(In an apparent error, the company's email says Pacific Standard Time, but Daylight Saving Time remains in effect until early November.)

With no pre-order process for the iPhone 5s, orders will simply ship when they are ready, and supplies are expected to be tight.

For those who want to make sure they are able to obtain the iPhone 5s on launch day, Apple will be opening its retail stores at 8:00 AM local time to begin sales. Apple has started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5c in 10 countries around the world, including the U.S., Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Pre-orders are available directly from Apple in most countries via the Apple Online Storeand the Apple Store iOS App [Direct Link]; historically, the iOS app has been more resilient against traffic surges than the online store.

In the U.S., Apple is selling the 16GB iPhone 5c on most carriers for $99 with a two-year contract, while the 32GB version is $199. T-Mobile is offering the 5c for $0 down plus 24 monthly payments of $22 per month.

There is also an unlocked GSM version of the 5c available for $549 (16GB) and $649 (32GB). All models come in blue, green, pink, yellow and white.

The iPhone 5c will go on sale next Friday, September 20, and the initial crop of orders should arrive that day. The iPhone 5s will have no pre-order period and will go on sale the same day.

Apple has released three new videos for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on its YouTube channel. The videos first debuted earlier today during the company's iPhone media eventin Cupertino, where the new iPhones were announced.

The first of the three videos introduces the colorful, lower-cost iPhone 5c, with Jony Ive explaining that Apple believes the iPhone "is an experience" the company is continuing to refine.

The second video features Apple SVPs Dan Riccio and Craig Federighi detailing the improvements in both the hardware and software of the iPhone 5s' new iSight camera, including Burst Mode, Slo-Mo video recording, and True Tone flash.

The final video depicts Ive and Riccio explaining the innovation behind the new Touch ID fingerprint sensor, detailing not only how much "care" and "consideration" Apple put into adding the sensor, but also the technology behind it.

Both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will be available to consumers on September 20. Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 5c on September 13, but will not accept pre-orders for the iPhone 5s. The 16Gb iPhone 5c will be available for $99 on a two-year contract while the 16GB iPhone 5s will be available for $199 on a two-year contract.

The latest part to appear is alleged to be the logic board for the iPhone 5C, completely assembled but unfortunately with shielding in place that keeps most of the chips and other components hidden.

Perhaps most interestingly, the features that can be seen on this iPhone 5C logic board reveal it to be extremely similar to the iPhone 5S logic board seen months ago in bare form and in a prototype device.

Leaked shells for the iPhone 5S and 5C have shown identical layouts for screw holes used to mount the respective logic boards, but today's photos show that even the physical connectors and components on the board itself are laid out in the same positions and orientations, at least as far as can be discerned with the shielding in place.

The iPhone 5S is expected to carry more advanced hardware than the iPhone 5C, with the iPhone 5C having been said to essentially be an iPhone 5 wrapped in a new plastic shell. But if these images are indeed accurate, it appears that Apple has reworked those iPhone 5 components to fit onto a new basic logic board design that is shared between the two new iPhone models.

SONY'S NEW LENSES

Remember that time when your smartphone camera just wasn’t good enough? That time when you wanted a picture that was just slightly better? You know, the time you lugged a pocket camera to your kid’s karate lesson or significant other’s colonoscopy. Well. Sony will soon have a product for you, friend!

The Sony QX10 and QX100 are leaking from all corners of the Internet following their surprise appearance last month. The products are essentially two-thirds of a camera designed to connect to a smartphone wirelessly or through a dock. Sony has created a whole new system that replaces a phone’s camera with a new sensor and glass. For better or worse, of course.

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, the QX10 will feature a 1/2.3-inch 18-megapixel sensor paired with an f/3.3-5.9 lens. The QX100 will have a high-quality 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and a f/1.8-4.9 Carl Zeiss lens. Reportedly, the QX10 will be $250 and the QX100 will be $450. The QX line is based on fantastic Sony point-and-shoot cameras with the QX10 looking most like the WX150 and the QX100 grabbing most of the RX100m2′s magic.

The concept is solid, but the market might be tepid. With the right software, a smartphone packs all the goods necessary to process a photo. These products essentially allow smartphones to capture higher-quality images and more importantly, share these images a whole lot quicker.

It’s just too bad these first-generation models are so expensive.

Let’s not forget this has been done before. Will.i.am and Fusion Garage (and CrunchPad engineer) Chandra Rathakrishnan beat Sony to this idea with the fashion-focused i.am+ foto.sosho V.5. But it doesn’t appear to have ever hit the market. Thankfully. It was ludicrous and smelled of vapor from the start.

Sony’s take is much more legitimate and original. As Chris explained when the products first started leaking online, Sony has created a product that moves the camera hardware outside of the smartphone, creating a platform that’s device-agnostic and gives consumers the option of using this device on future hardware.

Don’t expect these little lenses to be a huge hit right out of the gate. Sony probably doesn’t. This is clearly a low-volume product designed to test the market. But Sony as of late is back to its slow and steady product cycle. This product line is a clever cross between two of the company’s main product categories with mobile and digital imaging. Sony is going to do its damnedest to get consumers to carry a lens in their pocket instead of a pocket shooter.
