People usually howl when there inbox is usually overloaded with useless emails form known people… Although they want those emails, they want to separate them from the really important ones! And although Gmail has always been exceptionally good at separating junk aka SPAM from the usual emails, but nowadays many of those usual emails aren’t considered to be important at all!

As Gmail states, Priority Inbox will be like your personal assistant, helping you focus on the messages that matter without requiring you to set up complex ‘hulla bulla’ (which usually seems to be in Swahili)

Priority Inbox will split your inbox into three sections: “Important and unread,” “Starred” and “Everything else”… Won’t that be convenient? Gmail will automatically flag emails from ‘Most Emailed People’ as ‘Important’. As you keep on using Gmail, it will get better at all this…

Currently, a lot of testing is going on at Google with regard to the feature. It will soon appear on the top-right of your email screen in about two or three weeks! Let’s wait for it!!!!!!

Government Of India sketches up plans for $35 tablet

The Government of India has sketched up plans to launch a $35 tablet whcih will give a direct competition to Apple’s iPad. Although Fusion Garage’s JooJoo has also done so, their tablet is a little pricey, standing at 25000 INR, which is a lot compared to the mere price of the unnamed tablet. A prototype of a basic touch-screen tablet, the gadget runs Linux and has a browser, Wi-Fi, 2 GB memory, video conferencing, a PDF reader and lots more… It will come into production by 2011. The price will eventually come to $20. I think it’s a good idea to stick to our laptops till then!

The New Gmail Contact Manager

Google launched an update to its six year old web based mail, Gmail, which allows a user to group contacts for better productivity. It has also added a ‘Tasks’ menu in which one can make a list of to-do tasks and much more…

Although the update is good enough, I expected much more from Gmail… I mean, when they revolutionised emailing earlier, why can’t they do it again…??? They could have conjured up an app which enlists out friends from strangers using s0me algorithm!

But nevertheless, the engineers notched up a more convenient and faster version of Gmail…

WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious” is Out!

Yes, you read it right! WordPress v3.0, code-named “Thelonious” (who was an American jazz pianist and composer) has been released and can be downloaded from here. The list of new major features is big! It includes a shining brand new theme TwentyTen, new menus interface, custom post types, WordPressMU 3.0 integration and many more! There are a total of 1,217 bug fixes and enhancements from 218 contributors (in which I was also there, you can search for gautam2011 here ). Well its a fact that Chrome is the fastest growing browser. Should you as a blogger be worried about that ?

Not really for we have the two minute solution for you to get your readers from chrome.

For the impatient bloggers all you have to do is download the zip folder of the code from here

You will need to modify the following in SportsKeeda.html file

1) Your blog description here

2) {title: ‘SportsKeeda’, url: ‘http://www.sportskeeda.com/feed/’ }];

Change to the name and url of your feed

3) Change the icons in the folder

4) Once you are done upload the zip folder here and done !

For the bloggers who will like to know the detailed process there are only 4 steps :

1) Hop on to Google Ajax Feed API wizard and create a feed API for your blog.

2) Go through the tutorial on how to create a chrome extension

3) Don’t download the Popup.html as said in the tutorial. Just copy the code from the first step and add the following CSS on the top to create your own popup.html.

4) Create a zip folder and upload it here and done !

Apple Shows the Power of HTML5!

Apple has been a big supporter of HTML5, it also ditched the support of flash in iPad because the new HTML5 features allowed them to do that same thing. The company has released a new HTML5 showcase which shows what a new-age browser with HTML5 support is capable to do without the need of any plugins or flash. The showcase only runs on the latest version of Safari, which is a bit obvious. Here are some screenshots from that:

Despite the various privacy concerns and quit facebook day being faced by Facebook, the social networking website has declared that there has been a 4-fold increase in the number of advertisers since 2009! That’s really huge!

“We’re very well positioned as people come out of this current economic situation,” Facebook vice president of global sales Mike Murphy said in an interview at Facebook’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California. “What we’ve become is absolutely core to marketing campaigns.”

According to sources, Facebook displayed 176 billion ads in US in the first quarter, up from 70.6 billion a year earlier.

