dTunes v2.2 Update – Change Log

SpringSorter 0.1 – Sort your Apps by Most Used

SpringSorter monitors how much you run the different applications installed on SpringBoard and allows you to reorganize the icon layout, making the things you use the most on top. This package was designed with many usage scenarios in mind and thus has lots of configuration options:

Rearrange your SpringBoard icons according to how much you use them.
Allows you to sort icons per page, or globally across all pages.
Protect pages you don’t want to auto rearrange.
Set a minimum amount of application usage before starting to move it.
Create a backup of your SpringBoard icon layout and restore it.
Manual or on-the-fly operating modes.

After installing SpringSorter it will automatically start to monitor your application usage behind the scenes. You can then start sorting and configurating the program via the settings program on your device.

How to Fix iPhone Stuck Pixel : That Dead Pixel Might Not Be a Dead Pixel

This is the weirdest solution ever, but trust me, it works. I don’t know why or how, but to my amazement, the little green dot is gone!

Launch NES (assume that you already jailbreak your iPhone and install iPhone NES emulator).
Choose and Start New Game. In my case I choose to play Mario Bros. Well, it doesn’t matter what game you play.
Play the game for few minutes or second and hopefully the stuck pixel starts to disappear.

If you already play a game using iPhone NES emulator before, you should probably know why. It work for me, maybe it will work for you. But do try the iPhone Stuck Pixel app first.

iPhone Stuck on Apple Logo After Installing an App from Cydia

Some times after installing an App from Cydia when you respring/reboot the device it stuck at the apple logo, iTunes will recognize that “an” iPhone is connected to it, but it wont identify the iPhone as being your iPhone. Every time you turn it on it goes back to the apple logo. Here is the little fix hat will help you to fix this problem. First of all download and install iPhoneBrowser. When you run iPhoneBrowser, the software might say that no iPhone is found. If that is the case, than disconnect and reconnect your device and iPhoneBrowser will recognize it. Once iPhone browser recognizes your phone follow the following steps and you’ll be fine.

Navigate to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist and backup com.apple.Springboard.plist to your PC.
Download and install EditPadLite from EditPad Lite – Free Text Editor for Windows . Than rename com.apple.Springboard.plist tocom.apple.Springboard.plist.txt
After changing the file extension form .plist to .txt, open it wit EditPadLite ( Wordpad or Notpad wont work ) and edit the file by removing the the offending key in the DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES

EXAMPLE:

DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES

Enable iPhone 3GS Voice Control on iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G

The following is how to enable Voice control on iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G. The Guide is for windows, but you should be able to follow along even on a Mac. If you have any questions simply post them in the comments.

Voice Control is an exclusive feature of iPhone 3GS which enables its users to make phone calls and play music by using voice commands. Some folks over at this forum have released a Voice Control look-alike app for iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G which works and looks almost exactly as it is on iPhone 3GS.

You will need to have an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone for this to work. Please refer to the guide posted here in order to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone before you follow the steps below:

Step 1: Download WinSCP on Windows or Cyberduck on Mac. (download links given below.)

Step 2: Make sure you have OpenSSH installed on your iPhone:

Open Cydia. Touch on “Search” tab and then search for “OpenSSH”.

Install “OpenSSH” and reboot your iPhone.

Step 3: Connect your iPhone with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.

Step 4: Start WinSCP on Windows or Cyberduck if you are on a Mac and enter the following details to login to your phone:

Hostname: The IP address of your iPhone. Setting –> WiFi –>
User name: root
Password: alpine
Protocol: SCP

Step 5: Once you have logged in, browse to //Applications directory on your iPhone.

Step 6: Download VoiceControl.zip (download link given below). Extract “Voice Control.app” and copy it to your iPhone in this directory: //Applications

Step 7: Right-click on “Voice Control.app” which you just copied, click on Properties and change the permission to 755. Make sure you check “Set group, owner and permissions recursively” option as shown below:

That’s it! Restart your iPhone and you should now have a new app named “Voice Control” on your springboard. Start this new application on your iPhone 3G or 2G and simply search through your contacts, music and bookmarks by using voice commands just like iPhone 3GS!

Rename II [2.0] – Rename Stock, Jailbroke and App Store Applications

UPDATE: Be careful renaming some cydia apps, such as Winterboard, as it will loose its themed icon if you have one enabled.

Rename II is an application that allows you to easily change the name of Stock, Jailbroke and App Store applications.

Rename II is very simple to use. The application gives you three options; /Applications, Appstore Apps and About. The /Applications option lists apps that are in your /Applications folder. This will include both stock and jailbroke applications. The Appstore apps option is where you will find a list of all the App Store applications that are on your iPhone or iPod touch.

To change the name of an application, just select it from the list. You will then get a pop-up where you can enter what you would like the new title of the app to be. Once you are finished renaming the app you can select Ok and then hit the Home Button, your device will respring and the apps will be renamed on your SpringBoard.

There are a few things I like about this application. I like that it displays the application’s original name on both the list and the pop-up where you can change the title of the app. This makes it much easier to change the app back to it’s original title. I also think it is cool that you can rename applications with emojicons. It would also be sweet to have a Rename All option that would put all icons back to their stock titles. When I was testing the app, I changed quite a few app titles and now I have to try and remember which ones they were! Or, maybe some sort of indicator next to the apps that are not their stock titles.

I have found that Rename II does not work perfectly for me. I am not able to rename any of my stock applications (besides Voice Memos). I can however rename all my jailbroke and App Store applications.

AT&T Apple iPhone Carrier 5.6 Update Fixes “Message Failure” in MMS

Thanks to the fine folks over at iPhone Savior, it looks like we know what the 5.6 carrier update for AT&T accomplished – it’s the one that came right with the 3.1.2 OS update.

“When sending photos or videos in an MMS message, the progress bar would stall at about 90% then result in an error ending with a (!) red exclamation point next to the MMS message. The associated message failed to be properly sent, though standard text messages worked as normal. The 5.6 patch addressed that particular MMS issue.”

Well that makes sense because that was happening to a lot of people, myself included. Rebooting the phone temporarily fixed the problem, but it always came back.

Read on for my short – but relevant – rant/suggestion.

It drives me insane when I update something on my computer – whether it’s iPhone related or not – and I’m not told what I’m updating.

Apple is notorious for this, although I must say that with 3.1.2 they explained everything I needed to know up front. But that whole “bug fixes” thing drives me crazy. I have no reason to believe there aren’t actually bug fixes, but which bug fixes? My bug fixes? Someone else’s bug fixes? When someone writes me to talk to me about a problem they’re having, well, I’d love to be able to tell them which update fixes it. Instead, I’m left with bug fixes.

The carrier updates — in this case from AT&T — usually don’t explain anything, with the exception of the much-publicized 5.5 which added MMS functionality in the first place. But knowing that this fix was for the red exclamation point error (my official name for it) – well, that would have been most helpful.

So to recap – I’m looking for more openness when it comes to describing what’s new in software updates and carrier fixes.
