The VLC player is truly versatile. It plays the largest number of media files of any of the media players I've found. And, unlike QuickTime, you don't need to download any codecs for it to support these formats. The list of media formats that VLC supports is available here.

I know I have found the VLC player indispensable when it comes to playing OGM or MKV files. The VLC player not only supports both OGM and MKV, but also has subtitle and audio track preferences to make the whole process of playing them that much easier. Can QuickTime do that? I don't think so.

Not only does it support various video files (like DVD and VCD), it also supports a large variety of audio files. However, it is not as convenient to play audio files on the VLC player as it is with another audio player like iTunes considering the short nature of most audio. If you are going to listen to something of any length, a VLC player would be a good idea. If you just want to listen to music, I suggest you find a different audio player.
Ease of Use

Not only does the VLC support almost any type of audio/video format you can think of, it is also easy to use. While some of the features are very Windows (it is cross platform software), it is simple enough to figure out. I find it easiest to open everything with Quick Open File over Open File since Open File is a little more advanced. The Mac version of the VLC player even looks very Mac OS X like.
Overall

The VLC player really is your Macs one stop shop for all things media. I no longer use any other media player at all (besides iTunes) on my Mac. Why switch between several different media players when VLC has everything you could want in one and more?

Quick guide on Preventing your system from getting Infected

Each of the Firewalls listed is good enough, just choose which you like best and works with your system.

This is a very quickly prepared topic to warn people about infected files and how to prevent them from being used to steal people's Warez-bb account, RS Premium accounts, points and files. This is a very big problem and is happening to a great deal of people. A much more complete topic is being worked on so watch out for that.

The most important thing to do is to make sure you have a decent Software Firewall installed on your PC and have it set to prompt on internet access and not to use the default setup. Then to train the Firewall for your internet applications such as Web browser, Downloaders and Messenger clients. If you can do this for all your internet applications then any new prompts should be very rare and could mean something is trying to access the internet which shouldn't! Note that some Firewalls have a allow/deny once feature which does not create a rule so you can deny it for just one time to test whether everything still works okay. When an application tries to connect to the internet it should show it's name and location where it is running from.

Malware creators try to name their applications and use icons which resemble legitimate applications such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Windows Media Player, Adobe applications and other applications in an attempt to get people to allow internet access. If in doubt deny it access!

If you install the application without any other program running, like you should do, then it will be considerably easier to know that what is being prompted for is not a legitimate application but Malware trying to steal your passwords. In fact it is advisable to deny anything that tries to connect to the net while you are installing applications no matter what it is. After reading this post, Malware creators/posters will know that they must change the way their Malware operates or it will be unsuccessful so they might delay their software from attempting internet access to try and get you off your guard. Check task Manager or better still Process Master for any lingering programs that you did not know were running. Kill them if you can.

Photoshop revolves around editing pixels, unlike Adobe Illustrator which uses vectors. When an image is rendered into Photoshop, it is compiled by millions of single-colored pixels. At its core, Photoshop works by manipulating each individual pixel. Pixels are manipulated according to whichever tool is being used. In the case of other tools, such as Blending Modes, the pixels are modulated according to their relations with other pixels. Individual colors are encoded by a 3-part scale: red values, green values, and blue values (RGB). Each value is measured on a scale of 0 to 255, with saturation increasing proportionate to number scale. A value of Red: 255 Green: 0 Blue: 0 will be rendered as pure red. All 3 values at 255 will be rendered as white, all values at 0 will be rendered as black, etc.

Photoshop can utilize the color models RGB, lab, CMYK, grayscale, binary bitmap, and duotone. Photoshop has the ability to read and write raster and vector image formats such as .EPS, .PNG, .GIF, .JPEG, and Fireworks. It also has several native file formats:

* The .PSD (Photoshop Document) format stores an image with support for most imaging options available in Photoshop. These include layers with masks, color spaces, ICC profiles, transparency, text, alpha channels and spot colors, Clipping paths, and duotone settings. This is in contrast to many other file formats (e.g. .EPS or .GIF) that restrict content to provide streamlined, predictable functionality.