Without doubt, Facebook is taking on Google in the field of ads. While Google shows the ads based on various searches made by the users, Facebook shows the ads based on user’s profile content and personal information.

How I helped my Dad’s Company to switch to Google Docs!

Before starting, I want to tell that this is a real story, and that my father’s company has benefitted from it.

Many years back, there used to be only paper work which people would post and it would take days to reach to the addressee. Then came Email, Microsoft Office and other things – people started to mail the official documents to save time, many times the documents needed editing from various people. Those people would download the document, edit it on their system, and send the copy back. The original writer would get back multiple copies of the same document and would have to combine each of them – the same thing is was going on in my father’s office. One day, when he was working on his laptop, I just approached him and saw that he was mailing some people from Outlook with some attached documents to be edited (I had got to know about Google Docs only the day before), so I suggested him about Google Docs and showed him a few videos – which were exactly based on the problem he was facing, the problem I have described above. He was amazed and started a bit of research on it and viewing some tutorial videos. In this post, we’ll discuss some of the amazing things we can do with Google Docs to make the most out of it.

Using @yourcompany.com Email Addresses

Almost every company has its own website and an emailing system set up – and as the company grows, having same email is necessary so that you do get each important email. Now, my father wanted to have the same email addresses for Google Docs too – and Google Docs allowed that. Well, it was actually because you could create a Google Account with any email address and use Google Docs from that after you’ve verified the ID.

Syncing with Microsoft Office

I know that developers/coders and some people don’t like to use Microsoft Windows, but almost every company gives their employees laptops loaded with Microsoft Windows & Office as they were only taught to operate that (in their childhood or training session) – I am not saying that they can’t use Mac or Linux, just that most of them still use Windows with Office. And as they use Office, they would obviously need some plugin or extension to integrate it with Google Docs – and here is where OffiSync comes to the rescue. It is a really useful plugin by which you can create new documents, upload existing ones, edit their properties or authors or change permissions. Recently, Google had also acquired Docverse, but it never came back into action.

Attaching/Linking Documents from Outlook

Now that you have created a document, you need to upload it to Google Docs too – you could of course do that easily with OffiSync (which works with Word, PowerPoint & Excel), but Outlook is also not a bad idea as a lot of people use it for mailing. This can be easily achieved by the Harmony plugin made by Mainsoft. It embeds into Outlook’s sidebar (which you can open/close any time depending on how much space you need) – and you could do anything from it like uploading documents (by just dragging and dropping the documents into it), changing document’s author, searching for documents, sending them via mail etc. You can learn more about it here.

‘Real Features’ of Google Docs

We have discussed how you can get Google Docs integrated with Office, but we also need to know the main features of Google Docs! The main features include real-time collaboration, chatting with people who are editing the document when you are editing it, and many of the features you can find in Microsoft Office. Final Thoughts

Google Docs really helps in having only a single copy of the document, it also stores versioned copies of the document so that we can revert back to any revision of the document at any time. One problem that people say is that Google Docs doesn’t preserve the formatting of the original document, but official documents do not contain so much of formatting – and I think that Google Docs would surely solve this problem in the near future. So it is just appropriate for companies, businesses, schools, or anything. My father hasn’t purchased Google Apps yet, currently he’s only testing it on the normal version of Google Docs and teaching his colleagues to use Google Docs and integrate it with Microsoft Office. I hope that this post would help them.

Facebook Clickjacking Attack on the Loose through the “Like” Feature!

For the last 24 hours, there has been a new clickjacking attack on the social networking website Facebook. It is said that hundreds of thousands of users have already been affected by this attack. The attack uses a combination of social engineering and clickjacking exploit and uses the Facebook’s “like” feature to spam the user’s profile. It affects the user’s profile when the he or she likes any of the messages spread by the spammers. Clicking on any of the links would lead him or her to an innocent-type looking liking, here is the screenshot of that:

When the user clicks anywhere on the page, the same message is published to his/her profile from a hidden iFrame.

If you think you’ve already fallen prey to this attack, you should clean up your profile any mischievous messages posted and all other suspicious links.
