Cumberland Valley Christian School Open Houses will be held on 3/15/12 and 4/12/12 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. We offer classes for grades K3 – 12^th. Tour our campus, visit our classrooms, and meet our teachers. New families can receive $75 waived registration fee and $100 towards tuition by registering on one of the two Open House days.

Parent Update Meeting

Parent Update Meeting will be on Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m. in the church auditorium. Topics will be on social media and bullying. A representative from the Franklin County District Attorney's office will be on hand to do a presentation and answer questions about social media.

The school day we lost due to Mrs. Larson's memorial service will be made up on Thursday, April 5, with a 1 p.m. dismissal. Wednesday, April 4, will now be a full day of school.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, February 23^rd. Forms went home last week in the mailbag. If you haven't done so already, fill out the form and return it to the school office no later than Friday, February 10^th. You will be sent notice in the mailbag on February 15^th confirming the time for your parent/teacher conference.

Mrs. Lynne Larson

It is our sad duty to announce that one of our CVCS teachers, Mrs. Lynne Larson, has passed away. For 21 years Mrs. Larson was a faithful and dedicated teacher who impacted the lives of many students. We will be forever grateful for her influence on our lives and those of our students. Please continue to pray for the family.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201; where Rev. Mike Sanders and Rev. Carl McKee will officiate. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the church and address above and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Lynne's name to Cumberland Valley Christian School, 600 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

CVCS will celebrate its annual Homecoming on Friday, January 27th, 2012. The highlight of the night will be the unveiling of the Court and crowning of the King and Queen. The schedule for the evening is: Jr. High Girls Basketball v. Shalom 3:30pm, Jr. High Boys Basketball v. Shalom 4:45pm, Varsity Girls Basketball v. Shalom 6:00pm, Homecoming Court 7:30pm, Varsity Boys Basketball v. Shalom 8:00pm. Come early to ensure that you get a good seat.

SOC Club Thanksgiving Food Drive: November 1 - 18, 2011

All SOC Club members will be participating in coordinating a food drive for families in need within our school, church, and community. Each class has been given specific items needed for donations. The more food items donated the more baskets SOC can make, and the more families we can serve. Please encourage your specific classes to participate. Money donations will be accepted to purchase turkeys for the baskets as well. Encourage students to talk with their parents about this need and this ministry opportunity.

Food Donation List for each grade:

12^th - Bread or dinner rolls (to bring in on Nov. 18^th)

11^th - Cereal, oatmeal, or breakfast items such as cereal bars or pre-packaged muffins

10^th - Canned vegetables

9^th - Stuffing mix and canned gravy

8^th - Canned soups

7-1 - Instant mashed potatoes or canned sweet potatoes

7-2 - Boxed side dishes such as macaroni & cheese, Rice-a-roni, noodles & sauces

6^th - Canned fruit

Food items can be brought to Mrs. Suders in Room A-1.

GRANDPARENTS' DAY LUNCH

GRANDPARENTS' DAY

Due to capacity and safety reasons, we will not be hosting a lunch this year for Grandparent's Day. However, a few restaurants in the area have agreed to host a "Fundraising Day" for CVCS on November 4^th. If grandparents wish to take their grandchildren out to lunch after school, they may still do so (with the parent's/legal guardian's written permission on the "Grandparent's Day Dismissal Form"). They may choose to take them to any restaurant of their liking; however, if they go to any of the below restaurants and hand the server the appropriate flyer, that restaurant will give CVCS a percentage of the cost of their meal. Restaurants and times are as follows:

· Hoss's - All day on November 4^th

· Fuddruckers - All day on November 4^th

· Pizza Hut at 928 LWE, Chambersburg, ONLY - All day on November 4^th (dine in, carry out, and delivery)

Parent meeting on Monday, November 14^th from 7 - 8 p.m. in the church auditorium. The topic will be on technology and how we are using it and options we are exploring on how to use it in the future to further improve your child/children's education. Also, there will be a time for you to ask questions regarding the school. *This meeting is totally on a volunteer basis.

Lower elementary grades will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child

The Lower elementary grades will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child which is sponsored by Samaritan's Purse. You may donate money, shoeboxes, or any of the items listed on the brochure sent home with your youngest child. You do not need to fill a shoebox; please send any of the items, and the students will fill the shoeboxes. You may start sending things to school now and continue sending them through the 10^th of November.

Grandparents' Day, Friday, November 4th. NOTE: Dismissal is 11:30 a.m. as opposed to the originally scheduled time.
