis your cat with ringworm, he may prescribe
ointment or tablets. What he describes however, will determine on how
serious the ringworm is. If he prescribes tablets to your cat, you
should give them with meals. Ointment on the other hand, is normally
spread into the coat, topically. You should always use what your vet
prescribes on a daily basis, to ensure that your cat heals. The healing
process will take time, normally around six weeks or more.Cats that
have ringworm should be labeled as infectious. If you have children in
the house, you should keep them away from your pet. Whenever you handle
your cat, you should always use gloves. Ringworms are contagious, and
you should always use caution. Even though it’s a mild disease, ringworm can result in serious problems due to the slow recovery time and fact that it’s contagious.
